Alexis, Alexis, Alexis! Hands down, she is the epitome of a true professional hairdresser. I've…read morebeen going to her for over five years, and over that time, she's become just as much a friend as she is the person I trust with my hair. What I love most about Alexis is that she knows her stuff, and she's never afraid to tell me what I should, or definitely shouldn't, do with my hair. She has a direct, no-nonsense approach, which I absolutely appreciate, but it's always balanced by the genuinely kind heart she has. She truly listens, knows what will work, and somehow always manages to make me feel like I'm in the best hands. Five years later, I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. I'm so grateful I found her! Also a shout out to her assistant Amanda, another true gem or a girl.

I came to Deep Roots for a corrective appointment after a previous color service elsewhere left my…read morehair uneven, too light in certain areas, and generally not in a condition I felt comfortable with. Mahshid had a last-minute opening, and I booked it because I needed an experienced corrective-color specialist. Mahshid's technical skill was clear from the beginning. She quickly identified what needed to be corrected and explained the plan in a way that made sense. She did a root melt, added lowlights, adjusted the tone, and cut my hair so everything blended naturally again. The difference was significant, and the final result looked intentional, full of dimension, and much healthier. Sophie supported the entire process by keeping everything organized, assisting hands-on, checking in with me regularly, and coordinating each step so the appointment ran smoothly. Her attention to detail made a longer service feel so manageable. Ella was also assisting and shadowing and she was so sweet and kind, besides being super gentle while combing and blow drying my hair. I'd also like to acknowledge Nia, who did my consultation the week before. She gave me an honest assessment and encouraged me to take the opening with Mahshid since her own next availability was farther out. That transparency helped me make the right decision. I arrived feeling unsure about whether my hair could be corrected without more drastic measures, and I left with a result that restored both the color and my confidence, for real. I cried at the start from the disappointment on my hair, but then had happy tears at the end for the unbelievable results. This was a straightforward, professional experience with a team that clearly knows corrective work well. I did pay for my service, so the reason I'm writing this review is only because their work truly deserves so much recognition! Ps.: also sharing because if there's anyone out there who's in panic-mode with their hair (like I was), they'll know they can count on this team without hesitation. Ps2.: they have lil snacks and drinks, and the vibe and energy is just cozy and fun.

I came across a few different hairstylists but Tammy's profile caught my eye. I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with her and decided to give it a try. What can I say? I felt extremely comfortable right away in letting her cut and style my hair. She's very professional and knowledgeable. She asks lots of questions to learn your preferences and what fits you and your personality best. When I asked her questions and expressed concerns, she was quick to clarify things for me and put me at ease. She offered excellent feedback when I wondered about a specific hairstyle, how I would style it on my own and whether or not it was me :) I'm so happy and relieved to have found Tammy! I've finally found my new hairstylist after a year long of trying out different hairstylists and being disappointed. I highly recommend Tammy to everyone who asks! She's awesome!

I booked my appointment online very late at night and entered my choices for days/times. Next day I…read morereceived a response with what was available based on my choices. There were a couple of slots available for that day and the next but waited until today. I was a bit nervous booking an appointment because I have had some terrible experiences last few months after my good friend/stylist had to stop to care for her 3 gorgeous babies. It was so bad I just decided to cut my own hair. Yea, that's pretty bad though I must say I did a pretty fair job thanks to my husband who helped straighten out the back a little :) So I checked out the reviews, crossed my fingers and held my breath because I booked the appointment for a time right before my shift started. So I had NO time to "fix it" before heading in to work. Charlotte had just finished up with a client as I walked in. She was very friendly, told me to have a seat so she could sweep and then welcomed me over to her seat. She was very attentive and receptive to what I wanted done. She told me what she would be doing and I closed my eyes and and thought happy thoughts as she massaged my head during the hair washing and then again, during the start of the hair cutting. She knew I was a little apprehensive so she kept me talking and seemed very genuine when she asked me questions about my kids, and life etc. As she worked she asked me what I thought and made sure that's what I wanted. Very sweet girl. When she was done I asked her to add a little volume to the top of my flat head and without hesitation she did that and once she was all done, I LOVED it! Very happy with Charlotte who by the way added me to her Monday schedule when it's super difficult to find someone! Also very happy with Jenn who was very prompt in returning my email. She also worked with my schedule because I work nights and I need the latest appointment available so I'm sure she had to coordinate with Charlotte. I had to change one of my choices because I went out on a date with my husband and she was sweet telling me to have a great night with him. She could have just ignored that but she chose to add a little bit of personality to what could have been a very impersonal email. That says a lot to me. I'll definitely be using Charlotte's services again!

What I love most is how she really listens to what I want, and then works her magic to make it even better than I imagined. The quality of her work is consistently top-tier, and I get compliments on my hair literally everywhere I go. If you're looking for someone who knows their stuff, cares about your hair, and will make you feel fabulous--book with Mattie. You will not regret it!

From what I observe of the other customers getting different services, everything's great and I will continue to keep coming back. I don't look for or expect any frills when getting a haircut so my review is based on that perspective. From any other places in the vicinity, I haven't found anywhere that can beat them for quality, speed, and cost! For men's haircuts there are discounts as well on Tuesdays. I usually get an appointment because the place can get busy, understandably so, but if you call ahead, you can get a good estimate if you'll be waiting long or not. They are also very good about updating their social media about closures, how booked they are, etc. (e.g. especially around holidays, back to school)

My daughter was brought here less than two weeks ago by her dad, and I've never seen an end result…read morequite like this. My daughter's braiding grid is crooked, randomly spaced, and her ends weren't tucked into the braiding hair so they're dry now and fraying (causing breakage). It's been 2 years since her last review, and unfortunately, things don't appear to have improved.

Mia is a nice lady however her braiding is very substandard…read more I took my Son to her shop to have his mid back natural hair braided. 1st issue she text me several times pushing my appt time back; once I arrived she was not there. when she finally did arrive she looked puzzled and asked if I had an appt. I had to show her the text messages going back and forth. There was also another client waiting as well and she advised us that one of her braiders did not show up. My appt was with her and she asked if she could wash the other clients hair first and then start on my sons hair. I told her yes. After washing the other clients hair she proceeded braiding there hair which push our time back even more. When she finally got to my sons hair I noticed she was not braiding it in the style I ask for (Fishstyle). I showed her the photo that was previously provided to her and advised her she told me she could do this type of braiding. She took it down and started over. After going back and forth on the way the fishstyle was looking I gave up and told her it was fine. She proceeded braiding his hair. I was about to get up and leave but my Son(8 years old) begged me to stay so he could get his hair braided. I notice she was braiding very fast like she was in a rush; note she also did the previous client like this as well. Her braiding was terrible and she took no care in my sons hair. As I stated before my son has very long thick natural hair. I take great pride in caring for the state and health of my sons hair this is why it is so long and thick. Mia was ripping and pulling thru his hair with her fingers braiding very fast. All I asked for was fishstyle cornrows going to the back and she had a combination of big uneven fishstyle braids and regular braids. In addition she braided so tightly the braids were bunched up going down his back. My sons braids looked like they were weeks old. The appearance was not neat, she put little to no gel in his hair and the different combinations was awful looking. A few days later I took his braids down because I couldn't stand to see his hair in that state any further. Upon taking his braids out he experienced lots of shedding and tangles from the way she braided. This was my first experience with Africans touching my sons hair and we will be the last. I now wonder if the photos she has posted is actually her work. She told me she prides herself on being the fastest braider in Austin. Who cares about you being fast when the end result is ugly braids while ripping your clients hair out! You need to educate yourself on how to properly care for clients hair while utilizing professional products.
