My sister wanted to go clubbing on one of the nights of her bachelorette party weekend in Chicago. I saw that Joy District was down the street from our hotel, so I reached out to their events team for a table reservation. Edwin, Joy District's Private Events Director, was awesome to worth with. I appreciated how he was communicative, transparent, and quick to respond via email. In addition to his great customer service, the $1000 table minimum was very tempting especially with it being Lollapalooza weekend. I had inquired about a table at another popular club, but it was 4 grand just because of Lolla. When we checked in at the club, one of the guys at the door rudely said, "You're late." I decided to not waste my time chatting with this guy and diverted my attention to someone else who actually was friendlier and helped get us checked in. Weird layout at Joy District club for VIP sections. They're not exactly private. For example, when we arrived we shared a booth with a group of like 30 people. So our bachelorette party group of 10 girls had to stake our claim for space in that cramped section. I would say that the girls had fun overall. Most importantly, the bride was having a blast. The DJs were playing a mix of hip hop from my clubbing days (2008 into the 2010s), and special thanks to our server who was a girl's girl. She checked on us frequently and helped us protect our space and bottle. That said, this is where the 2-star rating comes in... I am a millennial, so I'm a club veteran. These gen z'ers have no respect for club etiquette! It's one thing to be invited to someone's table, which then permits you to drink their alcohol. Never would I EVER try to steal from someone's bottle at their VIP table. This happened twice to us. I literally blocked a guy trying to grab our bottle of Casa Azul tequila and firmly said, "No." Go back to your cheap ass tequila on your side of the booth. The second time, a girl from the table next to us had the audacity to pick up our bottle and pour a shot in her cup of ice. My best friend caught her red handed, and the girl gave us the cup. Both individuals appeared to be in their early 20s, and honestly Gen Z was the vast majority of the crowd. I personally felt like I couldn't really enjoy myself because I had to keep an eye on our bottles from thirsty vultures. read more

This place was hands-down one of the worst experiences I've had at any bar. It felt less like a sports bar and more like some kind of detention center. My friends and I showed up just trying to watch the game, and right away we're getting aggressively patted down like criminals. Completely unnecessary and way over the top. We stayed inside for hours, bought drinks, watched the game, and didn't cause a single problem. At one point I stepped outside for literally a minute to smoke, and when I came back, one of the security guards immediately started acting hostile. Another door guy even told him, "He was already inside," and he still ignored him. That tells you everything you need to know. Instead of doing his job professionally, this guy got in my face screaming "Move, move, move!" and physically pushing me like he was trying to provoke something. It was pure ego and completely uncalled for. I stayed calm and tried to explain I had already been inside for hours, but he clearly wasn't interested in listening. He was more focused on flexing authority than actually handling the situation correctly. I ended up going around to another entrance, and a different staff member let me in without any issue, which just proves the first guy was completely out of line. At that point, we grabbed our things and left. No one is going to spend their money somewhere they're treated with that level of disrespect. Security like that doesn't make a place feel safe--it makes it feel hostile, unprofessional, and not worth coming back to. We won't be returning. read more

This place is live! I'm not sure what time we got there, but it doesn't get full until 11pm-midnight. No idea what time they close. I'm surprised how nice the door guy was. He let us up to the rooftop even though we had no tickets for that and it was a private event. The rooftop has a seated area with disco balls on a flower wall when you walk out, and illuminated wings like that restaurant in Tulum, Mexico. It was cool. DJ was good. I like that people were actually dancing. I danced until I couldn't deal with my heels and switched to flats. Definitely going back. Love the wall art/decor. Great location to bar hop. Joy District is always a really great night out! We came to see a DJ set and tickets were really cheap + included your first drink, so it was a no-brainer. Bouncers, security, and bartenders were fine - not rude or anything but also not spectacular. There are other spots in the neighborhood with way more welcoming staff, but I also didn't have a gripe with the staff. The best part of Joy is the rooftop. We were enjoying the view of the skyline, the vibes, and the really great tech house DJs that were playing up there. Unfortunately, the roof are closed before the headliner came on downstairs on the main dance floor, we were forced to listen to the opener who constantly failed to beat match (for those not familiar with DJ-ing, that is probably the very first thing you learn to do). The music choice was a little weird and the vibes were just not good. We ended up leaving at midnight because the crowd was a little young and rude, and the headliner still had not come out. We were ready to call it quits. It's unfortunate because it's a great stage/dance floor setup, super fun bottle service presentation (even as just bystanders), but the music and vibes were not it. That said, I typically like Joy District and again, the rooftop was the BEST, so I will still be back again soon! read more

Went for st Patrick's day weekend and Security inside is beyond unprofessional, and aggressive and disrespectful for no reason wouldn't recommend this bar to anyone, didn't have this experience at any other bar in the city during the river north bar crawl. Have had this experience multiple times here and they let people smoke weed blunts inside the building without care blowing smoke on everyone. Came in here after a musical downtown. After grabbing drinks in the area we stumbled across Joy District. Ended up heading inside because heard they have a great rooftop. Unfortunately we weren't able to see the rooftop because it was late...but ended up staying because the music was so good. Shout out to Ezell for telling us how fire the DJ and sound system was. Upon entering we headed to the second floor and grabbed drinks. Service was quick. We ended up hanging near VIP area, which got us close to the dance area but wasn't overwhelming. The crowd on a Thursday night was mixed. I would say mostly late 20s. That was fine for us but there were some mid 30 and early 40s inside. The DJ was so good. Never repeated a song. He also mixed up the genre: Hip Hop, Rap, Latin, Pop, R & B, Afropop and even Rock. It was a total vibe. Everyone was having a good time. Sound system was good. It wasn't overwhelmingly loud but you could feel the music. Oh...and then this guy comes out with an Acoustic Violin...let me tell you this hyped the crowd so much. I was just there for brunch and had a horrible experience. To start the table was dirty; the glasses were dirty, the bottle service was average below average. The server was OK, she was nice. The food was decent. There was no DJ, there was supposed to be a DJ. The restrooms were disgusting, no toilet paper, or towels They tried to charge us for a birthday shot that the server asked for us she said "let me get you a birthday shot" and she picked down julio 1947, and tried to charge us for it ($40 bucks). When we questioned the charge (no prices shown before), the bartender said each alcohol had its price ($14) then the added drink fee ($3) even though we never specified which whiskey or vodka cause we were ordering well drinks. The bartender shrugged and said these were normal prices for river north as if that means anything. Apparently they think it makes them the Bellagio or something. 3% Covid charge, THEN another 20% mandatory service charge. Then like a true scam the tax was charged on top of all of that. The drinks unsurprising sucked. We were there for an event that was being held there so just thought to order drinks while waiting and it was a huge mistake. I was exhausted after 90 mins of driving in traffic, but then when we came over saw their valet service and was like that's perfect and then we were greeted by the bouncer who was funny :) We headed upstairs for the rooftop event and were amazed at the decor and the openness the place had. Enough space for the groups and we were thinking great location for a 50-60 people event. Huge bar with a friendly bar tender is always a plus. This was an awesome space! I really enjoyed this rooftop! It gives me all the fun tiki, disco vibes yet still having the luxury of seeing big buildings around me! Yelp Elite had a fabulous rooftop party at this venue and boy oh boy was it fun! They had some fun frozen drinks that I will try next time. The machine didn't freeze them in time of the party. Next time I shall try that! I wish they prepared more food for the group so everyone can try something! I was only able to have a piece of flat bread which was delicious but didn't get to try anything else. Others in the group were hoping to try the sliders but they didn't have enough for everyone. This place is truly lame. The drinks are insanely expensive and the DJ on the rooftop was good but the dj on the actual dance floor (level 2) was so bad tonight (6/8) even though it's a SATURDAY. I bought tickets two of them and we waited in the rain for two hours, before I realized people were cutting in front of the entire line and the security guards just let them in. Went to Joy District for the first time yesterday for The Lesbian Social Club Event. I was so impressed with this venue!! The sound system was amazing, the lighting was ultra modern and suspended from the ceiling in a way I had never seen before where the lights bounce up and down with the music. A totally immersive sensory experience , a feast for the eyes and ears. Plenty of room to dance and extreme fun party vibes all day. The servers are gorgeous and we did not wait for a drink for more than 30 seconds. Water bottles were $7.50, but hot tip: the rooftop had free water! The valet guys were my hero. About 30 minutes into the event, my feet were killing me, so I asked the valet guys where my car was parked, so I could grab my flats. The valet king offered to take my heels to my car and grab my flats for me. Absolutely epic service. I tipped him generously for this. I will definitely be back with my friends! The only note I have is that the bathrooms were essentially destroyed by 5pm if they got that under control it would have gotten a 5 from me. I was lucky enough to carry some extra tissue in my purse if you catch my drift. read more

My friends and I came back recently for a "day party". The street level was open for seating with food and beverage purchase. I believe there was a minimum spend of $25 per person to hold the table -- no problem. The rooftop area was bottle service only with sections starting at $500. We just wanted something to do after brunch, so we headed to Joy District. The bouncers outside were nice to us, the music was elite this day, and which is what we enjoyed! Our server came over to us to get our drinks, but she was awful. They didn't have a cocktail menu, but said the bartenders can make whatever we wanted. For the most part everyone in my party got simple cocktails, and I got Prosecco. One friend ordered a cocktail, but the server brought it back as a shot... everytime we asked about something on the menu, she didn't know the answer to it, so she'd run off to the bar to get the answer and be gone for a while. My friends also ordered neat drinks and margaritas, but she charged them for top shelf without asking which liquor they wanted and messing up the check. It was honestly just a mess. There were also 2 fights that broke out in the middle of the floor. I think Joy District is for the just turned 21 crowd and people looking to flex. It's always something with this establishment and I don't have the desire to jump through hoops to spend my money to enjoy myself. Came here with a group of 20 people, and the servers were so accommodating with our reservation and giving us our own area to eat and drink. They had happy hour specials on drinks with $5 shots & rails, all of which tasted pretty decent for the price. We mainly got appetizers and drinks while there. The wings were flavorful, the fries were perfectly crisp, the nachos were amazing (except the amount of guac you get for the additional price was not worth it), and the elote dip was lovely. I was visiting Chicago on Halloween weekend, exploring the city alone, in great spirits because I had just accepted a job offer to move to this city, I wanted to get to know the area a bit better and happened to come across a bar crawl. Joys District was part of this bar crawl experience for the 7:00pm time slot, as I was approaching the entrance the bouncer literally yelled at me to "stand to the f**king side" and pointed towards the wall, I was taken aback from the sudden rudeness of the doorman and I asked him was the place at capacity or something and that I had a wristband as part of this bar crawl, his response was "stand the f*ck over there" pointing at the wall. I went and stood next to the wall for a few minutes and noticed other people walking inside, I assumed he knew them because he didn't even check their I'D's, another group of guys started going inside so I followed suit and he again proceeded to yell at me "I told you to stand the f*ck back!" he was causing a scene towards me and then he said "actually you're not even going the f*ck inside, have a good night" meanwhile the other group of guys he had let inside without ID checking turned around and snickered at me. I told him he needs to reevaluate who he is as a human being because this felt as a personal attack towards me for whatever reason he has going on in his mind. Luckily for him I am not living in Chicago as of yet or I would have returned in person to file a report to higher management. I want to state up front that this review has nothing to do with the actual performers at the AirOtic Soiree, they were great. So we bought 4 tickets through Fever for "AirOtic Soireé: a Cirque Style Cabaret Dinner Show". The tickets were for GA balcony seats and included 2 drinks, for a total of $61.18 / per person after taxes / fees. When we arrived at the show, we were told that in addition to the ticket cost, each person had to pay $12 in mandatory tips in order to use your two "free" drink tickets, for an extra $48 on top of the $244 we already spent on tickets. The show, while good, was absolutely NOT worth this price. After reading the reviews here I should have known they would try some nonsense, as almost every review mentions their shady pricing and charges, but we assumed since we bought the tickets in advance we would be fine. We will not be returning here. Oh, and on top of everything, the couches were crappy / worn, the floors were sticky, and everything felt just a *little* dirty. read more
