This is an unscrupulous business who treats its customers like they are children, and violate their own policies, just to make a few more dollars. On more than one occasion, they have: * raised rates DRAMATICALLY as early as 6 months into the contract * never communicated the above to customer, and since the contract says they MUST tell customer in advance, they don't, and they shouldn't be allowing themselves to violate these terms, but they regularly do * went into customers storage units without permission and without notifying customer that they went in (not before OR after intrusion) * tried to fine & otherwise penalize customer for other people's behavior, who are not on the contract, merely people they assume are affiliated with primary customer * restrict access on paid up accounts, without telling customer why and without giving customer timely information or prompt ways of appealing such decisions, including references to unavailable or unresponsive managers, and no service avenues for requesting refunds for unfairly restricted access * will always try and NOT prorate monthly service fees, ie as soon as the month turns from its last day to the 1st of the next month, they will charge you for the whole month; no matter which day you move out, even the 1st day of month. This business is NOT all it is cracked up to be, and takes advantage of customers - with intimidation and other tactics designed solely to milk the customer; which is entrusted with no good faith and regular disdain. They will hang you up on ANY issue you bring to them in a way that is min their financial favor, and decisions are made arbitrarily, with agents allowed leeway to overreach. This is bad karma, and this is the way a bad business is run. Don't waste your money or risk your belongings. Zero stars, really. read more

Bait and switch with pricing. In 13 months, they have increased their pricing by 80% for a 10x10 unit. Note this is the pricing *after* the first month for $1, and second month at 50% promo -- the 80% discount is from the list pricing 13 months ago to the new notice of an increase I just received. On the positive side, the staff at the location is friendly, and the space is clean. Public Storage just isn't a good solution for more than a couple months at a time. read more

Recently, on May 23rd, 2024, all of my belongings in a @publicstorage unit in the Bronx were auctioned off online by @storagetreasure I did NOT abandon my property. This has caused significant hardship, especially as I'm currently battling cancer. On that Sat May 25th, I was rushed to the emergency room for stress (17 hours of Regurgitating bile). I have been on my own since I was 16 years old. I don't have family assisting me. I grew up in foster care. I'm the 1st generation to get past high school. I suffer from psychosomatic nerve pain, PTSD, anxiety & depression from childhood trauma & my son's death. Everything I owned was in that storage unit. I literally have nothing left! For context, I've been a Public Storage customer since 10/2022. Unfortunately, due to my health struggles, I temporarily fell behind on a recent payment. I was unaware that the unit contents would be auctioned so quickly, especially without any attempt to contact me beforehand to discuss potential solutions. This incident has resulted in the loss of irreplaceable sentimental items, including photos, (I worked hard for my master's degree, but now I have no diplomas to prove it) diplomas, identification & even my son's ashes. While I understand the need for businesses to enforce payment policies, in this instance, a more humane approach could have prevented significant emotional distress. read more

Although this facility tends to offer very reasonable introductory rates, they are very short-lived. The rates tend to jump between $30 and as much as $50 dollars within a few months. Currently, I am due a refund due to an error and found out that it takes 4 to 6 weeks to process. That is unsatisfactory and ridiculous. We are in 2024. You can take my money within 3 business days but take over a month to give it back. That is bad business! read more

I got a 3 x 3 storage unit for a great price. Its pretty small but I'm still able to fit things inside. I haven't met with any of the employees as of yet, I purchased my unit online and received instructions through email. One thing that I did notice is that every-time I visit the storage unit theres no carts to use if you have multiple things to transport. Today was the first time out of 4xs that there were actual carts available. Other than that I have no other issues. read more

This storage facility is Money Hungry!! I moved here from storage upstate where I lived. They advertised the price was $300 dollars + for the online fee to reel me in, once I got there couple months later rent started going up not even a year in! They told me they go up on the rent WITHOUT notice, and this can happen multiple times a year. I pay on-time and this month asked for an extention cause I had surgery, and didn't wanna get charged the late fee so I called them in advance, oh yeah, and the late fee is 80 dollars, and I was told NO they don't give extentions. So the rent is due on the 1st and their telling me my stuff is going up for auction already, and it's only the 12th the month I'm 5 days late for the payment not even close to the end of the month. I'm moving out very soon. So do yourself a favor, DON'T rent here, unless you want to feel like a bill collector is on your ass, and your constantly being ripped off!! read more

I attempted to rent a second unit from this location and the service was horrible. After being disregarded when assistance was needed, my husband was upset and verbally disagreed with the attendant. The same attendant had a "Friend" come to the location and walk up to my car with my husband and 14-year-old son inside to threaten and mock him for not engaging in an altercation to the point my husband felt the need to leave the premises. When I advised the supervisor and District manager I was informed the employee felt unsafe (even with my husband sitting in the car and not engaging with anyone after being approached) to the point I was not allowed to rent a unit. The employee was not held accountable for their actions in escalating the situation. Complete disregard for the customer, not worth the hassle read more

Highly DISGUSTED! I had a high opinion of the place when I initially moved in 6 months ago and had no issues until I moved out. Only 1 elevator was working on 2/27. This is the last weekend of the month and traffic is always high on these days, it in totally inexcusable to have this poor service during these times. I spent 4 hours waiting for elevators to take things to the truck or come back up for more. Many times the elevator was naturally full with other customers. The staff did nothing but make announcements about being patient and, even spoke over my wife when she tried to give suggestions like have a staff member man the elevator. I was moving into a new place and no longer needed the storage but, this validated my decision and will gladly not spend another dime with this place! The rates went up 33% after the initial 6 months so, my decision was easy but, this was the cherry on top. Storage Deluxe also manages the in building Storage room for my new place but, this incident soured me so much that, even the convenience of having a unit right downstairs in my own building, I'll never do business with them again! read more

Been a customer since 2014 but probably won't be for much longer. In 2016, an employee admitted having given someone my entrance code, which they then used to enter the facility and drill my lock. Not only was management unhelpful and unapologetic, but the employee who witnessed/spoke to the person doing this refused to participate in the police report investigation. (I had their names and was able to add them later.) Then they charged me for a new lock! On Sunday January 14th, my husband and I came to drop off things and saw 2 homeless men hanging out inside the facility, asking to help people. One sat on the carts where you enter your security code, while the second was beyond the secure entrance, sitting on a crate next to the elevators. Together, they cover the two ends of a long hallway. When we asked staff about this and raised security concerns, they argued "they're there to help people" so the location KNOWS this is going on and allows it. When we asked if these people are employees, staff replied "well, no so we can't give them shirts but they're there to help." Not good answers. And not satisfactory response for a place that touts safe storage/access as part of their service. As a woman who visits alone sometimes and has been approached by these men, it doesn't feel safe or secure. Further, staff has said they do NOT have cameras on the individual floors as a matter of privacy. You can be followed to your unit and hurt/robbed for all they know and allowing homeless men to be on premise INSIDE the facility and approach customers only increases that risk. The staff shrugged when that fact was brought to their attention. I called a district manager the same day and am STILL waiting for a reply. Different manager than they had in 2016 when I had a break-in attempt, so I was hoping for a better result. A second call has brought no response. read more

Edited to say THEY FLEECE YOU. They keep jacking up the rent by double digits. Nice facility, but they hook you and fleece you. This place is nicer than some hotels I've stayed in. Seriously - I was kind of shocked by how awesome it is. You go to a storage place expecting something very industrial and shabby with cranky staff (at least that was my experience with some storage places in Brooklyn). But this place is brand new, super clean, the staff are actually enthusiastic. It is super secure (they give you your own personalized key code), and the prices are amazing. I consolidated two other storage spaces into one huge room here and ended up saving money and having plenty of space left over. Never thought I'd gush about a storage space - but this place is about as good as it gets. (And it is convenient to trains) read more

The day my boyfriend and I moved, we needed to find a storage unit in a pinch. 5 minutes before closing Stanley assured us we could still rent a unit, while many other storage facilities in the area were very unhelpful. Stanley was kind and patient enough to stay passed closing in order for myself and another party to move in their stuff. Because the facility is so new, the units are clean, and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I will continue to store things here, and highly recommend this facility. I found this place doing a search online and made a reservation for because I found a VERY favorable rate (i.e. the same price as another space I'm renting in Long Island City that is 1/3 the size). I came in with a chip on my shoulder because (i) it was early on a Saturday morning, because (ii) I was ready for the bait-and-switch since the price was too good to be true & because (iii) both of the above, because I was sure I got up early on a Saturday morning either to get bs'ed or ripped off. I was wrong. The facility is brand new & it's still in the "grand opening" phases, hence why the rates were so good. The space was perfect, i.e. a perfectly shaped rectangle in the dimensions advertised, no beams in the middle, no loss in the corner, no funny dip in the floor that makes moving and storing such a pain in the ass. I was helped by Tameka and Ruth, both of whom stayed friendly and professional despite my bad attitude and answered every question I threw at them like champions- and I had a lot. They were both very knowledgeable and total professionals. Full recommendations. I am very happy that I found the ad & rented this space. read more

I just switched to this facility from Manhattan Mini Storage in the city. I liked Man Mini but Public in the Bronx is half price and only minutes from the city. Facility is new and clean, it has parking and docking lot and it is right off the exit. I enjoyed my interactions with manager Genisha who had me set and going in no time! Everyone is helpful and friendly. Very happy with Public on Gerard Ave so far. read more

This place is AMAZING. It's new, very clean, professionally run, and everyone is incredibly nice and helpful. I completely agree with the other reviewer who said that this place is nicer than some hotels I've stayed in. It's true--it is that nice. Initially, when I moved in, Aixa showed me around and she was super helpful and wonderful and showed me how everything worked. They have very helpful opening hours (8am-8pm every day), they are constantly cleaning so everything is tidy and well kept, they respond to customer concerns promptly, very secure, and the prices are GREAT. It's also easy to access both by car and by public transit (it's very close to 149th-Grand Concourse). Later, I actually needed help again because I needed to move in more stuff than I expected. I needed to upgrade to a larger space and they were completely helpful and accommodating. They didn't give me a hard time about it, and they made the whole process incredibly convenient and easy. Genisha helped me with this part of the whole experience, and she was similarly wonderful and helpful. This place is great--recommend to everyone! read more

My experience with the staff at public storage has been nothing but AMAZING customer service. My reservation disappeared and Will the customer service rep was extraordinary. He looked into the situation for me and when he couldn't get back later that day, he called the following morning and left me a detailed message. Will explained to me, what happened and told me his scheduled Monday - Sunday, so when I called back I would know when he was available. That alone is fantastic. Having to know that information is so helpful because I wouldn't have to explain myself to another customer service rep. When I went into the location, there was a slight problem and the manager Miguel swooped in and found a fast solution. Not only was Will and Miguel's disposition professional, they also delivered it with a smile. Will showed me my storage unit and went through every paperwork that I needed to sigh and what it meant. You don't usually get great customer service but when you do it really helps a difficult situation, in which I was going through. When I went back in, on a Sunday February 25th there was another confusion and again Miguel was so incredibly kind, and found a solution that really helped me out. His leadership and the way he handles customers shows why he is the manager. This staff has been nothing but professional since the day I walked into this location. The staff there was incredible and super helpful. The prices are way more reasonable than in the city and the loading dock on the bottom makes it super easy for movers to get big big furniture items in the facility. The space is new, clean, cool (climate controlled) -- all you can ask for in a storage space. Diontae was very friendly and seamlessly signed me up for a large storage bin. If you're only planning on storing for a month its a $1 + admin costs so WELL WORTH it. I would recommend this location to friends and family in need or a storage space in a heartbeat! read more

Beautiful establishment. Too bad the service is horrendous! I like to keep to myself when I'm at my storage unit. However, yesterday my boyfriend in a wheelchair and I ran 5 minutes past closing time and we were asked to leave. So we did. All the gates were locked and we couldn't get out. We sat there waiting for the gate to open but it didn't. I could see five employees through the window laughing at us. Finally we rolled up to another gate with stairs. He was forced to crawl down the flight of stairs. One girl was waving at us as we did so. It was humiliating. My pal Dave was there with us. Dave helped me carry the wheelchair down the stairs. read more

It's a very clean facility, staff is very nice and helpful. It is the nicest facility in the area and beats the filthy rat infested Kingsbridge Uhaul I was at by far, and I would have given five stars but potential renters need to be aware that there are many undisclosed and hidden fees to move in, there is limited parking (so you may have to wait for a spot on the weekends), and this is not a handicap friendly facility. The advertised $1. first month isn't even close to move in fee. There is an administration fee of $22. and your reservation will tell you - in print- that you need $23. to move in THIS IS NOT TRUE! Though your reservation slip and the website doesn't mention anything about it -this facility REQUIRES you to purchase their cylinder lock at $17.99 + tax and you must have insurance ... either pay for theirs or have your own so don't go expecting to only spend $23 for the first month - it amounts to triple that. If you are handicapped - you will find only one handicap spot and a hill in the parking lot or steps at the loading dock. The handicap spot is not close to the loading door and most doors do not open automatically. Tried 5 (filthy) Carts and all have bad wheels that do not turn easily or at all and must be pulled not pushed, so if you don't have that ability, good luck wheeling your stuff in. Also, they do not reserve units close to elevator for handicapped persons so you will need to maneuver to wherever they put you. As far as security, bring a padlock because the cylinder locks they require you to buy are flimsy. We didn't notice any security cameras or staff walking around the unit floors. You do get an access code that must be entered to get in and up the elevators but once you punch in your code, more than one person can get in behind you. On the positive side, staff is great and it's new so facility and units are very clean but have to mention that many carts are dirty and we did see people moving boxed food in and the first unit we looked at had a green liquid in it leaking from the unit next door. Hallways are well lit but bring a portable light if you want to see anything inside your unit. You should also know to bring your own garbage bag because there isn't a garbage can in the place so you can't even throw out a dirty tissue. read more

I had a storage unit here for about 5 months, yesterday was my last day. I gave the place 4 stars because the hours I can get my stuff does not work with my schedule, but the staff has been amazing. I was running so late for work, and Miguel was sooo helpful! His eagerness to assist me on my last day was so appreciated, He treated me as if I was just moving in. I have been at this facility for about 2 years. I rented a space on a memorial day special. The rate was around $130.00 give or take a few dollars.. In 2 years it has been increased, increased, increased so that at the end of this year it has gone up to $202.00 Forget about the specials. Public Storage will not hold to the advertised specials. I was in the facility less than a year before I received my first increase. The facility is clean and somewhat new. The staff was decent to me evenly let me move in some of my stuff at closing time. I was even able to park the Uhaul over night because we didn't finish moving in the first time around. I, however, have heard them with other customers. Some customers have forgotten that "you catch more flies with honey rather than vinegar." But when you work with the public you have to remain level headed. I am upset about the mountains of increases. Specials means nothing to this company. They will increase until you are not saving at all. I will be moving my things out to a cheaper storage facility. Im looking at Extra Space. Rates are reasonable. Decent reviews. read more
