The jalapeno poppers were above average, but obviously not hand breaded and homemade. The burger was below average...dry and flavorless. The fries were average. Can I recommend the place? I don't know, maybe. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, I guess it's okay. If you're looking for a Michelin star dining experience, you won't find it here. Nice decor, large restaurant, ample parking in their private lot. Service was good for our large party! There's a hide menu with many Greek specialty dishes, sandwiches, and dinners. I like that breakfast is available all day. BTW, all day means Olympic Star is open 24 hours, so it's a good choice for late night or early morning munchies. The saganaki was perfect! Dinner rolls are individually wrapped, but the one I tried did not seem real fresh. I tried the z Mediterranean pita, grilled chicken with sautéed green peppers and onions, it was just okay but leftovers tasted better for next day breakfast. Reuben sandwich was lean and tasty, Monte Cristo nice, and souvlaki very appetizing. Portions are huge. If I return, I will choose breakfast! read more

This is a family-owned restaurant that has been around for some time. The space has a nice size to it and it is very clean; nothing fancy though. We came around mid-morning and it was not packed but we ordered take out. They have an extensive menu and was pleasantly surprised to see that they have Greek and Italian options. We will come back to try other items on their menu. But for today, I ordered the Coloroado skillet with pancakes and hubby ordered the Reuben sandwich. The food here is just okay but nothing special. Typical Greek diner food. The bad part is that it was so expensive to eat here. We got an appetizer, a bowl of soup, a breakfast sandwich and 2 coffees, with tip it was almost $60. They charge almost $5 for a coffee, and the cups are tiny which required constant refills! The food is good but oh man, are they are stingy and not good to their loyal customers. Prices are outrageous and they will skimp on anything they can to save themselves a dime. I bought a quart of soup for over 13 dollars today and was told that only 2 buns come with that and anything more will cost extra. A quart of soup feeds between 2-4 people. Coffee cups were made smaller with a price increase, refills on pop are capped, extra credit card fees etc... These are things that ultimately do not cost them much to satisfy their customers. It's unfortunate that this family restaurant isn't inviting anymore. The owners are out for their bottom line and that's going to lose service for them when their customers don't feel valued, and like their business isn't important to them. Greed will you get you nowhere. It's the small things that make your customers feel like they matter to you, and not just how much you can make off them. Do better. read more

First time here although I believe it's been here a very long time. Food and drinks were decent but nothing special. The service was excellent. Very old fashioned place. Good menu. Mostly typical American diner type stuff but they have a good amount of Greek, Italian, and seafood as well. Prices were fair. The clientele seemed to be the over 70 crowd. read more

This place is one of the few very best restaurants in the south suburbs. First all their waitresses are really nice as well as the family owners who are usually all there helping the waitresses get the food out. The food is always good. I usually go in the early afternoon for a late breakfast and never-ever had a bad meal! I usually see five or six waitresses unless it gets later in the afternoon and then three. Their soup is at the very top in quality along with New Horizon at 148th & Central. About every hour someone comes in to order a QUART of whatever they feature that day, which is a testament to how good it is! The bathroom is clean and parking is adequate. The atmosphere is so hot here and the servers look miserable because of it. I own and run a business and would never have my servers running around in that kind of temperature where they come to the tables sweating. The girl with the curly hair I don't know if she's the owner but the way she speaks with everyone including the employees is awful. Her stuck up attitude is sickening. She treats guest terrible and even the own staff. She's the one who cashes people out and than sits there doing nothing except playing on her phone. While in high school back in the 80's, my friends and I would spend countless hours here, enjoying the best cup of coffee and the most exciting dish I'd ever experienced, Saganaki. Imagine my delight and surprise when, some 30 years later, I returned to the area and found them still in business. The reason is clear. We were greeted by the same family that have always provided great service and awesome food. It's home style and not overly fussy, but when you order 2 eggs over easy you always receive 3! Perfectly prepared and served up with your choice of toast, potatoes and breakfast meat. The Rye toast was everything I'd remembered. When I shared my story with Isabelle our server, and Anna the hostess, not only did they welcome my memories, they shared a bit of their story as well. The owner is now in his 80's, and they operate under different hours now. They embraced my reminiscing, and to my surprise, sent over plates for Saganaki! For breakfast! I was eager with anticipation waiting for this plate of flaming cheese to arrive and anxious to share the experience with my husband. The server came and with the usual flair, lit the cheese afire and exclaimed oompa! Every food memory came back to me instantly as we dove into the oooey, crusty melted cheese. I cannot emphasize how warmly I was welcomed by Anna, Isabel and the owner. We embraced as if no time had passed at all, and I was a long lost family member. Restaurants don't often operate like this, certainly not where I've moved to, and I was overjoyed with the experience. Stopped to get my 88 year old dad a mostacioli dinner. He eats late so he did not open it up for a while after I dropped it off. Spoke with him the next day and he said how awful it was. The pasta had no sauce...none. How do you send that out? How do you package that up get your payment and a 20% tip and send me on my way?? Total failure. Even more maddening is my dad went in to tell them the next day. He purchased another meal from them and explained what happened the previous night. They really went out of their way and gave him rice pudding...rice effen pudding as a sorry we sent you pasta with nothing last night for dinner. I understand running a business is difficult....really difficult. However if you cannot take care of YOUR mistakes for a loyal customer then there is something fundamentally wrong. You cannot be that pathetically cheap. Not asking for the world but come on. I will never purchase anything for him from this place again and I am begging him to never come back. Met up with some family here while in form out of town. The parking lot was spacious with plenty of empty spots available. We were seated immediately, and the staff took our orders promptly. It took a while for the food to come out, but, it WAS pretty busy. The restaurant was noisy, and every table was full. When the food came out, I was less than impressed. My husband gets me the veal parmigiana here for me. I used to love it, but over the last couple of months the sauce tastes different and they only put one slice of cheese on the veal. Veal has been overcooked as well. This happened on the last 2 occasions. I'm hoping the new chef is trying to adjust but it's just not even 1/2 as good as it was before. Same ingredients in different portions don't make the same flavor. A heads up on the reducing cheese would've been nice, I understand food costs, would've paid for the original standard. This is a pretty rundown place, and therefore not very appealing to dine in. The coffee, something you should be able to count on in this type of joint, was not drinkable. We have been here many times over the years..Until today. We ordered $30 worth of dinner for two to go. And maybe I should have taken it as a sign not to order when the girl hung up on me the first time I called. My husband's dinner was fine mine was not. After a 12 hour shift he picked up dinner for us on his way home. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet. It was inedible. There was about five cups of ham maybe a piece of cheese and it was terrible. I started out by picking out or at least trying to pick out all of the ham so that I can eat some of the maybe what was left egg and I just couldn't do it I gave up after about 10 minutes of trying to pick out 64,000 pieces of ham out of a small omelette. After I decided it was an inedible and after spending $12 plus I decided to call the girl at the desk who seemingly put me on hold for one minute I don't know who she was speaking to said what was their policy that we had to bring the food back in in order for a refund I said my husband just worked a 12 hour shift and I don't drive at the moment...she said sorry that's our policy and was not not very kind. I told her well please make sure you let your kitchen know that they're doing a disservice to the customers because making food like this is an edible and we won't be bringing our business here anymore. I'm sure they don't care but sorry they're not going to get any more money for out of us and .....it wasn't about getting money back it was about letting them know they're making food that people just can't eat. read more

Food was pretty good it was a super packed evening on a Sunday night. It's old inside needs a bit of an update and the customers are also older and it's family oriented so you wouldn't think the food is good Definitely surprised me and my kids we had the turkey club not bad. Sliders Cheeseburger which was good daughter got chicken wings which was tasty. Bread that was served wish it was fresh warm and flaky it wasn't. Cream of chicken was the highlight for me. Oh and the waiter he was very polite and helpful really appreciated that. We are in town for a family function tomorrow. While deciding on a place to eat dinner (we wanted something other than a chain restaurant), we found Olympic Star. I am so glad that we did! From the outside, it look a little run down but inside it is very clean and nicely laid out although a little on the dark side. The best part of our experience was our server, Armando. If I could just rate him this review would be 5 out of 5 without hesitation. He was friendly and funny. (And cute!) We we're able to crack some jokes with him and he had a few witty comebacks that had us laughing! If you go there I highly recommend you ask for Armando's section!! As for the food, here is the reason for the less than perfect score. Two people ordered the fish & chip special. It was underwhelming and not so special. One person ordered a burger which was cooked exactly as it was ordered. So there's a plus. As for me, I ordered a flatbread panini. A little but messy but soooo good. Overall I would recommend it and next time I'm back in the area, I will be back for more of that delicious rice pudding! read more

Good, old fashioned Greek restaurant. It's just exactly what it is supposed to be...flaming cheese and all. It's family. Breakfast food, steaks, sandwiches, stir fry, American classics, pasta dishes, Greek staples - and ALL with a Greek flare and flavor. The place has been around for a long time, and you can just feel it. It's comfy and familiar. Of course now there are dividers between tables, but it's nice to see someplace still being cautious. AND...they are still serving the whole menu unlike the COVID menus most places where half or less of their items remain. The menu is a bit extensive. But I guarantee you everyone in your party can find something they like. They're good with accommodating special diets and allergies as well, including vegan options. PreCOVID, I likely would have given them a 4-star, but because of how hard they're working to maintain their classic Greek diner and be COVID safe they earned the bump up. read more

I was passing through on my way home to Saint Louis and Yelp saves the day again by letting me know of this gem of a restaurant. The place is clean, the staff is very pleasant and the food was great! I came in about 11:30 on a Sunday and it was the breakfast crowd. My Spartan Omlette was perfect and the fresh fruit was extremely fresh. My coffee cup was near empty when I think it was the owner? Finally came by and filled it. It wasn't too busy, being an ex server, it was nothing to be able to handle. She wasn't very friendly nor did she really even check on us. She didn't seem overwhelmed, she just seemed like she could care less! Upon leaving we noticed servers giving mothers at their tables a flower. My daughter and I didn't get one from our server. See!! Attitude! Could care less! The saganaki here was sooo delicious and I absolutely appreciated the fact that they set it on fire and screamed, "OPA!" right next to the table -- some things should NEVER change. The cream of chicken soup hit the spot with a deeply satisfying 'yum!' I had the Gyros sandwich and seasoned fries -- both amazing. I appreciated that the Gyros also came with feta cheese, and the seasoned fries were tons better than the fries you get at McDonalds.
