    A sopapilla - delicious!
    Laura P.

Great place for Mexican food. I highly recommend the sopapillas. We have them for dessert with honey. The coffee is excellent too. The service is friendly and efficient. The place is casual with plenty of seating.

Very very good. If you find yourself in Gallup, NM this is a must stop. We had the Navajo Taco green chili and Stuffed Sopaipilla green chili shredded beef. Staff was great. Restuarant was clean and service was good.

OMG!!! We had the homemade chile rellenos made with hatch chilis and the stuffed sopapillas. The food is AMAZING and our server Mary was incredible. Eat here, it's homemade and delicious otherwise huge portions. SO good

The service was great, food was delicious, they are dog friendly. Authentic Mexican atmosphere. Couldn't be better.

We stopped on our way back to California and were so glad we did. The place was full when we got there and stayed full during our dinner. We'll be back the next time we come through Gallup. Thanks for an incredible dinner.

Excellent selection, service, quality, portion size, value, and convenience you expect in a restaurant. Five stars all the way.

I decided to give this place a try for a quick bite and was disappointed. I came in for a to-go order and the gal was nice. The place itself is small and has very little lighting. I got my order and it looked as if it was just thrown into the to-go container. The food looked sad upon appearance but it was tasty?? I spent about $22 dollars for this masterpiece lol.

It's a place worth trying once, probably not again though. Posole and green Chile sauce with the Navajo Taco were on point. However, the stuffed sopaipilla and refried beans were just kinda flat to me. The beef inside the sopaipilla was in desperate need of seasoning, same with the beans. Portions are HUGE. Idk the sauces on the sopaipilla were kind of bland as well.

This location is on the Historic Route 66 Highway. I'm still in search for the best New Mexico chili and trying as many locations before leaving. I enjoyed the huevos rancheros breakfast in green chili salsa at El Rancho. While dining at El Rancho, we met a group visiting from Wales, UK in the U.S. for the World Cup turns out Josh Thomas is a professional Rugby Player in Wales they were so nice. The service was great. I bought a few souvenirs and Prickly Pear candy at their gift shop. The weather in Gallup is much nicer and cooler than it was in Rosewell. Check out this near town! Happy Yelping :)

I ordered the three dips and chips - which is a shareable appetizer. It came out almost as soon as I ordered it and since I was only the third person in the restaurant I wondered if they had a bunch pre-made in case they got busy. The guac wasn't made to order. It looked like it had been sitting out for awhile, but tasted ok. Queso was good. Salsa was decent. Chips were good but I had more tiny broken pieces than actual dip worthy chips. For dinner I chose the Rita Moreno with chicken, no sour cream and no beans. I got it "Christmas style" so I could try both green and red sauces. When it was brought to me the plate had beans on it and the enchiladas weren't even hot - they were barely warm. The cheese garnish on top was barely melted. I started with the red side. The sauce was very spicy (I love spice so no big deal for me). I wasn't a big fan of the flavor so I switched to the green side. The sauce had a decent amount of spice but way more flavorful IMO. The tiny rice scoop was decent, but again, all this food was barely warm. The waiter came by once to say sorry about the beans but a random hotel/restaurant guest that was muttering something incoherently prevented me from being able to get a refill of my soda. By the time the waiter checked in again I was over it and asked for my check. I guess I could say the appetiser met expectation but would have been much better had the guac been made to order. With all the hype this place got I expected more. There is a bar and a gift shop connected to it and a historic hotel where apparently come famous people stayed long ago. Since I'm not staying there and was there only for dinner I would have rather had a better meal experience and less hype. My advice is to keep looking unless you have it as a stop on your bucket/checklist.

I asked the waitress which was smaller the sopaipilla or the breakfast burrito? She said the sopaipilla. Holy moly. It was stuffed with thick bacon, hash browns, eggs and smothered in red and green salsa (they call it Christmas salsa). I ended up opening it and eating the inside because it was seriously enough for 2 people. Hubs had the Eye Opener. Two eggs, Christmas salsa, hash browns and bean, served with sopaipilla. He barely finished. The coffee was so good! Best place for breakfast in Gallup.

Saw a guy eating a sopapilla outside said it was good and there were several people outside waiting so we were like ok it's gonna be good. Ordered the Sopapilia covered in red sauce because it was a popular choice. Sadly, I was disappointed. I think it would have been good by itself no sauce. Just a sopapilla by itself. In sauce was too much. The red sauce did not taste homemade. If it is I'm sorry but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The kids drummettes were fried and tasty. Other than that it was just another diner. We did meet others who said they frequent but knowing true Mexican food, it's a no go for me. Service was ok. Ambiance Diner feel. We met a guy who said there was a cafe town the road that he preferred I don't remember the name but at least I know I'm not the only one who did not enjoy it. He was also from Cali so there you go. Sorry to disappoint. Good luck finding good eats. SYOY
