If I was in the past 1 and half year ago I would tell you to hit up Maki for that dragon crunch, maki, crunch roll yummy! Even have that Miso soup for free (what u must be pulling my leg !!) but it was for real free.....free ! The cashier by name of Stephanie was very kind and just always provided great customer service. Even the scary looking lady that had a mean look on her face was pretty nice (shocker I know!!!) And the place was small but cozy and had the most interesting objects displayed to have culture vibe to it. Now fast forward....new owners the place likes like it could be in a new movie of insidious 4. Seriously, walls painted in red and not in a lively vibrant way. The staff.....1 out 5 someone will actual ask how my day is or how was the sushi. I also had my order either delayed or completely wrong(this occurred 3 time in the row in the same 2 weeks) and never received apologize just another excuse. The sushi were great even bomb but now they are just okay (well I paid for it I guess I will eat it.... ) I have completed stop coming here since the new year of 2016. To leave off on a good note the only one sushi master always had smile on his face and communicated with his guest fairly nice :) I wish the best for maki because you were once great and I am sure you can achieve it once more. i've never ordered any sushi here..i always order the salmon teriyaki bento box..which comes with mixed tempura, california rolls, and a salad for $9.99 they don't put much teriyaki sauce so you'll have to ask for more. you could also phone in an order to-go or come in and order to-go. the place is small so it can get crowed at times when it gets busy. overall this place is okay..i only go here cuz its so close to home. read more

This place is a good stand-by for whenever I have an urge for Japanese food but not much time for lunch. I usually get some sort of bento box for lunch, whether it's teri chicken or bee or salmon. Once in a while I get just the teri (meat) bowl. the food isn't the world's greatest but it is very consistently good, and it fills me up. When I don't have much time for lunch I would call ahead and my food is always ready for pick up when I get there. For the times I have time to sit down, the service is very good and the food comes pretty quickly. The sushi here is better than okay, probably rate it as pretty good. So overall I would give it 3, maybe 3.5 stars. Maki Plus may never blow me away with its food, but it also doesn't let me down. The only negative thing I could say about this place is the excessive amount of smoke odor that just lingers inside the restaurant. read more

We had been to this restaurant before while in Oxnard, and had been routed by our apps to the wrong place on our attempted second visit. (We landed at Oh Sushi, very mediocre in comparison). The next day, we tried again, and were rewarded. Although, at lunch, the place was packed, they found a small table in back for us. We did not come for ambiance, though. We came for the food. My husband is Japanese-American and very picky about Japanese food. He judges by how well the rice is prepared (excellent), how tasty and hot is the miso soup (again, perfect), and about all of the ingredients in his bento box (almost perfect; the tempura batter was a little thick for his tastes, but overall, it was better than elsewhere.). I judge by the rolls. I've had two rolls, both excellent. I was amazed at how fast the service was, given a completely full place, one server, one cook, and one sushi chef. We got our food right away. We will be looking forward to coming back here every time we are back in Oxnard. read more

Came here with my gf, and the place is not to big or to small. It's a very heart-warming environment. My gf loves sushi so she ordered salmon, and tuna, which were Fresh. I ordered some Rolls, Monkey brain and lobster roll. The plate presentation is nice and the monkey brain is fried perfectly, not overdone. Been to Maki Plus several times as hubby is in love with its teriyaki chicken bowl. I've tried their sushi rolls and they never disappoint me with their freshness. Though I've tasted more flavorful sushi in San Diego, this is one of the best that I can find in Oxnard. Been to other Japanese restaurants in the neighbourhood too but decided to stick to Maki Plus as its food and service are consistently good and the price is cheap. read more

Had not been here for over a year but had craving for chicken teriyaki and sushi. Used to be greeted and welcomed. This time it was "to go or here". Paid extra for chicken breast only to be served such dried out chicken I could not even stab it with my fork. It was obviously left over from lunch and microwaved. Beware all Maki Plus Sushi customers.... I've never had a complain about this place before but apparently they have switched ownership and are now owned by Yokozuna sushi. The cook was incredibly rude. The coward told his waitress to tell us he would not serve us because they were closed. He refused to tell us himself. i love this place! i'm never in town anymore, but when i am.. i seem to find myself ordering a beef bowl from maki plus for pick-up. they give you a lot for what you're paying for with the beef bowls! the veggies in their beef bowls are way better than yoshinoyas to me, not all fake looking.. its fresh. i always get the washington roll or maki roll, very yummy! the only thing i could say about their sushi is that they could be a lil bit bigger for their price. but still tasty and they have a huge selection of sushi/rolls!! also, friendly service! read more

Worst service ever. Went for dinner with a friend the first time I've ever been there. The waiter was younger and he would not come up to our table. The closest he got was when he had to put our drinks down. With our food he leaned across the middle aisle and we had to reach and grab our plates from him. We couldn't get a refill because we had no idea where he went. Then the waiter just left walked out and got into his car. So we didn't get refills nor did we get napkins. Then we waited about 20 minutes for the check and finally got tired of waiting and had to get up and ask for it. Then we waiting again for the guy to come back but he was too busy talking to the group of people in back of us so we just got up and took it to him. It was the worst experience I've ever had and I'm pretty sure it was because we are gay. I've never been treated like that before. I would never go back. read more

I ordered the sashimi special, which was good and tasty, with large portions, but my meal was ruined by a TV blaring Fox News. I mean, really, come on, guys, try to create a little atmosphere in your restaurant. If you want a cheap lunch and enjoy teriyaki chicken and california rolls this place will serve your needs. As far as fresh sushi goes, you should know better then to enter this tiny restaurant in a derelict strip mall, next door to a laundry mat. i unfortunately did not know better. Due to its location, within walking distance of my home. I decided to give it a try hoping against hope that it could be a hidden gem. I had yellow tail sushimi that nearly made me sick, I literally had to spit it into my napkin. In addition to the lack of freshness, their menu was really confusing, they didn't have small sushimi orders that I am accustomed to. You have to order large orders if you wanted sushimi, and the sushi options were few and over priced. Especially considering they almost made me puke. The chef was by no means oriental nor did seem very friendly. Even tho I was at the sushi bar, all orders had to go through the waitress, whom i assume is the owner. I can see the appeal for its regulars (assuming they don't like fresh fish) as the owner was very nice and had no problem removing the yellow tail from my bill. I would also imagine that they have some good rolls that do not include raw fish. read more

Maki Plus is a little hole in the wall, but it is good! We use to always go to fisherman's Sushi or Sushi Ichiban, but ever since we found this place we said bye-bye to the others. It is not a fancy place at all. It is small and can get crouded if really busy. We go almost every Friday or every other and it is never too packed. My kids enjoy the complimentary California Rolls and the owner and all other employees are very nice. They are always very pleasant when we eat there. The reason why we choose Maki Plus over the other fancier places is 1. The food is good. 2. The prices beat all others. 3. The portion size you get for the price is excellent! read more

This is a really cheap place for Japanese cuisine, even if the ones preparing the food aren't even Japanese. I like the low prices, but they need to be a bit more generous on the raw fish. My salmon pieces on the rainbow roll were like 1 millimeter THIN and I am 100% sure they were not low on raw fish, I took a little glance and saw like 2 whole slabs of salmon. Hmmph. read more
