A Florence standout worth returning to! As a San Francisco Bay Area foodie, I'm always searching for restaurants that care about sourcing, seasonality and the entire dining experience. Town Hall checked those boxes for me a couple of years ago, so when work brought me back to Florence, I knew exactly where I wanted to eat. I looked at other options first, but nothing appealed to me at quite the same level. Town Hall's farm-driven, Southern-inspired menu, shareable plates and beautiful setting won me over again. And I'm happy to report: the second visit was every bit as memorable as the first. We started with the house-made cornbread and honey butter at our server's recommendation. Be warned: this stuff is dangerous. Hot, sweet and almost cake-like, with that honey butter melting into it. We promptly ordered another basket. Cocktails were equally impressive. I ordered a Sidecar, and when our server asked my cognac preference, my colleague volunteered Hennessy. Hennessy it was--and it made one spectacular Sidecar. For dinner, our server described a scallop special served over a shrimp étouffée-style preparation with microgreens. Sold. I paired that with the wedge salad because, well, I needed some roughage. The wedge came beautifully dressed with blue cheese, tomatoes, pickled red onion and bacon. The scallops were beautifully seared and tender, and the rich sauce underneath made the dish. My dining companions joined the fun with the house-made sausage, another order of the scallops, and a ribeye with French fries swapped in for the creamed corn--a little steak frites moment. Everything landed beautifully. What impressed me almost as much as the food was the service choreography. Our server was knowledgeable, personable and attentive without hovering. There was thoughtful table touching throughout the evening. Our dishes arrived together, and no plates disappeared while someone else was still eating. Those details may seem small, but polished hospitality lives in those details. We were far too full for dessert, so we called it a night--happy, well-fed and already talking about how good everything had been. Town Hall is the kind of restaurant I hope to find when traveling for work: locally driven, interesting food, strong cocktails, beautiful surroundings and service that understands hospitality. Two visits several years apart, and both delivered. If you're in Florence--or passing through South Carolina on your way toward the coast--Town Hall is worth making part of the trip. They were kind enough to let us order from the menu but eat upstairs. Service was a little slow but otherwise great. Such wonderful vegetarian options! The creamed corn was delicious. Collards are technically I think cooked with meat but didn't have super heavy flavors for those that may still eat meat. Corn bread was absolutely delicious. This place is a real gem. I wish I had found it sooner. A lot of places downtown Florence are closed on Monday's but Town Hall was open so I decided to dine in. Wonderful service, got a table right away and waiter came by immediately to take drinks and appetizer order and go over specials of the day. I liked the interior layout and that you can watch the chefs prepare entrees while you dine. That alone can be entertaining if you are dining alone. Reminded me of Ted's Montana Grill. Now for the food..., everything came out quickly. We got the deviled eggs, and New Orleans Shrimp as appetizers and the flavors were amazing. I simply had to use the corn bread to dip up the New Orleans sauce after the shrimp were gone, it was had good! After appetizers I didn't want a large meal, so I got the daily scallops special. It was just the right amount. The scallops were grilled just right, and the sauce (the sauce again!) was flavorful with a mild spice kick to it. Blueberry sorbet for dessert, locally made. Will definitely be back when my travels take me back to Florence. read more

Florence South Carolina provided a perfect Midway point while we were traveling between Washington DC and our trip back home to Florida. While staying at the Hyatt Place, we were happy to visit Town Hall restaurant which is directly diagonal across the street. The restaurant is very attractive and modern - it appears that Florence is going through somewhat of a Renaissance, and they are developing around some very nice hotels and restaurants, complemented by a small town feel. At this restaurant, there is apparently a rooftop bar/patio, we enjoyed the dining room instead. Our server, Lara quickly approached and offered drinks and some menu suggestions. We wanted to sample many things, so we ordered a number of appetizers rather than going with entrees. Some that I would highly recommend include the cornbread, the seared scallops, and the grilled chicken wings. We also enjoyed some shrimp skewers which were good / not great, and some calamari which is prepared very differently than we're accustomed to - if you do get the calamari, ask first about the preparation. This is a moderately priced restaurant, for us it was about $50 per person, you can certainly get reasonably priced entrees for less, and it may be quite a bit more for people who may be drinking. Since there is a full bar, it appeared that many tables were coming as much for the drinks as they were for the food. If you happen to be in the Florence, SC area, this is certainly a great choice with a beautiful dining area, wonderful service, great food, and a walkable and safe downtown area. read more

We were driving from Washington, DC to Florida and decided to stop in Florence for the night. This restaurant was right across the street from our hotel so we made an early dinner reservation. I am glad we did because it was a fantastic find. The ambiance was nice with an open airy space and plenty of spread out tables. The menu had about ten good sounding appetizers as well as about ten good sounding entrees. We decided to go with all appetizers. Our first item was the corn bread with honey butter. It was probably the best corn bread I have ever had. Next we had the scallops in a signature sauce and it was also delicious. Our third item was the chicken wing dish with various sauces, another good item. Our fourth appetizer was the grilled shrimp skewers with Carolina BBQ sauce and Cole slaw, another tasty dish. We had dinner at Town Hall and started with the fried green tomatoes and shrimp dip to share. I ordered the shrimp and grits, while my friend went with the short rib. The shrimp and grits were creamy with plenty of seasoning, and the shrimp had a nice sear. The short rib was tender and came with a rich sauce that paired well with the sides. The dining room had a polished but comfortable feel, and the meal moved along at an easy pace. read more

The ambiance was nice. The restaurant has a semi formal set up was perfect for the occasion. They accommodated a party of 15 with relatively short notice. Pricey, for subpar food. The duck was extremely salty!! I mean tasted like they don't measure and had a bad taster. It was terrible. The calamari was the tiniest and saltiest appetizer I've ever seen for $15, The catfish had a bed of extra spicy, salty rice again with the salt. The collard greens were both too salty and too sweet. Cucumber salad had an unpleasant taste. The shrimp skewers, steak, burger, truffle fries, mashed potatoes and cornbread with guava butter and were seasoned well. I ordered the $49 filet mignon and my receipt showed a $54 charge, with not 1 side. The waitress dropped the birthday cake off and kept going. I asked if they would sing happy birthday she said no and walked off, extremely cold. They made us sort the $1027 bill out among 18 people, awful experience. Almost all of the group's food needed to go back bc of the salt overload, except the burgers, shrimp and steak. Definitely won't be returning. read more

If you don't know what farm to table is then make sure you do your research before going to this restaurant. I chose the hamburger and didn't realize the taste would be different than a burger you would eat at a different restaurant. My date enjoyed it. He had the swordfish with lima beans and left nothing on the plate.lol. They had a diverse menu of non-alcoholic drink drinks. I had a non-alcoholic version of a tequila sunrise and my date had a mule with ginger beer. Service was great and it looks like a great place for dinner with girlfriends, date night and a nice bar for solo meal. I went to come back and eat at the chefs table where you can watch them cook. Father's Day, empty restaurant at 5pm so you'd think they would have it together..... Not so much..... Service was good but the kitchen was terrible. 4 meals were cold. 3 okay. 1 never came. After making the waiter aware, the last meal only came after the rest of the family was done eating. When it arrived the quail was fried to death. The manager did adjust the bill accordingly, however, the experience was well below average for an upscale restaurant. We Won't be going back. read more

My burger was amazing! This is not the Evans street of old that's for certain the area has certainly changed. The restaurant is nice and the cornbread and honey butter was phenomenal. I'd go just to eat that cornbread. The menu wasn't necessarily my cup of tea but what I had was great and goes to show that that there is something on the menu for everyone. Definitely more pricey than other restaurants (chain) in town but if you are looking for a more sophisticated atmosphere this is it. The service was great, quick, and attentive. read more

My first time to Florence and tried Town Hall with some friends from work. Decor is casual but has an upscale flair. There is an open kitchen design which I always appreciate. Check out pic of the beautiful bar area! We split the pickled shrimp app which had a pleasantly interesting taste. I couple of us had the bacon cheeseburger which was excellent, & I liked how you can swap out the truffle fries for variety of sides & salads for a mere $2 up charge. Also, the strategically extra-long toothpicks they add made it a breeze to cut in half - luv this! My co-worker got scallops and seemed to be happy. Nice sized draft beer list as well. I never imagined I'd find such a high-caliber restaurant here, but Town Hall exceeded every expectation. The open-fire cooking adds an incredible depth of flavor to the dishes, and the lighting creates the perfect cozy, upscale atmosphere. I had the lobster, shrimp, and truffle fries, and let me tell you... OMG. I needed to be rolled out of there after that meal--it was that GOOD. Every bite was rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. And the drinks? Perfectly crafted and hit just right. If my company ever gives me the P card again, you better believe I'll be back! Highly recommend--this spot is a gem! read more

After a long ride from Florida, we decided to make an overnight stay in Florence. One of the local shops recommended this place for dinner and boy are we glad we listened. Excellent food, had the scallop appetizer and tried the cornbread. Probably the best I've ever had. Yum. I got the filet, which was cooked to perfection. My husband's pork chop was also amazing. Desserts are made from scratch, in house, and if either of us had an inch of room, we would have tried one as they all looked amazing. Bartenders were so nice, welcoming and engaging. Our only negative is we don't live close enough. If you are ever in the area, you can't miss this one. Highly recommend! read more

stayed at the Hampton Inn & used Yelp to find a restaurant opened past 10pm . Very NY style place with open concept, long wooden bar & indoor seating. It was 9:45 pm so we ordered appetizer of Scallops which were the size of pretzel nuggets with a tomatoes salad adorning it. & also a Wedge salad - both delicious . When I called the Town Hall to make a reservation, Mandy seemed happy to schedule a reservation for myself and my friends. She sent a text to my phone so I could add to my calendar- so convenient! As time got closer, she sent a reminder text. Once at the restaurant she had created a card for our table with our names on it. This added a touch of excitement for those of us in our group and made us feel like the employees were equally excited to have us there. Mandy was just lovely! She communicated effectively, clearly and with professionalism while being personable. Brett greeted us at the door with a warm welcome and showed us to our table. He continued to come by and check on us during our stay. Anna was our waitress who was fun and delightful! Between Brett and Anna, we were made to feel right at home. Both worked hard (but made it appear easy) to make us feel like family! The food was out of this world! The chef and kitchen staff did excellent on preparing the food to perfection. Dinner was amazing! We were seated immediately, according to our reservation & our order was taken quickly. We started with spirit free drinks, both were delicious. Then our server recommended the deviled eggs as a fan favorite. We obliged and were not disappointed in the taste. However, I will say, I felt our oysters were a lot smaller than some of the others we saw served at other tables, so I did feel slighted in the size of our oysters (one table had oysters that were bigger than their eggs, so yeah..). It does not take away from the flavor profile, so I can't complain about that. Anyway, my rack of lamb was delicious. I mean absolutely delicious! The coconut rice was surprisingly tasty as well. I really did not expect that! I did not like the black eyed peas that were in the rice, but I did appreciate the contrast in textures. The cabbage was perfectly seasoned as well. My husband duck had a beautifully crispy skin and delicate soft meat. It was perfection on a plate. Now, the restaurant was perfectly decorated and presented as a place of peace. The tv had a fireplace screen saver and it just made it feel so cozy. I highly recommend this place. Like I said, my only problem was my oysters were so much smaller & I'm petty, lol. The first time we ate here a few years ago, it was really good. The past two or three times we've been, it's not been very good, especially given the price. I'm giving it three stars because the wait staff has always been great. This last time I ordered the salmon. It was supposed to come with farro and a dill caper burre blanc sauce. What I received was white rice with green onions. No capers or dill in the sauce and no farro. For $40 it wasn't great. It was also clearly farm raised salmon that was super fishy. This is the last time we will eat there. It's simply not worth the money. read more
