Went to the Mandarin with friends Friday evening and we ordered a couple Orange Chickens, a Mongolian Beef and I wanted to try the Lemon Chicken Szechuan Style. After a few tastes of my dish I asked the waiter if the dish I had really was the Lemon Chicken I had ordered and had been anxious to try. It had no lemon flavor and the sauce looked & tasted a lot like Orange Chicken so I was puzzled enough to ask. Also when I compared the menu's description to the vegetables on my plate the red & green peppers were there but missing was the baby corn, celery and any evidence of lemon peels as there should have been. In their place were water chestnuts and I think bamboo shoots or carrots. If the kitchen was out of celery or baby corn or lemons- they should be upfront about it. I have been informed during a previous visit of some ingredient being out of stock while ordering so I know they have communicated that situation before. Vegetables aside, there's no way that sauce had any lemon in it. It was tasty but not what I ordered. read more

I really enjoy my go-to lunch of vegetable soup with tofu (I'm a pescatarian), and the traditional Chinese side salad. I can't help but picture a train station setting and I think whoever owns this place has so much more of an advantage over every restaurant in Cedar City. Their food is great, but the spot is priceless! My best advice is to look at your neighboring DecorWorx company and "go to town" on a full renovation, complete with an inside/ outside train for kiddos to ride on, while parents enjoy a nice meal. read more

Ordered take out after a long day skiing. Food was ready quickly and was very good. Young lady inside was very nice in taking order and delivering food when we got there. We ordered orange chicken, Mongolian beef, pork fried rice and win ton soup. Everything was delicious and was perfect amount for 4 of us. Kids loved the wonton soup. Orange chicken was very good as well as fried rice. Flavorful and fresh. Mongolian beef was very good, but not what I normally see for Mongolian style. But still very good with a touch of heat. To start it's in an old depot but they did a great job with mixing the Chinese restaurant atmosphere in the beautifully preserved depot. Next up are the pleasant and attentive yet not obtrusive servers. But the be all and end all is the food. Authentic, fresh, flavorful and plentiful servings reasonable prices especially the lunch specials of which there is a wide variety. I had Sa char beef and my wife had sweet and sour chicken. Food came quickly, was delicious overall..wished they had a kids menu because we ended up spending $140 for our family of 6. Not ideal. Mandarin Restaurant is a gem for Cedar City, Utah. I just could not believe that Yelp has lead me to this beautiful and authentic Chinese cuisine for a late tofu snack and a cold Sapporo. The service is amazing as food and drink to the table was fast. Our server was super helpful, friendly, and polite. I enjoyed looking at all the Chinese art and dining at this Chinese restaurant. This was the worst Chinese food we've ever had. I ordered twice cooked pork. There was nothing "twice cooked" about it. Instead, there were thin strips of fatty pieces of pork with vegetables in a sweet, oily sauce. After two bites, I couldn't eat any more of it. My husband had Moo Shu Pork, which had the same fatty, thin strips of pork with overcooked vegetables. We shared that dish for a little while, and then decided we'd eat pretzels in our hotel room for the rest of our dinner. Don't waste your money on this. read more

Poo poo platter was just ok. (the free fried crisps were the best.) Singapore noodles: just blah...no taste. Cooked with tiny cocktail shrimp. Never seen that before. $15.95. Egg fu young was covered in an unappetizing batter. Not tasty at all. A dull brown gravy over top. $15.95. Triple delight fried meat...same bad batter. $17.95. 2 sodas, no carbonation. For a small town, Mandarin Restaurant's food is quite good. I was passing through town on my way to Cedar Breaks National Monument at the end of October 2020, and had to stop here for lunch. I'm one of those like the infamous foodie David Chan, who eats at a Chinese restaurant everywhere he travels on business (he has dined at over 7,000 Chinese restaurants worldwide). I chose Mandarin based mainly on the pictures (I like to dine at restaurants offering more authentic style of Chinese food, as opposed to those that are more Americanized Chinese). The restaurant's interior is lovely and very roomy. Though Yelp mentions they offer outdoor, I was told those tables are not serviced, but customers can order their food to-go and eat at those tables. With Covid-19, I avoid indoor dining wherever I can, but it was just too nippy on this day (Tuesday, October 27th). I ordered both the regular Egg Roll and the Shanghai Egg Roll. Egg Roll was the Americanized version that's crispy and filled with mainly vegetables. The Shanghai Egg Roll was more authentic with a good mixture of shrimp and a smattering of vegetables inside. Loved the Shanghai Egg Roll more. For the entree, I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken & Shrimp (Mandarin style, not Szechuan/Sichuan which is spicy) lunch special which is served with steamed rice and a cup of hot and sour soup (or egg drop soup if you prefer). I had the soup, which had a nice spicy bite from the red chile flakes cooked into it. Being uncomfortable eating indoors, I took the Kung Pao Chicken & Shrimp and rice to go. I had that for dinner. Even being reheated in the microwave, it was still quite tasty. When you sit down, they'll bring you a bowl of wonton skin/wrapper crispies and a bowl of sweet and sour sauce. When I ordered the Egg Roll and the Shanghai Egg Roll, I was given 2 more small bowls of the sweet and sour sauce. The servers should inquire if the customer needed more sauce, as having those 3 small bowls on my table, it seemed like a waste of the sauce. read more

They serve wonton chips and dipping sauce when you arrive. We tried many dishes the mongolian beef, chicken and snow peas, teriyaki chicken, noodle soup, broccoli and we thought they were ok. They all tasted very similar as they were heavily coated in a sweet sauce. The dishes were all too sweet. I love teriyaki type sauce but these sauces were too thick and sweet for my preference and the food was drenched in it. If you love sweet sauces you will like it, it was just too overwhelming for me. There were a few things that were advertised that weren't available and we had to remind the waiter several times for items we requested like hot sauce, a drink, soy sauce, napkins. By the time we got hot sauce we were through half our meal which makes it less enjoyable. Although we had to ask a few times the staff was nice and seemed to be trying their vest. They were friendly. We ordered to-go and ate our food on the patio, since we had our dog. The first thing I noticed, was how sweet the staff was. Our waitress (and I believe the manager) were extremely polite and professional. Their service alone is worth going back for. As for the food, I thought it was very good. My family and I ordered potstickers, ham fried rice, orange chicken and walnut shrimp. Everthing (especially the potstickers) had a really good flavor to it, and there wasn't a bite left after we finished. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely be back! We stopped in around 5 tonight and had the place to ourselves. This place is really nice, beautiful ambiance. They served us wonton chips with a sweet and sour sauce that was pretty good. The service was okay- nothing amazing. Our food was also just ok. They have a really large menu with lots to choose from but maybe a smaller menu with better quality would be better? We ordered cashew chicken, beef and broccoli and pad thai. The beef and broccoli was the best of the three although i found the sauce to be pretty similar to the cashew chicken. I know ordering Thai food at a Chinese restaurant is a rookie mistake- that was my kids fault. The sauce was very sweet and it just didn't taste like pad thai. We had a reservation. We got there maybe 5-10 minutes early. We sat down, took 25 minutes for someone to come and take our order. Happy I brought my own water because we were clearly invisible. Ordered a sushi roll. The Cedar Roll looked yummy...dry as the Vegas desert. One of the plates came out dirty. We were never provided water throughout the entire meal. Ordered the Mongolian beef (one of our favorites) and the dish tasted...off. As in spoiled. The steamed potstickers were good...if you can get past the coldness in the middle. The crab rangoons were pretty yummy as was the egg roll. The sweet and sour chicken was OKAY. They had no limes for our Coronas and they didn't have Sapporo's. This place is nothing to write home to. I couldn't even finish the dinner. I was so upset I left and had my bf take care of the "leftovers" (my dogs will love this when I get home). Save your money and go somewhere better.
