Our server last night at the Italian place recommended this cute little diner for breakfast as he used to work there. Everyone was friendly and the food came out really quick. Don ordered the short stack of pancakes. They were cake like and had a nice flavor. We loved how they gave you a little bit of fruit with your pancakes. We had strawberries, banana, and blueberries. I ordered the two eggs scrambled with bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. Well done. I appreciate that they did toast the sourdough nicely. Everything was tasty and the prices were reasonable. We were driving I40 across the United States and needed to stop for lunch. Following Google, we were directed to the opposite side of the train tracks. This became a problem as a very long train came through. We had to wait and wait and wait. That wasn't the restaurant's fault, just make sure your directions keep you on the right side of the train tracks. We were seated right away in the restaurant. Everyone was sweet and attentive. We ordered enchiladas and breakfast waffle with eggs and bacon. Just the right food for the time. We would have liked to have explored Gallup, but the road was calling. Stopped by Mama's Kitchen during our Route 66 trip and I'm so glad we did. Had the chorizo and egg handheld burrito for breakfast and it was mouthwatering delicious. The burrito was filled with egg, chorizo, hash browns and you got to choose between red or green chile. I chose green and it was spicy and super flavorful. The staff were super friendly and service was quick. Would definitely recommend if you ever stop in Gallup, NM! read more

THIS IS THE BREAKFAST SPOT! Just shut up and eat here. When my family walked in we were the only white people, which I took as a sign we were in the right place, this is where locals eat. The portions are huge, the food is tasty, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and if all else fails, there's a list of table manners painted on the wall. It's kid-friendly too. A free refill on hot chocolate? Say less! I'm not sure when I'll be back in Gallup, but when I am, I will absolutely be coming back for breakfast. read more

Great place the locals seem to know, but not obvious for travelers. There were a lot of locals and we got some looks for being strangers but no one seemed to mind us, more just curious. The food seemed to have a mix of themes from traditional diner food, Mexican, and some native Indian influences too. This added to make the recipes more interesting, fresh, and worth coming back for again. We pass through the area a few times a year, we will be coming back here next time we do. read more

My last stop at Mama's Kitchen was on a Sunday so I was prepared for a crowd and a wait. It was crowded but they had extra staff on duty and the service was fast and excellent. Got a cheese and green chili omelette with the beans. The chilies do not disappoint. Coffee was good which is kinda rare when traveling. It was so good got a burrito to go for dinner on the road. I've recently moved to Tennessee so whenever I'm home my father takes to me his favorite spots, he's been talking about this place for a while, so on this trip he had to take me. I have to say I'm not disappointed. One thing Gallup has is lots of places to eat, what they do not have is GOOD places to eat. Mamas is a great place to eat. Everyone is friendly and it's a family affair. It's quick, it's clean and the service is excellent. The portion sizes are huge so you get a lot for what you pay for. We were greeted right away by the staff. They were very friendly. Restaurant is very clean. Was busy when we were there but were served our drinks right away and soon our server came to take our food orders. Food was hot and fresh and came out quick for most of our party. Unfortunately my tacos came out later than everyone else's and they were almost done by the time I got mine. Food was good but not the best Mexican food I have had. My wife had the chorizo and eggs and said it was delicious. We opted to try this place because two of the Native Kitchens we tried to go to before this said they were open but were closed. Stopped in on the way from Albuquerque to Paso Robles, as it had been snowing for a while, and breakfast sounded good. Had the Huevos Rancheros with red sauce (and some green on the side). Wife had an omelet. Food was delicious, service was friendly and on point. Clearly a "local" place, but still nice for those of us "just passing through".
