Stopped here for dinner on our way home to VA...it has a bit out of the way but wasn't too bad and it was a nice break from the 95 traffic. We were seated quickly and the waitress immediately took our drink order. The restaurant was very casual and you can tell this was a local's spot. We placed our orders and the appetizer came out in a few mins. The cheese queso dip and chips tasted fresh and hot. Once we were done, our entrees came right out. While travelling north to Pennsylvania, I stopped here for dinner. Place is small. As a single, I sat at the bar. It is a full bar. When you sit at the bar, service is fast. Looking at the menu, of course I was looking for the hottest tacos - I found the Billy Ray. They were okay. Strange. All I got was chicken and a couple of pickles. No lettuce or any fixens. What a great gem hiding in the middle of downtown Florence! This place is absolutely perfect. The vibe is fun (the music choice is great) with its brick walls and and colorful artwork. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there was a rather robust sushi menu alongside a ridiculously long list of tacos. We came with tacos on the brain, so we all got the three taco combo. When we ordered the chorizo Mac to go along with it, we weren't anticipating the serving to be so large! The tacos themselves were delicious; even the ones that had "crazier" combinations still worked well together. We finished off with some Bavarian crème churros, and they were delicious. Husband and I were looking for sushi and this place was recommended by a local. This is Americanized sushi (my favorite kind). We shared 3 rolls, the Sunshine, Cowboy and Bang Bang. We loved them all. The Cowboy had a thin slice of beef on top which I have never seen done and it was great. Service was very fast and friendly. It's kind of a hole in the wall, combo taco and sushi place which sounds weird but definitely works for groups who can't agree on where to go. They also serve poke bowls. We went at 5:15 pm and it was already busy. Can't comment on the tacos as we only got sushi. I would absolutely come here again. My only (very minor) negative was my seat wasn't real comfortable but I soon forgot about it stuffing my face with the excellent sushi. read more

This is one of my very favorite places to eat in Florence. Start with the trio of dips. The queso can't be missed and the pineapple salsa sounds weird, but is delicious. For lunch/dinner, the tacos are delicious, and small enough that you should get 2-3 so the added bonus is you get to taste a couple of different ones each time. The margaritas are also AWESOME, but notable that 2 should be your limit as they're poured pretty strong. :) Since the last time I was here, they've added the sushi bar. On today's visit, I tried the seafood ceviche and the crunch sushi roll. Ya'll. The sushi is as good as the tacos and I think I'll have a hard decision on my next time which way to go! read more

It was Taco Tuesday, so we set out in search of a Mexican restaurant on our way home from the beach. What we found was a strange fusion indeed, Mexican and Japanese. Yes, a taco-sushi joint in Florence called King Jefe Taco Bar. As the sign says it's a taco bar, but they might want to tweak that. As I write this I still have some regrets. Regret that we did not pay more attention to the sushi menu. Like I said, it was Tuesday, and this is a taco bar! There are some great sushi selections, as well as poke bowls. And as we snuck glances at the packed tables around us, the sushi dishes looked terrific, scratch made, large rolls, and lots of them. Back to the tacos, there is a great selection of tacos with clever names, such as, Uncle Terry, The Chong, Billy Ray, Gringo, etc. You are given the choice between a flour tortilla or the corn. I sometimes make my own tortillas out of maseca, and to me that's the more authentic choice, so corn it was. For which tacos, I settled on the Al Pastor, and the Dae Han. The Dae Han was topped with beef, Kimchi, Gochujang Mayo, green onions, and the Al Pastor featured pork, slaw, and a topping of pineapple salsa (which as I was to find out, proved problematic). The beef in the Dae Han was a bit dry, and while the pork in the Al Pastor was tender and moist, the taco got soggy and fell apart half way through consumption. The salsa was just to wet. And these tacos are small, like street tacos. Prices are okay, but nothing notable. For example, three small tacos and a side for $15 is not a great deal. Did I mention my side--awesome chorizo mac n cheese. It's a winner! My wife opted for a burger and a street corn. The burger was so so, and while she enjoyed the corn, it was nothing extra. Will we be back? Maybe, if we find ourselves in Florence again, but will be better shoppers; we'll check out that sushi menu for sure. My recommendation for the King is step it up on taco side of the house by making your own tacos. read more

He told me sushi is a really popular item in this mex restaurant because no one else in the area compares to their sushi. And to be honest it wasn't bad. My only complaint with the sushi is it wasn't rolled tight enough. I rather it be longer and slender than thick and short. Makes it easier to hold with chopsticks. Now the tacoooos OMG! I love the flavor combos, like this beats Tacoboy in Charleston! Asian flair on a taco.... TOTALLY BLEW MY MIND! Tasted like Vietnam but as a shrimp taco. So I know next time I'm in town, I know where I'd like to go. I would love if the eventually added some outdoor seating. That would be another great bonus to this restaurant. read more

I stopped in here for dinner after a kk g day of traveling and I must say it's a pretty cool taco bar. Based off of how busy they got at 5pm you can tell there's not very many restaurants like it! We were greeted and sat promptly. I ordered a steak quesadilla and street corn (note: everything is a la carte in the menu ) i would rate these at 2 star. There was no thrill factor to this meal at all. I probably could have made a better one at home. The street corn wasn't very good either. It's as if the flavors weren't meshing...(foodies will understand). The person I was with ordered a chimichanga and said they enjoyed it so I think I just chose a made pick (even though the waiter suggested it) Ok ok so I know what you're thinking... what DID I enjoy. . . THE SUSHI (the only reason I gave them a 3) It was so good I didn't snap a pic. We got the spider roll last min because we noticed the place getting packed and EVERYONE ordering sushi. I think it's safe to say more people frequent this spot for the drinks and sushi. Keep in mind sushi doesn't start until 5pm! I stopped in from Oregon. Qaunt little place with a full bar. Mexican food with Sushi, which should be something for everybody depending on your eating mood. I opted for the chimichanga. We were driving through and found this hidden gem in town. We ordered veggie tacos, guacamole, pineapple salsa, black bean tacos, and a veggie roll. Our waitress Avery was very sweet and helpful. The food came out so quickly! The only negative thing I can say is the veggie tacos had very few veggies in them for $4.95 but they were tasty.
