On my first visit my friend and I tried the lunch buffet. I was pleasantly surprised that the food had some spice and wasn't the normal bland versions on most buffets. The Chana masala and the other chick pea dish were definitely my favorites on the buffet. My friend went back for three helpings of the green bean dish. The smell of the garlic naan was amazing and pretty tasty. I wish they had mango chutney and samosas on the buffet but there was a great selection none the less. I also ordered lamb vindaloo to go for my boyfriend and he really liked it. I'll definitely be back with him to try more. read more

The best thing about this place is there is plenty to take home and enjoy again. Rare is the day I'd give a five star rating, but it's that's good. I'm not a connoisseur of Indian, but this is just sooooo good. All the things I've had are excellent. The naan I could eat all day. The only suggestion I have is from what I have learned. Don't try to be a tough guy/gal and order too spicy. I love spice, but they aren't fooling around there. Trust me on this. Update 9/1/2019 Highly highly recommend the buffet. Sadly, Chef Raj Agarwal left last year (2021) and sold the place. It's not the same, as you would expect. As someone else mentioned, regular plates and silverware have been replaced by plastic. Raj was always friendly and more than happy to explain everything. The new owners seem more reserved. More importantly, the food simply isn't as good. The big thing to me was that each dish had a different taste: each sauce was different (And Raj confirmed that when I asked). Now all the dishes taste pretty much the same. While I wasn't impressed with their goat rhoganjosh (most places struggle to cook it right), we enjoyed the tandoori, veggie samosas, and a variety of curries and other dishes (some chicken, some vegetarian). Under new ownership.... It is now better to cook the food in your own kitchen by opening a jar of Indian-style sauce and making rice or naan. It seems like that's all these new owners of Mango grill did. In fact, I've had better store-bought jarred sauce than what was on my tikka masala at this restaurant. No sense spending $$ at this restaurant, unless the new ownership gets its act together and significantly improves their food. Which they may have by now - I was there a few months ago after the ownership change and maybe they were still learning. Overview: Absolutely awesome Indian place offering many options not usually seen at other Indian restaurants. Highly recommend! Food: This place was truly awesome. The day we went, there was a line out the door for the Sunday buffet and I certainly know why. The buffet seemed small but actually has lots of options. There were samosas that were to die for, flaky pastry, lots of filling, and beautifully seasoned. Pakoras that were lovely little crispy bite sized treats. They offer basmatic and tomato rice. The curries were truly awesome as well. And, very rare on a buffet, were actually spicy! Not burn your mouth off or anything, but they definitely had a nice kick. When you sit, they ask you if you want regular or garlic naan and then bring it to your table fresh. Great touch! Mango Grill also puts out curries that go beyond just butter chicken. They had an egg curry and a mango curry that I'd never seen or tasted before. The egg curry was pretty great, definitely a must try. The mango curry had paneer and while it wasn't bad, I'm not personally a fan of sweet curries. My favorite was the saag curry, which was insanely flavorful, thick, and delicious! Quick shoutout to the salad of all things, which has a fantastic dressing that I loved! For dessert, there's gulab jamun--my absolute favorite! Recommend: I would definitely recommend going for the lunch buffet. You get to try so many things, it's wonderful!!! I think I tried every single curry offered, haha! I never would have thought I'd have some of the best Indian food in my life in Hagerstown, MD. But Mango Grill smothered my misplaced expectations and instead left me surprisingly delighted. Do yourself a favor and order the Mulligatawny Soup. It's the best. Feet down. Hands up. It's damn good soup. Admittedly, I only ordered it because the the Seinfeld Soup Nazi reference. But after tasting the mulligatawny at Mango Grill, I feel as if my 20 some-odd years of watching Seinfeld brought me to this exact moment, if nothing else, so that I may taste the heavenly flavors and textures of Raj's Mulligatawny Soup. Towards the end of the meal, acute separation anxiety instantiated. So I ordered some more soup to go. Cure found. I couldn't stand the thought of not having it again until my next visit to H-town (which now has just ONE more thing going for it). It takes a bit of time for the food to come out, but that's only because every dish is cooked to order from scratch. But good things surely do come to those who wait. It's totally worth it. Just be sure to bring someone you like. It's an experience definitely worth sharing with someone you care about. My girl ordered Chicken Tikka Masala which was also amazing. My son loves going to Mango Grill. I decided to try and started with the Lamb Biryanis. I got medium. If you do not have a tolerance for hot and spicy, don't get medium. It was good but it was hot. To me at least. I've since only gotten mild and that is all I can handle. It's just spicy enough. The Biryanis is very aromatic and tastes great. See pic. I do wish it had a little more meat but it's not that serious. I'm fat enough. Anyway, I've not had great experience with Northern Indian food, but this tops all the ones I have had. We are super happy that we found this place! The menu has a large varity and food you can choose from. I drank my Marsala tea:-) The food was amazing! I had the Chicken Korma:-) delicious. Hubby his Lamb Vindaloo! He loved it even though he would like to have it even more hot. He has the dumplings, forgot the name as an appetizer . It was good anf the sauces were authentic. Then comes the Naan. After being disappointed from 2 restaurants in Colorado, we were super happy to finally get really good tasting Paneer Naan with real cheese, not cheddar cheese! She basically didn't understand english at all, but the weird thing is she wasn't from south Asia. Why would you hire someone to wait tables that can't communicate with the patrons? I ended up having to go to the front to ask the other girl who was working there for basic things like drinks. Even then the waitress tried to get in the middle of asking for our drinks and then took over the conversation, and then....brought us entirely the wrong drinks. We have been eating here for years. Their chicken tikka masala is just fantastic, as is the channa masala. Definitely try the Chicken 65 or the Aloo 65. Oh and the Shrimp Pakora, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Pick your heat level, Raj will be happy to turn it up for you, you can get mild or take your face off hot. There have only been a few dishes that I didn't like and I've had nearly everything on the menu. More of a personal preference. This place is VERY Gluten Free friendly, and there are several vegan and vegetarian dishes on the men. Not like 2 or 3 - a lot. It's great if you have food issues. The food was very flavorful and VERY SPICY! I usually order Indian food the spiciest way I can get it, but even for being no stranger to heavy heat my dish was very hot!! My girlfriend has a vegan diet and their menu was very accommodating to that. Excellent service. I even over heard the gentleman who was presumably manager or owner, take an order over the phone 15-20 minutes after their kitchen closed because the patrons on the other end really wanted to try Mango Grill! Hooray! We've found a "go-to" Indian place near our new home! Indian is my favorite food so it was something I was worried about moving from the DC metro area to the WV panhandle. This place is terrific! As always for us, we did a large to-go order for the family. Here's what we got: Cucumber avocado salad, Lamb pasanda, Saag paneer, Eggplant bartha, Chicken 65, Chicken korma, naan & raita Cucumber avocado salad: A surprise favorite. It's not something I've seen on the menu at an Indian restaurant before. We decided to try it on a whim since we like avocados. So glad we did! We will definitely be ordering this each time we order food from Mango Grill. My husband was dubious at first, but immediately went back for seconds after trying it. Lamb pasanda: another dish that you don't see on many Indian menus and another surprise it. The sauce looks much like a korma, but the taste has a hint of the pistachio base. It was delicious. The lamb chunks were decent sized and not too tough. The only slight complaint is that, like most Indian restaurants, the actual amount of meat you get could be larger. Saag paneer: A classic Indian dish and one of our all-time favorites. We were pleased to find that it is done pretty well here. The greens were creamy and not too bitter, not too salty. The paneer chunks were good size, if just a tad too chewy. Eggplant bartha: another Indian staple and favorite dish. Their version was more yellow than we are typically familiar with but very delicious. Nothing to critique on this dish at all. We would definitely order it again. Chicken 65: This was my least favorite dish out of the lot. This is a dish that you may or may not see on your local Indian restaurant menu. It has been one of our favorites for the last 12 years but is often hard to find. As such we've learned to make it at home pretty frequently and very well. This had made us rather critical when we go to restaurants. I found the version at Mango Grill not very authentic in taste. Far too vinegary, the red didn't look like it typically does at other restaurants, and I didn't see much presence of the curry leaves. We wouldn't order this dish again. Though it wasn't bad, it wasn't true chicken 65. Chicken korma: Very tasty cream sauce and tender chicken pieces. I was surprised that the lamb dish actually had more chunks of actual meat than did the chicken korma. Far too few meet pieces for the serving size provided in the chicken korma. Made it somewhat difficult to split between four people. Each person got about two-three chunks of chicken and then lots of sauce. Naan was nice, as was the raita. Not too watery. All in all we were delighted to find this restaurant and will definitely be making regular orders from here. We are looking forward to trying more the dishes. read more

Was a huge fan of Raj's previous restaurant, Taj India, which was located in downtown Hagerstown. Was in disbelief when they had closed, as their food was the freshest and tastiest Indian cuisine that I had ever had. I was ecstatic to hear that Raj had relocated and the food quality is out of this world! I recommend the Sunday lunch buffet. Raj always provides fresh garlic or plain naan, sauces, and vegetarian/vegan choices. Five stars for the food and service. We feel so lucky that the Mango Grill opened here on the east side of Hagerstown. The food is just incredible, the best Indian food in our area. The menu contains page after page of wonderful unique choices. Plus the buffet has many wonderful delicious veggie, chicken, and goat dishes. The onion fritters were just incredible crispy, with fresh onion complimented by the spicy dipping sauces. But the Lazeez Shrimp Saag was the best shrimp dish I have had in a long time, the jumbo shrimps were cooked to perfection and the spinach complimented each bite. The cooked to order Naan bread was thin puffy crispy and served warm, it was amazing, we ate it all! The Mango Grill is a great addition to the area and I urge everyone to try this great restaurant as soon as possible, they just opened and they are already our favorite for Indian food. read more
