Patella- enough food for 3-4 people with leftovers to boot

Service was fantastic! Great Argentinian food and good selection of wines and beers. We had a party of nine and our food was prepared and ready very quickly. They have amazing desserts. Nice little tucked away place. The only gripe I have is finding parking. That was our biggest challenge

Papas Provenzal

My fiance and I came to Malbec Market for an early Anniversary celebration, booked the time and seating through Opentable and voila - all we needed to do was show up and enjoy what they have to offer. The place is simple but chic, the table setting is lovely, elevated but not forced. A casual smart restaurant that has the appeal of a sophisticated neighborhood market restaurant but yet not stuffy and inauthentic - the staff are courteous and friendly. I very much appreciate their attention to detail and their effort to make their customer experience comfortable and memorable, since it's summer, the timed misters are a welcome sight in their Al Fresco section of the restaurant, they also have heaters installed for the colder months. The appetizers are well portioned for 2 and even maybe 3, we were excited to try their Pulpo, however, my fiance is allergic to pine nuts so we opted for the Rabas which is their version of the calamari, lightly fried to golden deliciousness, it was fantastic! We also ordered a side of Papas Provenzal - perfectly fried with a balanced infusion of seasoning, garlic and parsley, definitely a must! For the main dish, we both had the Entraña Al Malbec - Absolutely tender and delicious! Beautifully seasoned and infused with red wine reduction, served with mushrooms, onions. mashed potato and sauteed vegetables - a definite must try or for consideration! Overall, Malbec Market did not disappoint! It was such a lovely experience, great food, wonderful people and convenient location, a definite two thumbs up.

Did NOT know that this place is so close to my grandfather's. I really should take him here one day. It's a nice in between for fancier dining and something for a casual dinner date. Service was friendly, welcoming, and very attentive. Not sure if it was for a special night or event, but they had the entire Beatles discography playing too. I don't think I've had Argentinian food aside from empanadas, milanesa, and some street/snack food, so this was real neat dining experience for me. We got some complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Simple and delicious but try not to fill up on these! I was already super full from before and I also wanted dessert but did not have enough stomach space. Maybe next time! We got the: 1) Picada de Chorizos: -We paid a bit extra for the upgrade so that we can also get the mollejas aka the grilled veal sweet breads. -This was NOT the sweet bread I was expecting. I legit thought it was going to be like a sweet roll bread, so this was my first time having sweet bread and it was tender meat instead! Very interesting. -This plate of different sausages were all natural with no artificial ingredients or hormones. -It included Argentinian chorizo, red chorizo, thin parrillera (meaning BBQ or grilled, I believe) sausage, morcilla (blood sausage). -Each had a unique taste ranging from slightly salty, to peppery, some which were a bit richer in taste, mixes of spices and pepper, etc. -It also came with a side of potato salad too. -Nice variety and spread of unique meats. 2) Sorrentinos: -These are stuffed round pasta with pieces of ham, smoked mozzarella, asparagus, mushrooms, and a yummy orange sauce (most likely a mix of cream and tomato/cheese). -Different types of yummy mushrooms are mixed with this pasta and there are 5 large, sizeable pieces. -Meats were tender and not too salty. -Creamy and rich sauce. Great dish. I'd love to stop by here again one day!

Swung by during Dine LA week & had a fantastic time! Food was delicious and the wine was so good we bought a bottle to enjoy at home later Highlights were the tuna appetizer & the chicken cutlet. We opted to be seated outside and while it was a bit to toasty at first the shade & fans were great and then as the sun set it was beautiful. Yes it's right off the major street with traffic but the curtains help feel it a bit more peaceful. Will definitely be back!

Tortilla de Papas

So excited I finally got to try this spot! Prices are a bit on the higher end, but the wine selection is great! Our service was a bit slow, but super friendly. To start we had the tortilla de papas! The frittata and aioli were a delicious pair! We also had the prosciutto pizza. It was a bit underdone, but still very flavorful and cheesy. Overall, had a pleasant experience!

I've had this restaurant on my list for a long time, but I had not been close by to stop in. This past weekend we had a long trip and decided to stop by and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is located in the Main Street of a cute neighborhood. I was able to find street parking nearby. The ambience is very welcoming and you have the option to sit in their sidewalk patio or inside. This place is perfect for every occasion. My husband and I split two appetizers into entrées because we wanted to try multiple things . We started with the carpaccio al trufo which is thinly sliced beef topped with truffles, olive oil, red onions, olive oil, arugula salad, and grated cheese. This was absolutely lovely. Then we had the Jamón Serrano with tomato toast. This too was tasty but I wish they gave you more of the bread. 2 pieces is not enough. Argentinians are known for cooking amazing steaks, so of course we had to try one. We ordered the Ojo de Bife al Chimichurri and it was perfectly cooked to order. I really could've eaten this by myself. The Noquis al Pesto pasta dish was just ok. I will say that the server tried to guide me to get another entree and I still decided to try it. Just to be clear it wasn't bad but I'm sure there were better dishes on the menu. Let this be a lesson to listen to the servers I wish I lived closer so I could stop by more often . This will definitely be on my list for every time I make it out to the area.

After having been to Argentina 5x and falling in love with the culture, this place acts as an island extension of one of my favorite countries. The people who run the restaurant are from Argentina and the customs observed here are very Argentine. I ordered a choripan and a milanesa. Both were probably the best I've had in LA. No necesito decirte más sobre la comida porque la experiencia vas a tener acá será la más auténtica que es posible en Los Ángeles. Buen provecho!

Parrilada, great for 3-4 people!

Amazing food and service! Don't skip on the empanadas, and the beef milanesa is the best one I've had in town. The parrillada is a great option to share, the highlight going to the sausages and the skirt steak! Also don't skip on the sautéed veggies: they're legit the best broccoli and cauliflower I've ever had, and they don't share the recipe (I've tried lol), so you know they're cooking something special.

I've been here twice and both times I enjoyed it . Everything here is tasty, the only thing I have problem with is that their food is too oily. I have tried a lot of things here , including appetizers and sides. My fav thing is their breaded chicken , and the side of carrots. I liked the calamari too. Their service is kind of mediocre but it does the job . I will try their other items :)

I would not go as far as using words like "best ever" - our pasta was slightly overcooked but nevertheless tasty. We shared two pizzas which were good, even very good when you consider its price (we spent, all in, $65 for the three of us and would have been well fed with less than $50, we just ordered too much. The ambiance is OK - it's an Italian pizzeria that possibly stands for decades, and it stands exactly for what is wants to be. It's no place I would pick for a date or any special celebration, more like a place to share bites with friends when in the area. I wish to point out the service. I LOVED the fact that the guy was folding his pizza takeaway boxes but still alert to anyone wanting to make eye-contact. So no "can I clear the plates" or "would you care for desert" cut into our conversation, but immediately there when you were looking out for service. Well done. We'll be back soon. Would I do a 30+ min detour just to go here (mandatory in my rating scheme for five stars?. Unlikely. But if you want to be properly fed and are possibly on a budget, I highly recommend Folliero's.

Hippo Rolls - 9.1 The rolls were really moist and tasty. The inside was soft while the exterior had a nice crust. The honey butter paired perfectly with the rolls. Garden Lettuces - 8.8 The green were really fresh and crispy. I have said in a ton of my reviews that the best salads have a creamy cheese, nut, fruit and good vinaigrette. Which, this salad was missing one of those aspects, cheese. The walnuts, dill, shallot and radish vinaigrette were good and went together well. However, a creamy cheese or even some saltiness from a Parmesan cheese would have made this salad really good. Herbed Ricotta Tortelloni - 9.1 Hippo makes their pastas in house and you can tell. The texture and chew of their pastas are great, that goes for both of the pasta dishes we ordered. The sauce which accompanied the tortelloni was flavorful and light. The ricotta within the pasta creamy and had a good consistency. Pork Ragu Fettuccine - 8.9 Again, the pasta itself was fabulous. The pork was really good and really good deep, rich flavor. However, the dish needed an acid. It needed something to break up the richness and boldness of the sauce and meat. It didn't come up Parmesan, which was a little different. In my opinion it needed the Parmesan to add some saltiness. Barbecued Honey Balsamic Hanger Steak - 9.5 This was second best dish and bite of food we had there. Which shouldn't mean you should downplay this dish, it's more of a credit to the desserts we had. The steak was delicious and tender. The method in which they cooked the steak added to its flavor. The juice that the steak released mixed into the white beans. The white beans were creamy and greatly paired with the steak. If I went back to Hippo I would try new items but I would have to order this again as well. Desserts - Two of the Best We Ever Had! Chocolate Torte Cheesecake - 9.8 I will leave a little wiggle room incase I have a better cheesecake but it's going to be tough. My Wife and I love cheesecake and also love torte. Which she makes homemade sometimes. The combination of the two made this cheesecake the best we ever had. The flavor and texture of the chocolate was perfect. The crust and top layer of the cheese were also delicious. I could say a million things and post a thousand photos of this cheesecake and it still wouldn't be enough to describe how great it is. Butterscotch Budino - 9.8 This is the second butterscotch budino we have had. The first one was good however, we had this one and realized there are levels to butterscotch budino and budinos as a whole. The texure and creaminess were perfect. The butterscotch flavor was great without being too rich. I don't know what had a better flavor and consistency, this or the cheesecake. Easily the two of the best desserts we ever had. We actually try spoon fulls with the cheesecake and torte together. When you pair the chocolate butterscotch cheesecake flavors, the desserts got even better. I think I was hovering above my body at one point.

This is quite possibly my new favorite restaurant…read more Amiga Amore is located on very busy York Blvd in Highland Park. Parking is street so give yourself some extra time to find a spot. Reservations were easily made online and ambiance was very trendy inside. We ate in the front of the restaurant which houses a few tables. I'm aware they do have a gorgeous patio in the back that opens up and seats way more, but mosquitoes LOVE me so hard pass this time of year! The food was SPECTACULAR. There wasn't a dish I didn't like and most of them I absolutely LOVED. I started off with a pistachio horchata - so delicious and nutty with the right amount of creaminess that didn't feel too heavy. We got into the zucchini bread next and WOOOOW. This was one of my faves of the night. There was this gorgeous salsa macha paired with whipped ricotta... absolutely divine. So well balanced - I needed an entire loaf of this. Next up was the avocado Caesar salad which was a special for the night! It was a traditional Caesar salad with panko crusted deep fried avocado. I could not believe how good this was. The crust of the panko and the warmth of the fried avocado paired with the tangy Caesar salad dressing was such amazing balance and a delight to eat. We got the chicken tinga arancini next. Perfect fried balls of deliciousness! I believe they were filled with Mexican rice(?), chicken, and a good amount of cheese. The cheese pull was next level, and the tomato sauce provided enough acidity to balance the otherwise very rich arancini. For pastas, we tried the elote agnolotti and the huitlacoche cacio e pepe. I LOVED the agnolotti. It was a perfect rendition with all of the elote additions (cheese, corn, spices) and if you've grown up eating elote like me, it's a true homage to the street corn! The cacio e pepe came with a 63C egg which is mixed in with the pasta to provide a sauce. I've never had huitlacoche either - it's corn smut! The dish was very very earthy which I liked and the noodles were cooked well. Of course I couldn't leave without dessert! This might have been my favorite dish of the night. We got a key lime pie with chocolate crust and fresh mangos. 1000000/10!!! I am still dreaming about this slice of pie. I think I ate 90% of it. The chocolate crust was such a nice pairing with both the mango and key lime - I was so pleasantly surprised at how well they meshed. It's safe to say I will be back and will be spreading the gospel of Amiga Amore!

Shortly after ordering multiple drinks and several plates of food, another staff member came to our table and began yelling at us, threatening to kick us out for being "rude" to staff, even though we had done nothing but order our food and drinks. What made it even more uncomfortable was watching other guests openly smoking weed while staff said nothing, yet our group felt watched, accused, and singled out the entire time. As the only Latino group sitting outside, the experience left us feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and discriminated against. As a fellow restaurant owner, I understand hospitality and house policies, which is why this treatment was especially disappointing. Came specifically to get the cheese pizza and they didn't put anything other than a thick layer of parm and plain tomato paste on it... A salty, stinky, thick chunky layer of hot parm, over plain acidic tomato paste, sprinkled with MORE fresh parm. Really surprised and taken back by how awful it tasted tbh. Not an ounce of any other cheese so I figured they must have changed the menu because I didn't read the description prior to ordering assuming it was the same as always.... Which as it turns out, it was still supposed to be a the cheese pizza that was with mozzarella as it had always been... My partner ordered the tagliatelle which he's enjoyed before but this time he said it was so bland and tasted like something was missing and bizarrely spicy. The gamble which has been on going for a couple years of potentially getting an awful meal here makes it hard to justify going back. Which is a shame cuz when it's good it's really great! It's very obvious there are either issues with consist stocking of necessary ingredients in the kitchen and they don't want to tell people when they're out of something, completely omitting from dishes or replacing with something else hoping people won't notice or there is someone in that kitchen who is not familiar in the slightest with Italian food. I hope that they eventually get the kitchen sorted and really do wish them the best!

I think it would work better if the order that it is serve was reversed. I ended up not finishing the other two usually just because I'm a little disappointed after the big wow from the tagliatelle. For the tiramisu, I think it needs an adjustment in plating as well since all the coffee is pooled on the bottom which leaves the top feeling kinda dry and not having enough coffee flavor. No detail is overlooked. Beautiful design -- reminds me of what your Italian grandma's dining room would look like if she had great taste. We took a Lyft since the parking situation is tough (but there is a paid lot down the street) and we were running late.I called and left message that we were running 15 minutes late and they got my voicemail and they were great about. Table was available right away. Cocktails were impressive - and we started with a dirty martini and a Negroni blanco. The garlic bread made with Bub & Grandma's bread is a clear winner. Our server Emerson was top notch and steered us through the menu and drinks and was informative and friendly as very professional. When he'd walk through dining room, he was scanning to see if anyone was trying to catch his eye. And when I did he came right over. None of this look straight ahead stuff I sometimes see when it's a busy night. You can get out of Donna's for a reasonable price if you stick to garlic bread, salad and one of their excellent pasta dishes (5 of the dishes are in the $25-$28 range). We splurged and got the scampi (from France) what a sauce, truffle gnocchi, amazing chicken Marsala with amazing mushroom sauce $32) and the Cesar salad was delicious and not mailed in. We ordered 1 dessert (panna cotta with pistachio brittle and fresh figs) and they brought a tiramisu and tiny glasses of their own limoncello out on the house. We also tried 1 glass of their special vermouth since we are vermouth lovers. A++++ experience all round and it was a high level of ingredients and food -- chef and his team are top notch. I now need to find out who's the chef in that kitchen because they've built an excellent team. Donna's slyly calls itself just a "red sauce Italian restaurant" but I'd say that's a real understatement...and I think it's a great date night or small group place because it's intimate and you can hear your table partners talk. I don't recall any music playing - just the warm brown background noise of fun conversation. We ate early (my preference these days) and if you don't see any openings for reservations, ask Resy to give you an alert -- you'll get notified when reservations open up. Emerson said they always hold some tables for walk ins. PS -- I normally don't leave such long reviews, but I have some friends who are chefs and who own restaurants - and when I see other Yelp reviews where someone leaves a one star because the hostess was allegedly rude when everything else is great -- I just hate to see how it can affect a restaurant. I have no relationship with this restaurant at all. I don't know any anyone who works in it or owns any part of it, but I just don't like to see people abuse the reviews -- the restaurant business is tough as it is. And as someone who has worked downtown and driven through Echo Park for 30 years - I think Donna's is a great addition to Echo Park.

I would say the food is about a 6/10 but the service is a 10/10. The food is a bit too salty and it…read moreseemed like a common note across multiple neighboring tables. The highlight was definitely the Fusili ala vodka pasta, though we asked for well-cooked rather than al dente and it was still pretty al dente. There is ample street parking in and around the place but it is in a bit of a sketchy area, so be careful. The garlic bread is made of sourdough and it comes with a lot of cheese, which makes it even more sour. The tomato risotto is a 4/10 - it just tasted like cheese and the broccolini is a 6/10 - its pretty unflavorful and uncooked. We ended the night with a shot of limoncello and that was the perfect palette cleanser.
