Mediocre. Went with my husband and my daughter and all 3 of us were disappointed. It wasn't the worst we've ever had but it is over-priced for an under-whelming dining experience. Dining area needs updating, the tables are wobbly with uncomfortable chairs, there's no air conditioning (it was hot and muggy). Server seemed like she was either counting down the days to a vacation or it was the 1 year anniversary of someone's passing. Sushi was SUPER mediocre and even though there weren't any baked/warm rolls ordered, everything arrived at separate times with a VERY long delay in between. 3 seems too high and 2 too low. If you want cheap food that tastes good this is the place for you. I also get the dinner combo. That's always a solid choice. And the sushi rolls are good for what you're paying for. The real bang for your buck. If you do eat inside I would avoid the "water" they give you. It tasted disgusting, like they didn't fully rinse the cup they gave me. Staff is slow but friendly. I'd recommend the soft shell crab, gyoza, firecracker roll, rose roll, and teriyaki chicken bento box. read more

We were trying to find sushi close to Heritage Square and found this place. Very pleasantly surprised by the prices, as it was probably about 30% less than we are used to paying. The bento my wife got was surprisingly large portion for the $9, the salmon was a proper 4-5oz filet. I ordered a couple of rolls, the Sensual Pleasure roll and the Jalapeno Crunchy roll. All of the food came out pretty quickly. The crunchy roll had a lot more crunch on it than I had anticipated, but otherwise was pretty good. The Sensual Pleasure roll was great, spicy scallops and spicy tuna together made my day. I'll have to ask our local places to make me something similar. Overall a pretty solid place at a great price. ThI service was extremely terrible. We didn't get checked on on offered refills on water. It wasn't busy in there. In addition the server was rude. She threw away my plate without asking me if I wanted my food to go. There was still enough for another meal. It's just common courtesy to ask if I was done. I guess also partly my fault for being in conversation with my friend. The food was good on what I got to eat which was just some of the chicken teriyaki. I'm pretty disappointed because that was money down the drain. The restaurant was clean and I wasn't really welcomed until 10 mins later. This is just unprofessional behavior. I came to Yasubay's with my homegirl Liz for lunch and since Sumo in Ventura is a bit of a drive, I decide we come here for sushi :) We ordered the Oxnard roll, Rainbow roll and a simple California roll. Our meal came with their salad (love their tangy dressing) and miso soup. Rolls are reasonably priced ranging from $5-$10 each. The variety of fish on the Rainbow roll surprisingly didn't taste very fresh and the seaweed in the California roll tasted stiff to bite through. Oxnard roll was delicious because it had the crunch on the outside lol Service was somewhat slow since it seemed like only 3 employees running the restaurant and they were inside the kitchen or at the sushi bar/front counter where it's difficult to catch their attention. I'd say my luncheon was OK but in the past, I've tried their lunch bento box for $7.95, which is such tasty and filling meal, as well as their chicken udon for $5.50, which was still steaming hot when I brought it home. These were the good items of Yasubay's and maybe I should just keep ordering the usual items to go :) read more

Also, the price was really cheap and the flavor is way too good for the price. We ordered Baked roll, Firecracker roll, Spider roll, shrimp tempura, sushi plate, and veggie tempura. It's in a tiny strip mall on Saviers in Oxnard. They only had 2 or 3 people working from what I could see. Could hear the clanking in the kitchen area. Not attentive enough. Ordered Gyoza, but it was too spicy. Requested no pepper and they gave us red pepper flakes and spicy sauce. Tempura was delish. Not enough flavor in ramen soup. Very bland. Needed to add salt. Little chicken. Price is nice, but the service isn't worth it!!! Got 1 star for the best Tempura, not for the service. Waiting for bill, is taking some time. Dishes seem to take presidence over us. And to go orders seem to be handled first. ;-( Do not go here despite the fact that them there's some poor it is delicious the attitude of the owner is Unforgivable. The woman at the front snapped at me and told me that I should have come up to the front to pay for my bill that they do not come to you to give you the bill. I said you should have informed us that since we told you we had never been here before you should have told us what the standards and the rules were. My absolute favorite thing to order there is their bento box combo because it's so delicious and such a great value. You get an entree, a California roll, rice, miso soup, a salad, and a small mixed tempura shrimp and veggies platter, all for 8.95! I can't get over how yummy the coconut shrimp was!!!! It was sweet, but not tooth achingly sweet. I think the next time, I'll ask them to cook it a little longer so it'll be crispier (I like crispy!) But, if you simply love sushi and can appreciate good sushi and a simple menu, this place is for you My favorite is the sushi bento or any of the other bentos for that matter. First off, I'd like to say that I had high hopes for this place but me giving this place two stars is me being NICE. When my husband and I entered the establishment, it was blazing hot compared to the actual weather outside. While we were greeted at the door and were handed menus, it took over 20 minutes for the waitress to come and take our orders. Then it took her an additional fifteen minutes to give us water. While I'm an understanding person, there was literally only my husband and myself, and another group of three people in the whole entire restaurant. So I find it hard to believe it takes over 35 minutes to take an order and serve drinks with that many people and a full staffed kitchen. Our appetizer was served cold, when it was a dynamite entree. It was lacking in so many ways, that I guess they had no choice but to saturate it entirely in mayonnaise to make up for its inadequate flavor. Our waitress, while I get people have bad days... her attitude really grated on my nerves and how she served food was more as if she HATED being there. I had ordered a spicy tuna bowl, which had very little spicy tuna and no taste of spicy at all. I think the redeeming factor was the soup and my husband's lunch box. Overall, I'm pretty salty over this establishment because I felt as if the servers and the chefs just didn't really care to even be present or want to cook. If you are ever in South Oxnard and you are trying to get to the North side via Saviers road, there is no reason to miss this restaurant. For the most part you will be at 5 point traffic for a good 20 minutes. Yasubay is about a block away from this intersection. I always noticed the restaurant while i was on the road and always thought about grabbing something to eat. I went with my brother to get some sushi. The restaurant, when we went was not packed but it was active. Even though it looks a little sketchy from the front, the inside is really comfortable, the decoration is very minimalistic, there is a soft field to the walls, and one or two paintings that blend to the restaurant. It is that and then the wooden tables. the decorations work for the restaurant. Ok the food I ordered a spider roll, and a dragon roll, my brother ordered a Yasubay roll and I've had a sunset roll before. Each roll comes with a free salad and a free miso soup. That's a huge plus because I hate it when sushi bars do not give it for free or you have to order it. The soup was good, however I was disappointed because it did not have tofu in it. But other than that it tasted good, being it was a cold afternoon. The spider roll and the dragon roll were really good, I'm a fan of soft shelve crab and eel, so I was really happy. The spider roll especially, it had that good crunch that I love to feel in my sushi roll. The dragon roll as well full of flavor, the eel was good the the sushi was good. The Yasubay and sunset roll were more disappointing, they did not have as much flavor as the other ones, but still they were good. There's a wide variety of sushi that you can choose, so I guess they have options if you like the more bland taste or the more flavorful taste. Anyways I will give it 4 stars because I actually see myself coming here over and over when ever I'm craving some sushi that it's near by. I can't say it's the best sushi because I can deff. say that I've had better. But again I totally see myself coming here. Let me say something about this small shopping center though. This is probably the most eclectic strip mall per square foot in all of Ventura County. The tiny strip mall shows the diversity that SoCal is all about. There are about ten small stores, and here you find Yasubay a Japanese restaurant, a Vietnamese noodle shop, a Mexican restaurant, and a Bakery. A hidden Gem in Oxnard for a fact. People have this image of Oxnard, but once you lift the layer and see what Oxnd is about, you discover gems like this one. Strip malls like these are more often seen in Urban centers like Los Angeles or SF, but in Ventura and Santa Barbara County, I must say that I love the south west corner of Saviers and Wolff Street! read more
