Only 12 shrimp the size of popcorn shrimp on the Fried Shrimp Platter.

I regularly eat here, but tonight I have to complain. I usually order a soft drink, but tonight I ordered a glass of water. It tasted AWFUL. Mandina's has had this problem with their drinking water for YEARS, and they don't do anything to correct it. I know several other people who have had this same complaint over the years -- the water tastes like it came from a sewer. There is something REALLY WRONG here, as even water from a faucet doesn't taste like this. I cannot believe that the owner is not aware of it (because multiple people have complained about it), and I further can't believe that they continue to serve nasty tasting water to their customers. How about installing a filter?? Additionally, I ordered a Fried Shrimp Platter, which is about $21. It comes with only fries -- no salad. I'm not talking about a kid's meal. I'm talking about a shrimp platter. This platter came with 12 popcorn shrimp. Seriously?? I have never been to a reputable restaurant where the shrimp platter didn't come with a dozen good-sized butterflied shrimp with tails on. These of course were too small to even butterfly. If they were going to serve shrimp this size, they should have put 36 of them on the platter. Check out the photo (which actually makes them look larger than they were). They should be ashamed to serve something like this.

I didn't have the greatest experience here for my first time. I came here on a Sunday morning…read moreduring Labor Day weekend. We gave ourselves an hour and a half, enough time to eat and get to our next planned and scheduled event that day. So, we weren't in a rush. We get in the quickly moving line to order our food at the counter. I order a salmon bagel and the hubs ordered a meatball ciabatta. We sit down and I noticed it is a very busy place. It is a very large place and I noticed how clean everything was and how efficient all the workers were at getting the food out. One after the other, food was coming out like an assembly line and the food looked good, too. But the assembly line apparently stopped, no orders were coming out, and we waited about 20 or 25 minutes. At least we had our drinks because it is a counter service type establishment. We noticed stacks and stacks of 'to go' orders were being placed in the counter area. After nearly 35 or 40 minutes we get our food. Some guy had ordered a 'football teams' worth amount of food. So, although it was not the restaurant's fault, it was frustrating the timing that our order was f course put in right after the guy that ordered 20 dishes. I get my bagel to try to eat quickly, since now we are in a little bit of a rush. And the bagel couldn't have been more complicated to eat. I just wanted a complete lox bagel but it was a deconstructed bagel where I had to put the thing together. I would have enjoyed the meal a little better had my bagel been properly served, like for example, the way Flour Moon serves their bagels to customers. I don't know if we will be back because I rarely visit the Northshore, this was a special occasion. I guess if I do come back, I would like to try one or two of the desserts from the case. Those looked really good.

We started with the chicken wings with honey barbecue sauce. The wings were cooked perfectly and had a good flavor. Next were the bacon wrapped shrimp and these were one of my favorite items of the night. The hot honey sauce was so good and the presentation made them even better. The cheese pull and sauce dripping down really sealed the deal for me. Easily a 10/10. The brussels sprouts completely surprised me because they were SO good. They were topped with pecans, cranberries, pepper jelly, and parmesan cheese, and all of the toppings worked so well together to elevate the flavor of the brussels sprouts. Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I've been back just for those alone. 10/10. I also tried the Bayou Mac & Cheese which was creamy, flavorful, and cooked well. My only complaint is that it was topped with tomatoes, which wasn't listed on the menu, so I would've asked for it without them, but no big deal. We also had the Cajun Pasta which was good as well. Everything came out hot & Overall, the service was excellent, everything we had was really enjoyable, and the experience matched the aesthetic of the restaurant. I'd definitely return.

Lumora is…read morerelatively new and is by the same folks responsible for The District in Ponchatoula, which is one of our favs. Located on Highway 190, Lumora has a stylish, contemporary persona that is decidedly upscale, but still possesses a comfortable, laid-back vibe that is quite appealing. Service was friendly and efficient and Taylor took excellent care of us. General Manager Josie dropped by our table to share info on Lumora and her visit was appreciated. There is a full bar and a wide selection of specialty cocktails. Today I had a Blood Orange Mezcal Margarita and my wife had an Ex-Presso Martini. Both were great! I highly recommend the Mezcal spice served up on the Margarita's rim in place of the standard salt. We then enjoyed the Zydeco Eggroll appetizer, which the pepper jelly garnish made truly memorable. I then followed with the Buffalo Chicken Pinsa and my wife had the Hot Honey Pepperoni Pinsa. Both were excellent; hot, pleasantly spicy, and generously portioned. We took home a lot of food. Although we had no room for dessert, several on the menu looked quite sumptuous. In short, Lumora Kitchen and Bar is highly recommended! It's a great spot for lunch, happy hour drinks, or a special date night. We will return.

The restaurant is decorated very nice, some modern touches but gives warehouse vibes with a cute grass wall for photos. The menu has a variety of pizzas, calzones, sandwiches, pastas and wines. I didn't realize what was getting myself into when I ordered the loaded fries as an appetizer the food does take time but it is extremely worth it! The fries came out fresh and hot with a bunch of bacon jalapeños and cheese. The owner was so kind he sent us mozzarella sticks and marinara on the house. For our entrees we ordered a large pepperoni pizza, cheese pizza, veggie pizza and chicken Alfredo pasta. Each pizza was so delicious, the sauce was clearly made fresh, the dough was fluffy but crispy it was a great combination. The chicken Alfredo pasta sauce was made fresh along with the pasta sauce. Nothing tasted as if it came from a jar everything was made fresh to order. We all left so full and happy after dinner. Our servers Aubrey and Haley were amazing and gave great recommendations and honest opinions about the menu. I'm excited to try new things on my next trip.

Okay, this is my fifth visit here in five months so it's safe to say I'm either a glutton for…read morepunishment or that this place is great. Fortunately, it's the later, by a wide margin. Why you ask? Simple, it's great. My reasons: 1) Every time we've been here the service has been great. Not good, great. We've taken the time to meet/talk to the serving staff and they all have been friendly, attentive, and really good at their jobs. We have also met the owners and they too are lovely people. 2) The setting, given that's it's in a small strip mall is great. They have a large patio, plenty of umbrellas as booths, and multiple water features including a water wall. Inside the restaurant is equally beautiful. This is not Chi-Chis or some place trying to faux up the setting. 3) The food is great. If you are looking for typical Americanized Mexican, Spanish, South American food, this is not your place. If you are instead looking for great food that is more interesting, this is the place. For example, tonight we had a chicharron that looked liked two of biggest fried slices of hog heaven you could hope for. It was amazing! We also had the chimichurri sauce which was slightly different from what we have had in the past but it too was awesome! We even asked for some to go to which they said of course. 3) The portion size of most of what we've had over the five visits have almost always fit the price while things such as the steak fajitas were on the generous side for 2026. Bonus, big bonus- They are very dog friendly so your four legged and well behaved dogs are more than welcome in their spacious outdoor patio. And since the tables (not the booths) are not tightly together it's a good place even for the truly big dogs! That about covers it. So bring your fur baby, have a drink (they have some nice concoctions ) and enjoy a restaurant that recreates so many things from one of the owner's youth. And if you can sit outside, you will enjoy it even more! As always, apologies for my usually long and hopefully epic review. Cheers and happy dining all!

We have our favorites on both sides of the lake, but I recently read some great reviews somewhere online about Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen with locations in both Mandeville and Covington. After speaking with our friends we decided to dine at the Covington location of Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen. Inside the entrance, the restaurant posts their policy that you will not be seated at a table until all parties have arrived, which is understandable considering the huge amount of business they have. My wife and I arrived before our friends who were running a little late. The Hostess, Jill, asked me how many in our party and I told her four, but the other couple was running late and would be arriving in about 20 minutes. We took a seat in the empty waiting area inside the entrance. The restaurant appeared to have only one or two empty tables available inside when I arrived on a beautiful day. Five to ten minutes later the waiting area was full (approx. ten people). The restaurant was extremely noisy with all their customers enjoying their meals and conversing with friends/family. I noticed that there were approximately ten tables located in front of the restaurant in a beautiful covered patio, so I asked Jill if we could have a table outside once our friends arrived in about five more minutes because one of them was somewhat physically handicapped. There was only one empty table in the patio at the time. Jill explained that since she had a reservation in the patio for a party of eight that would be arriving soon, so she had been holding it for another available outside table to put together to accommodate this party. However, she said she would gladly give us the table. By this time, the waiting room was full of people and overflowing outside the entrance. I had given my seat to a lady and stepped outside to wait for my friends, who I noticed had arrived and parking their car. I told Jill and she seated us at the table in the patio. The four of us ordered different things on the menu, which were fantastic. Although the restaurant was packed, the waitress AND Jill visited our table several times to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchens' ambiance, service, menu items (along with portion sizes) and prices were absolutely astounding. We were all very impressed and grateful for a beautiful dining experience. Special thanks to Jill who was abundantly pleasant to deal with. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen certainly placed Jill in the right position.

Their orange juice offers two choices, regular and fresh squeezed. Service was excellent! I received prompt, courteous and friendly attention throughout my stay from all of the staff.
