Ambiance

Be aware that coffee is ok to take "to go" but they want you to enjoy your meal there regardless. (Health condition or not.) The food is delicious and looks like they put time, energy and efforts in creating many yummy offerings. We enjoyed the egg sandwich's without jalapeños. The coffee is incredible! The grilled corn raspberry muffin with butter is worth the calories. Service is top notch indeed, this ground runs like a family. Ambiance is busy and those who stay eat in reasonable times so you won't have to wait long. I would recommend this place. Parking is in back (no paying and plenty). They have restrooms, I didn't use them. It's worth it to grab some yummyiness while here for sure, enjoy!

MYO Breakfast Sandwich, Sausage & Bacon

yummy food, but the wait was 1 HOUR. we got seated and placed the order at 12:20, and genuinely didn't get the food until 1:25. Im sure it will be fine otherwise, but do not go at noon. ambiance is good.

Great breakfast place off the main drag. Hearty breakfast options and friendly service. Good option for a meal to start the day

We were visiting Boothbay Harbor for Gardens AGLOW. The Tugboat Inn suggested Mama D's Cafe for breakfast so we went. It's a cute little house with plenty of parking in the rear. We were seated at a high top table near the door. I have a gluten allergy and was happy to see GF toast, Gf bagels and GF English muffins on the menu. I had an omelette with bacon. The waitress was knowledgeable about my gluten allergy and told me the potatoes were cooked on the same grill where bread is grilled, so I passed on those. My daughter had a Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries and cream. She added the real maple syrup for an additional $3. The meal was great. We enjoyed it all. We recommend Mama D's Cafe if you're in the area. Bring cash. No credit or debit is accepted.

Western omelette. It was delicious. Amazing coffee. It's definitely a place to check out. You won't be disappointed.

Delicious Western Omelette. Great coffee. You won't be disappointed. I even went to the grocery shopping to buy coffee to take home.

Simply amazing! Quaint little place for breakfast and lunch. Parking on site. Indoor outdoor seating.

Best place for breakfast, in Boothbay Harbor!

This is one of the few restaurants open year round in the quaint, coastal town on a peninsula, Boothbay Harbor, Maine. This place is down around the other side of "town" slightly heading toward East Boothbay... near the very end of the Harbor...but it's a pleasant walk on a nice day. Mama D's is a wonderful place to provide delicious fuel for the body! The customer service is very kind, helpful, polite, and prompt without being pushy. They offer quite a few gluten free choices, including english muffins ... this makes me sing alleluia when I hear they have them in stock! My two eggs were a bit overcooked (I'd asked for poached easy, and they weren't at all runny), but still acceptable, so I didn't say anything. The environment is cozy and kitschy, kind of like being in your great grandma's kitchen or dining room. At the time, there was Christmas decor, as well as the usual hats, bird houses, license plates, and many other memorabilia type things as decor. Everywhere. Even so, there was no dust that I could see, and the place was tidy and clean (as it always is whenever I've been there, which is at least a half dozen times!) Both of us enjoyed our late breakfast before heading to Camden for the next few days. We'll definitely be back, as this was our third visit in 3 months. You must definitely stop in for fuel for the body and soul!

Best place to eat breakfast in Boothbay Harbor. Lots of options ranging from omelets to French toast and including gluten-free options and a variety of coffee choices. I was able to order a delicious almond milk latte and gluten-free English muffins.

We initially were going to take a smaller table for the 5 of us, but a couple offered to move so we could push two together. Amazing and so unexpected but appreciated! We all loved our breakfasts - Happy Cakes for the kids included whipped cream, sprinkles and a piece of bacon; the croffle with blueberry compote was delicious; and the breakfast sandwich on wheatberry bread was great. The whole thing was topped off with a story from Kelly (she's also a published author!) and a treat for the kids from her treasure chest. My older two thought it was really sweet and my 8 yo was totally caught up in the story about mermaids and treasure. This was such a delightful stop, we recommend to anyone in the area!

(I appreciate when you order two dishes and switch) we had biscuits and gravy scrambled egg and French toast with bacon. Best biscuits and gravy of my life!! Coffee is so rich and delicious!! It's an intimate location (up stairs be prepared) with off street parking, clean bathrooms available. The food is so delicious, flavorful and generous portions. Luckily they do to go orders so you could call ahead and have someone with you go up the stairs or maybe if you ask and can't climb stairs they could meet you at the base of the stairs. Excellent place that's interested in spreading joy!!

Dumplings good, everything else exceptional. And we got the biggest yeasty cinnamon bun I've ever seen. Words cannot describe how decadent this was. OMG!!!! I've been coming to Boothbay for 30 years and never knew this place was there. If someone had not sent me would have thought just a bakery. It is that too. I have seen some negative reviews on service. Not fair. There is no table service. You stand at the counter till they have time to take your order. If you are eating there, they will deliver to your table. There is beautiful outside seating. And English is not their first language so patience may be required. And they are from a different culture and it to some that may translate as rude. That has not been my experience nor those lined up for their food or bakery products. A constant stream of takeout. If you like Asian food, funky place, this is it. One more thing. The order we had at most any other Asian restaurant in the area would have been double the cost. 2 entrees large portions, 2 apps and a desert for under$50 bucks!!!

I am not a doughnut person at all, but I always make an exception for apple fritters. So we bought one, and I want to emphasize the word "one" because it was sooooooo huge that it would've just been too much to have gotten more. It was enough for 3 to share, frankly. It was really large. The apple fritter was good, but I have to say, it wasn't my favorite. I've been spoiled by a place near our home (3,000 miles away) where the addition of a noticeable amount of cinnamon with huge apple chunks always steals my heart. Here, at least in the fritter we got, I didn't taste any cinnamon, and honestly, I couldn't taste any apple pieces either. Not sure what was going on. It still tasted good, but I felt like it wasn't well represented for what they claimed it to be. Again, it wasn't bad... it just wasn't great, either.

We started with onion soup, which was OUTSTANDING !! It wasn't too salty, which is often an issue but not here. The broth was a perfect blend of onion and beef flavoring, just enough cheese and croutons but not overpowering... it was divine. It might've been the best I've ever had. We also got bread service that offered lightly grilled French bread. I don't know what the deal was, but it was so unbelievably tasty, and it was so soft, too. I don't know if it was the texture or the bread flavor, but something was different... that made it so amazing. Better than usual. I wanted to eat more, but I knew I was already getting full, so we left most of it. Drat. For an entree, my husband got the Atlantic salmon in a lobster veloute with farfalle and ratatouille. I tasted it, and it was excellent. Such great flavors. I got the cioppino, which had scallops, shrimp, and haddock in a herb-infused tomato sauce. I was a little shocked because it was spicy... good flavor, but spicy, and I wasn't expecting that. I wish the waitress would've told me ahead of time, but she didn't. I ended up not eating most of it because it was a bit too much for my palate. I hate wasting food, but the truth is I wouldn't have finished it anyway. I was already full from the onion soup and 1 piece of bread. For our celebratory dinner, we also split a dessert. I had read this place is known for their blueberry pie, which we were very interested in getting. Soooooooooo glad we did because it was EXCELLENT... and yes, it was a la mode... with vanilla ice cream. There was some crystalized sugar topping on the crust, which really added to the awesomeness of this dessert. We hit pay-dirt here. This meal was the highlight of our trip to Boothbay Harbor. I hope we will be able to return to this lovely harbor town because we will make a beeline to dine at Thistle Inn again. Too bad we live so far away. This is a wonderful dining establishment, and they made our 20th anniversary even more memorable !!
