Mali Vegan Thai is located on Secretthai St. (my new favorite street name in London), and is so easy to miss that I didn't see two weeks earlier when I walked down Hogarth Rd. They have a lovely small outdoor dining area that feels like a secret and we had good service throughout our meal. The bathroom is an interesting one with doors that close together and are fastened when you put a stick through it. It feels like I've entered medieval times. Thankfully I don't have to poop out the window like the guards did in the day at the Tower of London.
We shared:
Tofu salad - Not as good as larb but still good and also crispy
Sole with green beans - This was my favorite dish and I was impressed that the vegan sole actually had the texture of fish.
Crispy spring rolls - Fine, but nothing that groundbreaking
Pad kee mao - Good but not memorable except for the preponderance of button mushrooms.
Khao soi - Really good
We're not vegan but vegan Thai seems to be one of our favorite types of food. Plumeria in San Diego - one of the husband's favorites - is also vegan Thai. I think Mali is better except that it doesn't have Plumeria's amazing larb). I'm just mentioning all this in case, you know, you're eating vegan Thai food in San Diego. :)
(As it turns out Secretthai St. doesn't seem to be a street name on Google Maps so I think it was a fake sign they've put up. I know I sound stupid now but I was fooled!) read more
