We were drawn in from their sign saying "best waffles in town" as they are located right next to Waffle House. We arrived at 9:50 on a Saturday morning and only had a a couple minute wait before being seated. Our waitress was beyond friendly. She was so helpful and funny. She really made our breakfast experience so much better. I wish I knew her name to give her props! (She's a teacher and lacrosse coach! Way to go, girl!) Within 20 minutes of arriving, we had our food. We all ordered the breakfast special. Which was so much food, but allowed all of us the opportunity to try everything. The bacon was super crispy as requested and delicious! The sausage was good, links were better than the patties IMO! I loved the French Toast more than the waffles/pancakes. Our friends really enjoyed their biscuits and gravy. We loved the barn/cow decor! There was even a real (alcohol) bar that we didn't see until we walked out! 10/10 would recommend! When I visit my mom in South Carolina, I always have plenty of time in the mornings to eat breakfast. Since I rarely use this time because I can never find quality food as good as what I make at home, I rarely go out. While searching through Yelp. I saw that this place was known for having the best grits in the area, and boy, they were right. The grits were fantastic and creamy. The eggs were over easy and perfect, and the patties had a nice spice to them. I washed it all down with a Lynchburg iced tea with Jack Daniels whiskey, and it was the best breakfast I've had outside of my own home in a long time. I ordered a new special salad they were offering... it was supposed to be romaine lettuce... it was iceberg... not a fan... I noticed that also there was no black beans on it.. the waitress said oh sorry we don't have romaine or black beans... I said it's on the menu... I eat my salad... Kim was an excellent waitress. She kept my coffee filled and was quick to bring anything we asked for. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs. The chicken fried steak was crispy. It was sitting on a bed of gravy which ended up being the perfect amount. It had good seasoning the breading and the gravy. The home fries were cut to the perfect size. They were seasoned well and were nice and crispy. My over medium eggs were cooked perfectly. The raisin bread toast was sooo good. The restaurant has a cozy family feel. Family Barn has everything you're looking for in a classic breakfast joint; fair prices, clean, no long waits, lots of seating and fantastic friendly service. Have been here twice. Both times we had very friendly service and good coffee! Food was good, but honestly, not my favorite breakfast place in the area. The chipped beef is good, but for almost $11, I would've expected it to come with potatoes, as most places do. The second time I had the breakfast bowl. It was good, with potatoes, scrambled eggs (a bit overdone, but ok), cheese and sausage gravy. I've tried sharing this review multiple times and they have negative comments turned off of filtered because it has not shown up. DO NOT eat at this restaurant if you want quality food, family friendly service because you cannot find it here. My husband, our son and I recently ate here on vacation and it was the most horrible experience EVER! First off, it took our server 10 minutes to greet us, when they weren't busy, and then another 10 to take our drink orders. The entire time she was waiting on us she was very rude, and constantly rolling her eyes at everything we said to her. When we finally go to order, not only was all of our food partially incorrect, but it was cold and tasted awful. The food they serve here is the same as the cafeteria foods we ate in public schools as children. It is bland and flavorless. And the waitress was mad at us when we told her it was cold and asked if it could be microwaved again. Maybe I could have looked past all of this, if it wasn't for what we overheard from our waitress and the other kitchen staff, since we were seated at a booth right next to the kitchen. Our server was loudly continuously complaining about us to the other staff in the back, repeatedly stating that she was a m.a.n.a.g.e.r and that she wasn't afraid to "put us in our place." And as if this wasn't bad enough, there was a man shouting curse words and F bombs at the top of his lungs in earshot of our five year old son and all of the other kids in the place. I don't know what kind of "family" this rabid animal barn is aiming to serve, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

Fathers Day breakfast for the hubster. The restaurant was very clean and the farmhouse decor was very cute. All of the staff, from the hostess to the waitresses, were so pleasant, warm, and inviting. The One egg entree was just the right amount of food. I requested scrambled WITH cheese and the eggs came out scrambled with a slice of cheese lightly melted on top. That was a disappointment. The grits were thick & creamy and hot. With the Farmers Special, you get a little bit of everything; two strips of bacon, one sausage link, one sausage patty, three scrambled eggs, home fries & one plate size pancake. In a span of 45 minutes, we were asked if we needed anything 722 times by our waiter, hostess (as she sat others), other random wait staff, and I think a local who was just super nice... This was great. To go coffee? Yes please. Didn't have to ask, they offered. Wife had basic eggs, toast, hash browns, biscuit. I got BLT and egg. All decent tasting. We came in on 10:30 on a Wednesday with our thee young children ages 4, 2, and 1. First we were told we could sit at a booth but we couldn't get a high chair but they had booster seats. Okay that's fine the two older ones could get booster seats and the baby was sleeping in the car seat. We sit down and then get told there's no free booster seats but they'll bring some over when they're free. No problem, hopefully that will be soon. another waitress comes over to say we can set the baby/car seat on the floor bc the kitchen door is behind us. Makes sense no problem, we jam her in the bench. Our waitress was lovely and did a great job. When the food came out the 2 & 4 year old fought about who got what. They fought for MAYBE 2 mins at most until we Could cut the food.. another waitress came over and "put her finger to her lips and loudly "Shhh'd" our table. I have never had such rude service by someone in a restaurant. As someone whose waitresses for years I understand it can be annoying and bother some when kids fight but this was normal and short lived. I couldn't believe my eyes. There is so many other ways to handle a loud table. The scrambled eggs were dry and tasteless the kids pancake was decent and the omelet was good. After that I had a really sour taste in my mouth. As we were leaving I saw 3 other tables of guest with no kids. Hopefully the next family get their booster seats and high chair with nicer staff The food was okay but after the whole experience $50 for three meals we won't be coming back for decent food and rude staff. read more

Attended a community Ladies luncheon today. Was looking forward to a meal as this was first visit. I ordered the Southwest Salad as I'm vegetarian. The others at my table received their meals and were halfway done when I finally got my salad. It was basically a bowl of lettuce for $11.99. When I questioned server why ingredients were missing that were advertised she checked with kitchen and was told they never had them, even though listed on menu. Also, the slices of avocado were hard as a rock. I asked to speak with the manager and another server asked if she could help. Nothing changed. My party received their checks and I was told manager was working on my check. Finally it arrived with $0.50 deducted. As I was leaving I asked someone to speak with manager and he said he was the manager so I explained my situation over again. I was basically told sorry, but nothing I can do. The server saw us talking and advised me that she had asked him to come to my table and he said no. Needless to say I left very dissatisfied and I definitely will not be back. Our group had an excellent breakfast this morning at this restaurant. Among our group we had pancakes (which are as big as a plate) and French toast, and egg dishes. Our group of 5 were all pleased with our meal. The food came out quickly, and everything on our order was correct--even the special requests. My guy loves breakfast. It's ok, but I prefer lunch. So we usually go out around 10:30, so each of us can eat our preference. Most restaurants in this area start serving lunch then, and many serve it all day, along with breakfast. I was quite disappointed to discover they don't offer lunch until 11:30. The breakfast was okay, but the eggs and biscuit were only warm. The biscuit wasn't hot enough to melt the room temperature butter. Bacon was a thick cut, and was not quite crispy. The orange juice was nothing special- if you like good oj, go to Omega. After my juice was gone, I was never offered more, or some water. In fact, we didn't see the waitress again until she brought the bill. After she returned with the paid bill (we were done eating) she did offer my guy more coffee- but didn't offer me any water. We ate here on the morning of 05/05/23. After finding some reviews on Yelp. The food was good and not too pricey and the service was quick and friendly. I had the two egg with meat breakfast and my eggs were cooked like I like them the bacon was crispy and very good. I had ordered Rye toast but got whole wheat, this was corrected by our waitress. Overall the food is god the service is good and we will be back. On a side note this is the same folks restaurant that used to be at the Surfside Pier. They always had great service and good food there. I am hoping the will return when the pier is completed. Same great food just better views. read more

Having waited for nearly a year to try this local restaurant (it was always closed i assume due to covid?), we drove by one evening during late spring- and to our surprise, it was open. The atmosphere was quaint, and we were greeted & seated. The staff was light but friendly & menu pricing seemed reasonable. We had a taste for fried chicken but couldn't order it; the Waiter told us they were sold out for the day, only a certain amount was prepared daily and once it's gone, it's gone. Total Bummer! So, we settled for something barbecu-ish. It tasted ok, but the portions were surprisingly small, and we left still hungry. No biggie, we topped off with an ice cream cone from down the street! I was super disappointed in the meal I got. I had fried chicken, Mac & cheese, & collard greens. The chicken still had the back connected to the breast. The meat from the chicken tasted like rubber and was hard. The Mac & cheese looked like it was in a hot box for hours dried out and had no taste or love to it. The collard greens had no flavor at all! This is the south, you would expect to have some good flavor in a meal like this but it definitely didn't meet any expectations there. The server we had was good. Have no complaints there. The only thing that was good was the corn bread. The pecan pie was the only thing besides the corn bread that I actually ate.
