I've been missing decent Indian food in Spokane since the Great Taaj closed (even if some things were wanting their lunch buffet was great). I had heard good things about Mango Tree from friends but finally stopped in after doing some shopping downtown. It's in the building that housed the old Hills' Restaurant and Lounge. It looks like they did some minimal renovating and opened to an eager patron community. They were very busy with both dine-in and take-out on a Sunday evening. All tables were occupied and the staff were scrambling to clear tables. We were seated within 15 minutes and service was efficient despite the rush. I had to sample the mango lassi and it was verrrrry good. Mango-y, not overly sweet or artificial tasting, and on the thicker yogurty side like I prefer. Hubs and I ordered the chicken tikka masala and aloo gobi each with 3 stars, and both were tasty, as were the rice and Naan. We prefer moderate-to-heavy spice so could probably could have gone with 4 stars on their scale. We also would probably prefer a greater intensity of flavor in addition to more heat. We ordered pretty conservatively but their menu has interesting looking Indian cuisine-inspired offerings like naanchos and butter chicken poutine. Seems like a great place to stop in with friends or get take out on your way home from work. read more

Mango Tree is Indian food for uppity white people. There, I said it. Walking into Mango Tree, you instantly see what they're trying to do there: create a downtown nightclub complete with a bar that happens to serve Indian food. But the restaurant never really succeeds at either of those things. The interior is sparse and sterile in a way that's supposed to be evocative of the sleek, contemporary style of Starbucks or Panera Bread, but then it has this minimal, cheap overlay of Indian colors and decorations to remind you you're at an Indian restaurant. That said, if that Indian afterthought wasn't included, you'd assume when you walked in that you were at any hipster downtown bar. The food has a similar problem. The menu is called a "curated menu" to signal to we white people that this is "fancy" Indian food palatable for our refined palates. (Aren't all menus, by their very nature, "curated?") And what refined, curated items are on this menu? Pretentious pub fusions like naan nachos. The more standard fare like mattar paneer is ok, but not stellar. Likewise, the prices are high and the portions are small. ($17 for seven little cubes of paneer is robbery when a real Indian buffet is a few dollars cheaper.) The service is also poor, I think in part because it's not clear what kind of establishment this is. The service for a bar, a high-end restaurant, and a fast food chain should be different, after all, so I got the impressions servers weren't sure what they were suppose to be doing. If you are a fragile white person who wants to try (mediocre) Indian food in an environment that has been weirdly watered-down to cater to your frailty, Mango Tree is the perfect place for you! But if you want a great Indian meal, I suggest you go to A Taste if India up the road. read more

I ate here last night with a group of friends and the food was amazing! For a table of 5, our food came out FAST. They served us a huge plate of Naan bread (you get 4 big pieces each with certain dishes) and it was so bomb! I ordered the coconut chicken and my husband had the chili chicken. Both were delicious! I will most definitely be going back for more! The establishment was comfortable, clean, and had beautiful decor and fun colored walls and light fixtures. Just an all around nice restaurant. Delicious food. Have been to Mango Tree multiple times and have never been disappointed. The only criticism I have is that there is 1/3 portion too much. There is no way to finish a whole entre without diminishing the feeling if ecstacy that is obtained from the food at this restaurant. User than that, this food is eneffable! read more

I tried reaching out to Mango Tree to discuss this privately but have received no response, so Yelp it is. I have ordered from here several times and the most recent time I came to pick up my order and my order was on the floor of the restaurant behind the counter. When I told the man at the front counter that was not safe (or appropriate) he was instantly defensive and did not apologize. He said "well we don't have much space up here and it's in a plastic bag so germs can't get in there". Seriously? Pretty sure thats against health code. Not to mention when I got home my entire order was wrong. If this is how they store food out in the open I'm honestly concerned what happens in the kitchen. Won't be back. read more

Being Pakistani in the middle of Spokane, I don't get to eat much authentic Indian/Pakistani cuisine out here. When Mango Tree opened, I was very eager to try it. I loved it! I always eat at mango tree when I am missing my mom's food + when I don't feel like cooking myself. I am just not fond of the "Americanized" dishes like the Naanchos. Food was delicious! Great personality of the waiters they were nice guys, but service was slow and unorganized, you could tell they were still working out kinks, probably because they just opened. The Mango Tree gets it right! Indian food - GOOD Indian food - in Spokane has been a bit scarce since many other local spots just haven't seemed to maintain their quality standards - so the addition of The Mango Tree in downtown is a true delight. This isn't a place attempting to make you feel like you're in India, they just serve great food with a variety of menu items which range from standard dishes to more creative dishes - without trying too hard. I took my wife there last week and we both loved it. The servers were terrific, organized and they knew how to watch for - not interrupt - when you needed service. The 'Butter Chicken Poutine' (I said they are creative!) was amazing and more than enough to share and my Mango lamb was spicy (I chose 3 out of 5 for spiciness) and getting the coconut rice (delicious!) and the coconut Naan was the perfect touch. I still had more than enough left over for lunch the next day and it was just as good. They had just received their liquor license that day, so they were setting up what looked to be an impressive bar in the back, so I lok forward to returning soon. Well done! read more

The food here is great, despite the contemporary look. They actually make their curry hot, which is always a plus (one and two stars will be plenty for both). The staff are great and helpful, and were willing to work with me when I put an order in for the wrong location. The only thing keeping me from giving them five stars is the manager who was on shift. I don't remember much about him, but he was wearing a flat-billed baseball cap. He was being overly aggressive and demanding with his servers, going as far as to belittle them in front of customers for making small mistakes during a friday night rush. I give this place 4 stars for the atmosphere. We really liked the comfy chairs and corner table sort of set off to the side and enjoyed the quietness. The food was really good but we were sad to see there was no happy hour (or we missed it). We were looking for dinner but ended up getting an appetizer and went somewhere else for dinner. We visited Mango tree at spokane in june of 2021. I am really happy to find this place as it is hard to find any good indian restaurant between spokane to seattle route. Even if place looks american-indian and not traditional, food and taste was much better than any other restaurant we tried in spokane( taste of india). We had ordered Samosa( good taste and not at oily thats best), paneer tikka masala , garlic naan, salty lassi( good quantity) and daal makhni exactly how i would expect. JULIA , who works here is really nice. She seems really hard working and single handed attended most of the tables and made sure all of them get food on time. I love everything about this place. The location, the food, service was just awesome. I had the lunch special which was Butter Chicken, and also picked the side of chickpeas in a spicy tomato sauce. You pick from two sides. This also came with four pieces of naan bread and a small side salad. For $13, you get quite a bit of food. Sat outside on the patio. Great people watching too. Absolutely delicious food. Way, way better than any other Indian restaurant in the area. My boyfriend had the aloo tikki and veggie samosas and I had the butter chicken and palak paneer. All were delicious and on par with the better Indian food I've had in LA where I grew up. The chicken was good quality, and there weren't any of the weird, gnarly pieces like you often find at other Indian places around here. Super attractive location in downtown Spokane, I was part of a group of 11 for dinner on a Monday night. Reservations were made and a table was ready to go when we arrived at 6:15. Clearly, staffing to handle the entire restaurant was less than optimal. Our group was patient and let conversation help pass the time. As someone who has enjoyed Indian food for over 30 years in four states, I was familiar with a variety of dishes and hoped The Mango Tree would be on my list of favorites. The chicken tikka masala had a very different sauce and seasoning presentation. Curious. Enigmatic. Alternatively styled. It actually had more of a chicken vindaloo look. Other people in the party enjoyed coconut chicken, mango chicken, and a shrimp dish with varying degrees of satisfaction. This is a nice addition to the Indian food scene in Spokane. We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed all our dishes. Lots of vegetarian options.. I tried the naanchos, paratha and kofta, which were all great, and my companions enjoyed the mango chicken. The tea was a bit weak for my liking but that's my only complaint. Jackpot! I'm thrilled to have found this gem! After the Taaj closed I have been looking for a good Indian restaurant and boy did I find it! I ordered Malai Kofta hoping it would be decent. It far exceeded my expectations. It may be the best Malai Kofta I've ever had! Their rice and naan were also on point! The naan wasn't burnt at all and the rice was delicious on its own. Everything is high quality and flavorful! Spokane desperately needed this restaurant and I didn't even know it was coming! I cannot wait to go back.
