Have had better luck previously with Sweet Basil's food but there were a couple of fails in today's Lunch Special Panang Chicken Curry. The egg roll was cold and the usually tender moist chicken wasn't. The Panang sauce was very tasty and exactly the spice level I ordered. The wonton soup also had a good flavor and I enjoyed the full serving. Now if they can fix the dry chicken and tepid egg roll situation my ratings/review will improve again. There was a small piece of bone in the chicken - but that's not unusual but was the first time at this restaurant that had ever occurred. I think this 2 star meal was a one off and I will fearlessly order from Sweet Basil again. The team members I interacted with were courteous and friendly. read more

This is my go-to place for cold weather in Cedar City. (Mid Sept- End of April) Thai hot yum yum soup and veggie noodles soup. I've eaten inside just once and they serve EXCELLENT & crisp water from a copper pitcher... I never drank so many cups of water in my life! They also give you an entire hot pot of tea! Went to dinner there tonight with another couple everybody loved their food. I had the chicken patty which I wish hadn't even ended. It was so good. Another person had the volcano chicken, which I said was delicious. Delicious. The food was impeccable. This is literally one of the best places I have ever ate at, every bite felt like fireworks going off on my tastebuds. My family loves Thai food and we have tried lots of places, but this one was special. We ordered cashew chicken, pad Thai, and pineapple curry. The portions were quite generous, with 3 plates enough for 4 people. The restaurant was big and had a really great vibe with themed furniture and nice music playing in the back. Our waiter, Domina, was super nice and friendly, quickly handing out food and filling waters. The pad thai was the best I have ever had, with lots of sauce, taste and size. The pineapple curry was one of the best I've had, with perfect ratios of different sauces. The cashew chicken was really good, but we noticed it was VERY SPICY. We ordered mild (level 1 spice) for everything but the cashew chicken was another level. We asked for extra rice and water again and again to help with the spice and we just thought it was us. Turns out we got the check and it showed Cashew Chicken level 4 spice (Thai level which is the max) and it was a mistake by the waiter. It was a hilarious experience and I'm really proud that I was able to handle it. Saw this place several weeks ago when we were in town. Decided to stop in for dinner tonight. It's Saturday night early and they aren't real busy. Greeted at the door by Staff and welcomed to sit anywhere. Place is very nice and clean. Attractive furnishings make us feel welcomed and at ease. Water and menus were dropped off by server right after we sat down. Menu is large and varied. Right away I know this place is serious Thai food as they have 4 spice levels available for each dish. We made our selection and I started looking at reviews in Yelp to get a feel for the place. Overall it's rated at almost 4 stars. Several reviews mentioned declining service during Covid. Not seeing this at all tonight. Every table has been attended to timely and efficiently. A recent review complained about serving size was small for price that was charged. This was 5 days before tonight. I was concerned when I read this. Our order came to our table after about 10 minutes from order. OK that's fast!! Plates we're full and looked wonderful. Lots of food,,,, see my pics. I ordered the Volcano Chicken with fried Rice and 3 spice level. It came on a bed of Cabbage, Carrots, Onions and Broccoli. Chicken was deep fried with a light breading. A sweet n Spicy sauce was spread over everything to bring in the Volcano look. The Chicken was 2 full breast cut in half and curled to build the Volcano. It was amazing. The 3 spice level was HOT !!!! But so good. My Wife had the Mango Tilapia. This was a whole fillet of fish served over a similar veggie dish. The fish had a spice covering that gave the dish its flavor. Best of all a whole fresh Mango was peeled and cut into large chucks that were slightly cooked and so yummy. The Fried rice was perfect to add to both dishes and made it easy to enjoy the sauces. This place is amazing! Great service, clean and Covid practices in place. Wonderful food and all done with a timely manner. We will be back! Our new favorite place in Cedar. Can't wait to explore their curries and other specialties. Again there were some issues with some reviews, but I didn't find anything wrong on this night. Being Saturday I would think if they had issues they would standout on the busiest day of the week. Not tonight. If you like Thai come and try this place. If you love Thai then this is a gem! Their prices are fair for the dishes we ordered. You won't be disappointed. read more

Well, I really hate to do this...but I have to negatively update my review. I understand that some places are short staffed due to covid. However, that doesn't excuse them from forgetting an entree and making us wait an additional 20 minutes for it after the rest of our food came out. About 25 minutes after we ordered, our first entree came out followed by our appetizers. About 10 minutes later 3 more of our entrees came out. We thought she went back to get the last entree... Nope out comes the food for another table. We were asked if we needed anything else and I said yes, our 5th entree. 20 minutes later, they brought it out. No apologies for the wait. Food tasted good and that's the only reason for the 3 stars. We asked for boxes... They brought out the tiny boxes and then took our rice away even though we were going to take that home too. We had to ask for more boxes because the tiny ones weren't going to handle all that we had. Side note, not sure why they were wearing gloves when they were handling everyone's drinks, silverware, plates & money with out changing them...oh and cleaning the tables with those same gloves... ‍ Definitely won't be back for dinner... read more

This is our first time visit the sweet basil Thai restaurant, as well cedar city, UT. A family of four we have delicious authentic Thai dinner with good portions ! We all very enjoyed the meal including a picky eater in the family. Special call out ~ Mango curry, it came with fresh mango, yummy. I write a lot of these and it may seem otherwise, but I really hate writing this kind of review. I would rather a place dazzle me instead of being...whatever this was. I started with the Satay, which was ok, but nowhere near the best version of that I've ever had. Same with the Thai Iced Tea. From there, I took on the Spicy Squid, which, despite not listing onions, came in a plate covered with both those (it was literally the most numerous thing on the dish) and some sort of brown gravy. Restaurants should not do this, incidentally. I picked this dish specifically because it did not list onions, not because I wanted a whole fucking plate full of them. For that alone - and yes, you're right, I should have sent it back, but time crunch and all - they were immediately off my return list, but wait. Indeed, it does get worse. I ordered the dish medium spicy and got a pile of dried red chilis (think in a shaker that you would put on pizza) on the plate. I found this stunning, but decided to try to make the best of it. Yes, dumb of me. About halfway through, I thought maybe they sent me the wrong thing, as there were no mushrooms at all, despite that actually being listed on the menu. There were also a fairly low quantity of both bamboo shoots and squid comparatively and the actual taste of that rather wretched sauce/gravy/whatever it was, made this into an instant canvassing-only type of place. I really struggle with Cedar City a lot and places like this do not help. At all. I still don't know what happened here, exactly, but do know that I will never be back again to find out. I do like Thai food...but, this place is over priced and the portions are very small. The food was about average.....the portions need to be increased. There just was not enough food to satisfy me....I had to go get a sandwich after I ate....the service was very slooooowwww also. My other half got food poisoning from the glass noodles pad Thai with beef. After a couple of bites you could smell that the beef was bad and smelled awful. The service was awful. No one at this restaurant wanted to be there and it was evident. The server (female) was very short with us and very rude. Will live in cedar City, and we will never go back to this restaurant. Yellow curry was great. Pho was different from what I'm used to in Southern Cal. It was ok, but not my fave. I'd go here for Thai any time.

Despite a little bout of stomach something-or-other, I was still a little hungry and wanting to try a new eatery. After a quick yelp search, I found Sweet Basil Thai and decided to check it out. The interior is simply decorated: pale yellow walls garnished with Asian-inspired decor overlooking about 15 square tables. We were greeted by the owner/husband and were cheerfully instructed to take the table "by the wall." Hubby ordered the fish curry (spice level 8 out of 10) and I got the chicken soup (spice level 5 out of 10....my stomach was pretty touchy). Nice, bright flavours for both dishes. Spice levels weren't as intense as the numbers may indicate, so for those who want heat, request at least a 9/10, IMO. Only gripe was for the deep-fried snapper in hubby's dish; the curry sauce had coconut milk, which made the dish fairly rich and the deep-fried fish upped the richness again. The menu stated that the fish curry was the only fish dish that wasn't deep-fried. Hmm? Overall, a welcome surprise in small town Utah, a great alternative to the typical chain offerings (Applebees, et al), and a local mom-and-pop joint. It won't hold up to good Thai places in NYC, the Bay area, etc., but nonetheless, a charming and satisfying choice. read more

Tried this place based on the positive reviews. I ordered a simple Thai noodle with vegetables dish (visually I could tell it wasn't at all authentic Thai) That would be perfectly ok, except the dish was also way too salty! If you're trying to manage your salt intake this place is not for you. On a side note the waiter seemed a but grumpy, never smiled or came by to refill my glass, and the place only had one other couple eating there for lunch. Next time I'm in Cedar City, I'll try Panda Express before coming back to this place. read more

When I first moved to Cedar, i was in absolute LOVE with this place. However, since i've been here, they've changed the recipes about 10 times (and i've only been here for 3 years)! It's kind of tough walking in and not knowing what recipe you will be getting today. for example, when i first ordered pad thai, i loved it so much & the spice level was perfect. now, i get these super thin noodles and the pad thai is almost sweet with no spicy-ness to it. Horrible experience. Was overcharged for add-ons that we didn't order, and when we pointed out the error, the manager started screaming at us. She's a psycho maniac.
