This is probably not the best place for anything other than pizza. Mother day special Momma's crab cake roasted potatoes and broccoli. First of all the potatoes were dry and no flavor. However the broccoli were delicious. The wine list is elaborate and I chose a glass of the seven oak, nice pairing with the flavorless crab cakes. The Mother's Day special came with a Cesar salad with a mound of dressing an Italian cheese of sorts. The service lack desire and I'm not sure if I will recommend this place to friends and family. read more

Food was terrible - their garlic bread was sliced bread you find in a store with garlic butter poured over it. Things never got better from there. Pizza looked better, but didnt have it. The pastas we had were sub par at best. Waiter also offered a sangria on the house if we buy one. They were both on the bill when the bill came. Was too annoyed by then to try to fix it. Such a huge disappointment! I got dinner to go from here for the first time in maybe two years. Chicken piccata - the meat was like shoe leather, difficult to cut and chew. I'm Sicilian American and I approve of Mamma Lucia. No really, I come from a family of New Yorkers and as far as pizza with crust close to New York- we go to mamma Lucia. We went to the original in Rockville when I was a little kid and were siked when the silver spring location opened. I have a tomato allergy now too, so when I tell you their white pizza is actually good that's a hard find usually- but they put ricotta with it. My favorite dish is the chicken saltimbocca which is more Roman Italian but I was just in Rome a few weeks ago and I dare say this saltimbocca was better than one saltimbocca I got in Italy. I based my saltimbocca recipe on how close to Mamma Lucia's I can get. If you don't like tomato sauce for pasta, ask for garlic and olive oil instead - it's always solid and mixes well with the extra sauce from the saltimbocca. Thanks Bruno's son for being a sweetheart and continuing the Mamma Lucia recipe now that we're grown up too Update: prices were changed and now there is an exorbitant service fee so it is no longer an affordable option. For exl an order that was 64 went up to 78 with their service fee, and that's without having to tip. Life time customers but now my family has to make mamma Lucia a once in a while thing (maybe once a year) instead of often (twice a month). When prices are more reasonable or return to how they were, so will we as customers. read more

My second favorite pizza in the Baltimore/Washington area. I always get carry out from here because it's fast and super convenient. The service is always friendly and helpful. I have dined in once here and found it to be really over priced as far as entrees and wine go. 9.00 for a glass of HOUSE RED?! That's absurd. So I stick to carry out. The mushroom pizza is to die for, and it goes great with their Greek salad. First and foremost....I would certainly go here again without any hesistation. Quick and fast business lunch. Nothing fancy here, but flavors abound. Five of us all enjoyed our lunches, with everyone liking the pizza (as did I, and it is one of my top foods). The pizza was New York style, and almost perfect for that style. Family and I just moved to the area two weeks ago and decided to try the local establishments out. We will never return for pasta here ever again. The restaurant is not as big as any nation wide chain, but at 6:00 on a Saturday there was no wait for a party of four or under. That's probably because the floor-to-ceiling windows will bake anyone unfortunate enough to be seated near them! It was uncomfortably hot and could easily be fixed with some sun screens or window coverings. The bread and dipping sauce was tasty and refilled quickly (as were the drinks), though I think I could make better at home. The salads were of good portion, with a tad too much dressing. Then came the true bummer: dinner. We ordered the oil and cheese (whoops, I mean the lasagna), the chicken parmesan, and the pasta norcina. The lasagna was the worst I have ever seen in my life. It is literally layers of pasta, oil, and cheese topped with some marina sauce. My sister took two bites and left it alone. The chicken parmesan was alright, large enough portion, but was not anything to write home about according to my brother-in-law. I liked the pasta norcina, but it was way overpriced at 14 when it was home-style quality. Gellato is always expensive anywhere you go and so we passed on the 2.50 for a small cup temptation. CVS and Giant is right next door if it sparks your interest. We did not try the pizza, but I'm not sure I want to come back after this. Save yourself the money and trouble and find a pasta recipe online somewhere. read more

The food was delicious (I had the pesto chicken ravioli and gelato). Unfortunately, afterwards the waitress told us there was a problem with the POS system and our credit cards couldn't go through. Like fools, we waited about an hour for the system to go back up before she asked us if we'd like to pay in cash. We were without our cards the whole time. When we said we didn't have enough cash on us, she was miraculously able to swipe our cards at a different register. The next day someone tried to buy $2000+ worth of jewelry online with my credit card. I wish I had stopped at the ATM on the way. My hubby and I went here a few times for their ny style pizza. It comes out oily, hot and delicious. They also give you bread and garlic butter/oil for dipping and it is delicious. I had to opportunity to visit Mamma Lucia while I was in Maryland for Memorial Weekend to visit a friend. I chose the Silver Spring location because it was directly around the corner from where I was staying. I had the lucky pleasure of being joined by my friend who is a rather picky eater, so I was apprehensive at first, since he's stuck on only one particular Italian restaurant. I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana because it's my go-to dish when I'm trying somewhere new. It was delicious and the portion size was just enough. My friend, who again is skeptical about new places, ordered the Chicken Alfredo. To his delight, it was better than his staple Italian restaurant! His words, not mine! The food was fresh and the service was excellent. My friend had forgotten to specify the type of pasta he wanted for his Alfredo, after it had already come out, but he was easily accommodated with no problem. I like that their prices are reasonable and that they serve an olive oil and herb blend for the complimentary bread. It is also a plus that you can get gelato! I will definitely visit again next time I'm in the area and in the mood for pasta. read more

I am surprised with the low reviews. I've been living in the SS area for almost 2 years and, because of the number of patrons I saw in the restaurant, decided to give it a try. My boyfriend and I dined there a few weeks ago and LOVED the food! The reason I'm giving this a 4 star because all the desserts I wanted they were out of. Last night I picked up a calzone and a lasagne pizza. I'm assuming the calzone was good (that was my boyfriends) but I can say the pizza was AMAZING!! Best pizza I've ever had! It was overcooked and cooked over again and put on a bed of romaine lettuce. I call and spoke to a gentleman who said he would refund my $$ for the salad. I check my account and nothing was refund. While many will complain that the pizza is a tad pricey, it is still the best slice you can get in Silver Spring. Beats Flippin' any day of the week, especially thanks to their dozen+ offerings of different slice toppings (compared to Flippin Pizza's 4 or 5) Quality is there, with rich sauce and the proper cheese. You'll notice when you go in, apart from specials, there is no menu with clear pricing, which I believe is deliberate.
