These people are downright scammers and thieves. I have dealt with them for years with my real estate brokerage, and they've always been great with me until I became a personal customer. They up sold me over the phone on a larger storage unit which I didn't need that they said would cost only $80 per month because that particular unit was on sale. It wound up actually costing me $120 a month with the insurance that they didn't tell me and then after two or three months they jacked up the price with no notice the price went all the way up to $240 which I refuse to pay so now they're saying they're going to auction off all of my things. read more

RATS!!! So many rats. I opened my unit to find LIVE RATS running around on my art, clothing and other special and irreplaceable items. The rats jumped up and then ran to hide inside my unit, when we disturbed them. The person who does maintenance was told by the front desk employee that he couldn't help move or touch anything in the unit, because of company policy and liability. The maintenance person said he would help, yet he wasn't permitted to do so. They allow rats to touch all of your things, but humans can't touch your items? Rats have free reign to spread disease across all of your valuables. And you should know that after this occurs, nobody at the facility will help you, or hire people to help you. You are literally on your own. When we started moving the bags inside the unit, the rats jumped out at us - inches from our faces - and ran through spaces into other units. It was a scene from nightmares. THE STORAGE UNIT INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER ANY LOSS!!! Even if you were paying for insurance - which I was - they will only offer a refund of 3 months of your storage unit fees. So don't anticipate that having insurance will help you in any way. The company will tell you that rat infestations are not covered. YOU WILL GET ZERO DOLLARS BACK, EVEN IF YOUR LOSSES ARE IN THE TENS OF THOUSANDS. Nearly everything had to be thrown out. Rats urinated all over everything. Rat poop in every bag. They destroyed things that were in zipped bags that seemed protected. They ate through supposed vermin-proof thick plastic and fabric, and then chewed up sweaters, hats, scarves, shoes etc. Had to throw out things with wood, any art. It smelled so bad that we put on KN95 masks. The person in the same row as me, 4 units away, on the opposite side of my aisle, was there crying because he also found rats in his unit. Everything in his unit was ruined too. The employees showed no shock or disgust. Admitted they have a rat problem, and it's well known to them. Said they've been trying for a long time to stop the infestation. I'm sure they've been through this so many times that they've become unfazed by the horror of their customers. It can't be fun for them to go through this repeatedly. It's unfair that they bear the brunt of blame, when it's the owners and management who are responsible. I have many videos and photos of evidence. Yelp doesn't seem to allow the more graphic pics to be posted. But these pics may be helpful to me, if I decide to pursue a lawsuit. This was not a hurricane or natural disaster. This was a conscious decision to knowingly allow a rat infestation to ruin the belongings of their customers, while simultaneously taking money from them each month, knowing the damage that was being caused in their units. Then I found out from a friend of a friend who used to rent at this facility, that they left because of rats. LAST YEAR! When I had called their main number to ask about relocating to a new facility, I asked the operator if they had gotten complaints about rats at my facility. They told me that they've been with the company for many years, and they hadn't seen any rat complaints. What a terrible experience, in every possible way. When I moved into the unit, they said they had regular exterminators, kept the property super clean, never had problems, and it was even climate controlled. They lure you in by showing you how easy it is to access your storage. You won't have to take an elevator when lugging stuff! Use a cart and roll on through! Seemed too good to be true. Because it WAS too good to be true. The stench of rat urine is potent, and you can smell it when you walk through the first floor. I thought it was a bad musty smell that was particular to this warehouse. I smelled it 7 months ago when I last visited my unit. But this time, the smell had grown much worse. And that horrible odor is the smell of rats. We all recognized the scent as soon as we started smelling the ruined items that were soaked and crusted in rat urine. I tried to bring home bags of clothes that appeared to be alright, and thought I could try washing them several times. But as soon as I started going through them, the smell was so sickening, and there was so much rat poop, that it all had to be trashed. This is a major safety hazard and this place should be investigated immediately - before people become ill. It's well known that rats transmit disease and nobody should be coming into contact with rat urine and feces. This environment can have a very negative impact on health. Hard to believe they have kids, immunocompromised, and older adults walking around in there. They are putting the health of their customers in jeopardy, and taking their money while doing so. Where is the NYC health dept? I moved to a totally different storage facility in a new location. read more

I am incredibly disappointed in my experience with this Manhattan Mini Storage location. I started renting a unit at this location in December 2023. My move-in was straightforward and the staff was very friendly and helpful during my move - which I appreciated. I just received an email this week - less than 10 weeks after my move - announcing that my rent is increasing roughly 20% going forward. To say I'm taken off guard by this is an understatement as an upcoming increase in rent was not flagged to me during my entire move-in process and I've only been in the unit for 2 months. I also checked their website and it claims "from time to time, there may be a minimal adjustment to your rate". I hardly think 20% is "minimal" and "from time to time" doesn't feel congruent with two months after you move your belongings. Really truly disappointed in this experience and I will question using Manhattan Mini Storage again in the future for this misleading policy. read more

I closed out my storage unit and it couldn't have been easier. By sheer coincidence, Tony helped me rent my unit3 years ago, and he helped to close out my account! He was really helpful and there were no unexpected charges. I was in and out in 10 minutes. If I have storage needs in the future, will def go back/ask for Tony. read more

My review is for the West 17th Street location: I dealt with Carmen this time around and I have to see she was fantastic. I was switching to a larger room, yet again, and before I even arrived, Carmen scouted out the best room she could find that matched my requirements (shape mostly, with as few columns as possible). She succeeded. I was extremely happy with her choice, which was also close to my current room, so that made life a lot easier. The best part about Carmen was that she laughed at all my jokes. Even the ones that landed with a thud. So, Manhattan Mini Storage, buy her a dinner (on you)! She's the type of employee that companies are lucky to have. Thank you, Carmen! Joshua Epstein read more

These people run a tight ship. Fair prices for climate-controlled storage in nyc. Facilities (including bathrooms) are clean.

Compared to the climate controlled 24 hr unit I had at the 62nd street location this place is a little bit of a dump, but let's think about what's essential in a storage unit. This location has elevators, tons of units, a parking lot, a loading dock, moving carts. And it's a TON cheaper. My unit on 62nd was ~$300/month a month and here it's ~$140/month. The hours are reasonable (7am-10pm daily). It can get warm (but not sweltering) in the units. One thing I have noticed is that my belongings seem to be coated in a fine layer of dust. The women's bathroom is only functioning about 50% of the time, but since most of the time I just need a brief hand-washing after rummaging through stuff, the men's does just fine. The storage facility shares a building with the DEA so this is not an appropriate place to store your drugs. Nice views of the new Gehry building from the parking lot. read more

As a home organizer as well as a customer, it's hard to beat MMS. The facilities are nice and getting better all the time. With my clients, I have seen nearly all of them and the improvements have been impressive. This review is to mention the Taxi Service which has been the best thing ever. Just last week, I had a huge load of holiday stuff that had to go back and Jonas and Theresa showed up, loaded it all in, got me to the locker, unloaded it and called it done while being friendly, pleasant and fun the entire way. Hard to believe they could make a chore like that something actually fun, but it was amazing. Couldn't recommend them more. They are a great company with awesome associates. TY! read more

I needed a storage unit fast and this location was able to work with me quickly to get everything arranged. After doing the initial work online, Kenneth at the front desk, turned out to be my personal storage guru. He got my paperwork set up and took my on a tour of the building to show me the locker. This place is gigantic (you can tell by the outside of the building) so just allot for some time as you shuttle items back and forth. I felt that for my needs the price was good, but I could see where people battling the high cost of rent might have a hard time justifying the room size I had. I suggest storing your items as if you would be storing them in a basement. I had any small items in plastic tubs and larger furniture pieces wrapped in moving pads and shrink-wrapped where needed. In making an out-of-state move after being in NYC for a long time I was already familiar with Manhattan Mini Storage (subway ads, word of mouth, etc...) but I never felt the need to store there monthly. I feel that having my unit for a month before my move helped me organize everything and have a landing place from which to load my moving truck. They are also located across from a place that allows you to park a moving truck or van overnight (at a different rate) which is a bonus compared to other facilities. Speaking of moving trucks, their dock is easily accessible and made moving my items are very seemless. read more

Manhattan Mini Storage - April 2011 - Self Storage Near Me - New York, New York

Despite the negative postings here, I chose this location because it was close to me, and with the loading/parking it's so easy to access. I went in to get a unit and the whole experience has been really good, and very easy so far. Noam, the representative who got me a unit, was fantastic. He showed me a few different ones, explained the ins-and-outs, then took me through all of the paper work (yes, there's a lot of paper work!) The place looked very clean to me - don't understand the comment about it being a dump. Noam did say that parts have been renovated, and they are working through all the floors. I was in one of the newly renovated areas so maybe that makes a difference. As far as security, I don't understand the comment about 'signing in' in a previous review either, because it's all key card access. You have to card in each step of the way, even in the elevator, so the security seems tight to me. It's really easy to pull your car/truck up to the dock, and use the carts (two different sizes) to move your stuff to the unit. You can also park right across the street with lots of reserved parking. I'll update the review as time goes, but as of today I give this place a great rating! read more

UPDATE: NOV. 20, 2011: Although some "Meg" from Manhattan Mini sent a note here apologizing and promising to deal with the situation "as soon as possible", in what appears to be their typical customer service style there is a lot more form than substance to their concern for their customers. That is a long way of saying that despite contacting her directly, I have heard nothing at all from them. Just know that the "excellent service" disappears the moment you sign the contract letting them know that they have made the sale. This place is to be avoided at all costs! I am afraid I need to weigh in on the "negative" side of this place. Although I am still a bit angry at my treatment there, I will try to keep this review as factual, objective and non-hysterical as possible. I have been a customer for more than six months. Despite the rather obnoxious salespersons, the initial contact was OK although I was promised things that never materialized (such as use of their free shuttle). However, the level of service I have encountered during my past visits has declined to the point where it is simply unacceptable. THIS SITE IS NOT A VIABLE PLACE TO USE FOR STORAGE. The Desk "Manager" at my last visit was unpleasant to the point of being rude and dismissive. He ignored me while I was clearly in need. There were no places to park to un-load and no handcarts to use to transport my things. When I asked if I could leave my car in their parking area until things cleared up there I was told NO. The entire process was just as stressful as possible and, of course, I am terminating my relationship with these people immediately. Shop around, as I am doing, and you can find a place that treats you like the valuable customer you are. read more

This location has the friendliest staff. Carmen made the experience of moving out and closing my account seamless and so pleasant. First Storage Unit experience! As stressful as moving gets, Rohan was so helpful and patience with customers. There's free water and tea while you wait and fill out paper work. You can also get a free pen! Photo ID and a Credit Card is required to rent. They provide 1 cylindrical lock with keys that you insert into the hole. Another lock is required for extra security; Disc locks are available for purchase. When visiting, you need activate your key card in the office, and then use it get access to the elevator area. You also need it to get up to the floor where your storage unit is at. It's part of company's policy to show you the storage unit before you sign the paper work. The storage unit I got was discounted because a main structural beam was going through the left corner. It was a little bit of a struggle to fit everything, but if your movers are great Tetris players, it should be no problem. read more

So professional, easy, and a huge relief! I had low expectations for the curbside shuttle pickup based on the website description that we had 10 minutes to load our own items, so I was overjoyed when they arrived and were super helpful, patient, and experienced. I've had at least one space at Manhattan Mini Storage for over 20 years. I recently moved to CA and had to clear out my storage and send it out west. I was almost sad to be leaving! I've had consistently great service for those 20 years. Billing was always clear and concise, the facilities were always clean and the service was terrific. On my final move out day Joey at the 17th Street location helped me with the details of the move out, was really helpful and made something I was dreading smooth and easy. I thoroughly recommend Manhattan Mini Storage, and specifically this facility, if you're overflowing and need storage. They get and A+++ from me! read more

I had a great experience with this location. The service was absolutely amazing, and the staff was very friendly. The employee who was in charge of me was Kenneth, and he went way out of his way to help me. I only needed storage for a few days while moving, so I was there a total of three times within a few days. I also bought some packaging material there. Kenneth was very helpful answering my questions, he gave me great recommendations for the best way to pack my stuff, and he also handled most of the paper work for me. I only had to review and sign the final agreement. I wish the IRS would be offering the same level of service... read more

I was skeptical when I was walking up to the facility, but from the second I called and spoke to a guy named frank til I got there and was helped by Ke'Yonna Johnson, I felt so welcomed and comfortable and knew I was happy with my decision to switch storage companies. Ke'Yonna was so sweet and professional and walked me through everything including up to my unit and explained everything clearly and professionally. I am actually looking forward to storing my personal belongings at this facility and look forward to coming back knowing how safe it is and how helpful everyone has been so far. The deals are not bad as well and there is parking for cars and trucks at this facility as well as all types of Dolly's which is a huge help. read more

Elizabeth Gomez was a star today. And so was the entire MMS business. Kudos to Elizabeth and MMS. Now the hairy details. MMS has a free shuttle that will pick you up from *any* location and take you to MMS. You may also use the shuttle from MMS to any location. And, in what will make New Yorkers blink, they run this ship tightly. I called for the MMS taxi, and less than 10min later it was at my apartment. Huh? On time. On schedule. Driver could not have been nicer. Star 1. The night before I had reserved several possible units. That triggered some kind of flag, and I got a call from an MMS rep asking if he could help me decide what uniit would be best. WHAT?! This is called being helpful. Great customer service. Star 2. Elizabeth walked me to several units, had an upbeat attitude, and then went so far as to find a 4th unit that was better suited for my needs. She took me around without complaint, spirited, good mood. Moving SUCKS. Elizabeth made the process easy. Star 3. It took me four hours to complete this move. MMS offered free, ice-cold water. Elizabeth even found me a shelving unit that was being left behind. Star 4. The place is very clean (they exterminate 2x/month AND hire a dog to snif the hallways to ensure no bed bugs.) Star 5. One additional thought - I wish MMS had key rings, with a funny saying on it, etc. I'd definitely buy one. All in all - MMS is top notch. And it shows. Well run business, employees who care, facilities that are clean. Worth it. read more

Jerry W from mini storage on 17 street & 10 av was very helpful with the information and really trying to help me find the right unit!

Other businesses should look to MMS as a model for customer service. I just moved out today (headed out of state). The move in process was great. They had a great selection of sizes, the gentleman helping me was very friendly and the process was quick. I was also pleasantly surprised by the cost - it was very reasonable. My move out process was even better. Jerry and Marlon made the process very easy for me. They were also very friendly and provided clear details in a print out of how my deposit , prorating, and commitment factored into the final balance, which I appreciated. They also saved me from making an extra trip back to close out the unit. Aside from having fantastic employees and good rates, the facility is great as well. It's conveniently located right off the west side highway. There are 4 truck bays, one or more of which was always open when I came. There is also free parking just across the street which also always had open spots when I visited. There are ample trolleys for moving stuff in and out too. I also appreciate the cleanliness of the place. If it was a restaurant, it would have an "A" rating. Lastly, I used the free moving service once to move a queen size bed to storage. It was a life saver because the bed would not have fit in my car. The driver arrived exactly when I had scheduled the trip and gave me a hand lifting the bed even though he wasn't supposed to. Obviously you want to get a storage unit near your apartment, but if this place is within your range, look no further. read more

Gregory picked me up in the FREE truck. On time. Very nice gentleman. Timothy was extra nice in the office, found me a perfect locker and took me to see it, just three aisles from my old one. Daniel, bless him, helped me take my heavy boxes down and fit them into my new space as if it were a Chinese puzzle. MMS used to have lousy customer service. It has turned around 100%. I can't tell you how pleased I was. I highly recommend this place! read more

I'm reviewing the adjacent parking lot. I pay $350/month for parking of an oversized commercial vehicle. If you know what it's like to look for parking or an apartment in NYC, this will resonate with you. These are the steps: 1. I called, asked for a quote 2. Given the quote for $350 3. Parked there, 24.7 access. This is virtually UNHEARD OF with the bait and switch tactics so common in this city. It's a great location, under 24/7 staff and surveillance, and as far as I'm concerned, the best place to park my commercial vehicle, hands down. GOOD JOB GUYS!!!! read more

The customer service is horrible... All about fishing people by providing different info all the time until they are stuck with them. And then super rude customer reps. I was told at first I will get 2.5 hours for move free but when I paid for everything and signed up the guy at the facility said there are no coupons on my offer ... Then I called them back and then another guy told me 1.5 hours only from my location to the facility... I called customer service back for another reason and the lady whose name I don't quite recall told me I get two hours from my place to the facility. I asked her to check again but she said yes two hours. Then I looked at the document the mover had and that said travel fee (travel time for the mover to reach your place) plus two hours of work but then the mover said cause you are coming from queens it's one hour though it took them just half hour to reach. Document they had said nothing bout Manhatten or queens. I ended up paying approx $75 extra for extra 15 minutes cause I though we have full 2 hours instead of 1.5 hours. This is so crappy... They ultimately told me they will listen in to the phone calls of the recording and then called back n told me what their rep said or did not say... Completely lying idiots...I don't know how to take an action against such fishing customer services. I need advise on getting such behavior fixed in the society. read more

Monday morning rainy day brightened by Manhattan Mini drivers Owen Robinson and Luis Amaro. I used the free shuttle service from my apartment to Manhattan Mini on W 17th Street. Covid has been rough, but thank goodness Loretta and the rest of the staff at 520 W 17th Street were there for me. Recently, an apartment I was going to move to fell through and I had to get another last minute storage unit to store my stuff until I moved. I was SO upset and Loretta was SO KIND AND HELPFUL!!! She calmed me down and I could have NEVER done my move without her. She waited until I was able to come to the unit on a late Sunday night. Loretta really went above and beyond what she was required to do. I honestly don't know what I would have done without her. Hands down, Loretta is the BEST!!
