If you're the type who enjoys the 9-yards like orange/lemon slices in the water, aromatherapy, pretty decor, etc. etc., then this place is not for you. I'll admit, yes, there are times when I want the foo-foo (is that how you spell that?) stuff, to be pampered, to feel like a princess, but there more often times when I just want a good old pedicure, foot scrubbing, just in and out. And I am sooooo thrilled that I may have found my new go to spot! I've tried them all... Smiley's, Tip and Toe, Princess Nails... and I admit, I'm a tough cookie. I'm picky about my toes - it irritates me to no end when someone doing my pedicure just grabs a pumice stone, rubs it across my foot a couple of times and that's it. It's like really?!?!?! Do you not feel and see the dry skin on my heels?! HELLO!!! And that's the type of half-a-- service I've had at some of the other places. Barely even cutting my toe nails, rubbing lotion up and down my leg, and no cuticle cutting. WHAAT?!?!
Well, so thanks to you yelpers... I decided to check out Makiki Nails. When I first walked in, it wasn't impressive. It's just basic. The towels they use are ratty, the massage chairs are old. But hey.... I didn't come for the aesthetics. I needed a pedicure... bad! So I saw Mary. In my mind, I was thinking here we go.... but I was impressed. I was happy. She took her time to clean my toes, cuticles and all. She immediately noticed that I had ingrown toe nails... and boy did I ( thanks to some of the other morons who cut my nails at the other pedicure places). She meticulously went and made sure my ingrown's were out and my toes were no longer in pain. And then came the foot cleaning, scrubbing. I was impressed, she pulled out a new razor blade before scrapping my feet bottoms. And she didn't just rub a pumice on my feet. She really scrubbed, and they are smooth! Totally happy. This is probably one of the few times I've tried a new place and walked out satisfied and not irritated. Oh, and I even got a little design on my toe - and that too, some places, they just don't know what they are doing . She did a great job with the design - I'm super picky about that too... I don't want the upside toothpick 5 dots that make a flower, I want an actual design, and Mary made a nice design on my toe! The whole experience was no muss no fuss.
And the creme de la creme... the PRICE! Holy batman. With tax...for a pedi and and design on my toes... $28.27. Can't beat that. My toes look and feel happy (especially with my ingrowns gone).
Now we'll see how long the polish lasts... hopefully at least 3 weeks!
But I will definitely go back!! read more
