My boyfriend and I were so shocked! After waiting to be seated for 10 minutes I walked into the bar area and asked the bartender to get the hostess. A few minutes later she runs to the desk and answers a call without saying boo. 5 more minutes pass and I try again, I find the "hostess" in the bar and let her know people have waited and left and we're still waiting. Our occasional visits always result in great meal choices and leftovers. Yes the breads and kicker condiments are good starters. My memorable choice's of Lasagna, Mama's Sunday Gravy, and Chicken Cacchitore, were over the top good. Great portions that we sometimes carried back home. Courteous staff with booth or outer seating separation while we dined. Good background music, not complaining about Sinatra, Dino, or the The Fab Four mix but suggest you do a fresh introduction of similar songsters, just to show you update once in a while. read more

I am VERY pleased to say that Mama has a new chef and updated menu! The number of selections has decreased, but that's okay because there are some new selections that are definitely worth trying! A Caprese style tomato-mozzarella-basil salad that had a lovely presentation, fresh ingredients, and very tasty Balsamic reduction dressing-nice! Mama's Gravy was a delicious with chunks of braised pot roast, carrots, celery in tomato-meat sauce over pasta. Chicken Evelyn was simply and yummy. It seems that the portions have grown to match most Italian eateries' three serving size. : ) Service was friendly and attentive. The entertainment in the bar is a nice addition. I don't do the video gaming, but it's probably a draw for the bar/lounge crowd. read more

First time ordering from here and I had the worst experience ever. They told me my food would be ready in 25 mins and I went almost an hour later and my food was sitting on the chairs by the waiting area ( mind you it's cold out and the door was being opened constantly). I checked to make sure my order was complete and it was missing my appetizer. I tell this to the host and she said she would go tell the kitchen. She basically went missing for a while and finally the manager comes and pulls me to the side to tell me, "what would you like for us to do?" He did it with an attitude and in a very sarcastic manner as if my complaint was not valid nor did he apologize. I explained to him that first of all my food shouldn't have been sitting there on the chair by the door especially when it wasn't complete. He replied, "well we're cooking your appetizer now" as if that made it any better. That's unacceptable. First of all my order should've been checked to make sure it was complete, second it should've been under a warmer until I arrived, and third of all I shouldn't have had to wait another 30 minutes for my appetizer to be ready while my food kept getting cold. Also, FYI they had a service charge that was added to my order that I was not made aware of nor was it posted anywhere by the register. We will definitely not be returning here and will make sure I tell my family and friends about this horrible experience there. read more

We have had many fine dinners here, although some of the choices are a bit salty. Their wine list is very nicely stocked with pleasant choices, and at very reasonable prices. But ----- Mama's has entertainment and parties in a hall that can be divided into 2 rooms. It has a dance floor. The dividing barrier is not acoustically effective, and there are also several openings in it, such that sound freely travels between the rooms. When both rooms have musical entertainment, the crossover is very disruptive to both groups of guests. To enjoy their entertainment over the intruding noise, both audio programs are gradually increased in volume to overcome the other. Result: by the end of the evening we have 2 rooms of patrons who leave angry and disgusted. Mama's is overdue to fix this intrusive noise problem. We would like very much to continue dining and dancing there, and supporting local talent as well. read more

It's a family friendly oriented Old style Italian restaurant situations near Midway airport direction. It's totally a south thing place with a neighborhood home feel and their customers seem comfortable and enjoying the food. We ordered calamari, house salad, and few old style Italian dishes. We had meat sauce ravioli with cheese filling, baked lasagna with meat sauce and chicken tetrazinna. It was all good and I would have to say if you're in the area and craving some Italian cuisine this place is worth the a shot. I haven't dined here for a number of years. The food was great back in the day (30+ yrs ago), but has really went downhill. Two weeks ago both my wife and I thought we'd have our dinner here. I opted for the salmon with lemon butter sauce and my wife had ordered the lasagna. I didn't care for the lemon butter sauce on that rotten salmon of mine and the end result was food poisoning later that evening. My wife's lasagna was okay, but needless to say we will never set foot in Mama Luigi's again. There are plenty of Italian restaurants, so choose wisely and stay away from this one. read more

This was my first time here last night and I was looking forward to it as I shared with others I was headed this restaurant. The outside is well lit with plenty of parking and the interior decor is very cozy as you'll get the impression it's a family style/old school Italian restaurant. Our waitress was amazing and very attentive to our needs. I would give her 5 stars overall! She came to the table with great info on their menu. The bruschetta in the jar was amazing and even available to take home as a buyable purchase. I went with the Eggplant Parmesan which was a good choice. It wasn't the best Eggplant Parm I've had but wasn't the worst. The accompanying marinara on it was very good with a sweet side to it. It also came with a side dish of pasta. Prior to that we ordered the Calamari fritti and had some minestrone Soup. The Calamari was a big miss as it was over fried and served on a bed of fried spinach. Yes I ate a portion of it because I was hungry but it was not tasty at all. I will say the portions are big here as you'll have plenty to take home. I may come back to try another dish if I'm in the area. read more

I have been going to Mama Luigi's for a long time. It's a great Italian restaurant! Also, it has been renovated a few years ago. This restaurant is located right by Toyota Park. It's good for a meal before a Chicago Fire game. Good location! The service was great! The food came fast, and the server was nice and friendly my relatives and myself. The server was an easy person to talk to. Also, with a party of 6, they gave us a room away from the regular tables. It was really nice! The food I had was really good. Me and my relatives tried the Calamari and the Trio Appetizer. The Trio Appetizer was made of mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms, and fried zucchini. They were really good. The chef did fry the food well. The Calamari was good as well. I had lasagna with Sausage Lentil soup. It had a good mix of broth and a lot of other ingredients. My lasagna was really good as well. It was a huge portion, and the sauce was great! I also had a cheesecake to take home. It was a great cheesecake! All in all, this is a great Italian restaurant. I will come back. read more

I wanted to make a reservation, but the woman who answered the phone placed my reservation on the wrong date. The dishes they said would be available are only available for parties over 30 people. I told my guests about the reservation and food options for nothing. The dining room I reserved just happened to be reserved to someone else on the same day and time. Plus, their website has been down for over a week, and no one answered the Facebook Messenger when I tried to tell them. It's the 21st Century, people! They need to fix their website and make that woman get her hearing checked. Plus, the banquet manager had all darn week to contact me, but he didn't. If you want to make reservations with someone with at least half a brain, go elsewhere. Their stupidity just cost them hundreds of dollars. read more

We love to come here! The lasagna with the Marinara sauce is the best I ever had! I can not get enough of the Marinara sauce, it is so good. The portions are supersized and always have enough for another meal! The Tomato Bruschetta that they give you with bread is always delicious. The Mama's Sangrias are wonderful ! We have always enjoyed our meals and the waitresses are excellent, very nice, fun, and speedy ! I recently ordered a catered order and you got so much food and is was all very good! My guests enjoyed it all and could not believe how generous the portions were. We are still eating the left overs and it is as good as the first day! We like to visit ML's for an extended family dinner every time we're in town. Good food, & really good service. Many of the portion sizes are HUGE, and even though the bruchetta is really salty, we can't seem to get enough of it. The salad is nothing special, but there's a long list of dressings to choose from. The menu is pretty extensive, so plan to spend a few minutes trying to choose. If you're looking for something smaller and closer to $10, there's not much to choose from, but there's plenty around $20. Thanks to the Yelp check-in special, we tried the fried calamari appetizer, and we were amazed at how good it was. It was hot & crispy on the outside, but perfectly tender on the inside. Too often calamari is tough & chewy, but this was some of the best we've had. The fried (not breaded) spinach was a cool garnish too. Definitely sign up or whatever to get on the mailing list. My father had the mailed coupon for a free entree & desert, so even though we were rediculously stuffed (& had a lot of leftovers), we tried the brownie ala mode (ice cream 'sandwich'), and it was definitely worth it. I was so full it hurt, but I couldn't stop until it was gone. Going to plan on saving room for this on the next visit. Most recently, I've had: The bbq ribs: good, but chicago's got better. The rigatone & sausage: HUGE and tasty, with just a nice bit of spicy in the sausage. The chicken parmesian(?) with rotini: great, juicy chicken breast, but I might prefer a different red sauce. read more
