Despite being on the smaller side, this nail salon makes sure everyone is getting quality service. I made an appointment for 12pm and arrived a little early but it wasn't a problem- they let me sit in the massage chairs until they were ready. Lynn was efficient, meticulous, and kind about helping me choose a nail design that would fit my work needs and last a longer time. BEST NAILS IN HONOLULU! Arriving Hot off a plane from California, not having my nails done was a big-time stressor. After checking a few different places and laughing at the ridiculous prices, I happen to stop into Tami-A Nails. Right away, Yen greeted me with a huge smile and actually listen to what I wanted done. There was no pressure and no upsell. She and Tammy worked on my nails and my toes and even suggested that I do the dip. Again, no pressure and no up sale. Their work was phenomenal, they were extremely sweet, they made sure that my chair was comfortable with pillows and a towel, and I got a deluxe hand and foot massage and the price was phenomenal. I will be sharing this information with all my friends and I look forward to coming back a few more times this year and going straight in to see them. They have a customer for life. Thank you, Tammy and thank you Yen! I love my nails, and I can't wait to come back and try a different color in style. If you are in the Honolulu area, don't waste your time going anywhere else, as a tourist popping in, the price was amazing. Jenny was my nail tech and did an amazing job! My feet were ROUGH! I hadn't had a pedicure in months and since I'm from Oregon, I've been in shoes since September! She started with a regular treatment and halfway said "I'm gonna give you the deluxe, ok!?" I had to keep from LOL'ing because inwardly I knew it's what I should have asked for in the beginning. Top notch service, beautiful work, affordable prices. I went in the day after the Honolulu marathon for some much needed pampering and foot care. Walked in with no appointment. I was very fortunate to be helped by Tami herself. I'm never good at picking my color, so I just said something Christmas-y. Tami selected colors for me that were perfect. For my toes it was sparkly red with the Hawaiian touch of a hibiscus. For my nails it was an ombre of a similar color. Perfect choice since it will look great the whole holiday season. Last time I was here was 2007, remembered how great the service was. I needed to get a full set of acrylic with tips and gel polish, I was a walk in and they said to wait 15 mins. Anna was my manicurist and did an amazing job, better than I expected. I'm picky about acrylic nail application and shape, I told Anna square shape and she did the best square shape I've ever had! I received 5 star service with an amazing massage. Holly was excellent, I had to rush and she really encouraged me to stay so my toes could fully dry and so did her colleague, but I HAD to leave out. I of course smudged my nails later. The next morning I came back and ask for a touch up and Holly was able to get me in! She is so sweet and very professional making sure the quality of her work reflects her standards. She took her time, fixed everything perfectly, and made me feel completely taken care of. While visiting HI, we wanted to get our nails done for an upcoming wedding on the island. We found this place on Yelp based on the reviews. The place is the size of a walk in closet. There's no bathroom. I'm not even sure where these workers go when they need a bathroom! When you need to walk toward the back of this "closet", the workers' chairs are in the way as they're working on customers. That's how cramped this place is. And it's super old and dumpy looking. Their towels are impossibly stained. The chairs are uncomfortable and threadbare. However, they do a good job on the nails for a competitive price. So if you are comfortable getting service in a place that cries for a major renovation, then I do recommend this place. Btw, the worker who did my nails was not very honest. She told me their credit card machine was broken and I had to pay in cash. She even steered me towards an ATM down the street. I got the cash to pay her and sat down waiting for my friend who was getting her nails done. After sitting down, another worker was taking a customer's CREDIT CARD BECASue the machine was never broken. I don't like being lied to, just because the worker prefers customers pay in cash. I gave her a nice tip anyway and she never said thank you. Guess she made her goal and I was to be forgotten the minute the cash changed hands. So no pleasantries at this place when it comes to customer service. read more

I can't remember the last time I took the time to actually write a review for a business. I picked this nail salon after seeing the positive reviews online. We were misled on the pricing of our pedicures and manicures and despite clear signage with pricing reflected, we had multiple unexpected additional charges at the end. My feet did not get scrubbed AT all, and it was explained to me that I would have had to pay extra for that. Who gets a pedicure without expecting your feet to be scrubbed as a part of a basic pedicure? We were charged an additional $20 for gel polish for each service although she verbally had said it was $5 extra. Total was $150 for 2 BASIC pedicures (with one of us not have any scrubbing of caluses) and 1 basic manicure. A bit much. Won't return. read more

Called to ask if they had room for a mani/pedi for me and a pedi for my husband and they said yes and come on over. We arrived 30 minutes later and were seated right away. Five pedi chairs and separate mani stations. They are busy and I can see why; they are very thorough and high quality. Don't cheap out and get regular polish. Get the gel, so it lasts! Many colors and finishes to choose from. They tell you the price in advance and don't push if you don't want something. Tami did my manicure and she's fantastic. I can see why the salon has been there for 24 years. Thank you for the beautiful nails for our 25th wedding anniversary! We will always return when we are here. Second time coming to Tami-A on my trips to Hawaii, and I haven't been disappointed! All the staff here are so nice and attentive. Anna did my nails this time and she did an amazing job!! I came in thinking I would just get a plain gel color but she was excited about my long nails and suggested ombré with a hibiscus flower for only a bit more additional price. I couldn't say no. She also gave me a run down on her family and asked multiple questions about how long I was staying and where and what I did for a living. My entire mission while in that chair was to not cry or flinch. When she was done, I felt comfortable concluding she had not one single day of training in massage therapy. My bill was $60. My wife's was $42 for gel plus $25 for two flowers. All in all, we left laughing (and limping), but $150 lighter than when we went in.

What I enjoyed: The therapists were very professional and respectful of our preferences. They sent a questionnaire ahead of time to understand what we wanted, and when I emailed with some additional requests, they were able to accommodate everything, which I really appreciated. The massage room itself was beautiful, with a big bathtub for a coconut bath after the treatment and its own bathroom. The amenities were great too: snacks, drinks, fruits, a dry sauna, steam sauna, and a waiting lounge overlooking the ocean with lay-down chairs. The lounge wasn't busy at all, and you could easily spend an hour there relaxing. Booking was easy via email and the staff was very responsive. Valet parking is included. What could've been better: The jacuzzi was out of order during our visit, and I wasn't informed ahead of time. I had to ask for a prorated rate, and the person checking us out initially didn't want to give the discount until their manager stepped in. For a big hotel-affiliated spa, I expected better communication and consistency on something like this. The showers also ran out of bath products (either shampoo or body wash), and the locker area was missing some amenities I'd expect at this price point, like makeup remover and skincare beyond generic body lotion. I also had trouble getting a receipt with my name on it initially, though they eventually sent one. One other thing to note: the spa is right above the hotel beach and pool area, so you can hear people rather than just ocean waves or spa music. It didn't bother me too much, but it's something to be aware of if you're expecting total tranquility. Despite these issues, it was still a wonderful experience and I'd recommend it for a special occasion!

Taking a leisurely stroll around Maunakea Marketplace (because I had free street parking on a Sunday) my friend and I paused in front of Instyle Hair & Nails because the place didn't look busy and I had some time. There were a couple of staff sitting outside, taking a break, so, I approached slowly and said, "Pedicure?" I was cheerfully greeted and shown to a massage chair. The nice gal, Deb, placed a new plastic liner in the basin and started the warm water. She asked if it was too hot and adjusted the temperature. She started to help me (telling me the difference in price between regular polish for $30 and gel polish which lasts longer for $45), but another customer asked for her, so she switched me off to someone else. It's okay because the new gal (didn't get her name) was very careful and thorough. She took her time and did a good job! I sat for a couple of hours because I haven't paid attention to my feet for months. Haha! (I'm kind of a last minute, busy person and will get moving if I can't stand it anymore.) Anyway, here are my observations: Greeting regular customers is a good sign! The four female workers were cheerful and kind to everyone, especially kupuna! The hair stylist asked (in a nice tone of voice) how a certain customer wanted her hair cut and told her that next time - don't cut your hair yourself because you can't see behind your head (she cut her hair to her scalp!). The hairstylist explained politely to the customer about her unique needs and showed her options on how to style her own hair! That's good service! Another example: A little girl came in with her mom. The staff treated them really well. The mom asked for gel polish for the daughter and the staff said they cannot do it because it might burn her daughter's young skin - plus, her fingers and nails are still growing, so, it's not a good idea to put strong chemicals on the area. Wow! That's being responsible and honest! I think I spent over two hours here because the technician paid attention to my dry cuticles, cracked nail, and other issues. She verified the color of gel polish two times before application. Thank you! I was just going to give four stars, but after hours of hard work, the worker still gave me a mini leg/foot massage and brief hot towel to wipe off excess lotion on my legs! She didn't use pumice stone on me (maybe I didn't need it), but she did repeat the acetone/cotton/foil treatment to the stubborn nails several times - instead of using the electric file technique. I appreciate the gentle approach and will most likely return on a future Sunday!

I've been here a few times before but was so glad to come here recently. It has been so hot my daughter and I wanted to chop off some hair. They did a great job on my daughter's hair first, cutting off all her dead ends and "thinning" out her hair since she has so much of it. They then did the same for me, mine was much shorter though. Since we both have very wavy hair, they took the time to straighten our hair to make sure it was even which took a lot of time for them. I only paid $70 for both of us, considering how much attention they paid to us I do think that is a very fair price. Will be back in a year when I get tired of my hair again lol!
