I wish I did not have to write this review, but prospective customers should know what they may be getting into, so I'll share. I rented a large unit after a move to store furniture from my former place. My rate was nearly doubled in the first six months which of course felt like a scam because it is one. After dwindling down the belongings of that bigger storage unit, I had so little things that I wanted to switch to a smaller unit in the same facility. I had arranged a move out date for my bigger unit, prepaid 6 months upfront for a smaller unit, and set a date aside with movers and trash collectors to move out my stuff and end up with only what I was keeping in the smaller unit. The logistics of planning this were a nightmare. So I come after work one evening to do the move, and when I open the smaller unit I would be moving into, there was a pile of poop in the corner. This unit had a tag that said "ready to rent" and certified it was "clean to Extra Space Storage Standard" for a new tenant to move into, zip tied so nobody would be able to go in after it was tagged! Not only is this extremely vile, it's unsettling. I would have never imagined this in a million years. The person who works in the office claims he checked it before putting the tag on it, so either he didn't check it, or he saw it and tagged it as clean aor he pooped in there himself. Save yourself the headache, the cash, and the nausea. Get a storage unit anywhere else. read more

This is a very convenient and clean climate controlled storage place to store your furnitures, decluttering or moving . I came here to store some friends furniture. It was store for less than a month. As we Got the first month free but have to pay the one time Registration fee. The communication was great. The general representative that signed us on was amazing and then we immediately got a call from The manager of the store location who was also very professional and nice. When moving out of the space, all we did was called few days before the next payment. Easy breezy to move in and to move out. But, After visiting this storage and seeing how clean, safe, convenient it was to self access the storage I decided to cancel my own storage units where I had my things stored for over a decade. I'm looking to book a space here and hopefully have a wonderful experience. read more

This is our second Storage Unit in Hoboken. Having used and scoped out others, this is easily the best kept up in Hoboken. Sure, it's very North and a little out of the way, but it's secure and clean. Elba the manager is really thorough in the renting process and Javier, who's also in the office is very accommodating as well. Access hours are great and some of the best in Hoboken. 7 days a week from 6am-10pm is hard to beat. One of the biggest selling points is that after signing a hold harmless agreement, they'll accept packages for you! That's a huge win in Hoboken especially if you're not able to sign for one while at work or away. Pull carts are available, garbage access and they have bathrooms for use. Really great experience so far and looking forward to many more months. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Worst customer service, everyone is always in a pissy mood, no smiles from anyone. They jack up your rates every 6 months and they don't let you throw out flattened boxes like they say. The parking lot is is also undrivable with huge bumps and craters in the pavement. They raise the rental fee whenever they please and barely work with you to reduce the price and if you have an issue they won't try and help you either. The facility itself is great but how they operate is horrible and I can't wait to find a new storage place. Every August is a $20 rent increase, I hope you don't plan on staying with them long term. I have to tell you that during these crazy times moving was something that was causing so much stress. Finding a storage space that I felt comfortable with was another issue. This was going to be a place where I was going to keep many of my prized possessions, items that cannot be replaced, things that have deep sentimental value. Let me just say that the manager Gabe at Extra Space Storage is such an amazing person. He answered any and every question I had. The prices they have are very affordable, the storage units are monitored by video surveillance and that was an extra plus. The fact that I kept running out of tape and boxes was another thing, but an easy pickup while I was moving things in. if you thought you had heard everything, hold onto your hat. I have been a client here for over ten years. First of all, you get MANY rent increases and the contract has no limitations on what amounts they can be OR how often. In fairness, they have reduced (never waived) some of my MANY increases over the years. So recently I shopped around to other storage places in Hoboken and they are all cheaper for my size than what I pay here. Then I checked the extra space online site and I see new customers can get the same size unit as mine for $100 less than I pay per month. So, I called the head office to deal with a district manager (bc the onsite manager, Alba is absolutely useless). So, as I guessed, they wouldn't do the right thing and drop my rate by $100 or even half that to treat a ten year client the same as a brand new client. not surprised. So, I told them I made a reservation under my husbands name and he would rent a new unit and I'd move ALL my stuff into it. Guess what ?? They said they would not let my husband rent a unit, even though he is new customer. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? They canceled the online res we had set up.. which I am fairly sure is a better business bureau issue, which is what I will be filing next. So, do yourself a favor. Don't rent here. If they treat a ten year client this way, And intentionally pick and chose who they allow to have their online offers what will they do to you ? read more

Compared to other storage facilities, this location feels clean and secure, and felt like a decent buy. But monthly RATES GO UP, UP, UP. I shopped for the best deal comparing only starting prices. But my rate has gone up $10 every six months. I guess that is the business model. They count on you being too lazy to move your stuff again to get the rate down. Very frustrating. !!!!WARNING!!!!!! This place is an absolute rip-off. They WILL significantly raise your rates at least twice in the first year. I just got another rate bump in the mail, so I'm out in the next week. The manager is a complete pain in the ass , impossible to deal with, and will not support or help you when things, such as water damage, accidents, etc happen. She actually called me at home and yelled at me when I had to leave a vehicle parked in their lot for a few hours while i ran around coordinating my move. I should have bailed out then, but how could I?? The movers were hired, the trucks were half unloaded, and there was nothing I could do. Check in was easy. Price was incredible. Convenient location with easy access. Very clean. Best of all this is my third storage rental and this unit had a swing open NOT roll up door. So much easier to open and lock. Also you don't have to worry about your items being too close to door so it will not roll down. read more

I've been an extra space customer for several years, but their behavior lately is making me consider other storage options. About a year ago I transferred my belongings from a larger unit to a slightly smaller one that was available for a reduced rate. And a month ago I experienced a substantial monthly rate increase (from $188 to $210 - approximately 12%). Evidently this is a significant part (if not a pillar) of their business plan - like a teaser rate on a subprime ARM. I believe that by state law storage facilities are allowed a certain percentage annual rate increase, which I am going to investigate as I see Extra Space's unannounced and unexplained increase unconscionable. (I'm guessing the right/option to swindle me annually was mentioned - or alluded to - in extra small font on page 69 of the rental contract.) My advice is to pin this slippery company down and demand the timing and amount of future rate increases before signing a contract. I hope what I detailed above helps those seeking storage space save a lot of money and aggravation. read more

honestly this place SUCKS. they acquired tuck it away storage which was incredible. they included trucks to pick up your stuff and drop it off once you were done using their space. they've basically thrown all that out the window and are not compensating customers who never had an original contract with them. ALSO - i want to move out on the 3rd but they're telling me if i have to pay for the ENTIRE MONTH if i dont move my stuff out by the 31st. This is the WORST customer service i have ever seen. I have been with Extra Space Storage since they bought out Tuck It Away in August, 2017. I thought T I A was pretty bad. - Extra Space promised us a keyless entry system when they took over. Still nothing (1/10/18). You have to call the nearby facility and hope they pick up. Once they do, you have to wait, sometimes in the freezing cold or rain, 3- 20 minutes for someone to come and open the door, longer if you need the elevator. - The elevator froze up the other day (the building has seemingly no heat- the toilet bowl contents were frozen too, yuck!) so I had to carry all my heavy stuff up the stairs. - They also promised to self service the elevator so we don't have to wait for an attendant. Since August. In all this time (it takes less than 1 day to install a keyless entry system) they would not put an attendant at our facility to open the door. If this keeps up, I will move out as soon as it gets a bit warmer. STAY AWAY! read more

I have only been a client of extra space storage in Hoboken for 3 months, I just received notification that my rent will increase over 50%. I could handle 10 maybe 20 dollar increases but 3 months and then a larger than 50% increase is absurd. I called just to talk it over and was told she was on a walk though and she would look into my account and call me back before the end of the day. She never called back. Don't trust them. This is not good business and they rely on you not wanting to move your stuff again and just paying the rate increase. I will not only blast here but on the Hoboken message boards too. The worst storage facility I've ever used. I signed a lease and 5 months later they raised my rent $30 dollars citing that my lease allowed them to do so. Of course they don't tell you this when you rent. I called three different times to speak with someone and the manager "Alba" never returned my calls. I finally went to the storage facility to speak with someone. Alba was horribly rude and proceeded to roll her eyes at me when I asked for her supervisors name and number. She informed me that the lease authorizes them to raise the rent "whenever they feel like it" A complete bait and switch. Not worth it! read more

The facilities and staff are great, HOWEVER, the rent constantly increases. When I started five years ago the 5' X 10'space was $129 per month. Today it is $209 and change. That is just over a 60% increase in five years, yet the space hasn't grown any larger. The last increase was only 9 months ago. There are always one or two increases per year and these are not small increases. read more
