I can't say enough wonderful things about this restaurant! The customer service is amazing from the moment you walk in the door-Devin at the register and serving our table was so kind- letting me sample the collard greens when I questioned how much spice was "spicy"(which by the way they were PERFECTION-just the right amount of heat, with vinegar and a balanced sweetness)- and offering suggestions on what to pair with the hamburger steak (which was soooo close to my mom's homemade beef had to close my eyes and just savor the moment). Biscuits are just like your grandmas-if you know you know. Every thing was brought out warm and clearly made to order. We were checked on multiple times throughout the meal by multiple staff-they even made sure not to bring out dessert to the table until we were done with our meal-even though you order all at once at the counter. Being on the road, I have a list of dietary restrictions so I can successfully keep driving. However.. I could not stay away from that pot roast. That gravy and rice took me back to when I was a kid getting a plate from my grandma. That is gravy.. and rice.. simple things southern made that make a plate incredible before you can even reach the proteins. Now what was actually mine? Catfish and fries. I did play it safe, but that catfish was everything. Properly cleaned, fried to perfection. Super crispy, smoky when you break it and seasoned through. It literally doesnt get better than that. Aside from my wife's pot roast, the mac & cheese was valid. Seeing it, I had questions, but when you break through that layer of cheese, it was oozing with goodness. My only regret is not staying the night in Florence and letting this food put me to sleep. This is an easy play to stop along I-95. read more

We stopped by Julia Belle's on our way back from taking a trip down to Florida. Julia Belle's is a family owned business that offers a lot of Southern cooking staples on their menu. They also had great hospitality to push a couple tables for our big group to sit together. They made sure that we had everything we needed through our dining experience. As a family we shared a few dishes. We got fried green tomatoes, a seafood combo platter and a side of macaroni and cheese. Everything came out piping hot, so you know it was made to order. The fried green tomatoes were so good. I liked the remolaude sauce that went along with it. The fried seafood combo dish was a good variety. It came with a blue crab cake, fried shrimp and fried catfish nuggets with a side of coleslaw. The seafood was very fresh. I enjoyed this establishment. Texas Pete and that beacon gravy? The biscuit where made from scratch (hard) but, delicious. I ordered the fried pork chops, gravy and sides. I was so fascinated with the food service I vowed to return before closing. Upon arrival I chose to try there Shrimp and Grits with the Green tomato appetizer. This place has great Southern cooking in a casual atmosphere. It is convenient to many of the hotels off Route 95. So, many diners are travelers. But, there are also many locals who return often. The menu is limited, which actually is good because they know how to prepare Low Country dishes and do not try to do other things. Upon entering, you go to the counter and order (like in a fast food place). Most orders come with choice of a side and a large biscuit. Prices are very reasonable. For example, the delicious blackened catfish I had (with sweet potato fries) was only $13.99. One orders and gets a number and then the food is delivered to your table. A tip bucket is near the register. I look forward to eating here when I stay in Florence. Try it, you won't regret it. read more

You place your order at the counter, they give you a number to take to your table and they will bring your order to your table.when it's ready. We were looking for a quick and inexpensive dinner stop with "real" food during a marathon drive from CT to FL and Julia Belle's did not disappoint! We always try to patronize small businesses when we travel and, even if we hadn't noticed the "family-owned, one of a kind" sign out front, this fact was readily evident by the warm way we were greeted, the genuinely enthusiastic interactions with staff, and obvious home-cooked care put into the food! We tried the chicken and waffles with Carolina peaches, pulled pork sandwich, and both blackened and fried catfish and tried each other's food, loving each dish. We are a family who rarely adds on dessert, but were swayed by the homemade key lime pie and were satisfied with that final decision. Everything we ordered tasted great; just too much food. This place has been open about four years and is named after the owners grandmother. I called in the morning to confirm if they were selling a full pecan pie, as stated on their website. Since I was coming from 5 hours away and taking it to New York, I wanted to ensure they had one available. The representative assured me that they did have a full pecan pie and also answered my second question that they indeed had biscuits with sausage gravy. Before I hung up, she informed me that the pie would cost around $45 with tax. Although I hadn't asked about the price, I appreciated the information. When I arrived around 4:30 PM, I was informed that I needed to pre-order the pie three days in advance because it takes that long to make. The employee said she misunderstood my initial inquiry that morning when I called , claiming I was only asking about the price, which was not true--I simply asked if they had the pie available. Not only was the pie nearly $50, but when I received it, it was wrapped in foil rather than placed in a proper box for transport, reminiscent of something from an 8 years old's bake sale. To make matters worse, the biscuits were overly sweet and hardened within an hour. I also discovered that, despite being told earlier that they had gravy, it was only available on weekends. Overall, my experience was disappointing, and I cannot recommend this business. Their website is misleading, and the service was far from satisfactory. I would not return. Instead of being sorry they should have offered a discount . Icing on the cake : I went across the street and bought 3 more young's pecan pics at 17 dollars a pop and they were make better than the 50 one here . So disappointed. read more
