Picture this: You're craving sushi, but your friend wants Mexican food. Usually, that means a game of rock-paper-scissors to decide. Well, not anymore--King Jefe has BOTH! Mind blown, right? Not only do they serve a fusion of flavors, but their drinks are also next level. I ordered an Old Fashioned made with tequila instead of bourbon, and let me tell you--I was grinning from ear to ear after just one. The bartenders know what they're doing, and the staff is incredibly patient and friendly. The tacos were chef's kiss, and I couldn't resist getting three with rice and beans for just $17--an absolute steal. The flavors were spot on, and I left so full I had to be rolled out of there. If there's one thing I learned from this work trip, it's to trust the locals when they say, "Try this place." I never would've expected to find such a cool fusion restaurant, but I'm beyond glad I did. If you're ever in the area, King Jefe is a must-visit!

Stopped here for dinner on our way home to VA...it has a bit out of the way but wasn't too bad and it was a nice break from the 95 traffic. We were seated quickly and the waitress immediately took our drink order. The restaurant was very casual and you can tell this was a local's spot. We placed our orders and the appetizer came out in a few mins. The cheese queso dip and chips tasted fresh and hot. Once we were done, our entrees came right out. We all ordered various types of tacos and I can't remember the names of them. Everyone said the tacos were delicious and had no complaints.

Grew up in Florence & wish I knew about this place sooner but while back home visiting for the holidays, had lunch here and it was really good! Had a bowl and it was delicious, vibes inside were great and our waiter Madison was very attentive & served with a smile! Will recommend to anyone!

Another nice spot in downtown Florence. Came here for lunch per recommendation and was able to just beat the lunch crowd. I was a bit skeptical of the combination of sushi and tacos but I felt like after eating there it wasn't too bad. Overall, the experience was good. The server was very kind and food came out quickly. Food quality was good. There were some pretty creative menu options when it came to the tacos. For the future, I would suggest either going for the tacos or sushi, but both isn't really necessary.

While travelling north to Pennsylvania, I stopped here for dinner. Place is small. As a single, I sat at the bar. It is a full bar. When you sit at the bar, service is fast. Looking at the menu, of course I was looking for the hottest tacos - I found the Billy Ray. They were okay. Strange. All I got was chicken and a couple of pickles. No lettuce or any fixens. Maybe I was supposed to ask for them. Saw a shirt on the wall for sale. Almost bought one, but decided to pass.

What a great gem hiding in the middle of downtown Florence! This place is absolutely perfect. The vibe is fun (the music choice is great) with its brick walls and and colorful artwork. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there was a rather robust sushi menu alongside a ridiculously long list of tacos. We came with tacos on the brain, so we all got the three taco combo. When we ordered the chorizo Mac to go along with it, we weren't anticipating the serving to be so large! The tacos themselves were delicious; even the ones that had "crazier" combinations still worked well together. We finished off with some Bavarian crème churros, and they were delicious. Service was great. Our server took good care of us and kept our drinks filled. Her recommendations were great, too. Highly recommend this place!

This was a very neat find! It's on a random corner downtown Florence and you go inside to such a fun and hoppin spot. Our server Chris was amazing, very attentive and serious. The food was really good and I've never seen a sushi and Mexican spot which makes a bunch of crowds pleased!

Ask the Community - King Jefe Taco Bar

    Is this place expensive?

Not really expensive. Avg about $10-$20 per person depending on what you get.

    Is this restaurant kid friendly?

I consider it to be kid friendly. We took our 3 year old and 7 year old with us for dinner last Friday night. It is a fairly small space and can be loud, depending on the crowd, but that wasn't a problem for us.

It's the work of chef Elliott Moss, a Florence native who spent two decades building his reputation in Asheville, where he earned James Beard nominations for Best Chef Southeast in 2013 at The Admiral and again in 2017 as co-owner and pitmaster of Buxton Hall Barbecue. He came home to open this place with local partners Tim Norwood and Cooper Thomas. He's since also been recognized by Southern Living for the Florence spot. The whole hog is smoked over pecan wood in a custom pit right beside the dining room, sourced from local pasture-raised hogs. I had the giant pit-smoked pork steak -- slow-smoked, vinegar-pepper mopped, excellent. Sides were the BBQ hash and rice and the collard greens; the rice and mushroom gravy is also worth getting. Being attached to Seminar Brewing means a full lineup of house beers on tap alongside the barbecue. There are pool tables in the lounge for hanging out after eating, and soft serve ice cream to close things out. A serious pedigree behind the pit, backed up by the food -- whole hog barbecue, a working brewery, and a laid-back lounge setup all in one place.

A Florence standout worth returning to!…read more As a San Francisco Bay Area foodie, I'm always searching for restaurants that care about sourcing, seasonality and the entire dining experience. Town Hall checked those boxes for me a couple of years ago, so when work brought me back to Florence, I knew exactly where I wanted to eat. I looked at other options first, but nothing appealed to me at quite the same level. Town Hall's farm-driven, Southern-inspired menu, shareable plates and beautiful setting won me over again. And I'm happy to report: the second visit was every bit as memorable as the first. We started with the house-made cornbread and honey butter at our server's recommendation. Be warned: this stuff is dangerous. Hot, sweet and almost cake-like, with that honey butter melting into it. We promptly ordered another basket. Cocktails were equally impressive. I ordered a Sidecar, and when our server asked my cognac preference, my colleague volunteered Hennessy. Hennessy it was--and it made one spectacular Sidecar. For dinner, our server described a scallop special served over a shrimp étouffée-style preparation with microgreens. Sold. I paired that with the wedge salad because, well, I needed some roughage. The wedge came beautifully dressed with blue cheese, tomatoes, pickled red onion and bacon. The scallops were beautifully seared and tender, and the rich sauce underneath made the dish. My dining companions joined the fun with the house-made sausage, another order of the scallops, and a ribeye with French fries swapped in for the creamed corn--a little steak frites moment. Everything landed beautifully. What impressed me almost as much as the food was the service choreography. Our server was knowledgeable, personable and attentive without hovering. There was thoughtful table touching throughout the evening. Our dishes arrived together, and no plates disappeared while someone else was still eating. Those details may seem small, but polished hospitality lives in those details. We were far too full for dessert, so we called it a night--happy, well-fed and already talking about how good everything had been. Town Hall is the kind of restaurant I hope to find when traveling for work: locally driven, interesting food, strong cocktails, beautiful surroundings and service that understands hospitality. Two visits several years apart, and both delivered. If you're in Florence--or passing through South Carolina on your way toward the coast--Town Hall is worth making part of the trip. Life is too short not to eat well, sleep well, travel well and shop well. Get out there and find your next destination.

Wonderful service, got a table right away and waiter came by immediately to take drinks and appetizer order and go over specials of the day. I liked the interior layout and that you can watch the chefs prepare entrees while you dine. That alone can be entertaining if you are dining alone. Reminded me of Ted's Montana Grill. Now for the food..., everything came out quickly. We got the deviled eggs, and New Orleans Shrimp as appetizers and the flavors were amazing. I simply had to use the corn bread to dip up the New Orleans sauce after the shrimp were gone, it was had good! After appetizers I didn't want a large meal, so I got the daily scallops special. It was just the right amount. The scallops were grilled just right, and the sauce (the sauce again!) was flavorful with a mild spice kick to it. Blueberry sorbet for dessert, locally made. Will definitely be back when my travels take me back to Florence.

He was SO hospitable, sweet and genuinely welcoming. He gave great recommendations and did not steer us wrong. These days, it's not always easy to come across service like that, which made it even more appreciated. I ordered the Sunset Blush drink and it was delicious. We also got the cornbread and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the BEST cornbread I've ever had. So soft and flavorful. The brisket sandwich was a little dry (could be because we went during closing) but still had really good flavor. The mac and cheese though... WOW. I am very picky with mac and cheese and most places miss the mark, but this tasted homemade. Easily a 10/10. My husband got the peach bourbon burger and said it was great. The kids ate everything in sight which is always a win...lastly the cinnamon roll cheesecake for dessert... phenomenal!!! Overall such a great experience and I'm really glad we stopped in!

After driving 15 hours on March 21, 2026, my husband and I were genuinely excited to try this place and planned to take our food back to the hotel. Unfortunately, the experience started off poorly and never really recovered. First, parking is extremely limited out front, which is frustrating when you're tired and just want a quick pickup. Inside, things only got worse. The front-of-house staff was shockingly unprofessional. The employee helping us clearly didn't understand her job and had to be corrected multiple times by another staff member--something no customer should have to witness. It created confusion, delays, and zero confidence in our order. We paid about $50 for a sampler, which is not cheap, and yet the same employee argued about giving us the sides because she entered the order incorrectly. If another, more competent employee hadn't stepped in, I'm convinced it would have escalated further. Even then, we never received one of the four sides we paid for. To make matters worse, we were never asked if we wanted drinks to go, and we weren't given plates, silverware, or even BBQ sauce--basic essentials for a takeout order. That's just unacceptable. While waiting, we also watched this same employee tell three separate dine-in families to go sit and wait while she stood there rolling silverware. Completely rude and dismissive. If I had been one of those customers, I would have walked out. This is the first impression customers get, and it's a terrible reflection of how the place is run. Between the disorganization, poor communication, and outright unfriendly behavior, the service was a mess. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because the food itself was actually very good. The burnt ends and ribs were the standout--absolutely delicious. But great BBQ can't fully make up for such a frustrating and poorly managed customer experience.
