Honestly Im shocked with how impressed I am. When arriving the restaurant looks like it's connected to the lobby of a motel 6(typically a red flag) once I walked in the place was slammed, lots of people coming in for to go plates by the pound. Best Mac and cheese I've had in awhile. Also had the sausage, fried chicken, rice covered in beef stew, collards, beans, yams, and orangish vegetable a gentleman told me was kind of like a potato with more flavor( and that's exactly how I'd describe it after trying) and my favorite country dessert banana pudding! This restaurant is located inside Motel 6 beside lobby entrance. The signage outside needs to be read carefully, $7.99 for a to-go plate, not price for buffet. This should be the buffet price instead of $15 a person. I say this because the buffet consists of one hot area and the quality of food is pooor. There is a salad and dessert area as well. I love this space and I know it's not for everyone. You have to LOVE good southern cooking which is well seasoned and includes a little grease. The fried chicken is delicious. If you looking for a fancy spot with table cloths, fabric napkins and glass goblets, this is not your spot. You have usually a choice of multiple meats, vegetables and starches. Once you've finished your meal you have to rest for a moment before going to the desert table which is full of goodies. Please allow me to share there is usually fresh peach or apple cobbler. It is SO GOOD. As with most buffet someone may drop a little green in the peas or some rice fall into the meatloaf but they work hard keeping the bar stocked, hot and fresh. Special note: meal includes ice tea or lemonade. Sodas are extra and there is no refill as it's not a fountain drink but a can soda. Well for this to be a small restaurant off the side of the highway in a hotel it blew my expectation out of the water. Now don't go in expecting a five-star fancy restaurant but expect a five-star country town buffet. The food was absolutely delicious from the chicken to the beef tips. I havent had good country cooking like this since I lived in Oklahoma. There were so many options from the salad bar, soup station, dinner foods, and three separate areas serving dessert options. If I am ever in this area again, I can guarantee that I will be back. Our waitress was so sweet and brought the best sweet tea to my table. It was some of the best I ever had. This is a nondescript little buffet in with the Motel 6 just off the Interstate 95 BUT the food was actually VERY good. All the Southern classics: Fried Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Roast Chicken, Beef Tips (excellent) and Pork Sausage. Then all the southern sides: Mac N Cheese (excellent), cabbage (yum), collard greens (yum), black-eyed peas, red beans, rice, butter beans/lime beans, baked beans w sausage, salad bar. Traveling from our Myrtle beach vacation back home to Charlotte, NC and we stopped for lunch. Some food items were good, and some were not. My husband is a buffet lover however he did not go back for 2nds. The soft serve ice cream was sour. I informed the waitress and they never shut the machine down to investigate to see if the ice cream was bad. The place is run down, women's bathroom was not clean. My husband said back in the day this was the place to come while in Florence and use to travel from Cheraw and Bennettsville to eat, but now it is bad compared to what it was. He was disappointed. I'm not even sure what to say. I should start with that we found this place from the sat-nav in the rental car. Yes, it did have all your southern favorites: chicken and dumplings, collard greens, mac and cheese, corn bread, etc... plus a couple of things we couldn't recognize. There was a sign on the door that said $1 off for ladies lunch, so we qualified, yay! It was a completely unassuming place. Drab colors and dated but it smelled good and we were hungry. There's an average little salad bar. Must've had about 30 things on it like beets, cottage cheese, bacon bits, broccoli. There was also a soup cauldron with a veggie type soup that I didn't want (it's August). Onto the hot buffet! Canned corn, peas, carrots, and green beans. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, bbq chicken, pot roast, sliced and fried pork skins!!! Extremely Southern and really delicious. We ordered lemonade and sweet tea (which I've never had before) and they both were really good. For dessert, there was cake and pie but I just wanted soft serve vanilla ice cream, which was equally as delicious. Have been eating here for about 45 years. After reopening, remodeling and possibly new ownership, as of today, I will never return. The food has always been good and was today, but noticed that the cashier and kitchen worker were huddled together and looking at one particular place in the restaurant, a wooden shelf in middle of restaurant. The kitchen worker went into kitchen and came back out with a towel and popped it on a huge crawling roach in front of everyone. Horrendous. That's the word I'd use for this place. It has been here forever he says... Yeah, I can tell. I've seen abandoned buildings cleaner than this place. The waitresses try so hard but the setup is not conducive to them getting enough tips. This place is a byegone era and should be retired. I can't imagine a health inspector thinks this place is suitable to actually consume food... All it's missing is the chalk body outline in the black stained 100 year old carpet. So, it was old home week for him. This whole place is old. No place is this more visible than in the pink tile ladies bathroom. The whole place gives you the feeling that you have just stepped back in time to the 70's (or earlier) but not in a good way. I found it all a little off putting. The food was ok. I read the other reviews. They must have been written by a bunch of Yankees ! We don't get here very often because we don't live here. If you love southern food you will love their country buffet. Great fried chicken. The day we ate here they had fried fish which were cooked perfectly. The stewed tomatoes put a smile on my husbands face. Their red velvet cake made me want to go back for seconds it was so good. The servers were great always made sure our tea was filled and our empty plates were taken away.
