Our party of two visited late at night and we had meat lasagna and chicken parm. Portions were so large we had to get to-go boxes for later. The food was good and service was excellent. Honestly, the salad was better than the entrees and their dressing was so good I wanted the recipe. My family and I went into this restaurant under the impression that we would get a casual Italian dining experience. Right when we sat down, we were greeted by a quiet waitress and who I would assume to be the owner or co owner. He had an accent very hard to understand, and couldn't answer our questions well. He quizzed us on what his name was. The food was okay. Not amazing. He continued to bother us many times, asking us questions and saying things we couldn't understand. He then brought out a Tiramisu with a candle, and put my mom in an incredibly awkward position while he loudly sang happy birthday, even though it wasn't her birthday. I've never been to Italy, but I imagine the food at Mamma Lucia is pretty authentic. I've been here twice and food is awesome. I love their pizza. You can taste the quality of the ingredients. The pizza is moist and flavorful. Their gelato is great as well. The first time I came here I ordered a pasta dinner. It came with a big salad and lots of warm bread. By the time my pasta carbonara came I was already nearly full off the bread and salad. To me this is a good thing because I love to take home left overs. My carbonara re-heated well at home too. This review is only for the gelato! I was walking around doing some volunteering for the church getting ready for Easter. I and my group members needed something good to eat. We thought about pizza but settled on the premade dessert! Dessert will always win over hot pizza on a sunny day! The gelato was homemade and delicious. I got the strawberry cheesecake and let me tell you something.... I will be back for a quart, pint, or gallon! Whatever I can purchase the next time I'm driving. Our server was very polite and attentive. Unfortunately, the food is absolutely terrible. Please do yourself a favor and make your pasta at home -- it will taste far better. We live in the Blairs and always walk by Mamma Lucia and assumed it would be a good option for a Saturday night after a movie. We ordered the chicken Marsala and the linguini mussels and both just lacked flavor, the Marsala was extremely sweet, and the mussel pasta had no wine/lemon taste as advertised. The sauce was just water mixed with some semblance of sauce. I was afraid of eating more because I thought I would get sick. I have never in my life had more awful Italian food. Also the garlic bread was very chewy. We feel bad because the service was good, which I feel is rare in the DMV area. The atmosphere is also nice and familiar. The Caesar salad was also good. We're sorry that the food didn't match the standard of service. Please reconsider the menu and the actual platters. read more

Pizza yes; pasta no. I order spaghetti with meat sauce and a single slice of cheese pizza. Pizza was great. NY style and pretty good approximation, having had my share of actual NY pizza. Spaghetti had whatever that smell Chef Boyardee has. It wasn't awful, but it isn't good either. I dumped a bunch of basil on it (like, a lot) and it got better. Edible but super disappointing. My girlfriend got a calzone and said it wasn't great either, just okay. We're not super snobby about Italian food, but I personally make a kickass sauce, so I am a bit disappointed when a professional chef can't do the same for an 18 dollar order of spaghetti. Oh, and the garlic bread is literally toasted white sandwich bread with butter and garlic. Like what you might make at home when you are too lazy to go to the store and get proper bread for garlic bread. So that was super surprising. I don't care much about garlic bread, but it was kind of... sad? Anyway, we WILL order here again, but only the pizza (and maybe we'll try a dessert). read more

Really disappointed with my experience. I went in excited because they have gluten free options. However, my food took 45 minutes to come out while my friends food was ready in 10 mins. I always expect gluten free food to take longer because of prep, but this was excessive. My friends were nearly done with their food when mine came out. They informed me it was taking longer because they prepped the pizza on a non-gluten free crust. I'm glad they noticed and made the switch to the right crust, but it just took too long. The pizza was sub-par. I should've gone with pasta. The pizza was very small, overcooked, and not filling. The only reason this review gets 2 stars is because they have 1/2 off bottles of wine when we went (Wednesday evening). Avoid getting gluten free pizza here. read more

We have grown to really enjoy this place. We get takeout a lot but also dine in. They remember us, and we regularly get great service. Salads are simple but fresh. We went to the location at 1302 East West Hwy in Silver Spring, MD in November, 2023. It was wonderful and we highly recommend it! We were celebrating my friend's birthday. We were a group of 9, and they really made us feel welcomed. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was perfect. Parking was no problem. Our server, Fatima, was amazing! She made sure we were well taken care of, and everyone pitched in to help us sing Happy Birthday! We only go here for the pizza because it's the closest thing to classic New York pizza that we've found in the area. The "greek" salad is pathetic. Bring a magnifying glass to find the is-that-feta? cheese. They throw some tiny diced pieces of white squares into the greens. The breads, both garlic and knots, leave much to be desired. This Mamma Lucia restaurant has lost a pair of customers--customers who, until now, had eaten there fairly regularly. The last time that we ordered take-out from them, we were told that our meal would be ready in 20-25 minutes. It ended up taking them more than 40 additional minutes to get our food to us. We decided to wait a couple of months so that the restaurant could gets its issues/problems sorted out, and then this past weekend, decided to place another order and try again. This time, we ordered a total of four items. Three of them were NOT what we ordered. This is unacceptable. Additionally, the front counter area where customers pay for their orders and pick up their food was MOBBED. The restaurant was making no efforts whatsoever--ZERO--to keep customers socially distanced from one another, even though nobody was eating inside and, easily, the staff could have kept people separated enough to be safe. In the midst of a COVID-19 pandemic that, in Maryland, is very widespread, this lack of care for customer safety is dangerous. read more

Wow watch out for wire items in your meal. Was at mother-in laws and she orders at least once a week from this Mamas. My husband had the shrimp montese and he almost choked on the wire, pic attached. He called and spoke to Carolina, the manager, and they offered an apology and to replace the shrimp montese. If I was the manager I would certainly place a higher emphasis on customer satisfaction. Decided to stop by this cute place for lunch while visiting Silver Spring MD. Looked up the menu online prior to making my final decision and I was intrigued . The location has plenty of parking and the establishment is clean and very inviting. They have lunch and dinner portion options. Upon being seated they give you the most delicious looking bread and parmsean oil and herb mixture..it is very good. I ordered a side Greek salad, which was pretty good until I got closer to the bottom; it was drowned in balsamic vinegar, which I was not a fan of (picture attached) but thats personal preference. Also ordered a salmon picatta with spinach, no complaints, serving size was huge so I have plenty left over for dinner. If you're a wino (like me) the wine selection is just basic but the pinot grigio (forgot the brand) was pretty good. Sorry forgot to take a picture of the menu but you can take a peek online. I would give this place 5 stars, but it's so fucking expensive. Why? I just want to know why a large bbq chicken pizza that has 3oz of chicken on it would cost $27. Where else is a medium pizza $20?! I have been coming to the Silver Spring location for years (2002)even when I lived in other areas in the DMV. It has always been a crowded little spot with really good food. It really felt welcoming like a family whether it was carry out or dine in. Over the past year there is a noticeable change at the Silver Spring location since Jr, has taken over. I think his staff is running him, rather him managing the staff. Covid could be blamed, but bad customer service and decline in the quality of food is a company culture issue. I don't know if the newer cooks and wait staff are racist but I've never been treated so poorly. It's as though Jr wants to be liked so he goes along with it. Until today I went back to the establishment multiple times because of people who managed the establishment prior to Jr taking the reigns. Today I received my food ( meatball sub) the bread was raw. This is the second time this has happened. A few weeks ago I decided to dine in. The table bread was raw, and there was so much parmesan cheese on my food it tasted like dust. I literally packed up my food and went to the police station on New Hampshire and Colesville Rd. I was looking for a lab because that's how concerned I was. Today I ordered a meatball sub and a slice of cheese pizza. There was a chemical after taste from the pizza. While I'm waiting for them to bring my sandwich back. I notice the restaurant credentials in the window on the counter so I took a picture. Apparently this made Jr upset. I'm sitting with my feet crossed and he kicked my foot. Initially I thought it was a mistake but he looked back and kept walking. I called him less than a polite name. He told me i was very disrespectful and he didn't want me to come bsck to his restaurant. He went on some "45"diatribe " this is my establishment and I can ask you to leave and not come back. He was calling me ignorant ( you know the stereotypes of all Black women attempting to assert themselves).Then he mentioned about me taking a picture of his credentials and that's when I knew that's what set him off. I can't remember the last time I found a dish inedible -- but I did here. The angel hair pasta with seafood was cooked to a paste with at least as much sticky, sweetish "cream" sauce as noodles -- a gummy mess. The shrimp and scallops were OK, so this was what I ate. Three of my four companions gave their dishes -- also pasta -- bad reviews, though not quite as negative as mine. None felt their meals were worth $30 per plate. One friend did like his Alfredo. Fried calamari were cooked to toughness. Pizzas sample we got was the best of the lot. Oddly, the Chianti was the best I've had in a while, and the service was very good. But no one should do to pasta what these people did. It just isn't that hard to cook if all you're doing is slapping sauce on it. I told the chef about the food and paid for it, as I don't think people should eat for free. But beware before you order. read more

I know this seems like a ludicrous statement but mama Lucia As pizza/pasta haven is low-carb/Keto friendly. They have zoodles to replace pasta, a protein only meal option and plenty of healthy options like salmon with grilled vegetables (which are low carb- broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, mushrooms, asparagus!). It's definitely not cheap but an excellent option if you are watching carbs. Highly recommend if you are looking for a Keto/low carb option.
