This location is on the Historic Route 66 Highway. I'm still in search for the best New Mexico chili and trying as many locations before leaving. I enjoyed the huevos rancheros breakfast in green chili salsa at El Rancho. While dining at El Rancho, we met a group visiting from Wales, UK in the U.S. for the World Cup turns out Josh Thomas is a professional Rugby Player in Wales they were so nice. The service was great. I bought a few souvenirs and Prickly Pear candy at their gift shop. The weather in Gallup is much nicer and cooler than it was in Rosewell. Check out this near town! Happy Yelping :)

I ordered the three dips and chips - which is a shareable appetizer. It came out almost as soon as I ordered it and since I was only the third person in the restaurant I wondered if they had a bunch pre-made in case they got busy. The guac wasn't made to order. It looked like it had been sitting out for awhile, but tasted ok. Queso was good. Salsa was decent. Chips were good but I had more tiny broken pieces than actual dip worthy chips. For dinner I chose the Rita Moreno with chicken, no sour cream and no beans. I got it "Christmas style" so I could try both green and red sauces. When it was brought to me the plate had beans on it and the enchiladas weren't even hot - they were barely warm. The cheese garnish on top was barely melted. I started with the red side. The sauce was very spicy (I love spice so no big deal for me). I wasn't a big fan of the flavor so I switched to the green side. The sauce had a decent amount of spice but way more flavorful IMO. The tiny rice scoop was decent, but again, all this food was barely warm. The waiter came by once to say sorry about the beans but a random hotel/restaurant guest that was muttering something incoherently prevented me from being able to get a refill of my soda. By the time the waiter checked in again I was over it and asked for my check. I guess I could say the appetiser met expectation but would have been much better had the guac been made to order. With all the hype this place got I expected more. There is a bar and a gift shop connected to it and a historic hotel where apparently come famous people stayed long ago. Since I'm not staying there and was there only for dinner I would have rather had a better meal experience and less hype. My advice is to keep looking unless you have it as a stop on your bucket/checklist.

We will definitely eat here again next time we are in town.

The fries were good but the meat on the sandwich was overcooked and super chewy but dry. My sidekick had the fish and fries and some kind of soup. Then ordered the Coca-Cola cake to go (w the ice cream in a separate container). Server came back and said the manager "caught" her putting ice cream in a container & told her she couldn't give it to us, to go. Said that was "against the rules". And I couldn't have it to go. So even though I'm paying for the whole desert, I wasn't "allowed" to take it with me. I'M SORRY!!! WHAT!!?!?!?!!!! The server felt bad, so she "took the ice cream off of our bill". Well, ma'am... Miss "manager," have you ever had chocolate cake with NO ice cream???? Welp - that's like saying "you can't have syrup with your pancakes - butter with your roll- and apparently... Our server, Cleo was very nice and friendly. The drinks all came out tasting delicious. All of our food was cooked great. My husband noted that the appetizer sampler tasted better than usual. My dad loved the bourbon Street chicken, served on a platter similar to fajitas. We had a great experience at this Applebee's. The interior is nice, with art pleasant to the eyes. All in all, I would come back again if I were in the area on a road trip or stopping through town.

It wasn't exactly welcoming and immediately left a bad first impression. The service only got worse. Our meals were brought out at different times instead of all at once. Some of us had food while others sat waiting. Then my mother's meal never arrived at all. We assumed it was just running behind, but after waiting nearly an hour, we finally had to flag down our waitress to ask where it was. That's when we found out her order had been completely forgotten and never put in. It's common courtesy not to eat while someone at your table is still waiting for their meal, so the adults sat there while our food got cold. The only person I let eat was my daughter because she was hungry. By the time my mother's food was finally cooked and brought out, the rest of our meals were cold and the dining experience was completely ruined. No one should have to wait an hour just to discover their meal was forgotten. Between the terrible odor, food being served at different times, a forgotten order, cold meals, and inattentive service, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. Unfortunately, we won't be returning to this Applebee's.
