Kung Pau Chicken Luncheon Special portion
Lindy K.

I've been working my way through The Mandarin's Luncheon Special menu but I may stop now as my recent order was a disappointment. I ordered the Kung Pau Chicken with white rice and wonton soup and my friend had the Shrimp in Lobster Sauce fried rice and the egg roll. She liked all of her order. I gave the 2 stars because of lack of flavor in my ordered dish. Without ordering it again I won't know if my request for a mild spice level on the Kung Pau was miscommunicated to the kitchen or the Kung Pau is always bland. I asked for a spice level that would build with each bite but not be all I tasted. I am left wondering if the usual flavors in Kung Pau are hidden in its hottest spices? There were plenty of vegetables, chicken and peanuts in it but despite seeing a couple red chili peppers there was no heat or flavor to it at all. I could have sent it back and asked them to add some spice or something to it but I didn't want that distraction while visiting with my friend so I barely ate any. The white rice I had ordered (so as not to interfere with the expected Kung Pau flavors) obviously didn't rescue the flavorless dish. At home I added some bottled sauce and finally it was palatable and had some flavor. The wonton soup was the star of my meal with its delicious deeply beefy broth. There were 2 changes I noticed since my other recent visits. We were served some crispy wonton strips and sweet sauce at the table to nibble on. The friendly waiter said they sometimes have them. The other change was the price on the Luncheon Special went up $1 (now $11.50 - $11.95).

To start it's in an old depot but they did a great job with mixing the Chinese restaurant atmosphere in the beautifully preserved depot. Next up are the pleasant and attentive yet not obtrusive servers. But the be all and end all is the food. Authentic, fresh, flavorful and plentiful servings reasonable prices especially the lunch specials of which there is a wide variety. I had Sa char beef and my wife had sweet and sour chicken. Egg drop and hot sour soups also were perfect.

Orange chicken. Delicious!

Did take out again. We got the orange chicken, honey chicken, fried rice & lo mein ILO white rice. Total was $43. A bit high, but everything was good! Service was great. We've also been here a couple time for sit down & always great service! We'll continue to come & recommend.

Staff seemed quite busy without many people there..took a while to be seated. Very nice waitress, but again had to wait for water glasses to be filled. Food came quickly, was delicious overall..wished they had a kids menu because we ended up spending $140 for our family of 6. Not ideal. Two of my kids said they thought they found bones in their chicken, but I could not confirm or deny. I would not be back..maybe for the lunch specials, but not during regular hours.

Very delicious, authentic Chinese cuisine. This is the real thing. The food comes out piping hot, which is how I like it. Thanks so much.

Is nice to have a classic Chinese option in the area. They have a great menu as well as traditional lunch specials. Food was delicious.

I was told the chicken would be white meat and it wasn't. The kung pow chicken didn't have much flavor. Restaurant was nice and clean.

Are any of the soups gluten free?

I would say the egg drop soup since the thickening agent is corn starch. You may want to inquire if any soy sauce (which contains wheat) is used in the recipe.

Last weekend during the PPA tournament, I had three meals at the 20th Hole and it did not…read moredisappoint! Upon arrival, my daughter and I had lunch here... It was a Thursday afternoon. The hostess seated us promptly (with luggage in tow). The restaurant is pretty spacious, so that worked out just fine. We enjoyed our food (a cobb salad for me and a burger for her). Janessa was our server and she was lovely and attentive. We then made a reservation for a larger group for that Saturday evening and Kyle and Mia helped us out... The reservation needed adjustment last minute due to a change in schedule that day and after multiple phone calls, they were able to accommodate that change. Note: it seems there is not a direct phone number to the restauarant so I had to work with someone in the hotel lobby for this. Interestingly enough, we ended up having dinner here on Friday as well with a large group. Huge thanks to Kyle and staff for working with us that evening... We worked out a large group order to-go but sat down for our drinks. Need to know: Due to Utah Liquor laws, adults who are drinking alcoholic beverages must be seated... that was a new fun fact I learned when making the reservation. On Saturday night, the restaurant had a bit of a condensed menu and they were out of salmon, which was a bit disappointing, but after having 3 meals here, we do recommend the wings, nachos, and burgers. The area in the back of the restaurant with games including ping pong is great for the kids and there is also a grassy area out back too. I know that this restaurant is fairly new and working out the kinks... I look forward to returning in the future as I know it will continue to get better.

We had a pretty disappointing experience at the 20th Hole sports bar. Earlier in the week, I…read morestopped in to make a reservation for a group of 8 for my husband's birthday. I specifically mentioned that we were hoping to watch Supercross, and I was assured that wouldn't be a problem. However, when we arrived at our reserved time, we were told they would "look into" changing the channel because they weren't sure they could access Peacock. We decided to stay, ordered drinks and appetizers, and checked in multiple times with our waiter. Each time, we were told they were still working on it. After waiting for over an hour, we were finally told they couldn't put it on after all. The most frustrating part is that we would have completely understood if they had told us upfront. We could have made other plans and gone somewhere that could accommodate our request. Instead, we spent a significant part of the evening waiting and hoping, which took away from what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration. Afterward, I noticed similar feedback from other guests about difficulties getting channels changed, even when it seemed possible. That was disappointing to see and makes it feel like this may be a recurring issue. The service itself was polite, but better communication and follow-through would have made a big difference in our experience.
