Where in Gallup, NM can you go and get all day breakfast and Mexican food, and have both entrées come out amazing! We decided to try this place out and glad we did! A diamond in the rough, from the moment we walked in the service was great, food was excellent, iced tea was strong, atmosphere was awesome! I even bought a pint of salsa from them it had a kick! Would definitely eat here again.

Route 66 Diner This place is like a trip back in time to a 50s diner you would expect in Happy Days. I ordered chorizo eggs, hash browns and refried beans. Perfectly seasoned and piping hot. My wife ordered two eggs over easy, hash browns and bacon. Cooked perfectly to order. We were seated quickly and the service was fast. The waitress was one that everyone hopes to get. Polite, came by to refill our drinks without having to be flagged down, made sure everything was just as we had hoped, but also not a hovering waitress. The grand finally was when we ordered our dessert. We are both big fans of a properly cooked sopapilla. So, we each ordered one with a side of honey. They were huge and perfectly cooked. What was surprising was that you could also order them as your main course, stuffed with chicken, beef, shredded beef, carne adovada, or carne asada! Maybe next time! One of the best places in town to visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

    Navajo taco and sopapillas

Such an awesome stop! We went to Route 66 Diner and it was incredible! We got a Navajo taco with chopped green chili, sopapillas, and a drink -- all for a great price. Everything was delicious! The sopapillas were amazing with honey (though a little powdered sugar would have made them perfect). The atmosphere was adorable -- classic diner vibes -- and the girls working there were so sweet and friendly. Definitely a place worth stopping by!

Not impressed by their patties "made daily"

Seems like frozen kid sized patties. Kinda disappointed. On google it says their patties made daily. The bun is way bigger than the hamburger patties.

We came here on Christmas Eve for breakfast as our last stop before returning home after a very long road trip. I have been to a couple of diners with Route 66 theme so far. Yet, this was the best in my opinion. People were so friendly, and no, I am not talking only about who works there; everyone including other customers currently having their meals or chit-chatting, or whoever came after us. Everyone welcomed us. Tbh, I've never ever experienced something like this. I felt like I walked into one of my relatives' houses. The service was also top-notch. They gave suggestions about the menu and kept refilling our coffee throughout our meal. The menu was very affordable and the items were quite big. My husband ordered carne adovada plates, and I ordered a carne adovada burrito from the grab & go section. I didn't know, and our server warned me that that burrito would be smaller in size than the regular burrito which was listed very back of the menu. Well, I cannot eat a lot in one sitting, so I went with the small one. Glad I did. Because it was still too much for me to eat in the morning. Both items would be prepared with either red or green chili. Because we couldn't decide, our server suggested having it together; make it Christmassy. I loved the sauce. I can handle my spice, so I felt it maybe 6 or 7 out of 10. A good kick, and still enjoyable to eat. If I ever be on the same road to some places, I will definitely stop by again. Thank you.

    Navajo Burger with green chilies

A new Mexican diner with great food and friendly staff. We have become hugh fans of their Navajo Burger with green chilies. It's a half pound burger on Navajo flatbread with all of the fixings.

I spent the night in Gallup, and was looking for a great place to have breakfast. Thank goodness I found this place on yelp because I may have had the best breakfast I have ever had. The diner is not fancy, but you can smell the food from outside and it pulls you in like a rope. I was able to choose my seat, and a very friendly waitress I was at my table in less than a minute to get my drink order. There are many choices on the menu, including a few Mexican breakfast options, which I really appreciated because I figured if I was in Gallup, I wanted to get some thing with Mexican or American Indian flavor influences. I settled on the eggs and enchiladas and was not disappointed. My server recommended the green sauce has the red sauce is a bit spicier, but the green sauce was still quite a bit of bite and a whole lot of flavor. The enchiladas were full of cheese, and so delicious. The eggs were well cooked and the beans were everything. I hoped they would be. It was very clear as I looked around that this is a Place beloved by the locals, which always bodes well when I'm traveling. Most of the patrons knew each other but I ended up chatting with many of them, and they were very friendly. I highly recommend grabbing breakfast here if you find yourself in the area. I sincerely doubt that you will regret it and if I find myself in Gallup again, you can bet I'll be sitting there eating.

A solid road trip stop! Good burgers and ice tea. The service was friendly and fast. The milkshakes looked great! But we didn't have one. We had bacon cheese burger and green chili cheese burger. The place is small but very clean.

I figured if they're happy back there then I shouldn't worry about what comes out. I wasn't greeted with chips and salsa which was a surprise, seeing how it's a staple at every Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. So that was a bummer. You would think that nice salty chips and spicy salsa would pair well with a cold beer. It would make you thirsty for another thus adding to their bottom line. It's probably for the best after that salty mess last night at the Garage restaurant in Oklahoma. I still feel like Lot's wife after she looked back at Sodom and Gomorrah. My bubbly server took my order of a beer and a Mexicali hamburger steak (closest thing to meatloaf that I could get). It came to my table piping hot. My steak was covered in chopped green chilis, and was extremely delicious. The beans and rice were standard, so no woop there. Panz Alegra was pretty busy on this Saturday night. You can sit in the bar area, or the regular restaurant. The bar was a hoppin', while where I was seated was pretty tame. Unless you consider the exuberant busboy dancing his way to tables entertaining. He made me a bit nervous. The guy was one misstep away from adding more dishes to my table than I was comfortable with. Ricky Martin he was not. You can't go wrong with Panz. You can get better, but who wants to drive all the way to Las Cruces. Quick Tip: This place boasts American-Mexican-Italian food on its menu. Interesting. I never would have thought that American food would find its way on the menu. Oh, from the outside, the restaurant looks abandoned. One of many relics you can find along Route 66. But don't be deterred. There's people inside, dancing and otherwise.

The Chile Releno was reallly good and had a lot of flavor to it. The tacos were pretty basic and the rice was good. My meal came with a large folded flour tortilla with a butter pad that confused me. The menu was expansive and some of the burgers that passed by me looked really good. They touted a sign that said an best authentic mexican food award, but really its tex-mex. This location is on the Historic Route 66 Highway. I'm still in search for the best New Mexico chili and trying as many locations before leaving. I enjoyed the huevos rancheros breakfast in green chili salsa at El Rancho. I ordered the three dips and chips - which is a shareable appetizer. It came out almost as soon as I ordered it and since I was only the third person in the restaurant I wondered if they had a bunch pre-made in case they got busy. The guac wasn't made to order. It looked like it had been sitting out for awhile, but tasted ok. Queso was good. Salsa was decent. Chips were good but I had more tiny broken pieces than actual dip worthy chips. For dinner I chose the Rita Moreno with chicken, no sour cream and no beans. I got it "Christmas style" so I could try both green and red sauces. When it was brought to me the plate had beans on it and the enchiladas weren't even hot - they were barely warm. The cheese garnish on top was barely melted. I started with the red side. The sauce was very spicy (I love spice so no big deal for me). I wasn't a big fan of the flavor so I switched to the green side. The sauce had a decent amount of spice but way more flavorful IMO. The tiny rice scoop was decent, but again, all this food was barely warm. The waiter came by once to say sorry about the beans but a random hotel/restaurant guest that was muttering something incoherently prevented me from being able to get a refill of my soda. By the time the waiter checked in again I was over it and asked for my check. I guess I could say the appetiser met expectation but would have been much better had the guac been made to order. With all the hype this place got I expected more. There is a bar and a gift shop connected to it and a historic hotel where apparently come famous people stayed long ago. Since I'm not staying there and was there only for dinner I would have rather had a better meal experience and less hype. My advice is to keep looking unless you have it as a stop on your bucket/checklist.

When I brought it out, my husband thought it was beef at first because of how mild it tasted. The portions are huge. HUGE! One taco was seriously the size of a medium pizza and somehow we still finished it. If you're taking it to go like we did, eat it within 5 to 10 minutes so it doesn't get soggy. They also have free broth and honey inside which was such a nice touch and made it even better. Dipping the fry bread in the broth was a nice touch. Like a lighter consomé. Try it with the honey, too! We did with the remaining fry bread as a bit of a dessert. The best part though was the woman working there. She was so kind, answered all my questions, explained everything, and even gave me a magazine about Gallup. If you want something authentic and filling, definitely stop here.
