Friendly taylor! Are you kidding me. Stood with my daughter and wedding gown for 10 minutes before she even acknowledged us. So rude. Then when dress was on just criticized my daughter, the dress and all the problems she would encounter when altering. We did not want her to touch the gown with this attitude. Find another place. I've come to this tailor many times now and have always find them helpful and doing a great job! From bathing suit to denim, they've been able to work with different materials and the results were always impeccable. The turnaround is also very quick, and if there's something they can't do, they are honest and let you know ahead of time, rather than taking your money. I'm very disappointed. I've used this tailor before a few times and they did a good job on some simple projects. So I trusted them to shorten some very nice, fairly expensive jeans. Good jeans have a distinctive hemline that can be preserved when the jeans are shortened. It's time-consuming and takes several steps, but I'm very willing to pay for good tailoring. I specifically asked to preserve the hem. I asked twice. When I picked up the jeans, they didn't have the original hem at all. They had that straight, bright yellow "tailor stitch" that really doesn't match the original. For some reason the tailor did preserve the original fold, but not the original stitching. When I asked why my order wasn't right, she told me that "around here" everyone wants to sew OVER the original hem because they do not like it. ?!!! This makes no sense. Why would you specifically ask (and pay) to preserve the hem if you're not going to preserve the stitching? And why is "around here" different from every other place I've gotten my jeans tailored? She told me it's not my fault because I'm new, but that I asked wrong and next time I need to ask differently. (Although she did not tell me what magic words I should say.) I've been shortening my jeans all my life, and at least since the 1990's I've been preserving the hemline when I do it. I asked the same way this time as I have for the past 30 years. I don't think that the customer is always right, but in this case I don't think I could have been more clear. After the shop ruined my nice jeans, it REALLY doesn't help for them to tell me it's all my own fault. My recommendation is to use this establishment for very simple sewing, but don't trust them with anything that approaches actual tailoring. read more

When I picked up my item, I pointed out to the person at checkout that on one side of the straps altered, the work was crooked. My comment was met with indifference and rudeness, but since I didn't have time to have the work re-done, I paid for the item and asked a question. He then walked away from me. Turned his back and walked away, ignoring my question. The tailor may be Friendly but the employees are anything but! read more

I have come here for MANY different items--from an extremely complicated silk vintage dress that had to be completely changed to fit me, to simple hems. I've never had a single bad experience. She's not cheap, but there aren't very many good tailors left these days. So it seems fair enough to me! read more

A terrific, Old School Tailor, right on PCH in Manhattan Bch- I have brought in New clothes for fitting / alteration, & old clothes for repair- The work is always Timely, reasonably priced, and flawless- cannot say enough how happy I am with them- I recently brought in my favorite old shirt- (Purchased in the late '80's) it had frayed cuffs, and the inside of the collar was threadbare- They somehow manged to do a blind hem of only about 1/8 in on the cuffs, and then completely removed the collar, turned it around, with a nice ribbon binding the threadbare portion, which is now "Inside the fold"- I paid far less than I was expecting, as well- GREAT People- read more

Friendly? Not once during this experience did either the owner of her worker act friendly. I needed a pair of suit pants altered for a wedding. First off, the process of getting fitted was miserable. She was rude and disagreed with everything I asked for. I was in a rush and just went with it. I should have walked out right there. The energy from her was bad from the start. Rude and inconsiderate. Either way, she said it would be $30, so I said screw it, and gave her the pants. I come to pick them up a week later, and she says "ok that will be $65." I told her that was not the price she quoted me, and she began yelling at me that she had to do all of this extra stuff to them which made the price go up. Absolutely rediculous. Begrudgingly, I gave her my money and left. Just because you're located in Manhattan beach, does not mean you can rob people or treat them like crap. Don't waste your precious time, or your money, by walking in the doors of this "buisiness." read more

The quality of their work is top notch. I've brought items that I thought would be super hard to fix and they did a good job. I've taken jeans, dresses, pants, etc...my only complaint is that their prices are a bit high for some items. I had a zipper fixed on a dress for $40, which I understand is a lot of work given that the dress was very delicate. For some items like jeans though their prices are standard. Overall this is a place I drive back to even though I moved to a different city because I know they will do a good job. In the end, you get what you pay for. read more

I just picked up some items today that I had altered at the Friendly Tailor and, as always, the results are outstanding! It's unbelievable what a difference custom tailoring makes when you have something that's been sitting in your closet unworn because the fit "wasn't quite right". I had the waistband on the "mom" pants of my favorite suit lowered (which my actual mom said couldn't be done without ruining them) and the waist of two corset tops taken in and, boy, do they look sharp!! Trying them on afterwards was like trying on totally new clothes...thanks to the talented folks at The Friendly Tailor, my clothes went from "meh" to "WoW!!! I can't wait to wear them!!" As usual, I am 100% satisfied and absolutely recommend The Friendly Tailor to anyone and everyone who needs custom tailoring. A+++ read more

I've taken five suits here to get alterations. I didn't know what an outstanding job they do until I tried a place a little closer to my home. Every time I've gotten a suit back from here, the alterations have been invisible. As though my suit fit magically off the rack. The workmanship is great. I tried another place (this week!) -- they were awful. (I won't name names, but they are a Tux shop on PCH in Redondo.) When I got my suit coat back, the lining was all puffy inside the sleeves, so it no longer fit right. Also the stitching was obvious and ugly. Oh harsh karma! I should have been loyal! Friendly Tailor will be my only tailor from now on, as long as I live in the South Bay. read more

I have lived in the South Bay my whole life. I have always used The Friendly Tailor. They are reliable, or at least they have always been for the 15 years or so I've been using this place. But I went in for a simple zipper fix for my jeans and the lady told me that they do not to zippers anymore simply because the tailor doesn't want to do them anymore. I just cannot endorse a place that just doesn't want to deal with apart of what their job is. So from now on I will go else where. read more

With excellent taste and attention to detail, The Friendly Tailor has mended, altered, tailored, and spruced up my vintage and new designer clothes for over ten years. Brought material in to make small, simple custom 1/2 window curtains for our kitchen. I gave her the dimensions for 4 different sized curtains, and told her I was using tension rods. She provided a hem for the tension rod to go through, but no entry/exit for the rod to actually go through. The worst part was that even though I gave her an index card with the specific dimensions for 4 DIFFERENT sized curtains (3 uniquely sized individual curtains, and 2 like-sized curtains), she made 6 curtains that were all the same size, and ironically, not ANY of the sizes that I asked for. I even told her that one was actually a top "valance". There was a language barrier issue going on. When I asked how she arrived at six 24" long curtains after I gave her all the specific dimensions, she didn't have an answer, yet she didn't admit fault. I will not be doing business here again. $125 NOT well-spent. read more

The Friendly Tailor is great. I wasn't sure where to take my wedding gown for alterations. I didn't want to go to Beverly Hills where some snobs wouldn't want to give me the time of day because they think they are too good. So a friend recommended The Friendly Tailor. I was very happy with the entire experience there. They are friendly, prompt, and very good at what they do. I had no doubt that my gown was in good hands. The only thing that held me back from giving 5 stars is that when I was there (several months ago now) their dressing rooms were a little small for putting on wedding gowns. I bought some jeans and all were very long. I got tired of having to roll them up all the time. I love that they took the time for me to put my jeans on one at a time, all 10 pair's and measured them. All look wonderful and it only cost me 80 bucks. Not to bad for awesome work. I brought my wedding gown, which was really just an evening dress, here for simple alterations -- take in the back and put cups in the bust. I had to go back several times ... the first time, the cups weren't sown in like I'd ask, and then the next time, I got home and noticed two of the seams where it had been taken in were puckering very visibly. Seemed sloppy ... especially when she knew this was my wedding dress. For pants and shirts, I'm sure she's fine, but with something important, I'd go somewhere else where they make you feel taken care of and do a more careful job. read more

I've taken two dresses here so far and VERY satisfied. They do amazing work and I would recommend them to everyone. The first dress was a bridesmaids dress that didn't fit my body correctly so the entire bodice needed work. They did it in 2 days AND you would never know it was altered! I brought a pair of pants to be repaired here and was very pleased with the work and the speed at which they were ready. I dropped them off on a Friday afternoon, and they were ready in a couple days. The owner was very kind, and she told me she would get them done on time so that I could take them with me on my trip a few days later. Definitely not the place to go for anything complicated (a long dress with a full skirt) or if you are in a jam. With 3 days notice she flat out refused to help me because it was "too complicated". I now have nothing to wear to my nieces wedding. I'm 5'1" and sometimes you just need last minute tailoring. If you want somewhere you can count on, go somewhere else. read more

I have used them one time before to hem a baby dress. Bought the same dress in this time and they charged me 3 times as much. i should have them quoted the price before leaving. $35 for baby hemming a dress is overly expensive..Sorry but will not be using them again. read more
