Mambo is not what it used to be. Location is convenient off of IH10 East. Parking is a plenty. Depending on when you come there could be no wait to why did I agree to wait 90 minutes for a table? So the go to for me is the mambo #1 which consists of 2 fish filets, fried shrimp mambo rice or fries with a roll. It appears they have downsized this dish by a fish filet and while back I was able to get both the rice and fries but now you get only 1. The Coca Cola Freestyle machine is no longer here as well. I did see that crawfish is on the menu and our daughter had a combo of it with shrimp, potatoes, and corn. For $25.00 thought it was a rip off. Unfortunately our waitress didn't listen when I placed my order to come with fries because my plate came out with the rice. I had to get up to mention this because I couldn't get her attention. Upon arriving everything started well and we thought I was going to give 5-Star but things changed. We were kindly welcomed in and the hostess set us immediately. The waiter came over and nicely started our order. We received our order in a good time. The fried rice was very dry and not there were some plain white rice in it, so not cooked well.I use to really like Mambo's fried wise but not that night. My niece didn't like the tacos she said they were not tasteful. The waiter never came over to check on us. We waited for a long time for us to get our tickets, he didn't come over to us. I went to the front of the bar and spoke with another waitress to let her know our waiter never came back to give us to-go boxes and give us our tickets. She didn't apologize she just turned around and saw him and starting talking to him in Spanish. He finally came over for us to pay. Worst food quality ever!! I am writing this as I get out of here. I ordered a dozen of oysters and to sadly say they were the size of a Quarter literally. Then I order my food and sadly the fried shrimp looked like popcorn shrimp. And fish fillet wasn't even as thick as they are. Also my wife order had hair on it. So she had to wait more time to eat. I have been going to this Mambo for around 5 years. Then it was great! Good portion sizes and (for the most part) decent service. Lately the service has SUCKED, and the portion sizes have gotten smaller while the prices have gone up. But I recently encountered something new there: They have great raw oysters, and when I asked them for fried oysters, they said NO, WE DO NOT FRY OYSTERS! Came to eat Crawfish and it was Delicious!!!! They put on the crawfish a lot of garlic and that makes it really flavorful, the waitresses was super nice and attentive, she would always come back to see if we needed anything else. I assume the only thing that's worth eating is all the fried food with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce so you don't taste the actual seafood itself. The food quality has really gone down hill. My son's rice had a hair in it. The restaurant had a leaky roof in several places. A family member of mine was brought out an over fried fish and when they brought him out a new plate, he had to wait 20 minutes for his new plate. They didn't even comp him for it and a Manager didn't even come to the table. My salad that I paid extra for had brown pieces in it so I couldn't even eat it. I have eaten at a Mambo Seafood in Houston. I enjoyed it but this one in Baytown is more upscale. Sitting on the deck was pleasant with a nice breeze. I had the combination ceviche and fish which was very fresh and 3 Empanadas made with Shrimp, Cheese, Black Bean and Chipotle. My party of three visited around 8p on a Saturday night. The parking lot was packed and the restaurant was full, however we got seated within minutes at the last available table. One of the first things I noticed when we sat down was the soy sauce in the condiment tray. Little did I know the greatness is was going to eventually go on... Since we were in Houston and closer to fresh seafood, we started with fried calamari and raw oysters. There was a really generous and delicious portion of fried calamari on the platter plate, and the oysters on the half shell were fresh and tasty. I discovered that the bottle of Valentina Salsa Picante on our table tasted great on the calamari and oysters. I went with Fish Fillets Mambo Ranchero for my entree, and let me tell you that the flavors and volume did not disappoint. Reference my photo because the serving of Shrimp Fried Rice was big (dare I say I couldn't even finish it even though it was one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever eaten) and the significant amount of veggies, shrimp, and fish fillets just about broke me. Note in my photo that you can't even see the fish fillets because they were buried under all kinds of goodness. Even though I avoided the fresh dinner roll and side salad, I still couldn't finish the main entree. We'll definitely return to Mambo next time we're in Houston. read more

For as long as I've lived in Houston, I've never eaten at Mambo. That changed this week when we visited the parents. Despite a sea of folks both inside and waiting to be seated, we had just enough time to order drinks at the bar, walk back over to join our party and less than five minutes later, we were being seated. The efficiency here is outstanding. Mambo's staff are clearly a well oiled machine and seemingly easily kept the flow of incoming and outgoing customers on pace. Their food was average, nothing outstanding but again, moving the amount of food to serve the massive indoor and outdoor seating area was a site to witness. We enjoyed the oyster special, gumbo, bacon wrapped shrimp, grilled mix and fried shrimp. That said, everyone in our party has extensive experience in the restaurant industry and could appreciate the small details, like flow, that others may easily miss. Great job, Mambo. Mambo Seafood is outstanding, in fact I dined here three times during my weeklong stay. I am so sad that their location in Dallas closed, but am thrilled to have found them in the Houston area and plan on many, many return visits when I come to town. I feel that I should address some of the negative reviews they have received. You will have a much more enjoyable experience if you do not go to this restaurant with any preconceived notions about what a seafood combo or platter should be. This is not southern style food, there are no hushpuppies. What it IS is super fresh, perfectly cooked, Mexican influenced seafood. I have tried so many things from their menu, but favorites are definitely: - Shrimp Cocktail - served with bits of jalapeno, avocado, and cilantro. - Whole Red Snapper - grilled whole so you'll need to remove the bones, but it is worth the effort because the fish is so fresh and tasty with a delicate flavor which reminds me of lobster. - Grilled Salmon - moist and perfectly seasoned and cooked. (Pappadeaux Seafood Restaurant has nothing on this place.) Mambo rice is the perfect accompaniment. - Raw Oysters on the half shell - very fresh and delicious. I ordered a dozen, but received 14 because a few were slightly smaller than usual. I love the fresh side salad, and especially the included slice of jicama. And, be sure to order the mangorita (mango margarita), it's delicious! My only complaint is that their ranch dressing is not very good and neither is the dinner roll, but the rest of the food is so good that it more than makes up for it. read more

Food wasn't 4 stars for me but I do think if you are going casual seafood this place has great options both healthy and fried and the portions are large and price is very reasonable. Service was outstanding I sat in the large outdoor patio and the server checked on me more than I could have ever expected. The jalapeños poppers are a hidden gem --they just say stuffed but they actually are stuffed with a good amount not of crab and shrimp in them!! The ceviche was just ok for me. Had the trio with oysters {that was a first in a ceviche glass} shrimp {baby baby ones} chopped up fish and sliced octopus. And the sauce was lemony but also kinda like a salsa tomato base. We ended up at Mambo Seafood after our first choice had a long line. I had the number 1 with fried rice which I thought was weird for a Mexican seafood restaurant to have. Well let's just say I was very pleasantly surprised how good the fried rice was. The breading in the fried fish and shrimp was delicious as well.
