Dana and Angelica did my hair and makeup for my wedding April 2. I asked them for one thing--make me look like a rockstar. They totally delivered! They made me look amazing and I couldnt' believe the comments I was getting on my bridal "look". It was more than just hair and makeup, it was a total package and absolutely fit with what I wanted to look like. Huge bonus was that Dana provided me with two hair pins--one white feather flower for the wedding ceremony and a huge purple feather number that matched my purple hair for the evening. HUGE hits! The total look really make me stand out. Angelica gave me a Mac lipstick and gloss to keep and while that's a little thing it really meant a lot to have those things with me all day to reapply. And my hair did not move all day, I never had to respray or touch it up at all. My foundation, blush and eye makeup also lasted well over 12 hours. Dana is an awesome stylist. She really listens to what you want and helps make it happen. She has very flexible hours and will accommodate your schedule. I just got extensions for the first time, and I would recommend Dana to anyone and everyone! She not only is completely thorough and styles them to your needs and specifications, but she explains the process and prices so you know exactly what you are getting into. I shopped around and believe me, no one beats her prices. As far as the atmosphere and experience, it feels like you are going over to a girlfriend's house who really knows how to make you look good. Dana is so friendly you won't notice how long it takes to put in extensions, but she is extremely professional and makes you look like you spent a million bucks when that's not even near the case. I had a color and cut at Dana's Mane Space about a month ago and I'm still loving it. Some posts can give you information when things are new and nice, but nothing is worse than looking mediocre after you try on your own to reproduce the overall effect at a later date. You have to wash your hair again at some point, right!! So...paying close attention to advise and techniques from Anastasia (colorist) and Crystal (stylist), I up graded my styling tools and products from Ulta (paid less than I thought I would) and voila! It all went smoothly and looked 90% the same. The extra 10% goes to the ladies for their expertise. Let's face it I didn't go to beauty school but they empowered me to look and feel pretty darn good! I will be back for my touch up and trim. That extra 10% is so worth it! You're the best ladies! read more

First off, Dana is just a great gal! Her salon is inviting and very professional. Last Friday I had a semi-formal event that I had to go to, and due to the rain, I was in a pickle with what to do with my hair. So, I found Dana's Beauty Box on yelp, and gave her a call. Even though it was last minute, she was able to let me come in for an updo, right at 11:30am!!! She was very professional, very easy-going and did a fantastic job! I can't wait to go back for a cut and color! She is located right in the loop, which made it super easy to get to considering I work right in the loop as well. I have done 3 colors at Dana's since moving to Chicago, and I have been very satisfied with how they've turned out. My latest color has lasted a long time, even after using very harsh shampoo's. The great thing about Dana, is that she really listen's to what her customers want. She doesn't insist on doing anything that would stray away from that idea that you had about your hair color or cut from when you walked into the salon. I find that high-end or chain stylist do this a lot - none of this "Oh this is very hot now", "this is huge in Europe" bull - that's not what I want, I want something that I know looks good on me. On top of the fact that she is very friendly and laid back, she does amazing work. I have been getting traditional "sew in" extensions for years. she introduced me to a new way, and it looks so much more natural. i am extremely happy with her work. i also really appreciate her approach to taking on clients of all races. i happen to be bi-racial (half black/half white). throughout the years, my personal experience has been that most white hairdressers have been hesitant to take on clients with 'black' hair. she is very open minded in this respect and is willing to take on any new experience or task. Dana is awesome! When I first started going to Dana three years ago, I had been trying to grow my hair out for several years with no luck. I finally have long hair now. She actually listens to me (i.e., when I tell her I don't want layers, she doesn't cut layers . . . everyone I went to prior to Dana thinks I need to have horrible layers!). I started having my hair colored by Dana about a year ago and it looks great. The color lasts long and the roots don't look bad even after several months. I had Dana do my hair for a friend's wedding and was immediately pleased at her upbeat, fun attitude. She made us all feel relaxed and most importantly, my style was amazing. When I went to this location for the first time, I really felt comfortable in the salon and she spent a lot of time on it (not as in too much, just comparing to some hair stylists that spend no time). Followed the only colorist I trust, Anastasia to Mane Space after not getting my hair cut or colored in quite sometime. The location itself is convenient & offers a great view of millennium park. Thoughtful touches, like a relaxing glass of wine, made the bleaching process from brunette to pastel unicorn enjoyable. Dana's Beauty Box is in a great location downtown.. I have been going to her for four years. Dana herself is like pop rocks-always so exciting and fun. On my wedding day, Dana came to me at the venue and did hair for the bridal party. She is very good at making you look good. She's never had a bad suggestion or given me a bad cut. Welcoming, exquisite decor, friendly atmosphere and professionalism was my first impression up entering the salon/barber establishment, and I was pleased to find out that this is exactly how the salon operates. I went to see Kyra for highlights - the color is so bright and doesn't blend AT ALL with the color underneath. It's mismatched stripes and chunks of color. In places the color doesn't even reach the roots. She moved so quickly and the end result is incredibly sloppy. I do not recommend this salon/colorist at all. read more
