Food was really good, prices were more than reasonable. Service was quick and the atmosphere was very quiet around lunch. I liked it, very laid back vibe to it and the insides nice.

OMG! What a great place. We were looking for a Polish restaurant and this place showed up. Never tried Czech food but sure glad we tried this place. Appetizers were the potato pancakes and fried cheese/ French fries. Dinner was pork steak, roast beef, duck, and salmon and each entree was great. We had some Czech beer and shots to wash it all down. So full and so satisfied. Our waitress was very nice. It's a bit far from home but we need to find our way back.

Very tasty, service at the highest level. Our waiter Tatyana made sure that we liked everything. Very good submission. We will definitely come back.

    Nicer seating area for dinner.

I just love these family restaurants. So authentic and made with lots of love. This is an easy Uber from O'Hare if you have a long layover. Serious comfort food so expect lots of cream. The goulash did not disappoint and was served with four massive homemade dumplings that looked like four large slices of dense bread. It paired well with the gravy. My mushroom soup was served with a poached egg which was a new experience. Lots of lunch guests just sit at the bar for best service. Lots of table options too. You'll ever find a place like this in suburbia. A real treat.

    Cheers!

I am from Czech Republic and live in US for a while now. Thanks to Cafe Prague me and my friends were able to enjoy our traditional food and beer! Everything was great. Just like our grandma's! The place is clean and people there are very welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommended!

Food was wonderful! Try the beef cheeks and topinky. Marzena was a wonderful waitress. She explained everything to us and had great suggestions. 5 star service and food!

Finally, summer in Chicago has arrived. Rosa J., Daddy J., and Mama J. were checking out the Montclare neighborhood on the western boarder of the city. I "yelped" Cafe Prague ahead of time. Cafe Prague is located near the Belmont and Rutherford. What an Oasis! The lady servers there were absolutely gorgeous! When I asked for recommendations, one of the beautiful young ladies quickly explained some of the Czech staples. In the ends, Mama J. went with the traditional halusky (a noodle-based dish with bacons and sour cream); Daddy J. picked beef goulash; I chose the grilled filet mignon. The beef goulash also came with a choice of bread dumplings. While I wasn't crazy about the taste of bread dumplings (semi-bland and doughy), the beef goulash was tender and filling. If you typically like any western-style comfort food, beef goulash would potentially be a great belly-warmer when the harsh Chi-town winter season comes around. Although the traditional halusky was listed as an "appetizer" on the menu, whoever with a small appetite should be fine with this dish alone. The combination of the potato noddles, fried bacons, and sour cream were quite delicious. However, I know many of you aren't the fan of sour cream in any shape or form. You might want to skip this one if you dislike anything with an acidic flavor. On the other hand, my grilled filet mignon was cooked appropriately according to what I requested (medium). It was juicy, with a plenty of sauce to keep the meat moist. With one (1) starter and two (2) entrees, our total came to $41.90. I thought the price was fair for the neighborhood standard. Cafe Prague also has a small, yet well-decorated patio facing Belmont Ave. They also have a separate area for bar patrons. We saw a Czech-style birthday party going on at the adjacent table. As an immigrant myself, it's always delightful to find a place to celebrate and make myself at home in a foreign country. This afternoon I got to know a little bit about the Central Europe, and walked out the restaurant with a full stomach.

    Pilsner $3 special

Wasn't the friendliest staff but it was a unique restaurant and I have never seen anything like it. Eastern European influence brings such inspirational dishes. I was on to there for a snack so I got a $3 pilsner (which was a daily special) and their signature Prague wings (I got half off as the daily special as well) they were delicious. The sauce they used has many layers of flavors and a depth that I couldn't quite pinpoint. This was an enjoyable snack and I very well might be back again when in Chicago.

A wonderful experience this afternoon. Had a chance to chat with the manager, and enjoyed myself a Czechvar beer. There entire staff was extremely friendly, and the quality of the place is one of the best in the area. Highly recommend!

    The appetizer. Was delicious!

The Berghoff has more to offer other than its ideal location.  The restaurant is the oldest restaurant in Chicago, but it is maintained really well, clean and beautiful.  When we visited, it was festively decorated for St. Patrick's Day. They serve delicious authentic German fare.  As we were in a hurry, each of us just ordered a drink and an entrée.  Berghoff must have tons of experience serving food for show goers, as the staff were efficient and the food came out quickly. Daughter had a In Cold Blood ($13) and a Reuben Sandwich ($21.95), hand-carved corned beef (or turkey), Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, on house-made rye.  She ordered it without Thousand Island dressing which was included in the menu.  Hubby and I each ordered a Wiener Schnitzel ($27.95 each), pan-fried breaded veal cutlet, creamed spinach, house-made spätzle.  He had a Root Beer ($3.6) and I had an Iced Tea ($3.4).  The Wiener Schnitzel was piping hot, nicely cooked with a crispy light batter and rather tender veal.  It even brought back good memories from our respective trips in Germany and Austria. I enjoyed the house-made spätzle a lot. Daughter liked her Reuben Sandwich too. There is a 3.5% surcharge to every check, as specified in their website. Good thing that it was not a surprise for us. Actually, the service stood out the most this time.  When we were caught in very slow traffic in the expressway on our way to the restaurant, I called The Berghoff and spoke to Brian on the phone, and told him we would be 15 minutes late.  He was very kind, assured we would have our table, and thanked me for telling him.  When we finally arrived 25 minutes late, Brian was still so welcoming, cheerful, and friendly.  As he was leading us into the dining area, he let us choose either a booth or a table.  Fortunately, it was still early for dinner, around 5:30 pm, there were still a few tables available.  When we were eating, the restaurant became packed. Our server, Isaiah, offered flawless service too.  He's also very kind, friendly, and professional.  I informed him that we only had an hour before we needed to leave for the show.  He assured us that he would make sure we leave on time, and he delivered his promise.  Actually, it only took us about 52 minutes from sitting down to finish!  Our dining experience at The Berghoff was delightful and perfect!

The sauerkraut tasted "off," and the cabbage rolls were served in a watery broth instead of the traditional tomato-based sauce. Everything felt generic and uninspired. Not a single pierogi was available, which was especially disappointing. Our server, Agnieszka, provided no real table service. Our water pitcher was never refilled, no extra napkins were offered, and when I asked for sour cream, I was told to get it myself from the buffet. From the moment we sat down, she rushed us repeatedly, asking multiple times if we were ready for drinks. She even cleared plates while my uncle was still eating she took his plate while he still had sausage on it he was eating. The bill came to $225. We paid more than half in cash and the remainder by card. When she came to collect the cash, I politely asked to count it together before she took it. She responded assertively, "No, I am going to count the money with you. This is how we are going to do it." Her count was incorrect, so I said, "Now I am going to count the money with you," and my count was correct. After paying, we remained seated for about 15 minutes. She then came over and told us they needed the table for people with reservations. She said to leave without saying that we had to leave. We were all stunned! While there were a few people waiting, there were also several open tables. We were essentially pushed out so the table could be turned over. Overall, the waitress was rude, authoritative, impersonal, unprofessional, and completely out of line. Everyone working there appeared miserable. We will never return. As a family, we should have left our childhood memories untouched, they were good ones. Tonight's experience was horrible. If you're looking for a pleasant environment, do not go here.
