Gel nails and regular pedicure with nail art (*1 week after appointment and looking great!)
    Kate L.

Just moved to Makiki from Diamond Head area. Loved the nail salon (Creative Nails) by my condo over there, but friends told me I had to try Makiki Nails. It's a short walk, so I figured I had to give them a go! I went with a friend and we made an appointment for a weekday evening. We were able to sit right away. The ladies were so kind and accommodating. I really wanted a white matte look on my nails. I opted for gel, which I hadn't done in a long while. They look awesome! I also got a regular pedicure with some nail art. Super happy with both. My friend got a pedicure with nail art. She was very happy as well. The ladies all remembered her from previous visits and we talked story. It's a good vibe in there! I'm stoked to live nearby this nail salon with fabulous service and good prices as well! Highly recommend! (*Photo taken 1 week after appointment). I will definitely be going back here to see these ladies and keep my nails looking good. Planning to bring the bf, too, because he wants his first mani/pedi;)

Gel nail that comes right off after a week

I been going to Mary, first a couple years ago, and than I started going back again! Called to make an appointment and the manager said that I couldn't ask for a specific person to service me its first come first serve! I was a bit upset but went anyway and was able to get serviced by Mary! She does good work and has amazing customer service! However, the material they use there may be outdated and my nail just comes right off! The manager I do not know her name has a bad attitude and doesn't allow to request a specific tech! The hardner they put on your gel nails is old and doesn't stay! I've only experienced this at Makiki nails! Please get rid of your expired stuff and use better quality stuff! If I'm going pay for my nails to be done then I expect them to last longer than a week before they start coming off! And I do not mean chip off, I mean come off at the cuticle!!

Picture #1: shows the poor ability to blend the acrylic with the outgrow original set. It's so visible and hard to miss.

I went to get a fill for my full acrylic. Pretty simple request. The girl seemed to hate her job that should've been the red flag for me. Ugh! I don't know why I continue to go to this place the level of service provided is so crappy. Hate that it's convenient to where I live and that it's always not busy. But the outcome is so jacked up that I end up unhappy with their service. Picture #1: shows the poor ability to blend the acrylic with the outgrow original set. It's so visible and hard to miss. Picture #2: shows that the replacement acrylic tip she used was not even the same as the rest of fingers. She painted on the French tip instead of match up the similar acrylic tip as the originals.

Outcome. Don't know any other place who does French tips like this.

Requested for a simple French tip and even showed a pic...she couldn't even perform that. And was a gel fill for $48. Very dissatisfied with the outcome. Wouldn't recommend. Service felt rushed and just not the effort into the design I wanted. Her name was Tina

Very nice and clean nail spa. My girlfriend enjoys coming here to do her nails and get a mani and pedi as well. Very friendly staff. The staff does a good job every time she comes to have herself pampered. Plus the prices are very reasonable too.

I will probably not return here. The business was not very clean (fingernails on the counter, little cockroaches running around). My gel manicure looked good, but a few days later the gel on my thumbs cracked, and one of the jewels fell off Update: I got a nail bed infection a few days later

They destroyed my cuticles - cut down wayyy too far even after I warmed them to be gentle.

Man I hate to do this because I've been going here for 12 YEARS - but the last couple experiences have been awful. Finally, after years of recommending this place, I would say to avoid unless all you care about is a cheap deal. This last visit - there were ants crawling all over the sinks and drying station. The drying station table cloth is filthy- disgusting. The nail brushes in the barbicide are super old and worn out. I had an appointment with Tracey- she's honestly the BEST one there- awesome at fills- but less customer oriented with me lately. She's kind of grumpy honestly! She snapped at me for pulling a hair off my finger while my nails were "still wet." Maybe she's overworked lately?! Anyway- the worst is - I got a pedi with the other girl- long hair- been there forever. I usually about her because she ALWAYS is too rough. I took a chance and told her- I have foot pain- severe -- from years of ballet and now running in heels for events at work, and I have problems specifically with losing my big toenail and pain that feels like ingrown toenails. I pointed out my big toes and where it's sensitive and asked her to be gentle and avoid. She didn't listen one bit. She cut my nail so far down along the cuticle I cried out on pain and BLED. And was still bleeding an hour later. To top it off, she was in such a rush, it wasn't relaxing at all. I think I'd rather do my own pedis rather than come back and I'm sooo sad to say that. It was my go to for so longggg!!! Maybe I need to just stick to Tracey and bring her something to cheer her up!

I'm mixed because while my gel nails do seem to be done well (we'll see in a couple of days), I've never been to a place that makes me bleed from being overly aggressive. I understand if I had a slight ingrown toe nail she may have tried to gently lift it or let me know...but I was shocked when I thought that she was continuously pulling and ripping at what I thought was skin, was actually my "ingrown" toe nail. After looking at my toe I was confused because it really jus looked like she was ripping at the natural place your toe goes into your foot. She then gave no warning and put on a liquid that burned tremendously, telling me it was for sanitizing. Nice ladies, but I'd rather not leave worried if I'm going to get an infection from being made to bleed. Update: 4 days later Yup I got an infection thank you Makiki nails

I'm absolutely in love with my nails! Lily (one of the owners) truly exceeded my expectations,…read moreevery-time. Been going here for years now and every time I have an appointment I always look forward to it and very excited. From the moment I sat down, she was so warm, professional, and detail-oriented. She took her time to understand exactly what I wanted and executed it flawlessly. The shape is perfect, the ombré blend is so smooth and clean, and the finish is super glossy and elegant. I've gotten so many compliments already! You can really tell she takes pride in her work -- nothing felt rushed, and every detail was carefully done. Not only is her work beautiful, but their new location was super spacious, clean, hygienic, and comfortable, which is so important to me. She's incredibly talented and consistent! If you're looking for a nail tech who delivers high-quality, stunning results every single time -- she's the one. Or any one at this salon I Highly, highly recommend!

It was really easy to make an appointment via text and phone. I paid $75 for my manicure ($25 manicure, $45 gel french tip, $5 nail fix) and my pedicure was $37 for a basic. The new salon is brand new and everything is very clean. Ruby did my pedicure and Alex did my manicure. They were extremely busy while we were there but it seemed like it ran really smoothly. Everyone was pleasant enough but not much talking and it did feel a little rushed at times but also understanding that they were trying to accommodate all 4 of us on short notice. Ruby cut slightly too deep into the side of my left big toe and she apologized but it was very noticeable swollen and painful the next day compared to my other toe so that's not ideal. She was very meticulous with the polish application though! Alex did a great job with my deep french manicure. He was very quick and efficient with putting on an acrylic tip onto my thumb that was shorter than the rest of my nails. He was careful to not have the gel touch my skin and seemed to be the go-to for frenchies. The girl working the front desk didn't seem to be in a good mood. I don't usually mind but she was very short with her responses and not particularly nice or helpful when I asked a few questions regarding the pricing and point system. There is plenty of street parking available and it was easy to find. They're very popular so expect to be a slight wait and it's definitely a more sterile and clinically run salon than a welcoming one. I didn't see anyone with a walk-in so I would always recommend making an appointment!

It's been a year!…read more About a year ago, I decided to trim my own hair. Let's just say... it didn't go well The haircut was so bad that I lived with it for an entire year before finally deciding it was time to let a professional fix it. The funniest part? I even took that haircut with me on a trip to New York City, ...and believe it or not, no one in New York City even sneered! I honestly think providence brought me here. On my way to Ala Moana Center, I happened to notice Lily's Hair Salon and thought, "That's interesting. I've never noticed that place before." Just before that, I had called Macy's to make an appointment at their salon. The phone rang, then a recording said the number was no longer in service. When I went looking for the salon anyway, I discovered it had actually closed during the pandemic. So believe it or not, I made the round trip back to Lily's. When I first walked in, the woman at the front desk told me their hairstylist was busy and suggested I try the salon upstairs. I did, only to find they were closed. I came back downstairs and told her I didn't mind waiting about 20 minutes. While I waited, I happily took advantage of their massage chair. After physical therapy, that massage chair felt wonderful. Before long, Min Hee was ready for me. She started with an assessment, washed my hair, took another careful look at it, cut it, and finished with a blow dry so she could see exactly how it naturally lays. What I appreciated most was that she listened. The first thing she did after I sat down was trim the ends to the length I wanted. She never once tried to convince me to cut my hair much shorter than I was comfortable with. I showed her how I like to clip my hair up while still having enough length for a little dangling ponytail, and we agreed to preserve that length while cleaning up the overall shape. Now I have bangs again, my haircut is even and balanced, and my hair finally looks polished instead of like the DIY haircut I'd been trying to live with for the past year My haircut was $65. There is a $2 fee if you pay by credit card. Parking was easy, with six free stalls right in front of the salon. The salon itself isn't fancy, but it's clean, comfortable, and more than good enough. There's a restroom inside on the left, and they also offer complimentary water and snacks. Min Hee is the salon's full-time hairstylist and also provides nail services. There are two additional hairstylists who work part-time on their own schedules. Everyone I interacted with was pleasant, courteous, and genuinely helpful. They all seem to know who their customers are, so you won't get asked, "Why are you wanting to use our restroom?" That may sound like a small thing, but it contributes to the welcoming atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Thank you, Min Hee, for giving me such a great haircut and a wonderful experience. I'm very happy I found your salon.

For me, I felt as though the work was rushed but still came out great! I had requested a gel x set but had to inform my nail tech because she was unaware and was about to give me acrylic. Not sure if she wasn't informed or if she automatically assumed. I did have a picture to go off of for design and the tech was very good at mimicking the design. Only issue I had was that she didn't clarify color scheme with me prior to starting and I had to stop her or ask for a different colors on multiple occasions. For instance what she thought was white I wanted a pastel pink since the whole look focused on a pastel palette. When I did correct the coloring I also felt as though I was in the wrong because she was going based on the "picture" but never asked or clarified with me what I had wanted. Overall I would still go back to get my nails done here just make sure you clarify the things you want prior to the nails being done with your tech especially if they don't ask you first
