There are neon signs everywhere and they play great classic rock music. Our waitress was fantastic ... and older woman whose name should be 'Flo' and was right on the ball. The food is bar food ... Wisconsin comfort food. I had the cheese curds with dipping sauce, which were really good. I have never had fried cheese curds before so I have nothing to compare them to but I thought they were yummy. I had the BBQ brat with sauerkraut and German potato salad. All fantastic ... maybe a little overpriced for what you get ... but really good. I didn't necessarily leave feeling full for $20 but enjoyed my food. They have craft beer on draft from Wisconsin and Illinois. There is also a giant shop attached with local beer, local food products, apparel and of course a really long case full of Wisconsin cheese. Again ... overpriced but it saved me a stop at the Cheese Castle nearby. Overall, this place is the perfect stop off the highway, right in between Chicago and Milwaukee. There aren't many restaurant options in the area, and Brat Stop looked like the most appealing choice, so we went in with fairly modest expectations. The food tasted pretty much exactly how it looked--simple, casual, and heavily focused on fried options. I had to try the fried cheese as a tourist, and they also had a solid beer selection. Our server was incredibly sweet, and the restaurant seemed to be filled with locals enjoying a laid-back meal. Overall, I'd give it a 3/5. The one and only... The World Famous Brat Stop, making Wisconsin Legendary since 1961. I've been here several times, mostly as a child with my family, but this is my first real review. I remember stopping here on the way home from somewhere, or a break from the outlet malls in Kenosha, and the place seems frozen in time. I always order the same thing--the cheddarwurst with German potato salad and red cabbage. It tastes the same -- juicy brat with that snap and cheese. I probably used to get fries (you can get french fries, sweet potato fries, coleslaw, baked potato????) and these days I don't eat the whole bun. This place is huge, and they easily accommodated our party of six. This was after Christmas and the restaurant was packed with families, groups, people at the bar. Our food came out fairly quickly -- cheese curds, brats, onion rings, a Greek freak salad, burger, as well as some beer and cider. Portions are hearty, tasty. I wouldn't call this gourmet food, just good simple food. The atmosphere is loud and the staff is friendly. Maybe the furnishings could use some updating, but I guess this is its rugged charm. When the order is for brats and beer, no need to get fancy. One of our party was disappointed that they ran out of ice cream and they couldn't order a milkshake. I have always heard about this place, but had never been! I came with 3 other people. This is a large place and when we went, it was busy. Still, I believe that service should be quicker than it was. We had to wait quite a while to even get our drinks. Our server was friendly, but I just would've liked service to be quicker as we were getting something to eat after a long day skiing. I got the jalapeno cheddar brat, which came with your choice of potato and another side. I got the baked potato and pickled cabbage. Both were nothing special but good. The brat was great! I had to make a stop in Pleasant Prairie around lunch time and wanted to try someplace I couldn't get the Milwaukee area. Brat Stop is a local establishment that's close to the highway and looked like something I could easily eat in the car, so I called in and ordered to go of a two brat plate with fries. I asked for a smoked garlic brat and a cheddarwurst, but I believe they gave me a Cajun brat instead of the cheddarwurst based on the flavor of the second one. I still ate it because I didn't dislike it and I didn't feel like going back to have them replace it, but if it was Cajun it wasn't spicy enough for how I like Cajun food. The smoked garlic brat was great and worth the $1 upcharge. I appreciate that the fries were battered and had plenty of crispy pieces in the box. Yes, I would stop again because the smoked garlic brat and fries were excellent, but I'm knocking off a star from this review for them screwing up my order. read more

Brat Stop is amazing and a must stop restaurant if you're in Kenosha. The restaurant is massive, there is plenty of table/booth seating/a huge bar/an upstairs and a patio outside with what appeared to be a volleyball court. Plenty of fun stuff like pinball machines and lottery machines as well as a stage for when they have concerts. In addition to all that, they have a beer/cheese/gift shop in the restaurant as well. They have the best cheese curds that you will ever have - highly recommend you order them as a side or appetizer. They're known for their brats, but if that's not your thing they have plenty of other great food for you including pizza, wings, burgers and more. Service is always friendly every time I go. Visited this restaurant twice during my stay and the first time was okay but the second time was amazing! The waitress was super attentive and remembered our drink/orders. This was my first time trying bratwurst and I was surprised at how tasty the dish is! I would recommend the Smokinn garlic bratwurst. Very tasty with a good snap. I actually wish I bought 2! Weiners and Cheese are usually a bad mix, but not here at the Brat Stop! Brat in this case is short for Bratwurst, and they have a nice selection. I figured I'd try the Sausage Party (actual name) which was 1/4 of 7 different types of sausages. I felt like a Cannibalistic Snow White eating a part of each Dwarf. I wish the sausages in the sampler were labeled as I was only 100% sure on the Jalapeño Cheddar sausage, which was spicy! I think I had the garlic one identified too, but it could have been the cajun one. I'm not a sausage sommelier (yet) so apologies for not being able to tell. As much as I loved the Brats (and Bratz, but that's a different story), I will say the cheese takes the blue ribbon! I had two versions in the form of Fried Curds and Beer Cheese Soup. Both were excellent in completely different ways. I'd give the Soup the golden star as this liquid gold had the aroma of beer wafting up with each delicious spoonful. I'd probably get some pretzel bites or something which would go nicely with this. The curds were awesome and I just dipped in their golden brown mustard! Nothing special needed. There's also a store with some T-Shirts to remember your trip. Some display some good ol' ribaldry, but it's all good cheesy fun. It's right off the highway if you're traveling between Milwaukee and Chicago (I don't remember which highway). But plop it into your GPS and stop! This is a must stop location in WI just over the boarder from IL. It is famous for its cheese curds, their brats, and their concerts! It is an eclectic location that has a bit of everything but they also have live music concerts that can get some pretty big names in here. I have been to several concerts here; the space is smaller and can really ROCK! The food is outstanding WI cuisine... you just can't go wrong with the different options. They also offer a pretty extensive beer and drink menu. This is not for the feint of heart, no vegans here, and you better be ready to party hardy at night time. This is a great location to cut loose, have some good comfort food, that will do nothing for your health, and listen to some choice music! If you're anywhere near this location I highly recommend stopping... it is a true slice of Americana that you just have to experience for yourself. read more

We had just come from the Mars Cheese Castle and stopped here at my friend's recommendation. We had the fried cheese curds (marinara and ranch as dipping sauces) and the two brat plate with a Polish and original sausages. For sides we had the German potato salad and the coleslaw. It was so much food for a very reasonable price. The standout was the Polish sausage...delicious! I don't have German potato salad very often and I was reminded of the reasons why when I had this. I don't want to say it was bad, it just wasn't my taste. We visited during an off hour and didn't have any trouble getting seated right away. Also, the place appeared MASSIVE on the inside. We met some friends at Brat Stop at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. We didn't have to wait for a table; we were seated near the stage. Four adults and two adult teens - we ordered Cheese Curds and Mini Italian Beef's as an appetizer. The Mini Italian Beef's were delicious. If I ever make it back to Brat Stop, I am ordering them as my meal. Both my kids ordered the chicken strips - one added fries the other added tots. My husband ordered the 2 Brat Plate, I had the Gobbler wrap with tots. Our friends ordered the Tony Sub and a burger. I also ordered a cheese soup to take home. My son, husband and our friends really enjoyed their meals. Unfortunately, my daughter gets migraines/seizures from flashing lights (there are flashing lights in the stage area) so we ended up having to sit in the car (we had our food boxed up). I had to run in and ask for a bag a few times (if you know, you know); the girl at the hostess stand was SUPER nice. We did eat our food the next day and it was very good. The fried cheese curds are made with white, or undyed, cheddar and are breaded just enough to give texture and still allow the cheese to be highlighted. I also got a decent cheese pull from one of the bigger curds. I liked the ranch and marinara. Not among the best I've had but pretty good, and I would get them again. The brat comes from Usingers, and it was great. I liked the seasoning Usingers uses. The bun that the brat was served on was probably the best sausage bun I've ever had. I should have asked which bakery made them. It was fresh and soft with a slight crisp, and it was perfectly sized for the brat to bun ratio. The fries were forgettable. Frozen battered (an unfortunate treatment of potatoes to make fries crispy) and bland fries. I should have tried the tater tots instead. An interesting spot which makes it a place to stop and try at least once! The outside doesn't look like much, but the inside is huge, with tons of seating on two floors. There is huge bar with lots of on-tap options, along with a full bar. Multiple screens make this a good spot to watch a game, plus there is video gambling, pinball and other games. The Brat Stop offers live music, trivia night, moonshine tastings, volleyball, golf and pinball leagues, cheese shop, banquet hall, take out menu and a variety of events that serve and benefit the community. While this is not a fancy establishment by any stretch, in fact it's a bit outdated, it is a fun atmosphere and family friendly. We stopped in on a Sunday night, and it was not busy at all. We opted to sit at the bar, and while it took a minute to be noticed, when we were the service was good. My husband and I both ordered the "Smoooookin'" brat. He had his with tots and coleslaw and I ordered fries and sauerkraut. The brats were very good, with a nice char, both the tots and fries were hot and crispy, the coleslaw had a great consistency and good flavor, and the saurekraut was truly the best I've ever had. When I asked our server about it, commenting that it didn't taste like it came out of a jar, she told me that the restaurant orders their kraut but finishes it in house. This is most likely why it was crisp and not soggy and tangy but not sour. If you're passing through, The Brat Stop is a conveniently easy-on/easy-off place to grab a beer and a brat.
