Let me start off by saying Manhattan has always been good, however, the new owners have knocked it out of the park! This place is amazing, from the service to the food, it's a must visit. We've always loved the ambiance of the restaurant, it gives an old mob-type feel and I'm here for it! The menu has so many delicious sounding options, it was hard to choose which entree I wanted, ultimately I decided on the 6oz filet with a loaded baked potato and my husband and I shared the fried Brie...wow was that amazing! We finished our meal with some spamoni ice cream, who knew spamoni could be that good? They have a nice drink menu with a fully stocked bar, they even have a dessert cocktail that has liquid ice cream (it's too good!). Such a great spot! The staff here are so friendly and the service is always on point. They have a huge selection of alcohol and some of the best cocktails around -- perfect for happy hour with friends or just grabbing a drink and dessert. Stopped in for dessert after a Yelp event nextdoor at the wine bar and was pleasantly surprised at the nice atmosphere and service here. We were directed toward the bar since we were just ordering dessert. Service at a table next to the bar was excellent. Even the owner's son, Michael, who was bussing tables and providing water was very pleasant and talkative and checked on us several times during our time there. The vibe here is romantic candlelight with a touch of a homey feel. Our dessert was amazing. We ordered the chocolate cake which had ganache for frosting, and it was probably the best chocolate cake in Fresno if not close. We also ordered the brownie dessert, which was good and had good flavor but was slightly hard so the reason I knocked off 1 star. You could tell it was made with the best ingredients though. We attended a financial dog and pony show at Manhattan for about 25 people It's not very often that I can say a restaurant performed very well but here goes. The food was absolutely exceptional. Have not been to the Manhattan, in a while. Dave & Karen were the owners. Went last night, it was a 70th birthday dinner. We got there the hostess sat us right away. Unfortunately the hostess personality was like 2 day old bread, kind of stale. Put us in a booth for 4 with a chair at the end for the 5th, in our party. We asked for a table, was told they could not accommodate us, 3 of us were all 6'1" plus, 220 lbs. So kind of tight for us. Our waitress Robin finally came over, ordered cocktails and water to start. After that the service went downhill. We got the drinks, took some time. Asked for a straw for one of the drinks, had to ask again. That's how it went the rest of the dinner. Ordered more drinks , we could see the sitting on the bar, no Robin. So as you can see in this post, slow and had to ask multiple times. The food was very good, came cooked to what we asked for. I may go back because of the food. But that's only part of the experience. The restaurant looks the same as when Dave and Karen had it. I noticed the new owners don't really answer these posted. Looking at these and making adjustments is how you improve. So here's how I see it. Food 5 star Experience 2 star Service 2 star (That's stretching it) Ambiance 4 star Hostess put a smile on, and act happy to see customers. Karen always greeted you like you were family. It had been awhile since I visited The Manhattan. I really like Rat Pack vibe. I had the almond prawns and the filet mignon quesadilla. Both were exceptional. The service was exactly as you'd expect from an upscale bar and restaurant. The bar staff was helpful, friendly and outgoing. The place looked like they were going to do magazine photo shoot. The bar was gleaming, every photo (and there are lots of them) was perfectly straight and the whole restaurant looked immaculate. We chose the Meatballs, Potato Skins, and Onion Rings from the "3 for $30" menu which is their happy hour special. We also added a Manhattan Burger to our order. To start the meatballs were overcooked and dry inside, even the marinara sauce which tasted like Prego from a jar couldn't save'em. The potato skins were too thick and cold in the middle. And the Onion Rings were "nothing to write home about" to quoting my late Father-In-Law. The Manhattan Burger did look like it was made in house but it lacked seasoning.
