I've been to Joy District with friends before and this time we came for Brunch. It was Drag Brunch with bottomless mimosas. There were multiple performers and each performed at least 2-3 times and they were all very talented and stunning. I recognized a familiar face from other clubs, Mimi Marks, and they were celebrating a performer's birthday so the whole vibe was a party from start to end. We were surprised that hey had a giveaway and each person received a raffle ticket for a chance to win a 1/4 carat diamond! There were several groups attending, each celebrating something -- birthdays, graduations, and we actually even witnessed a proposal! The food was actually delicious! I tried the Chicken & Waffles and my friends had the Steak & Eggs. There were shots flowing for everyone in attendance and management was very friendly and welcoming too! 10/10 music, -1000/10 bottle service experience. Went bar hopping and desperately wanted to find a place with hip hop, and a security guard at another bar suggested Joy District. Upon entering around 10ish pm, it was great! Not too packed and they were playing the perfecttttt music we were looking for (hip hop, throwbacks, etc). There were a lot of empty tables, so we went to sit by one. The male employee told us since it's empty, we would be able to sit there and drink until someone buys the table. Of course we understand, that's really nice of them. A waitress/bottle service girl comes over and asks if we want to get champagne ($85) or tequila ($200). We already had drinks and mentioned what the male employee told us, but she still asked if we wanted a bottle and seemed annoyed. We had a party of 5 girls and two weren't really drinking, so we caved and opted for champagne so it wouldn't be awkward with the waitress. We drank a bit, danced, and wanted to check out what was upstairs. We purposely left some champagne in the bottle along with all of our coats at the table so we could come back to it afterwards. Went upstairs where they had even better music and larger area (recommend the upstairs for more club-vibes), then came back down to our table where our bottle was gone. When we asked about it, the security guard was really nice and said he'll try to figure something out. I guess he had told our waitress, so she came over and said they took it away because there was nothing left. We explained we deliberately left some so we could come back to it and reserve the area. Her response "umm well the bottle only fills 6 champagne glasses" ??? And....? Is that your excuse? If you wanna be technical, we have 5 people and you don't know how much we poured in the cups. Lame excuse and didn't help whatsoever. Another male employee said we could probably tip her $50 for another bottle and to keep the table (rather than paying the full $85 for a second bottle). Lol say it with me, you are T-R-I-P-P-I-N-G. We wouldn't have been as bothered about the bottle if the waitress didn't have such a crappy attitude with us all night. Been here on numerous occasions and usually a good time. Whether its during the cold months at the downstairs bar or warm, summer months you can count on a decent time here. Good for groups wanting to get after work drinks, stop in for a first drink on a date or just coming to hang out. Came here recently for a volunteer group that I am a part of and they let us have half of the rooftop for a helluva good time. the Kentucky bourbon tea drink was really good as Luciana behind the bar hooked it up. Ive had apps here before and they are good as well. The guac and chips and mozzarella sticks are pretty good. Not the biggest rooftop but still s decent one. Came for drag brunch with some friends (first Saturday of the month - check out their Instagram for deets!) and it was a blast!! Maybe the best one I've been to yet. The giveaways, so fun - we got a gift card and promptly spent it on a bottle of champagne. I also kept all the plastic glowy rings and hair clips as souvenirs! The mimosas were flowing, but a bit too orange-y -- even for a lightweight like me. The queens were amazingggg! Highlight was Selena and all the mommas in the audience cheering their kids on! Decent club! We went to the rooftop, and it was a bit disappointing that no one was dancing. I was surprised especially because there was a DJ playing some good music. It was a bunch of like people just hanging out, not too much mingling. So that wasn't too fun. Down on the first floor, there was a lot of dancing, which was better. People danced and hung out together. It was a good time downstairs. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for dancing, but probably come after 11pm at least. read more

I came in as a part of a holiday party. The atmosphere was great, the music was on point, and they had the football game on. We had a wonderful waitress that took care of us for the majority of our time in the booked space. It was a fun time and we enjoyed ourselves. The only reason I am giving it a 3-star review is because of the price of drinks. I was in shock when a simple cocktail (a well whiskey and ginger ale) was over $17. I even double checked with the bartender thinking that there may have been a mistake. But he confirmed that the price was correct. Again, the atmosphere was fun, and it is a beautiful space. I did have fun there, but the overpricing of the drinks will most likely deter me from coming back for a while. read more

Went in to try their brunch experience but they don't even serve brunch upstairs and it's more like a hangout once you're done eating. What's the point of the deposit and reservation if we can't experience the brunch? So we ate downstairs, and basically didn't get the chance to see upstairs. We were waiting to get to upstairs but we simply were ignored by the host and so we just left. The salmon platter was good but the burger just didn't taste fresh. It's just mushy ground beef. My favorite place to go with friends coming in from out of town! Music is always fun to dance to and not overly crowded. Also, even though this is a club you can dress casual or dressy. One important thing to note is if you are a girl here and paying for a drink you are getting scammed. There are a ton of promoters at joy that you can join. I have no idea what goes on at this place. I live nearby and there are constantly cops being called to this place. I usually walk my dogs up LaSalle around 5pm after work during the week and there are always loud groups outside already drunk and yelling (the groups never look like they came from the office for HH). I walked by recently on a Monday (non holiday) at about 2pm and there was two groups fighting outside with one cop that showed up. Half of one group was fighting with the other group while the other half was fighting with the one cop in his cop car I'm guessing waiting for backup. Today is Saturday at 3pm and I guess a manager got physically assaulted and the group ran about 2 blocks away to a parking garage (per police scanner) so there were cops everywhere trying to get them and CPD had to get the wagon to load up all the offenders. Judging by everything I observe in the exterior of that establishment, I'd be afraid to go inside. read more

I legitimately don't even know where to begin. 3 of us Came in last night to grab a few drinks after having dinner at RPM Seafood. We walked in (bouncer was NOT wearing a mask) we said were fine with sitting in doors and he pointed to 2 tables. They were not distanced lthe tables were iterally on top of one another. Waitress came by 10 minutes later so we asked for a drink menu and she said they have no menu but a full bar ok great- I've been to joy district more times than I can count and literally just wanted a cocktail. Fast forward we had 4 shots and 2 drinks ( Gin and soda and vodka pineapple- zero specification of what alcohol) the bill came- it was $115... I know I may have been in quarantine for a bit but 14 dollars for a shot of Tito's and 14$ for lemon drops DO NOT sound right. On top of a 20% automatic tip (which we probably would have left anyways but that was not disclosed anywhere it was 3 people on a Monday night 30 minutes before closing- not to be dramatic but are you F******g kidding me. ) we talked it through with our waitress and asked for itemized receipt and shit just didn't add up she didn't give an F so we were out. I don't mind paying for things whatsoever but we literally just had a bomb ass full dinner at an RPM with 6 drinks and our bill was 150$ how the hell did they charge us 115 for 4 shots and 2 drinks when they were not even full shots at a dirty ass place where the workers couldn't even follow cdc guideline and had tables larger then they should have. "me and my friends came for a night out and left with CHEMICAL BURNS from them dropping literal chunks of dry ice on the crowd so that they could get a "misty cooling effect". Beautiful club inside, a lot better than most clubs Ive seen. Music was also good. Place was super packed and my group and I kept getting pushed around but its kind of expected. Only thing I have to say is BE CAREFUL WHO YOU GO WITH!!! I was with a girl and a couple and immediately we got split into two lines, one with myself and the other girl and the other line was with the couple. Myself and the other girl immediately get let in for free but while I was waiting I noticed the bouncers were requiring the other line to pay which was basically guys and couples. I witnessed a guy pay $60 to get in and got called a cheap ass because he was initially trying to hand a $20. Funny thing is another guy in line only paid $40. When my friends (the couple) were up next they made the guy pay $40 and the girl $20. Its very obvious theyre making guys and couples pay and depending how you look you pay even more.. I decided to pick Joy District rooftop to celebrate my 26th birthday with bottle service. It was an excellent choice for the hot weather. I had two cabanas at the end and bottle service minimum was $1500. We ended up ordering 2 champagnes and 4 other bottles. The servers were super sweet. Always making sure our chasers were full and pouring shots for my party. The rooftop is definitely Instagram worthy. I really enjoyed the flower wall. The line for Joy District is always super packed so beware. I've been a couple times and it's always been hit or miss. The first time I went I loved it (but I was also only there for like 10 minutes). The chandelier upstairs drops every now and then which I thought was so cool. I came again this past weekend and it was super packed upstairs (it was Halloweekend though). I found the layout a little odd - there was a divider between the table area and the dance-floor that was kind of in the way. Everybody was throwing it back on everybody but it also felt like there was no room to dance. We left after a bit. read more

Ladies Beware! Last night, April 1st, 2023 my friends and I came out to Joy District to celebrate two of our friends birthdays. Our ground of friends had a great time the entire night. The music was great, we were dancing and enjoying ourselves. As the club was about to close, security started pushing everyone out in order to clear the building and most of our group ended up outside, while one of our female friends did not come out with us. We started calling her and texting her to see where she was and she texted back saying that she was in the bathroom and to come get her. We asked Mr. Kemble (the security personnel at the door) if we could come inside to get our friend and he told us no. We then started calling our friend to tell her to come out but she was no longer answering her phone. After about 15 minutes of waiting for her, we let Mr.Kemble know that she was not answering our calls or texts and once again asked if we could go inside to check on her. Right away he started getting aggressive and began raising his voice and yell at me that I was blocking the entrance and needed to move, which was a complete lie. I was on the side, behind the line divider. My friend and I once again began to explain to him that our friend never made it out of the building and we were worried and asked him to go in and check on her, if he wasn't going to let us check on her. He proceeded to then scream at us that the building has been cleared (it wasn't, there were still people inside) and that we were "fucking terrible friends for leaving her inside" even though the only reason why we "left her inside" was because we got pushed out by security as they were trying to clear out the premises. We yet again, told him we were worried about her and that something could've happened to her and that she could be getting raped in there for all we know and his response was to scream "I don't give a fuck about that. Fuck you and your friends", all because we were worried about a female friend of ours who never left your establishment. After about 35 minutes of the back and forth with Mr. Kimble, and him being disrespectful and unhelpful, my friend and I walked across the stress and asked 2 Chicago Police Officers to go in and look for our friend, as we were not getting any help from anyone who worked inside of Joy District. We explained our situation and they went inside to look for our friend. They entered Joy District and 10 minutes later, exited with our friend behind them. Upon seeing our friend come out of your establishment, Mr. Kimble began to yell more profanities at us. Mr. Kimble's behavior last night was totally unprofessional on many levels and represented this establishment in a negative way. Upon hearing of a girl who has not come out of the establishment and was not answering her phone/texts for 30+ minutes after the building "had been cleared", instead of helping or sending someone else to take a look to make sure she was ok, he became aggressive, inappropriate and unprofessional. He put a woman's life in danger by not even batting an eye at the fact that she was not responding to anyone and never exited the building. We had to her the POLICE involved to get our friend out of Joy District! I've heard terrible stories about Joy and how terrible their security is but I never thought that they would be so incompetent and not care at all that a woman had gone missing in their establishment! read more

Be careful making "reservations" here! I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and all of a sudden they cancel my reservation 4 days before saying they won't be open that day! Not to mention they never answer the phone. Literally 2 hours before they cancelled my appointment they actually allowed me to ADD a guest to my reservation...so within 2 hours it was determined that they wouldn't be opened on Sunday when 2 hours before they were able to add an extra guest to my reservation?! One star is more than they deserve. I went to a show there last evening and after looking at the Joy website thought it was an upscale venue. After arriving we found an old school average at best venue. The bartender who was very nice was only her second day bartending. We ordered two burgers, an appetizer and 5 drinks total. When our bill arrived I was floored. 183 dollars. It included multiple surcharges including giving themselves a 20 percent tip. And wait for this, there was a 6$ charge for putting ice in our drink. WTF. I have never heard of it. Then there was the show we paid big bucks for. I paid for private booth for 2 and when we got there there were two guys in there and I was told we would have to share with them. The room looked like it was prepared for a rooster fight. I was totally depressed. Over 500$ and we walked out. I will never be back and I don't normally read reviews but if I had had the opportunity to see one like this I would have stayed away. read more

Got there before 9 when they apparently switch shifts.... Sat down right in front of first girl (only bartender at the time).... Then the shift bust have changed because she left and a guy and girl bff came on. Same thing... they were there to talk to each other, show each other pictures on their phones and dance with each other. Waited over 15 minutes with an empty beer... how could they notice when they were too busy hanging out with each other. Again, the girl at the server well had to alert them, and my friend had to wave them down every time we wanted a drink. Neon lights, fake greenery, and a decent view of the skyscrapers. 2nd floor turns into a night club around 10:30-11 with pretty good music (hip hop, EDM, classic bangers). Crowd is pretty diverse (We all know how Chicago can be..). Get there at 10 or wait in line. The Bad: But $20 cover at the door to get to the rooftop? Eh.. okay. Wait wait, $20 now to go down to the second floor (that turns into a club) once the rooftop shuts down? What? Kinda ridiculous. But then the PRICES. 25$ mixed drinks on a Saturday? Automatically Pours Don Julio shots without your consent ($22?)? THEN includes 4% surcharge and AUTOMATIC %20 tip? Sheesh. Cherry on top? The girls on the roof were kinda snobby. Joy District is a fun spot with cute photo ops and skilled bartenders. I specifically went to the 3rd floor rooftop while on a mimosa bar crawl, but the other two floors look like they would be fun spots as well. Despite a $5 mimosa special that was going on during the crawl, a bunch of people were ordering the $14 frozen drinks. There was a froze, a frozen margarita and some sort of concoction called Spray Tan which I believe had an energy drink in it. I ended up getting the margarita and it was delicious! This place is all marketing and no substance. All Staff, except for the manager were rude and dismissive. It was difficult to get the host's attention at Parlay (the restaurant), even though we were the only 2 people waiting, and we had reservations. Our server never came, so we kept having to ask the bartender to find him/her. Ultimately it was the manager who took our orders personally and did everything else, including refilling our water. The free lemon drop shot and half off the bill made up for it. The music at Parlay was too loud for dinner conversation when we got there (8:30pm) and it got turned up twice on top of that. Went to the rooftop bar after dinner and the bartender asked my friend and I to step aside so he could first serve a big group of douches shots. It's not like the bar was crowded, either. We (two hot girls) walked up to a large empty section of the bar and immediately got asked by the bartender to move. In terms of atmosphere, none of the floors looked like the pictures. The rooftop was a lot smaller and way less decked out than the photos made it look, and there wasn't much of a view, despite advertising "impeccable views." The bathrooms on the second floor were run down, dingy and gross. Not what you'd expect from a club that has a dress code. read more
