Stopped by for lunch again on a recent trip home mid afternoon on a Saturday. The dining room was about a 1/3 full and most of the wait staff (4) seemed overly absent for all the tables. All of the customers looked annoyed and everything took longer than necessary. Additionally, their signature shrimp salad has changed, and not for the better. I will be going elsewhere for lunch in the future after multiple disappointments at this outpost. read more

My friend and I had lunch today at this Mandina's on the north shore. I had the combo platter with catfish and shrimp. My friend has a N.Y. Strip steak. My friend Jacques said it was the best strip he had ever had. Moist and tender, cooked perfectly. My platter was equally good. The shrimp battered perfectly and the catfish was so tender didn't need a knife to cut it. Our waitress was very attentive and efficient. Very friendly. Definitely want to go back again. The first time I visited this establishment was with my family for a holiday and I'm glad to say I was very impressed. First of all the staff was very friendly and although the restuant was pretty packed, everything arrived in a timely fashion. Then the tasting of the food began and it was fantastic. I was able to try the fried catfish along with pasta, and it was some of the best I've had in a while. I highly reccomend this estabishment if you're looking for a fantastic meal. read more

Ate lunch there today, got the lasagna. It was bland and room temperature in the middle. The cheese had a texture of a processed type. I had to ask for bread and the flatware was cafeteria grade. My only fork was small and bent. With there prices, one would expect at least Wal-Mart grade. I take a Prilosec every other day and have not had heart burn in three years, until today. I was warned about the sauce doing that. Don't think I'll go back. Out of all the Italian restaurants on the North Shore, this has the worst lasagna. I do not eat at Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill or other chain eateries.This is only one person's opinion. Thank you. read more

Came for dinner. Had the eggplant sticks which were excellent. Had the meatballs which were not good at all. Used to come here a lot but have the impression it has gone down. My friends eggplant entree was not very good either. read more

My husband and I randomly stopped into Mandina's after our first choice for an Italian spot was closed for the evening and we were very pleased with the whole experience. As we got seated we were served bread and ordered our drinks which came out quickly. We started with an order of the calamari which was delicious. Lightly battered and served with their signature red sauce (and the servers will bring more once you run out of that yummy goodness). For our entrees, my husband ordered the lasagna and I got the chicken parmesan. Each come with a salad so my husband got the Caesar which was really great and I got a house salad which came with an Italian dressing that was slightly too oily for my taste, but it wasn't awful. Soon after finishing the salads, our entrees came out and talk about LARGE portions! The chicken breast for my dish nearly covered the entire plate! To be honest, by this point we were already full from bread, squid and salads, so we only took a few bites of our food before it went into go-boxes. That said, both were delicious. The lasagna was super cheesy which we love and my chicken parm was perfectly cooked; not over fried and dry like many other places I've been to. Additionally, our server was super sweet and rounded out a good experience at Mandina's. We will certainly be returning. read more

Mandina's food is consistently good. Reminds of the meals I had in neighborhood restaurants while growing up in New Orleans. But it's pricey for what it is. Tonight, the service was quite slow and harried. Things were forgotten. The server was nice, but clearly they were understaffed for a Saturday night. When our app was forgotten, we said we still wanted to try it, so it came out well after entrees. It was tasty, but I should have saved the $11. We had two adult meals, an appetizer and a kid's menu item - no alcohol. With tip, it was $74. I think that's the real reason we don't go more often..... Otherwise I could eat trout almandine daily. All that said, I think the service was just having an off night. If it weren't so pricey, we would be regulars. read more

I have never in my life not tipped a server/bartender. I sat with my boyfriend on Lundi Gras for a poboy and a drink out and was neglected in a room full of maybe 2 other tables. I would have tipped had I thought she was new and confused. However, it was clear she knew the other customers. Perhaps I just didn't seem like the tip-able type? We dined at Mandina's last night. Something strange happened. The server took our orders, I ordered trout almondine. The food arrived & she put soft shelled crab almondine in front of me. I said I ordered trout. She raised her voice and said "you ordered crab - I asked you twice." My hubby said "no she did not, I heard her order trout". She then said "it must have been your accent" & stormed off with the plate of food. I have never been treated this badly, ever. The food was really good, but I will never eat at Mandina's again. They need to properly train their wait staff not to challenge a customer. read more

Originally from the Philadelphia area I am very picky with Italian food . I grew up in an Italian American family . Mandina's is the best Italian food in New Orleans area . Service is always great . It's nice to sit at the bar and they always remember your drink and you name . My favorite place ! read more

This place has been here for years, so my wife and I decided to go. I ordered trout almandine and she had the grilled shrimp. Both meals were below par. Trout almodine had brown gravy that was made from a mccormick gravy pack and fish had a strong fish smell. Wife's dish was over seasoned and served with can green beans. Please bring back Wall Street! read more

Mandina's is always a delight. Note that the menus for the online New Orleans and Mandeville locations may be different, according to our waitress in Mandeville yesterday. Also be careful of the driving directions on Yelp. On Monday, the Yelp directions brought us into the middle of a subdivision. Apparently others have had the same experience. The Mandeville location is in the corner of a shopping center on the south side of Highway 22. read more

Very average. I hesitate to give any more than two stars because the french fries were so bad and they should at least be able to have good french fries. The gumbo was boring and served way too hot. The garlic bread that comes with the gumbo was the best thing I had. My date's calimari was decent but not great. The biggest disappointment was the average hamburger I was served. Like french fries, this should not be something that is difficult to do well. I guess this is all to be expected from a strip mall restaurant. I'll add that it was kind of gloomy inside too. What a gem! Tucked away in the back of a strip center, but I can't get enough of this place. High energy, friendly staff, good service and outstanding food! It isn't just Italian...don't miss the melt in your mouth beef stew on Tuesdays as the lunch special. I had the shrimp remoulade today and the remoulade dressing is perfection. The smoked sausage and red beans are better than my mom used to make. They even have a great wine selection at moderate prices. We had a bottle of Silver Oak, a filet and a ribeye for about half of what the big boys charge. Highly recommend for lunch and dinner! read more

Mandina's has a very large menu with many options. They carry typical, Crole favorites along with seafood. I was impressed with their ability to fry seafood perfectly. I know you might think that frying is easy...not for many restaurants. The oysters were plump and juicy. The catfish was nicely breaded with cornmeal and very moist. Two of us split the seafood platter with leftovers. Nice place for the family, too. read more

Tried Mandina's for the first time. Food was great, way better than many other places we've been to in Mandeville. Service was friendly and fast. I would definitely recommend. The place is great is almost every area - service (shout out to Jeremy!!), atmosphere, food was delicious. My complaint was the ration of chicken to pasta in my chicken piccata. It was all pasta. There was this malnourished little piece of chicken in the middle of 2 lbs of pasta. The roast beef open faced - loaded with roast beef. The red beans...well balanced with the rice and beans. But not the chicken piccata. It was well- cooked - don't get me wrong, but if I'd wanted pasta I would have ordered pasta. read more

Went here with my boyfriend around 7 on a Friday night. We sat in the bar area, as there was a short wait for the main dining room. Service was good. The bartender/waiter brought garlic bread to our table right away and answered a few questions we had about their specials of the day and some items on the menu. (Btw, the story of Mandina's is on their menu...great story!) We split a salad (it's big enough to split and they were happy to allow it) and the meatballs with spaghetti. The service was excellent. Our drinks never became empty. We started out with the Turtle Soup which was very good. My companion had the Shrimp Remoulade Salad, which she enjoyed. She was happy with the generous amount of shrimp and said the remoulade was better than most places. I had the lasagna which was a large portion. The meat was well seasoned and the sauce had a fresh flavor to it. We ordered the bread pudding for dessert to share. It was very large. It was delicious, but we were only able to eat half of it as we had become unable to eat anymore. There are so many options on the menu. By far the one of the best places to eat. I grew up in New Orleans and worked as a young girl at Mandina's as a bus girl briefly and was thrilled to have Mandina's come to the Northshore. The people there are great, but Tyler the waiter is one of the best you will ever meet. When I tell you he will go above and beyond for you, he will do what it takes to make your experience one not to forget. He served my family of 28 people with kids and the condition of the restaurant was a bit hot, he brought out fans made sure we had air blowing on us and continued through out our time there to make sure we were comfortable. It's people like Tyler that bring more than just a service to your table. An old favorite restaurant + a genuine soul = Happy Customers. Love this place! read more

Meh... just another New Orleans style eatery. Gumbo, Poboys, etc... Food is good environment is relaxed if a bit loud. Nothing bad, nothing special though you can find as good if not better for cheaper if you know where to look. read more

Worse muffuletta I have ever had. They really need to review what is on a muffuletta. Tomatoes and Mayo is not on it and there is more than Ham and hard salami. You can add olive salad to anything but it does not make it a muffuletta. read more

This was a basic seafood restaurant that is very good but not overwhelmingly great but very good and I would recommend it! It was set up in a great setting and felt like a seafood Restuarant with nice atmosphere. The service was great and we were able to try a couple of items first. I have been here twice and both times the food was excellent! The staff were extremely attentive. I didn't have to ask for anything once. Multiple people checked on us throughout our visit and it really felt like a family atmosphere where the staff truly cared about their customers. We will definitely come back again! read more

My wife and I have eaten at Mandina's in Mnadeville numerous times. It has always been great, the food and service both. We usally get the fried Catfish Platter and a Order of Fried Onion Rings, but have gotten several different entres, which always been good. read more

WORST SERVICE EVER. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar to enjoy a nice evening of great food and drinks. The food was outstanding, as usual, but our bartender was awful. I don't know her name because she didn't introduce herself or try to chat up a friendly conversation. We sat at an EMPTY bar and were there for 10 minutes before our order was taken. When the food finally did arrive, we were completely ignored again. She didn't even come back to ask how the food was or if we were enjoying our experience. It was a full 20 minutes of empty beverages before she returned again, at which point we were asked if we were ready for our check, while food still on our plates! Then we waited another 10 minutes or so to check out. We ended up having to get a waiter to help with that because once again the bartender was too busy doing nothing and playing on her phone to grant service to her patrons. Who knew their burgers were awesome? We go here every once in a while and I usually get seafood which is very good. Last Tuesday, I ordered the Blue Cheese burger with out great expectations and was shocked at how juicy and flavorful the burger was. It is much better than the burger joint down the street.
