Greek salads were fresh and authentic. Grilled calamari was tasty but could have been better plated/ presented possibly on crisp spinach(?) Noticed most plates passing by weren't too well finished. Bread served either wasn't fresh or just very bland. 5 layer carrot cake was very tasty. Baklava though large, was just so-so. Though the room we sat in was only 1/2 full the noise level was disturbing. Needs fabric on walls, cloth drapes, sound baffles. Or carpeted floors. At this price point I did expect more.

The drinks themselves were absolutely fantastic. The other bartender working with us was super chatty and friendly, sharing great recommendations for other drinks to try. When we casually mentioned that we were celebrating our friend's birthday, he kindly offered us complimentary watermelon shots, which we double-checked and confirmed were also gluten-free. I even peeked at the food menu while we were there and noticed that they clearly list gluten-free labels next to the applicable items. Overall, the bartending staff was phenomenal, and the drinks were top-notch.

Soft, not chewy, beautiful butter and sauce. Hard to split but we made the best of it. I had the halibut. Oh how do I live halibut. Value (B) It is a bit pricey but not too bad around $35/person for lunch for 2 and an appetizer. They have a small plates menu which might be the lunch menu. Service (A) Excellent friendly and polite service. Got the food out fairly fast. And waitstaff was super nice and respectful. Even packed up the leftovers- did a great job Food (A-) I got the combination plate and it tasted exactly how it did 20 years ago. This is both a positive and a negative. Taste was excellent - especially the lamb, meatballs and sauce over the rice and dolmas. Great portion size also. Will get stuff. Came with potatoes and veggies. On the negative it tasted very heavy. I was expecting it to be "lighter". Not sure I am describing it correctly. I am going to order it again as it's excellent but I think I am eating a ton of butter and or oil. Maybe I am not but something gave it the heavy feel. Also with bread service - I appreciate they provide it but feels very 90s. Thr bread was okay and the butter was the small little packages of butter. So I really do like this place and am being overly critical so I would strongly recommend going for a safe bet Greek place. My recommendations for them 1. Too many options on the menu - need to skinny it down 2. Higher quality bread and butter 3. An actual simple lunch menu. Would have loved a combination plate lunch portion for $16.99 vs a dinner portion at $25.99

The olive oil is so fragrant, the bread is fresh baked and amazing. I wish I would've tried the stuffed pepper soup, but Avgolemono is my favorite. I just wish they had a generous bowl of Youvetzi that was flavored with lamb shank!!! It's my go to Greek comfort food - My YiaYia's was the best! I will have to return to sample their desserts! I had the special - Youvarelakia - which are the herbed meatballs in lemon sauce. The meat was "very herb-y" to the point of almost overwhelming the meat taste. I know it's not the restaurant's fault but we had this one noisy kid that was way too loud. I know it's a family atmosphere and all, but these young parents do not know how to discipline their kids. I was annoyed while eating my food. I ordered the pork souvlaki and the classic Chicago gyro pita. The pork souvlaki was decent. The French fries were a lot bigger, pita bread was too chewy, and the pork skewer was not as tender. The classic Chicago gyro pita had lamb and beef gyro. This was still pretty good. I do wish the pita bread for those were less chewy.

Amazing that after all these years, and with huge crowds every night, Greek Islands still maintains…read moresuch a high level of food quality and service. We ordered the whole branzino with roast Greek potatoes, and it was every bit as good as the whole Greek-style fish we've been ordering since first coming here decades ago. The same with the horta (dandelion greens) which I recommend dressing with lemon juice, olive oil (there's a bottle on the table) and black pepper. Delicious. And there is no better taramasolata anywhere than here. Absolutely addictive. The kind they serve at other Greek places is just a pale imitation. Our waitress (I didn't catch her name, but she was from Russia) was an absolute delight. So friendly and efficient. I have one complaint. Egg-lemon soup is traditionally a dairy-free dish. But Greek Islands' version apparently contains milk or cream. I'm not 100% sure it does, but I have lactose intolerance and definitely suffered unpleasant aftereffects following dinner. I called the following morning and I was told that it does indeed contain milk or cream, but the guy I spoke to had a heavy accent so I'm still not sure. The point is, the menu should state clearly when a TRADITIONALLY DAIRY-FREE dish contains dairy for the benefit of people with lactose intolerance or -- much more seriously -- a dairy allergy. Not doing so is very, very irresponsible. That quibble aside, let me re-emphasize how impressive it is that this restaurant remains as good as it is after all these years.

If you're looking for traditional Gyros, this is not the place…read more My wife wanted to try this place seeing is that we pass it every time we visit our son. Well today was the day. We both love a good lamb gyros sandwich but lamb wasn't on the list of meat. There was the beef/lamb but that wasn't even close to any lamb taste. It was like a skirt steak on the spit. Wasn't tender like your typical lamb gyros but wasn't real chewy either. I had the open face and my wife had the street wrap. Both were pretty sloppy with all the tzatziki sauce. It really doesn't matter what all the fixens we had put on it, we didn't care for it so much either way. It was a disappointing experience because of the meat blend, which for me wasn't much of a blend at all...all beef. Sorry, won't be back.
