Our little group of local women goes there for breakfast every Saturdays - for the past few months. But today was bad. The food was bad and the manager wasn't great at all. First, I think they forgot about us as we never waited so long before (even when packed), then the food was not up to par: the eggs were runny (close to be unsafe to eat), the hashbrowns were not cooked well all the way (barely warm inside), 2 ladies sent the biscuits back because they were burnt and to much else to list. We tried to talk to the manager because it's never happened to us before, and she wasn't taking the criticism well AT ALL. We're locals and weekly regulars, used to recommend them to other locals as well as our guests. After today, we will never go back nor recommend. read more

We accidentally ended up at Mama Jean's on Mother's Day this year. As one should on Mother's Day-we woke up late, hung around the house and moseyed out when we got good and ready. We ended up stumbling upon Mama Jean's as we were searching for a place for breakfast. We got in the door at about 10:30 and there was a wait. It was a Sunday, so they had a breakfast buffet but it switched to lunch at 10:45 sharp. We were seated by 10:40, but didn't have the time and didn't want to be rushed at the breakfast buffet. Instead our server let us know we could order breakfast from the menu or lunch. We opted for breakfast and it came out quick. It was delicious! A good home cooked breakfast. The eggs were perfect, bacon was yummy, and several servers checked on us throughout our time there. It was busy-but a clean place with a home-feel and we never felt rushed. I visited Mama Jeans for breakfast. I was disappointed. In the beach area with tons of breakfast options, it was mediocre. I asked the waitress about the sausage and she raved about it, but it was tasteless. Most of the people eating there were like myself...retired and old. Mama Jean's is quick, convenient, and has a fair selection on the breakfast buffet. Service was the best part about the experience, with team members checking in and refilling beverages regularly. Buffet items remained filled and the food was warm however everything was neither great nor bad. The good news is that I didn't overeat... I guess it is the upside of less than excellent dishes. Couldn't ask for much more regarding breakfast. We were headed to the Big M for their morning trip, but wanted to grab something quick. The food was plentiful, the service was fast and we left satisfied. The only star removal came because the country ham was really really salty and the breakfast doughnuts and cinnamon rolls were stale. Good fresh country cooking with wide variety. Took away a star because I like a buffet you can take a little bit of different things from, but they up charge for that. Still liked it, I just got the all you can eat option. However, they dip it for you so I got way more of the chicken than I could eat and not much variety anyway because if I asked for a little bit of something I stilll got a lot which meant there was no room on the plate for other options and it was very rushed. I am following up on Cherry G.'s post from yesterday. I am the one who was in the cashiers line when Amanda made her comments. Specifically, she was staring directly at me while complaining to a customer in front of me, going on and on about how awful we are. When I got up to pay my bill. I was so anxious, feeling intimidated and bullied, I couldn't even look her in the eye. I just paid my bill and walked away. When one of my friends asked Amanda about it right after, she admitted that she was, in fact, targeting her comments to me. She also said all of the rest of the staff felt the same way about us. A group of us have eaten at Mama Jean's for several years and have been more or less satisfied. The food is mediocre but the prices are low. Our group has always tipped well usually around 30-40%. Today eight of us were there for a birthday lunch. As one our group was in line to pay, the cashier, Amanda, was discussing our group saying that we are always loud and that they have told us to be quiet and to sit elsewhere and we didn't listen. In all the years there, we have never been told to be quiet or sit elsewhere. How UNPROFESSIONAL CAN YOU BE! With all of the restaurants in the area, there are plenty of other places to eat. This location was recommended to us by our Airbnb host. We were down for a wedding in the Little River area and were looking for some recommendations for breakfast. When we pulled into Mama Jean's, I knew we would be eating well that morning. The breakfast buffet was getting switched out for the lunch buffet. While the lunch looks absolutely delicious, we decided we were not hungry enough to make it worth the bill so we ordered off the breakfast menu. In an attempt to replicate the breakfast buffet, we ordered nearly a dozen items off the menu. It was ALL GREAT! We had sausage and biscuits, corned beef, pancakes, hashbrowns, eggs, all the meats and grits. Nom-Nom-Nom! I figured out the Little River Spaghetti Junction, sort of. Rt. 9, Highway 17, Rt. 90; its all off ramps and lane switching and on ramps. All comes together pretty much in Mama Jean's parking lot--which I think is at the end of an off-ramp. Hell, I don't know. The parking lot is one of those that will bounce you around some if you don't pay attention. Also, if you're not paying attention, you could drive right out of the parking lot down the off-ramp into oncoming traffic. Got a break a few eggs to make an omelette, right? The new Covid Mask Wearing Phase of Pandemic Kabuki Theater has put a premium on having expressive eyes. My server's eyes were wide, kind, smiling, and maybe just a tad judgmental when I ordered a side pancake. Shrug. I also know the color of her eyes, but I'm not telling. Its like Server/Customer privilege. A certain mystique. I could also tell she was smiling behind her mask just from the little crinkle in her eyes. We are all learning new social skills to get by, I think. My bacon and cheese omelette was satisfying and I was able to make 4 little bacon and cheese omelette toast sandwiches with it. Another strange marker of Pandemic Theater is no longer having an assortment of condiments to choose from. The Texas Pete comes in little packets. I don't like that because I don't have the dexterity to open up a packet of Texas Pete and not blind myself or somehow spray it into my coffee. My grits were on point and my coffee was the elixir of life that this rainy morning demanded. Apparently, there is a buffet, but I don't know what that entails. Probably have to pass through one of those anti-microbial showers and have all your food irradiated. Stopped in two weeks ago after looking for a local place for breakfast on Sunday. Definitely a favorite with the locals and tourists. Upon walking in you find your own table. Note there are tables in room behind main room. Most of the patrons go for the buffet which had all the basics. We decided to just order from menu as the tables were close and it was crowded around the buffet. I can tell you the frequently refilled the buffet and cleaned around it. I had the Mamas Omelette. Hands down one of the best omelettes I have had. Every bite was filled with fillings. The best was also the people watching and the staff. A biker behind is asked where his breakfast was and the waitress quickly came back with the name of another restaurant near by had just called and said his order was ready for pick up!
