    Hawaiian Pizza
    Darren W.

With almost 2 hours to burn prior to the Yngwie Malmsteen concert at the nearby Library Music Hall and wanting to avoid getting gouged by their weak snack bar ($3 for a bag of chips???), we strolled through the venue's adjacent park and towards a shopping plaza, intending on hitting up the Redhead until Mama Pepino's stole our gaze. Their Hawaiian Pizza was just what Kay needed to kill her pang-plagued stomach. The bacon, ham, and pineapple were generous as was (perhaps too much so) the deeply savory sauce which came off like a hearty tomato soup. The crust was truly the pie's best quality, however. Imagine the perfect balance between crispness and chew, and let Mama have her way...with you. Also rock-solidly good was my half Italian Hoagie, one that succeeded with both a quality bread that was baked through yet not so much that it lost its plushness and a very ample helping of meats in addition to the requisite fresh vegetables and dressing. The staff was a hoot. They put up with us famously and joked with us when I came back from Wendy's (MP's doesn't have a public bathroom) with a Frosty for Kay. Afterwards, we took in a symphony... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JD-v7vVxJ4U

I ordered gyro salad No green peppers. I received salad with peppers and cold meat

Completely OVER Mama Pepinos SMH!! I'm sad to say but I don't think I'm ordering from them again. Their pizza is really good my kids love it. However every time I try to get something else it's a fail. This last time I ordered a gyro salad no green peppers. When it arrived not only did it have green peppers but the gyro meat was completely cold. I called to complain and get a new salad. Person on the phone was rude put me on hold twice while I was speaking. So now I don't even want the salad but was told they don't do refunds. Manager said he knows meat was on the grill bc he saw it. But I'm just wondering to myself I f the meat was hot my cheese would have melted. Right!? Basically it's a hit or miss with them and I'm just not gonna waste my money.

My diner tonight. Even got a cup for the reopening today.

I have been waiting a year for them to reopen after a fire shut them down. While I was disappointed it took so long I'm happy to have one of my go two spots back. The pizza is always good n love the breadsticks and hoagies. The owner is a super cooL local guy. Only issue I ever had is sometimes getting put on hold for a prolonged period when calling to order. Haven't had a bad or messed up order yet!

Aiello's Pizza in Shadyside finally got checked off my list after a friend who regularly goes to…read moretheir Allison Park location recommended it - and after going in I can see why he considers it one of his favorite pizza spots around Pittsburgh. The location on Murray Avenue has this storefront that is beautifully lit at night. Walking in, the first thing you notice is the incredible smell of the pizza. There was also plenty of seating with lots of clean tables, a large TV, surround sound music, and an impressive selection of bottled beverages, including a few nonalcoholic options along with an impressively larger selection of alcoholic drinks. Another big plus for me is that they sell pizza by the slice since I usually only want one slice instead of ordering a whole pie. One thing to know before you go is that they're cash only. They do have an ATM inside, but it charges a $3 fee. If you'd rather avoid that, there's also a PNC ATM about a six minute walk away. Since we went the day after Pickles-burgh we had to try the specialty pickle pizza for that day. It was topped with provolone, cheddar, ranch, bacon, dill, and, of course, pickles. As someone who absolutely loves pickles, I actually thought they used a little more pickle than the pizza needed, which is saying something. I ended up taking a few off and eating them separately. That said, the perfectly crispy bacon more than made up for it. The combination of the bacon, cheese, ranch, and pickle flavor was still fantastic. I really hope they continue offering pizzas with that perfectly crispy bacon because they absolutely nailed it. Another thing Aiello's really gets right is the texture of the pizza. When they reheat the slices, the cheese becomes beautifully crisp around the edges, and the crust strikes a great balance. It has just the right amount of oil, not greasy but not dry either, with a slight chew, a little sponginess from the yeast dough, and an overall texture that I really enjoyed. The ranch deserves its own mention. It definitely didn't taste like bottled ranch, which I'm usually not a fan of. It tasted homemade and paired really well with the pizza. I also had a taste of the traditional cheese, the white pizza, and the double stuffed meat slice. My favorite was easily the double stuffed meat because it was loaded with flavor and appeared the most filling. My second favorite was the pickle pizza because the crispy bacon and cheese paired so well with the pickle flavor. The white pizza came in third with its nice garlic flavor, while the traditional cheese was solid but didn't stand out quite as much as the specialty slices. Overall, Aiello's definitely lived up to the recommendation of my friend. If you're in the mood for specialty pizzas with a great crust and enjoy being able to grab a slice instead of committing to a whole pie, this is absolutely a place worth stopping by.

The pizza had a really nice crunch and cris. The crust was, also, seasoned for one or more of my slices; that was really good. I was not a fan of their white pizza; maybe it was the cheese but it had a "dank" flavor (2/5). Their Margherita was good, but not great (3/5). Their stuffed meat pizza was delicious...it was the favorite of all the slices we got (4/5). The pizza came out really hot and they were fast (5/5). They have been on my list for a while and we finally got to try them. I would still put Mineos ahead

We drive out from Monroeville just to grab their pies. Located in Squirrel Hill, parking can be a bit of a challenge, but there is a pay-to-park lot across the street tucked behind the businesses. Also, with old school class, Mineo's is cash only. They do have an ATM right in the store - in case you forgot. Dynasty loading - as they now have 4 shops including one directly in the Pittsburgh Airport (check their updated box logos with an airplane flying around!) All day. All year. Always- I would think to give Mineo's five stars, but this order was disappointing. The crust was over floured and lifeless, the cheese was missing the signature flavor pack of herbs, and the toppings were very clumped together under the cheese... but even these nitpicks- this place is a must go to! We ordered three large (and yes, that's a large large) pizzas - mushroom, extra cheese, and pepperoni. They are renowned for their thick layer of cheese with the toppings buried beneath. And this time, all of the pieces were well cut - which is rare. Service was quick. They know how to move through the takeout orders and even if they don't, pull up a seat and enjoy the theater of pizza making that you can witness in the expansive dining area.

Last night my brother and I, along with a friend, made my obligatory visit. It wasn't hard to convince them to go for a pizza; they're also fans of the place. (They are both locals.) We ordered a small pizza with half pepperoni and half onions. Unfortunately, after waiting the typical 20 minutes, they got the order wrong. Instead of onions, they added mushrooms. My brother went up to the counter to report the topping error. They were so amenable to making things right, they agreed to add the onions. In addition, they offered him two complimentary Orange Crush sodas. The pizza was great as usual, and we all enjoyed the experience. For the first time, they started accepting credit cards, with a 15% fee. (I had already taken out some cash to pay for the pizza, since they previously had a cash-only policy. Now it's more convenient.) It's not a fancy place, but they have both counter and booth seating.

It's on a dilapidated brick road that you essentially have to drive up at a crawl speed to prevent your car from rattling a part, and there's rarely parking. HOWEVER, somehow, this adds to the charm. The journey makes the reward that much better, I suppose. When you enter the pizzeria, it feels like how a pizzeria should. It's small and noisy, and the smells are overpowering. The staff is too busy for small talk. They're making dough (see what I did there?). I love it. The sauce is sweet, which isn't how I typically want a pizza sauce to taste, but it's also what makes their pizza so unique. You won't find another pizza that tastes like this. We were told there would be a wait, but our pizza was ready right when they said it would be. The staff was also extremely friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Parking was a little tricky because of the location, but it was definitely worth it! The standout feature of this pizza for me was the flavor of the cheese (especially when paired with onions) that combination was easily my favorite part. They use a very generous, thick layer of cheese, which creates a rich and indulgent pizza. The cheese is quite oily and can slide off the crust, so personally the amount of cheese and oil was a little heavier than my usual preference. However, the chewy crust holds up well to the toppings, and there was still something really addictive about the overall flavor and texture of that cheese. One thing that surprised me was how good it was the next day when eaten cold. I actually prefer this pizza cold. The cheese and onions complemented each other even more, and the pizza felt a little less oily while allowing the flavors to shine even more. Overall, this is definitely a top-tier pizza place in the area. If you enjoy a flavorful, cheesy pizza with a great chewy crust, I would absolutely recommend giving it a try!
