2 cheese enchiladas with red and green chili (Christmas) 2 over easy eggs, beans, hash browns, & a tortilla
Betsey P.

If you come through Gallup, and your even a little bit hungry, make this your destination instead of a fast food joint One of my favorite things about New Mexico is the chili, red or green. I came in search of just that and was not disappointed. The red was nice and spicy, the green a flavor explosion. The portion was anything but small so come hungry. The ambiance is railway chachki, which is appropriate, considering they are right on Rt 66 across from the railway.

Liver & onions with mashed potatoes and Texas toast.

Food was delicious! Great variety of American and New Mexican. Great service! Cute little diner.

This location is on the Historic Route 66 Highway. I'm still in search for the best New Mexico chili and trying as many locations before leaving. I enjoyed the huevos rancheros breakfast in green chili salsa at El Rancho. While dining at El Rancho, we met a group visiting from Wales, UK in the U.S. for the World Cup turns out Josh Thomas is a professional Rugby Player in Wales they were so nice. The service was great. I bought a few souvenirs and Prickly Pear candy at their gift shop. The weather in Gallup is much nicer and cooler than it was in Rosewell. Check out this near town! Happy Yelping :)

I ordered the three dips and chips - which is a shareable appetizer. It came out almost as soon as I ordered it and since I was only the third person in the restaurant I wondered if they had a bunch pre-made in case they got busy. The guac wasn't made to order. It looked like it had been sitting out for awhile, but tasted ok. Queso was good. Salsa was decent. Chips were good but I had more tiny broken pieces than actual dip worthy chips. For dinner I chose the Rita Moreno with chicken, no sour cream and no beans. I got it "Christmas style" so I could try both green and red sauces. When it was brought to me the plate had beans on it and the enchiladas weren't even hot - they were barely warm. The cheese garnish on top was barely melted. I started with the red side. The sauce was very spicy (I love spice so no big deal for me). I wasn't a big fan of the flavor so I switched to the green side. The sauce had a decent amount of spice but way more flavorful IMO. The tiny rice scoop was decent, but again, all this food was barely warm. The waiter came by once to say sorry about the beans but a random hotel/restaurant guest that was muttering something incoherently prevented me from being able to get a refill of my soda. By the time the waiter checked in again I was over it and asked for my check. I guess I could say the appetiser met expectation but would have been much better had the guac been made to order. With all the hype this place got I expected more. There is a bar and a gift shop connected to it and a historic hotel where apparently come famous people stayed long ago. Since I'm not staying there and was there only for dinner I would have rather had a better meal experience and less hype. My advice is to keep looking unless you have it as a stop on your bucket/checklist.

They all said it didn't taste good. So I added salt, pepper, A1 even green chili to mask the taste but I couldn't do it. The mash potatoes had a weird taste to it as well as if some shrimp juice fell in it (it has a fishy taste to it) the rice is salty AF. When I had mentioned to the waitress that I didn't like it thinking maybe the could make me something else's nope she was complaining that it was a $27 meal and there nothing they could do because I ate half of it and I put stuff on the steak already I was trying to explain how I really tried to eat but it doesn't take good and she said well I asked you twice and you didn't say anything she kept being rude and passive aggressive towards me so I asked for the manager but he said the same thing nothing we can do it sounds like a service issue if I want something else I have to pay for that as well also that nobody's complained about the steak or anything else so it was just my problem. I left feeling disappointed because I've never had to deal with service like that. For $150 I expected good service and quality food I'm disappointed I wasted so much money on this place PLEASE AVOID THIS RESTAURANT it is dirty and the food is gross 0/10 it doesn't even deserve a 1 star

Then ordered the Coca-Cola cake to go (w the ice cream in a separate container). Server came back and said the manager "caught" her putting ice cream in a container & told her she couldn't give it to us, to go. Said that was "against the rules". And I couldn't have it to go. So even though I'm paying for the whole desert, I wasn't "allowed" to take it with me. I'M SORRY!!! WHAT!!?!?!?!!!! The server felt bad, so she "took the ice cream off of our bill". Well, ma'am...
