Found a local tailor and decided to support them. Brought a suit (coat/trousers) and a pair of slacks to get tailored. When I called they said hemming pants were $20, which is fair and industry standard. Boy was I in for a surprise when I picked up my clothing. Work performed: -coat taken in, and shelves shortened. -suit trouser hemmed and waist taken in. -slacks hemmed. Total price of $198... Also they wanted me to pick up in 4 weeks... which I told them I needed it for a wedding in 2 weeks. They accommodated the 2 week deadline which was nice. But I had to come back bc they didn't take the waist In enough. Either way this is ridiculous for an off the rack suit tailoring. They do nothing special that any other competent tailor couldn't do. Thought I'd support the mom n pop local business but they decided that ripping people off was their motto. Next time I'm taking my stuff to Nordstrom, would've cost half the price. read more

I wanted to tell everyone I can about one of the best tailors I have been to. I had lost a considerable amount of weight. When I tried to find someone to fix 10 very expensive suits I was told it can't be done. There is no way to do. Well I brought all 10 suits to them and they have never fit better. This review is long overdue! But Marlene pulled off such a miracle for my wedding I had to get on yelp and show photos. I have been going here for 10 years and she's amazing!!! I made the mistake of taking my wedding dresses to a bridal tailor referred by the store I bought my dress in. I just assumed I should take a wedding dress to a wedding tailor despite my long history using Marlene. Not only was their price quadruple but they basically ruined my reception dress, so I picked up both my reception dress and my wedding dress and brought them to Manhattan Tailors on a rescue mission. I had 5 days til I had to leave for my wedding. She SAVED a dress i thought was ruined- I'll post photos of the dress after the (other tailors first bad alterations, then after she saved it.) She also altered my wedding dress (which had a built in corset we removed 10 inches off the offset hips) and added an incredible bustle. She did this in 5 days!!!! She mistakenly got the wrong date and didn't finish in time and because I needed the dress ASAP she worked over time to get it done for me by the next day. Bravo! The cowl neck slip dress is super difficult to tailor but she's super skilled, concise, and patient. We unpinned and repinned like 4 times and when I tried on the dress once she was done and wasn't pleased, she was happy to make some adjustments. I recommend this place. A business colleague of mine recommended me to come to this tailor shop for my dream vintage wedding dress to be altered. I was a bit nervous because of the time I had left for my wedding and the amount of alterations it needed. I just had to have this dress. I called Manhattan Beach Tailor first and the woman that answered was so helpful and made me feel less stressed about it after I talked her ear off about my situation. I came in immediately and she was just as friendly in person. We talked a little more about the dress and she started to work immediately. After a couple fittings I went in once more for my last fitting and it started to come along just like I had wanted. And when I finally got the phone call that my dress was ready....my maid of honor and I both couldn't wait and rushed over to pick it up and it was exactly what I wanted. I was so happy. It's been a year and now, and, locked inside due to COVID 19, I have no more excuses to postpone writing reviews (very relevant, I know). I got my wedding dress one month before my wedding. No one I contacted was brave enough to take on this challenge. I was feeling desperate, nervous (also hard to please) and was about to take the matter in my own hands. That would be a disaster, since all I ever altered was a skirt in 6th grade. Well, my mom altered it... you get the point :)). Anyway, this was the last place I was going to try. From the first look Marlen knew exactly what had to be fixed and how to do it. I knew she was a right person and that we were on the same page right away. She definitely knew what she was doing. Marlen altered my super complex wedding dress with beads and lace without compromising the pattern. I have no idea how. It looked like it was never even touched. You may think it is expected, but there were layers! leaves! flowers! beads! sequins! boning! and all kind of crazy stuff (don't judge me). Do not go here! Recently I dropped of a bridesmaid dress for minor alterations. Today I went to pick up my $300 dress only to find a tear in the chest and on the shoulder. I was told it was there when I dropped it off, however I can assure you it wasn't. It was purchased brand new and taken straight to this tailor. Not only did I have 2 visible rips, but the hem on the bottom is fraying and additionally two oil stains along the bottom. Unfortunately I don't have time to special order this dress again for the wedding since I'm under a time crunch. I took the dress immediately to Patterson Cleaners on Sepulveda and they're working to try and save this dress. I wish I would've taken it there to begin with. What really upset me is the owner kept saying... it was there, it was there and not taking accountability. I asked her why she wouldn't have called me before altering the dress to begin with. She knew she had messed up. Then changed her story and ultimately admitted and didn't charge me. Please - for anything special do not go to this place. Wouldn't wish this upon anyone. read more

Due to COVID, my wedding was pushed and I had to plan it all in ten weeks. When I was first recommended to this shop, I was so grateful that the seamstress was so responsive and willing to accommodate doing alterations to my wedding dress with such little notice. My wedding dress is designed to be slipped into (no zippers). It is very slimming and simple. I saw the owner the same week I contacted her and told her I needed it taken in some areas. She started with pinning it. Due to the dress being a slip on, it was difficult to get out of with all the pins in. She was so helpful getting me out of it and said she would take it in but not cut the fabric (just in case it was too tight and we needed to let it out some). I agreed and came back the next week for my second appointment. I was able to get into it just fine, but again- had trouble getting out of it without some assistance. I assured her I'd drop at least another 5-10 pounds before the wedding day (which I did), and said it was okay for her to cut the fabric. I came back (now my third appointment). None of the fabric had been cut AT ALL and no changes had been made. This time my maid of honor was with me and pointed out that the dress was dirty (literal dirt stains) and the seam was crooked and in the shape of an S (instead of straight). I was told this was because the fabric had not been cut yet. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and allowed her to continue with alterations, but really emphasized that I would like her to be careful with her handling of the dress (and asked she not get it any more dirty and stop hanging it by the dainty dress straps and hang it by the designers straps). When I returned to my FOURTH APPOINTMENT, ALL the fabric that had been taken in was cut and THEN SOME MORE. I could no longer easily get into my dress and I BARELY could get out of it with assistance. (At this point I was ten pounds lighter than when we started alterations). The seam that was not straight at the previous appointment was now worse and more prominent. The dress was filthy. I left my appointment distraught and cried the entire night. (THIS WAS ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE MY WEDDING DAY). I went back the next morning and took my dress from this shop and didn't allow anymore alterations to be done. Long story short- I ended up having to buy another wedding dress two weeks before my wedding and pay another seamstress to try to fix the mess that was done on my original dress. Planning a wedding is stressful enough, but this botch job to my wedding dress really took the cake for stressing out a bride. I write this not to shame this business, but to forewarn brides. read more

I do not get the five stars. Three of them are from the past month so, i am guessing they aren't real or they ask people to post them. I took in three sheath style dresses to be taken in. After Marlena's alterations, two of them are uncomfortably tight in the bust and the other one was gathering up in the back. When i returned with the dresses, Marlena continued to argue with me that she didnt do anything to cause the dresses to be tight in the bust. Ins spite of the fat that they didnt fit like that when i dropped then off. I asked her to fix the other dress to get rid of the way it was gathering in the back. She said she just needed to let it out a little in the hips. When i returned, she said she had undone all of the work she previously did, including what i paid for...which is one thing. The bigger problem is the dress looks terrible, it now hangs on me and is still messed up in the back. It looked better before i took it to her. So, basically, I paid her money to ruin a $100 dress. And, she could not have cared less. No apology or explanation. I hope the dress can be fixed. Taking all three dresses into my regular tailor, Matucci, in redondo to have the bust let out in the two and hoping they can salvage the third. read more
