DAHI BATETA POORI - Yoghurt shots
Mareike B.

My internet didnt work last night, so here is my review for Woodlands (with a few hours delay, but still oh so true): Ok, let me write this down quickly, before my body collapses in a food coma. Right now I find myself in between heaven and hell, heaven, because of the fantastic Indian food I just ate and hell because of the amount of food that I just ate. Lets put it this way: the food was so good that I just couldnt stop eating although my body probaply reached its capacities at some point around the 4th or 5th appetizier already. Joghurt shots (actual food, not drinks), Paneer Lal Mirch (Cubes of Indian cottage cheese) or Medu Vada (fried lentil doughnuts) just to name a few. Of all the main dishes I tried (we were about 11 people so there was a huge variety of flavors on the table), I think I liked the Woodlands Kofta best. The tomato gravy was just perfectly creamy and delicious. And the service? The service was just amazing. Friendly, fast and attentive. One of the waiters even presented us a lady finger at the table, because we didnt know what it was when we read the menu. Great, great, great! The interior did not blow my mind, but whatever, the dishes were delish! So here come my 5 stars for food, service and value prices.

I went with my sister, brother-in-law, and my 4 month old niece for lunch. My family had been there before and asked the proprietor to just bring a selection of dishes. We received some standard fare, like dosas, but also some unique items I'd never seen previously. Everything was great! The staff were very accommodating.

Woodlands serves great vegetarian Indian food. We started with an assemble of appetizers that was truly amazing. Everything was unique and delicious. I especially loved the yoghurt shots - you have to try those! I chose dosa for the main course and while it was rather nice, I have to admit that I liked the appetizers better, as they were much more interesting. The dosa had slightly spicy potato filling, but I personally think that it could use some more spices. Still, a very nice meal. The service was great: very helpful, always there, very attentive. The only thing that didn't like was the interior: very simple and not really stylish. It doesn't matter though, because it's still worth to come for the food itself.

Woodlands is the favoured restaurant in London for anyone who likes south Indian (Tamil Nadu) vegetarian cuisine (99% of Indian restaurants in Europe specialise in north Indian cooking and although they have lots of vegetarian dishes on the menu, few have south Indian specialities). Woodlands was opened about 20 years ago and is plain and unadorned, but the cooking and service are good, and and the food extremely tasty. South Indians like their food hotter than in the north, but not extremely so. However, everything is well spiced. Idosas, idlis, vadas and uttapams are the main dishes and are combined with sambhar (a type of dal), rasam (tamarind dal), dry and curried vegetables and pachadi (yogurt). Seasonings and herbs include coconut, peanuts, tamarind, chilies, cilantro (coriander) and fenugreek seeds. It's very usual to order a thali (see photo) which holds an assortment of small dishes including the sweets. But ordering a thali denies one the chance of having the amazing paper dosas, which are huge crispy pancakes (see photo), broken with the fingers and dipped into a spicy sauce (sambar). Mango lassi (yoghurt drink) is the best thing to drink with the meal and Indians like coffee after it. Woodlands has a small but decent wine list, but wine doesn't really go with Indian food and even less with south Indian cooking. If you really want to drink, a Kingfisher beer is best. Seating is in two areas - one as one enters and a long rather narrow room at the back. Sit in the front room for better atmosphere, but be aware of the cold wind from the door!

Widely regarded as one of the city's most popular vegan restaurants, it delivers food that is satisfying, hearty, and packed with flavour. I ordered the Chick+n Caesar Burger, which featured a plant-based chick+n patty, Caesar mayonnaise, lettuce, and red onion relish. My wife chose the Beetroot Carrot Vada Burger, made with a masala-spiced beetroot and carrot patty, mango lime slaw, green chutney, and tamarind chutney. Both burgers were served with a generous portion of fries and made for a very filling meal. What stood out most was the quality of the flavours and the portion sizes. Every ingredient felt thoughtfully chosen, and the combinations worked exceptionally well together. As someone who regularly eats meat, I was genuinely impressed by the texture and flavour of the Chick+n Caesar Burger. We also ordered two fresh juices: the Cucumber, Celery & Apple and the Pineapple, Apple, Ginger & Turmeric. Both were refreshing and paired perfectly with the meal. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or simply looking to try something different, Mildreds is well worth a visit. The menu is creative, the food is delicious, and the overall experience demonstrates just how good plant-based dining can be. Highly recommended if you're visiting London and exploring the Covent Garden area. Service was great - super friendly staff Ambiance was nice - a chilled, quiet, progressive crowd

The mains were so good. We had the Korean fried chicken burger (which was HUGE, by the way), the beetroot burger, and the tofu salad. The burgers were very good, but boy, when I took a bite of my friend's salad, I fell in love. It was refreshing, the flavors were yum, and I'm drooling a bit rn thinking about it. The staff were extremely quick, kind, and sweet. There's lots of seating, although the downstairs area was quite packed. Overall, I loved the ambience of the place!

I have been to two different locations, but they were both gorgeous spots, like the look and vibe is top notch. The drinks? Kitschy and weird as hell. Do they taste good though? Live up to the price and the hype? YES. 1000% The drinks are fun and funny and most have some sort of little quirk...color changing, in a weird vessel, tasty sweet garnishes, etc. But they also all taste amazing. Some are a show to watch them being made, some are diy mixed at the table by you. I was brought here the first time by a family friend who lives in London, and when I returned a year and a half later, with our hotel around the corner from an Alchemist, I made ALL my friends on the trip go here on our first night. And we all returned at least once more during our week in the city. Service was good and patient with our large group, food was decent...I simply have had an amazing time every time I have gone to the Alchemist and if there was one in my hometown I would be out of house and home giving them all my money. Highly HIGHLY recommend.

The location is fantastic, the customer service was excellent, and the atmosphere made for a really enjoyable breakfast. I started with a cappuccino and added salted caramel, but honestly, the cappuccino was so good it didn't even need it. It was smooth, rich, and perfectly made on its own. For breakfast, I ordered the Eggs Benedict. They offer two versions: one with pulled beef and one Florentine. As someone from the US who's a bit of an Eggs Benedict snob, I've tried countless versions over the years, and pulled beef just wasn't something I could picture working with it. I went with the Florentine and customized it by adding bacon, avocado, and a side of sausage. One thing I've learned while visiting the UK is that the sausages are much larger than what I'm used to back home! I honestly could have skipped it because it was so filling. The Benedict itself was unique--the base was almost like a buttery croissant instead of a traditional English muffin, and it came with pickled red onions, which was an interesting touch. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and I especially enjoyed it with the added bacon. The food was fresh, high quality, and beautifully prepared. There was plenty of seating both inside and outside, but I chose to sit outside and enjoy some people watching, which made for a relaxing start to the day. Overall, a great breakfast spot with delicious food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. I'd definitely come back.

Maybe my friend over-sold it and got my expectations up too high, because I was pretty disappointed in this dinner. We were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. We said still and were brought out a £4.50 bottle. I know it's common to charge for water in Europe, so I didn't think much about it until I noticed that everyone else around us had refillable glass bottles -- free tap water that we were never even told was an option. We were seated downstairs at a large communal table. I don't necessarily mind that, but it was so loud that having a conversation was very difficult. My cocktail was delicious, but so tiny. The wine list was decent -- a good mix of options at various price points. As for the food, it was very hit or miss. The mushroom starter and the pork main dish were delicious. Unfortunately, the two most expensive dishes were disappointing. The prawns had great flavor, but a strangely soft, mushy texture. For me, the flavor made the weird texture okay, but my husband couldn't get over the mushiness of the shrimp and hated this dish. The sea bream was very bland and dry -- highly disappointing for the most expensive item on the menu. We ended on a high note with the affogato dessert (Yum!), but for such an expensive meal, there were just a few too many misses for us.
