I used to eat here a lot when I was a kid and my parents who are really old school wanted to come here for Christmas for old time sakes. I'm not a huge fan of buffets at all, but I decided to go with them since they're my family. The staff were nice, but everything looked really outdated. Some of the food was decent at best, but a majority of it was too greasy and salty altogether. Since we ate on Christmas Day, it was $27.99 per person for dinner which is usually higher than the average dinner price ($22.99). Cleanliness could've been a bit better too. I'm gonna give them a benefit of the doubt because I didn't expect much quality from an old school Chinese buffet like this one but at least update it a little bit more since the main audience who loves these types of buffets are getting older. read more

I love a good buffet but i wasn't impressed because the food wasn't seasoned good. The best thing i ate was the pizzza. The lemonade was watery and there was no traditional waiter that came and check on us on the regular. The place looks up to par but nothing spectacular. The food was mid, the crab rangoon I grabbed was literally room temperature, the pork dumplings were really good but also room temperature. Sushi was good but then again, I dont really eat sushi but the one i did grab was good i think it had crab in it. The bathroom was very clean yet one of the stalls looked like the toilet was clogged. We had not been to Mandarin House in several years. We visited the buffet recently and we were very pleasantly surprised. This is a buffet, so I choose to compare it to the other Chinese buffets in the area. This buffet is far superior to the Chinese buffets in Kenner or Harahan. The selection of food is much wider. There was plenty of seafood to choose from (crabs, clams, several shrimp dishes, crawfish, salmon, etc.). The quality of the food is, for the most part, better than other buffets. The exception is the sushi which was good, but could be improved in selection. The cleanliness of this buffet is head and shoulders above the others. Our server never stopped working tables and cleaning the entire area. If you are looking for a Chinese buffet, we find Mandarin house the best choice in the local area. read more

This place is now just a mediocre Chinese buffet, with some seafood options and sushi. Compared to pre-pandemic, it's gotten more expensive and have less choices. They have steak, but it's not tender; they have raw oysters, but it's limited and usually not stocked for the duration of your whole meal; they have crawfish, but they are not properly cleaned and sometimes very salty. Glad this place survived the pandemic, but definitely no longer our go-to place any more. read more

I was sad when Okinago closed down, but East wasn't a bad choice. Then East closed down. Luckily, I remembered this place wasn't too far from the office and I thought they had decent food. I'm glad I did, the food is on point! The sushi selection is large and fresh, with both rolls and sushi available. There is always a host of steamed or boiled seafood, with soups and various fried or sautéed dishes on the line. My favorite are the onion shrimp and the black pepper steak, along with the seafood delight served in a bow of broth from the won ton soup container. And I always have a small selection of sushi with my meal, as well as whatever else looks good on the bar that day. I haven't tried the boiled and steamed seafood, but it gets good reviews from my meal mates. The service is good, everyone is friendly and attentive, and we've made this a regular Friday lunch outing(might explain why there is always seafood). I come here a lot before covid and recently started coming back. I like it that there are varieties of food options to choose from. They have salad bar, sushi, Chinese food, American food, dessert and fruit. I like coming here in groups because there is something for everyone. Despite all the negative reviews, I decided to try for myself. I have to say, I am glad I did! I am not sure if it's not owners or new management, but my experience was nothing similar to previous reviews. The waitress was very tentative, you couldn't get up before she took your plate away. Probably the weird part about service is the fact that employees use the serving utensils to put your food on the plate. But I get it because of COVID. The sushi was cold and fresh. The rolls were stuffed with ingredients and the sushi was not short on fish. The vegetables and fish from every sushi roll I tried was very fresh and possibly better than some sushi joints I've been to. Don't overlook the sushi because it's a Chinese buffet. The seafood options as well as the dumplings tasted ok. Nothing spectacular but not bad. Maybe a 3.5/5 for them. Probably my only other gripe would be the lack of Chinese food options other than seafood. But who doesn't like seafood down here haha. I'd certainly come back, the price is high a Chinese buffet but I think for the service and food quality it's worth the higher price. When you walk in, you first notice as you look down how filthy and disgusting the carpet looks. As if it was embroidered or embedded onto the floor for the last 20 years. You can feel the musty smell encroach on your clothes like roaches. MANDARIN METAIRIE LLC 3501 SEVERN AVE. SUITE A5 METAIRIE, LA 70002, the registered owner, ignores or doesn't care what anyone thinks of this unclean restaurant. They are more interested in profit making than providing a top quality food and experience, charging or better yet, extorting, $22 for it. The quality of food served or cooked today was abismal at best. It has been for quite sometime. Half of the entire hot food buffet selection was at room temperature or cold. One of the employees was fixing what it looked like a temperature problem under the buffet line. The sautéed boiled shrimp with vegetables was way salty. The green beans were salty and cold. The mandarin chicken was not its usual brown color, and it was salty and too sweet. The peppered beef did not taste like beef. Its textured and flavor was masqueraded with sugar. The white rice was too wet. If we are obligated and/or be pick pocketed out of $22 dollars before we sit down and eat, then we should be receiving well-cooked and prepared food at this location. Inside it looks like they put aside their mess and hide it behind curtains. The sushi bar seemed disorganized. I would hate to walk back into the kitchen and find food on the floor not swept, roaches, flys, the bathroom unclean, and employees coughing or sneezing all around inside the kitchen not wearing a mask or covering their mouths, nor washing their hands properly throughout their shift. To make matters worst, an employee coughed next to my plate of food as I was serving myself. Luckily, I turned my plate to the other side and then saw her cover her face with a mask that was not properly worn. It was hot inside and the AC was on for at least 3 minutes. There were patrons/clients whose children had a wet and heavy cough allowing their child to approach the buffet line, as small as they are, and cough on top of the uncovered food. This restaurant should not allow minors or children serve their own food. There should be a rule that the parents must serve them. At least the food being shielded with top covers from tall people would be protected from infections. Bacteria, and or viruses is being allowed by the owner to linger inside through out the day. Employees should be required to wear gloves and masks and wash their hands. There should be anti-bacterial soap in the bathrooms at all times. No cleaning apparatus should be stored inside the bathrooms. This may sound out of the norm, but this is the lowest this restaurant has ever been observed. Whoever the owner is, he/she doesn't care about the food quality or the quality over altogether. I will not spend another dollar, nor will I visit unless an official report is published indicating that it is safe to enter and eat and have a healthy experience. I do not recommend it to anyone anymore. Eat at your own risk. If I could review this restaurant without having to give it at least one star, I would. It's like the good old days!!! Really mediocre Chinese food and sushi at your fingertips. Yes folks an actual post-covid buffet up and running! It was a blessing from the lunch gods that allowed me to stumble on in and partake in such exotic delicacies as cold boiled shrimp, faux "fried" oysters, pepper steak, and a good variety of sushi. After feasting for an hour, I anxiously waited to see if I ingested any number of possible food born bacteria, and I am happy to say I was diarrhea free. It went here today for lunch since i was in the area. In the past Mandarin house had a pretty decent buffet. Not great but decent. It is now terrible. Mandarin House is similar to the other Chinese buffets in the area. But that is being unfair to the other buffets. All drinks are bottled (including tea). Foam disposable plates, soup bowls, fork and spoon are the rule. The time i had lunch(12:30) most of the food was dried out or barely warm. To say that my $16:00 for lunch was a waste of money is an understatement. I don't many negative reviews, but I recommend you not waste your time going to Mandarin House. We came here to celebrate my mom's birthday this year. They charged $100 for 4 people now, but their crabs aren't as big as before. Be careful after using a nutcracker here. They accidentally threw away the one they lent us with one of our finished plates, but they thought we stole it and chased after us after we went out the door. That literally sums up what you're getting into, and its fairly standard in terms of offerings: salad bar, fruit, classic American chinese items, soup, seafood, some American items like fries and mac n'cheese, and then sushi! I've been going here since I was a kid, and I've always loved it. But you can't hate on the variety for the price at $14.90 for the dinner buffet! The service has always been nice, food is consistently good (sometimes things seem better than others), but I was particularly impressed with this last visit, a Friday night at 7. Everything was SUPER fresh, they had people walking around always making sure to check on the status of the items, and the sushi was by far some of the freshest/best I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant, and even some sushi places in NOLA! Not sure what changed or if they had a new sushi chef, but I was crazy impressed! Plus, I love those twisty wontons coated in honey that they have for dessert! read more

Poor experience here at the mandarin house. Payed $50 for both my girlfriend and I to eat lunch. Normal buffet price here is $13 but because it's the weekend they decide to jack the prices up. Had to eat on styrofoam plates and use plastic forks/spoons. We both weren't very fond of the place, definitely won't be coming back, I'll stick to 4 seasons across the lake in Covington. Saturday night...18// per adult x3 and 1 kid...over $60.00 and we got same lunch foods and ribs and blue crabs as premium food...Most food was COLD. Disposable cutlery n plates...good plan. They only put 10 snow crabs out every 45 minutes and then if your not right there the two people on the side of you take all of them. The food made me and my husband severely ill.
