Came in on Sunday night for an impromptu date night. Liked the leather, the Frank Sinatra music and food, level of service. Was excited to dine on second floor you get a nice breeze when the weather is nice. The bread offered is very tasty and they provide olive oil, Parmesan cheese as well. Went with an Arnold Palmer for a beverage. For my entree got the linguini carbonara. Comes in a rich, delicious cream sauce; with spinach, prosciutto and egg on top!! Requested some Parmesan+ crushed red pepper to accentuate the taste. Had plenty left over for my lunch next day. For dessert we split brownie sundae. It had me feeling like a kid again. read more

Happy Hour is M-R until 6. Victor was our bartender. We ordered 2 martinis and he asked which liquor we wanted. I've been there plenty of times during happy hour and I've never been asked that. We were going to order 2 more but someone asked about the specials. He told us the martinis we ordered were not a part of the special. Why wouldn't he tell us that?!? Then we got charged extra for the liquor we requested. The receipt we got literally says martinis $7. We ended up ordering 2 drinks off the special like we thought we had. We had to get his attention to order more drinks because he forgot when we told him earlier. It was 5:57 and we were trying to order before the special was over because he definitely would have charged full price. To make matters worse, Victor was extremely rude and unprofessional. This was my first time going and it was amazing! I had the cheese and basil ravioli and my fiancé had the chicken oreganato. Both were delicious, so flavorful. We sat on the rooftop, very romantic. I've been a regular here for about a year and it used to be one of my go-to spots, but lately the quality has really slipped. My last visit was the worst -- the salmon came out soggy, poorly prepared, and honestly tasted like old pieces thrown together. Both of my recent visits were around 8:40-9:00 p.m. (they close at 10), and both times the staff reminded us of closing right away. The whole vibe felt rushed, and the food reflected it. I get that it's late, but if the quality of the food is going to drop off that much, then maybe reconsider taking tables that close to closing I know this place can do better, but the last few experiences were a letdown. read more

My family ordered 4 entrees for take out, and halfway through my linguini & clam, I twirled up a big bite but luckily stopped myself after noticing a large ROCK was entwined in the linguini. At this point, we all pushed our plates away. We made a call to the restaurant only to be told, "Well, it's common that rocks get into seafood dishes." Seeing that this ruined everyone's food / experience, we returned to the restaurant to request a full refund and were unkindly greeted by a waiter, Anthony, who offered zero sympathy for the dangerous dish that was prepared in their kitchen. Furthermore, he denied our request to speak with a manager because there was NO manager staffed that night. Unfortunately for him and Franconello's, he openly admitted to violating the Chicago Department of Public Health's guidelines (Below), which requires all food establishments to have a manager on site with the necessary food safety certificates during operating hours. I bet Nello rolled over in his grave after this. As a Beverly family and longtime patrons of Franconello's, this restaurant will never get our business again. read more

This was my first time there and it's sooo welcoming the staff is so sweet and everything was made fresh. Ingredients are the freshest! Even the Pepsi was that restaurant quality I've been missing. I wish the type of gluten free pasta was specified as Alfredo don't really match well with Penne pasta to me. My dad had sausage ravioli every bite tastes like it came from a fresh garden. Place looks nice both inside & out so that was a pleasant beginning. When ordering, I pointed at and said what I wanted from the menu. The waiter (Victor F) asked what kind of 2 sauces I wanted on the pasta and didn't realize there was a choice. So I picked one and the pasta came with no sausage and no spinach. That was the reason I ordered the type of pasta I did. I was disappointed with the dinner. The waiter had to be waved down each time we needed something and then he would run away instead of seeing if anyone else needed anything so then we needed to again wave him down. Please be aware when ordering drinks and your sever as if you would like a specific alcohol with your drink it's an up charge...example I ordered a lemon drop and was asked what was my preference as far as Tito's, kettle one etc. I was charged for the actual drink plus the vodka. I did not expect to find a super yummy and authentic Italian restaurant on the south side. So I'm happy to have found one! I've been going for a few years now for Christmas Eve (with the exception of when the dining was closed). This past year it wasn't as amazing but not bad. I'm glad we got there earlier because others were waiting like 40 minutes or so for their food. It's a small but mighty kitchen. Little things was the chicken piccata didn't have that many capers and it kinda looked like peas were there instead of capers. The shrimp divolo had a good spice. They had a special sign in the front and I was able to order off it. So I got their special fettuccine. It was more wet than creamy so I'd prob avoid getting it. It's a staple to go here every Xmas eve so I'll probably keep going because well of course there are kinks when the dining has been closed and a holiday hits. This was my second time visiting and I was so impressed with the Bartender. I think her name is MARCIA. She went out of her way to make our party feel at home. She prepares the most delicious blue cheese olives to complement my dirty martini. Service with a smile. All the specials we tried were on point and perfectly cooked, most notably, the blackened white fish. Great vibe in the lounge. It's almost like being at home. So this is a nice place to grab a cocktail with friends and enjoy an old school Italian meal, but only if you're otherwise in the area. I'd describe this establishment as a "neighborhood spot," not destination restaurant. The star attraction was Marcia M -- the hostess who doubled as a bartender who made outstanding chocolate martini! The BBQ chicken flatbread was okay, but nothing exceptional, and the fried calamari was too oily and over seasoned. The shrimp alla casa was tasty as was the cannoli dip. The ambiance is the real drawback here: very very dated decor and a room that simply lacked energy including an uninspiring wait staff that lacked enthusiasm. I wish that I could write a more positive review but to be completely honest three (3) stars is as generous as I can be. read more

I visited Franconello's for the first time for a friend's birthday. I've been visiting the Beverly area my entire life and have never felt compelled to eat here for whatever reason. I'm not big on pasta, and if I do have it, I prefer to go to near the University Village area. But my little bro wanted to eat here, so I took one for the team. We sat upstairs, which was amazing. The ambiance of the rooftop area is very nice. Our server was also very, very nice. I don't recall his name, but he was a very friendly Latino guy. He was attentive and helpful in terms of offering suggestions. Unfortunately, for me, the food left something to be desired. I ordered the chicken piccata, which was just okay. I didn't care for the sauce, and the chicken tasted like rubber. Honestly, it seemed like it came out of a bag in the freezer. I also wanted broccoli, but the restaurant was out of it (??) so i ordered the roasted potatoes. Those were pretty good. But now to do you run out of broccoli? My sister had the chicken Caesar salad, which she thought was just okay as well. She didn't care for the dressing so she didn't eat much of it. I tried the salad as well and didn't like the dressing either. My godfather had the salmon, which he enjoyed, and I can't recall what my brother ordered. He loved it, though. My other friend loved his food, too. He had a dessert that he loved as well. The staff sang happy birthday to him which was cool. We ordered drinks and appetizers, too, so the bill ended up being over $200. The prices were fairly reasonable, though. Overall, I'd say the experience was just okay. Great Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy... We ordered the Baked Clams and Beet Salad which comes with mixed greens, goat cheese, and caramelized walnuts for appetizers Chicken Rice in a light Tomato based soup was complimentary. It was a okay. The rice was undercooked however the chicken in it was nice pieces and good. For Dinner we ordered the beef medallions special with spinach, Mahi Mahi with a corn salsa mix with vegetables special and the roasted salmon picatta. We shared everything so we can sample each dish. The beef medallions was delicious! The medallions were nice big portions. I was surprised how much meat we got. The flavor was outstanding. I literally cut the meat with a butter knife. One of the best medallions I have ever tried in a restaurant. I highly recommend this dish. The Mahi Mahi was good, it needed a little more seasoning. The corn salsa had a little kick but it was really good. The salmon was very good. Perfectly good and had a nice flavor. Service was great too. Very attentive. My glass of water never went empty. Went with some buddies of mine and we all had an excellent meal here. Service was on point, our server checked up on us throughout the meal and made sure our beverages were always filled. Started with bruschetta and their Caesar salads for two which were actually enough for 3. Both of them were delicious with the bruschetta really hitting it out of the ball park. The combination of tomatoes, onion & balsamic was delicious, you could tasted the freshness of the ingredients in every bite. For my main course I had the bowtie pasta which came with spinach, fresh mozzarella, basil, tomatoes, and Italian sausage. This is a dish I would get again and again. My friends got the pasta carbonara and the chicken Marsala and they both said their meals were delicious. We were too stuffed for dessert, but if I'm ever in the Chicago area again I wouldn't hesitate to return here. read more

Franconello's has been around for years. It's one of those places that you seemingly drive past all the time, telling yourself that you need to go there more often, but then don't... and not for any specific reason, but it just slips your mind, and you figure it will always be there. I got together with a couple of coworkers recently, and when our go-to spot for a delicious dinner decided to suddenly close on Tuesday evenings over the summer, we were without a home. One of us suggested Italian food, and I suddenly remembered Franconello's - even though it had at least 20 years since I had been there. The restaurant itself is a very cool space, and has a great kind of Italian Supper Club vibe. We were seated on the roof by request and promptly greeted by our food server. This place has such a great atmosphere, that you actually get excited for the Italian deliciousness you're about to consume. Unfortunately, we were all a bit underwhelmed with the actual food itself, but I'll get to that soon. We were given some delicious warm, crusty bread which was accompanied by the "Chicago Standard" grated parm and EVO. Funny because, through my travels, I've discovered that this isn't a thing everywhere?!?! Anyway, things were looking up. We ordered a nice bottle of cabernet from Napa, which had a very attractive price point, and dove into the extensive menu. Our server also gave us a small sheet of paper with some specials to peruse. The menu featured everything you would expect at a nicer Italian spot, so we decided to split the Franconello Chopped Salad - which our server told us was big enough to share. It was definitely big enough, but featured WAY more of the mixed greens and carrots than it did the olives, tomatoes and blue cheese. Again, it tasted fine, but it was mostly lettuce, carrots and vinaigrette. There were three of us, and two of us ordered of the specials card. I got the Chicken Saltimbocca on a bed of spinach, and my two coworkers got Linguini with Clams and Fusilli with Sun-dried Tomato Cream Sauce topped with Prosciutto - also on special. Again, the portions were large, but some things were just off?!? The Linguini and Clams (white sauce) was fine, but lacked a lot of flavor. He ended up asking for salt and it definitely needed it. The clams were okay as well, but he commented that he had better. Now my Chicken Saltimbocca was good, but nothing groundbreaking. They gave me two big pieces of chicken so it was a lot, but it was supposed to be served on a bed of spinach, but there wasn't much spinach on the plate. Again, it was good - but not great. Finally my other coworker said her Fusilli dish was definitely not what she expected. Again, she got a lot of fusilli, but expected the sun-dried tomato cream sauce to be more than an Alfredo sauce with a few sundried tomatoes sprinkled on top. She said she thought the sauce would've incorporated the tomatoes into the sauce. Also it was supposed to be topped with prosciutto, but what she got seemed to be pasta with Alfredo sauce topped with bacon bits. Little bits of crunchy bacon combined with a thick white sauce smothering large, doughy pasta was just not what was described on the card. Again, the taste was fine, but she only ate maybe a third of the dish and was ready to be done. So, in summary, our service was great. The place definitely looks the part of an old school, Italian dinner spot, but the food just fell short. read more

The glass of wine I had was clearly a bottle that had been opened and sitting for days. It tasted bitter. I knew this was a bad sign. The flat bread was soggy, and the presentation was less than appetizing. You could see that the shredded mozzarella cheese had not melted, and the bottom was soggy. As if this wasn't enough, our dinner took almost 45 min to come out after we ordered our appetizer. Our dinners were Flavorless and the rigatoni pasta was undercooked. Franconello's was a huge disappointment for a Father's Day dinner. We arrived around 6pm and walked out at 8pm after the slowest service my family has ever experienced. We placed our drink and dinner order right away but then proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait for our drinks. We had to ask the waitress we were still waiting on drinks (it had been 30 minutes) and she walked away without saying anything. She said our meals came with soup, which she brought out 2 of the 3 soups and never came back with the third. When my Mom asked about the soup missing, she said she only had written two down. She finally came out 10 minutes later with the cup of soup. We waited for awhile for our food and when it finally came out the waitress was flipping through her order sheets to figure out which meal went to which customer. We finally just told her what we ordered and got our food. The food was good but that was the only positive experience of the night. We noticed many tables were also having issues of receiving their checks, being forgotten and ignored. The bus staff and hostess really stepped up to help get things back on track, which we appreciated and they were very apologetic, even though they were not to be blamed for the chaotic service. It took forever for our table to be cleared so we decided it wasn't even worth it to have dessert. We're glad we didn't order anything after the meal as it took another 20 - 25 minutes to receive our check. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but after a year of ordering carry out, only to receive the wrong meals, and last night's debacle, I'm done coming here. read more

Since moving to the neighborhood several years back we have enjoyed going here. The food is always good and the staff does a great job of making you feel welcomed. The decor is a throw back. It's dimly lit with a very romantic feel. Before the pandemic the place would be packed with large families and couples alike. Unfortunately with the pandemic we were unable to dine in so we chose takeout. As always the food was delicious but I have to admit we missed the vibe from being in the restaurant. I'm a bread freak so I missed dipping the warm bread in the olive oil at the table. We can't wait to go back and enjoy this neighborhood gem. read more

I love this restaurant. It's got that classic, nostalgic vibe, delicious food and wonderful service. The atmosphere makes you feel like Sinatra, Dean and Sammy would've definitely stopped in here. Their music is also playing through the sound system. My favorite dish to get is the chicken Franconello. It's tender, savory and well seasoned. I also usually have my lemon drop martinis while I'm there. They make them perfectly every time. It's a really lovely place for lunch or dinner. read more
