If you ask em to go out for sushi this is the spot I'm going to recommend and hit again, and again, and again. They boast a huge selection of maki rolls that can hit so many people's dietary restrictions, or palates. Our kids had quite a few they enjoyed as well! The tempura is hot and perfectly crisp. We love the shrimp and vegetable tempura the best. The sashimi our friend ordered was amazing! Served on a bed of string vegetable that was the perfect palate cleanser. We also tried the edamame beans which were lightly salted, very tasty, and quite a large serving. We also had a chance to try the grilled squid which was super good as well! Parking is available right close but since this is near Whyte Ave you just need to drive around a little to find the free spots. There totally is a baby change table in the bathroom too. I love that this place has friendly staff, and is usually not too crazy busy on a weeknight. So we were able to bring our littles here and not feel bad disturbing other tables. This is on the top of my list for favorite Sashimi place in the city. Their "boat of Sashimi" says 24 pieces, but I have had it 3 times so far, and each time I have counted 28... not a complaint at all! The fish is fresh and delicious! The service is fast and polite! The restaurant is clean and the sushi bar is open to veiw the preparation if that is your thing! I have always enjoyed going here for a full tummy of fresh fish; everytime I go here, I am so hooked on their Sashimi, I tend to forget they offer other Vietnamese dishes as well, such as many different choices of Vermacelli, phô, sushi, and cooked meats; among other options. Haven't been here in such a long time for dine in. Came on a Saturday night around 8:30pm and it was not busy. I was surprised as they had changed the interior of this restaurant and it looks fantastic! A little bit Parisian now but more open feel. The staff as always are friendly and get you water right away. We ordered some tuna and salmon sashimi, bbq eel roll, and spicy scallop roll. We also had green tea on the side which felt like our pot was never ending! The sashimi tasted delicious, melt in your mouth. It was a good portion size, I think about 5 pieces of each. The rolls were both very fairly priced around $11-$12. The size of the rolls are not so consistently cut but I don't mind that too much. The only one thing that was bothering us was the music station of choice. It was a very strange kind of smooth jazz version of popular music songs. Came here with the fam jam last week after a fun filled Whyte Ave shopping day. I have to say that we weren't as impressed as we had remembered. The roll prices seem to have all increased from our last visit but then again so had the cost of life. Our daughter gobbled up the green onion cake and spring rolls. We opted for maki rolls. The spicy tuna was decent and the grilled chicken teriyaki was a hit with the kiddo. The dragon eyes felt very heavy on the rice side. I was really craving sashimi but my dining partners were not... alas, next time. Big thumbs up for having fresh fruit bubble tea options. Maki Maki had great reviews so decided to try it out. Big mistake. Our hostess/server greeted us right away but did she not want our business or doesn't believe their food was good?? Such a lackluster server & we needed to encourage her to promote their food. She, however, was really bubbly & engaging with the debit/credit machine to pay our bill. Miso soup: uneventful. At least it wasn't watered down. Lots of seaweed & tofu.. Salmon sashimi: $$$ for average sized slices but fresh. The sushi chef needs a course in presentation.. 2 uncut romaine leaves doesn't make a dish presentable. Rainbow roll: mushy sushi rice, skimpy fish covering rice roll and 3 slivers of avocado. Tempura: only one large platter of vegetables with 3 shrimp available on menu. Watch out...it's not tempura but a greasy thick batter. I had to peel all the batter off to find the shrimp, 1 yam slice, 1 carrot slice and then the exposed items were soaking in grease. It was like a game...what do you think this batter blob was. Another spot I have visited frequently, and for some reason, never reviewed. Maki Maki is a unique restaurant, which accurately describes its cuisine as "Vietnamese Japanese Fusion." They serve sushi, classic Japanese, as well as Pho and other Vietnamese dishes, and they are all wonderfully prepared and presented. For years I was a "sushi snob" and had little time for modern takes on classic Edomae, preferring the rigid discipline of the traditional Japanese Sushi Masters. Restaurants like Maki Maki have brought me around to another point of view, that one can veer away from the discipline, but still serve delicious and artful food, with a hint of whimsy. For a recent birthday dinner, Sushi was the preferred choice, and Maki Maki got the nod as the venue, largely because they were open late. :P We had a reservation, which was a good plan. They were busy on this Saturday night, but the service did not reflect that at all. We were exceptionally well taken care of, from the moment we stepped through the door, until we left. We ordered some Saki and some Green Tea, along with some Edamame to start out, and and then dug into the menu to pick out what we 4 would share. We ended up ordering: Mixed Tempura (with an added Prawn) 2 x Nigiri Samplers 5 pc. (enough for everyone.) Maki Maki Roll Erotic Roll The food arrived in stages at appropriate intervals, and while we thought we may want to order more, that turned out not to be the case. The first was the Tempura, which was a huge portion, perfectly cooked. The Nigiri followed, and as we were getting into that, the Maki rolls arrived to the party. The Nigiri were smaller in the sampler, but still screaming fresh and delicious. The Maki rolls were larger than what I see in most restaurants, and were nothing short of amazing. The big winner of the night was the Maki Maki roll, which played it's part as namesake dish to perfection. The Erotic Roll (c'mon... we had to...) was also excellent, but the "Ecstasy Sauce" that accompanied it was simply sublime. We finished every bite, with the exception of the Edamame, which was such a large portion, I took it home. When we were finished, leaning back in our seats, our server showed up at the table with 2 pieces of Cheesecake, with candles in, in recognition that 2 of us were celebrating birthdays. A beautiful personal touch, and a damn fine cheesecake. At the end of it all, our bill came to just over $100, including tax, to feed 4 people an amazing meal. It's been at least 2 years since I've been here mostly because of covid. They've definitely done some renovations making this place a comfortable atmosphere to go out with friends or on a date! We had a great experience, the sushi was delicious and we had good service too. You do require a vaccination passport for those that need to know. They have an open area you can view as they prepare the sushi fresh to order. One of my friends had the sashimi which she said was excellent. Our table shared some vegetable tempura which was really nice, I love tempura! There's a very large menu so they probably have something for every sushi lover. Three stars is the most this place deserves. Overall the prices are good to excellent but the food quality is just not there. For sushi, that can be a little scary. I don't think I would ever get sashimi here. My first visit was with a large group at around 10pm on a Friday. We were the only party in the place on a Friday night. Remember that this is a restaurant with a lounge just off Whyte. That didn't bode well. It turns out this was the fanciest of my visits with the cooks including orchids on the plate for decoration. The table was full of tempura, rainbow rolls, spicy scallops rolls, Mexican rolls, etc. I was surprised to see some rolls around $5-8 per 6-8 piece rolls. Aside from what appeared to be a bullet hole in the glass partition and some mediocre ramen, the group was fairly pleased. The next visit I came for the dragon eye roll which is one of their regular specials. Gone were the orchids. It came out sliced in pieces of all different widths. There was no attempt at precision or uniformity which is unlike any sushi I have ever had. The rice was thick in some places, thin in others. Even supermarket sushi looks more professional. The roll was OK but not as good as the last visit. Probably would skip this in the future. On my most recent visit I tried the Vietnamese section of the menu. I had the pho lunch special that had every meat offering including tendon and tripe (my personal favourites). Having read another pho lover's review, I thought I was ready for the large serving size. I was not. The bowl was huge! Excessive, really. I enjoyed the pho at the start but found it didn't have the flavours required to maintain interest as the bowl went on. I found the broth a little murky. I would say it is worth trying if you like pho. It may be your perfect bowl even it is isn't mine. It would be tough to give a better rating. Maki Maki is probably my favourite sushi place in Edmonton. Everything that I've ever tried is always so fresh and I've never been disappointed. My personal favourites are the volcano rolls and the dynamite rolls, and believe me there are tons to choose from on the menu. The restaurant isn't super loud even if it's busy and the food always comes out really quick. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and can help with recommendations if you're not sure what to try. There is a parking lot at the back of the restaurant, so you need to know your license plate so it can be registered in the restaurant. This place also offers Vietnamese cuisine as well, I've personally never tried these dishes but I love that they have different choices for customers. So this is a Vietnamese and Japanese restaurant hybrid so it offers food that can satisfy most people's diets and desires. For example on my most recent visit here, I had Deluxe Sashimi, while the rest of my group ate Vietnamese food or other cooked fare. I was rather happy with my Deluxe Sashimi: good large pieces of fish, though perhaps less of my favourite fish than I would normally like. I also liked the amount of carrot and lettuce garnishes on my plate (the orchid flower decorating my plate was also a nice touch). That said, there are better restaurants out there for Japanese food. The Vietnamese food is often a better deal and most prefer the maki to the sashimi options there... but it's not a bad restaurant. I've driven by this place many times over the years and have always noticed how busy they are. Sunday evening just happened to be the day where it worked for my friend and I to meet up for supper and we're glad we did. We walked away very full from our selection of combo c and the daily special of dragon eyes roll. As a first time customer, I did feel a bit rushed from the first server to make a selection before actually forming some questions about the menu. It was probably how we ended up with so much food that two people could barely finish it all. We didn't realize how large the dragon eyes roll would be. The roll itself was twice the width of what a normal roll would be. I don't consider myself too novice of a chopstick user, but both of us ended up eating that roll with our hands. We couldn't figure out how to accomplish consuming it without it exploding on us due to the physical size of the roll. Also when the boat was dropped off with our combo c we were left guessing what was what. Between the two of us we had enough knowledge to deduct what each item was but in other sushi locations it's pretty common that they let you know what they are placing in front of you. Our waitress changed while we were there and that is probably a good thing as then we were checked on, offered more water and a refill on hot water for our tea. After all, we were there a considerable amount of time trying to devour all that was in front of us. We almost accomplished it too... Only one piece of dragon eyes left. I do have to mention that I was really glad I selected the restaurant side as I thought the booths were extremely comfortable to sit in and the decor was lovely to look at while waiting on my friend. If you do park in their parking lot, be sure to register at the till when you walk in. Apparently they've had problems recently with a lot of people parking in their lot that are not patrons, so this is their solution to manage that situation. However, I parked right in front of the restaurant and there's always plenty of other street parking options. The service is always flawless and quick and the servers are smiley and friendly and make sure your order is exactly how you prefer. GREAT SERVICE EVERY TIME!! I always order the #208 pho (a little bit of everything) The portion is ENORMOUS and only the most skilled pho eaters can finish it on the best of days. Massive amounts of fresh beef, tripe and tendon and a broth so savory I actually crave it for days afterwards . They don't make a ready made spicy broth, which I prefer, so I get a complimentary side of chili oil, which I highly recommend. As a starter, I often order Avocado rolls. Their massive hunks of perfectly ripened avocado rolled inside-out style with tempura flakes inside to give it some extra cripsy texture and make this dish a meal in itself. Maki Maki is an excellent, affordable, and unique dining experience. First of all, there is ample parking, which is rare for a Whyte Avenue restaurant. Second, both Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine is served here. Yes, that means you can get some sushi along with your steaming bowl of pho. I had an avocado roll, because I love vegetarian sushi and avocado. The roll was the perfect size, with a large chunk of avocado in the centre, surrounded by crispy tempura bits. I also had a bowl of pho tai, which is rare steak in beef broth. The bowl was huge and the meat was tender. Best of all, the broth was perfectly seasoned and beefy - it definitely had several layers of flavour. And at around $10, the pho was easily amongst the most affordable item on the menu. Also on the extensive menu is a plethora of different kinds of sushi, sashimi, and vermicelli bowls. My companion had a stir fried teriyaki beef udon platter. The beef was quite flavourful and the udon was cooked perfectly. There are lunch specials, some of which include bubble tea, a full assortment of beers and other drinks, as well as desserts. This review is specifically for the Japanese portion of the menu. There is also a Vietnamese and Western menu (pho and hamburgers, anyone?). I am always wary of places that have more than one kind of cuisine on its menu, and this place was no exception. We love sashimi and maki. The maki was average (see photos), nothing that really blew my mind, and the rice was mushy and generally there was too much of it. The wasabi paste was hit or miss - we got some blobs that weren't spicy at all, and others that were super spicy. The deluxe sashimi was actually pretty good, and each type of fish came in a multiple of two, which is great when you're just two people! I also liked that they offer low-sodium Yamasa soy sauce in addition to the regular soy sauce (assuming they fill the two jars with different kinds). I wasn't sure what to expect coming here. We wanted pho and it was open till 2 am. When coming in we heard loud music from the bar next door. Then a loud crash of dishes and people clapping. The waitresses were so busy but very friendly and well dressed. The room was full with music and chatter. We sat down an ordered and as we were pouring our tea our spring rolls appeared them as we bit into them our pho joined. The food was served very fast. The steak pho soup i was impressed had so much steak in it and tasted good. Usually when ive ordered pho steak at other places theres only a small bit of steak on top. Maki MAKI! After driving past this place all the time, I finally stopped in for the sushi dinner I had been craving lately. What a good decision! The rolls I ordered here mostly came with bits of tempura in them, which gave the maki a crunchy texture I wasn't used to, but liked a lot! The staff were friendly and I loved their kimonos! The authentic style of dress, plus all of the creative Japanese-style decorations really added to the atmosphere of the restaurant. My favourite thing was the tempura sauce. Emily was a very attentive waitress on a Friday night. The restaurant was quiet and the atmosphere, music and decor very pleasing. Water was served as soon as we took our seats and lemon wedges brought when requested. We ordered warm sake which was served just as promptly. The restaurant features a patio and two indoor seating sections. One casual and smaller with a wall mounted TV; the other more formal with large tables and spacious booths. We ordered the Organic Miso soup, Seaweed (Kaiso) salad, Kimchee salad and Edamame croquettes. The rolls we chose were the Erotic, and the Ginza. Everything was delicious and arrived quickly. We asked to sample the Black Sesame ice cream and thought it too sweet in comparison to one served at one of our favourite sushi bistros. The menu offers much variety and is extensive, even with a small "Western" (burger and fries) section. Prices are reasonable considering the generous portions. Our one and only demerit is for the ginger. They serve the pickled (pink) as opposed to fresh (white). Oh Maki Maki, I have to say before I start this review, I'm always skeptical of restaurants that have two kinds of cuisine. Japanese AND Vietnamese? Really? I wanted to try a bunch of things on their menu so I shared with three friends: - Vegetable and prawn tempura ($16) - 3 pieces of prawn and bunch of different vegetables (yam, broccoli, zucchini). Came out nice and hot. Perfect with the sauce. YUM. - Spicy salmon roll ($9) - 8 pieces. Love spicy salmon and this one was probably my favourite out of all the rolls we tried. - Rainbow roll ($17) - 8 pieces. We had the traditional style with prawns. Unfortunately, this one was only okay. Not worth $17, that's for sure. - 2x California rolls ($8) - we had a 2 for 1 coupon so we ordered this one for quantity (over quality obviously). Not much flavour to this one either. We passed this one on to other people to eat... - Salmon sashimi ($16) - Love me some sashimi but these were very average. If you are in the mood for sushi, but your hubby wants Vietnamese and your aunt only eats meat and potatoes, you can all be satisfied. It is served up fast. The prices are astonishingly low. A giant vermicelli bowl with grilled pork, veg and 2 deep fried spring rolls is $10.95. This is one of my "usual" dishes. We always order green tea. It's the Japanese kind with a nutty flavour. There are not very many types of beers to choose from. Sometimes I'll have a Sapporo. Huge menu. Always something on special. You can watch the chef make the sushi rolls. They have a separate bar, but there is never anyone in there. It has a big screen TV, but they usually are playing some Asian pop or Buddhist Zen Meditation Zither Music. They also have a karaoke night. In Summer, you can sit out on 2 different patios. Not much to offer in the way of a view, but it's nice to be outside. read more

I had passed in front of this place a couple of times already and like a lot of restaurants in Edmonton, it did not look inviting. Once inside though it was another story. The inside is well decorated and the service is really friendly. They have a lot of interesting food options. We ended up taking a pho, some chicken udon stir fry and a combo of maki sushi, 19 pieces. Let's start with the pho. The broth tasted surprisingly good. And it was well packed with noodles and meat. The upon was also really good. The first piece of chicken was a bit dry but that was the exception. Everything else was good. Last the sushi... they tasted like they were supposed to but here's the reason why this place is getting a 4 stars instead of a 5: the sushi looked like they had been rolled by amateur. They were well cut, all the same length but there was too much rice in them so the result was that some were to big and we're not closed properly. read more

The restaurant is decently kept but could benefit from some renovations as it looks a bit run down. The Menu is big with several option from Sushi to Vietnamese food. The prices are a bit high but nowadays most places are. My table had the Bento Box which I believe was over priced. The box lacked flare and was very basic for a whopping $36 dollars. I had the Vermicelli bowl that was $15. It was decent but nothing extravagant. I did notice the kitchen using a microwave to heat up certain item. While I understand the convenience of using the microwave I don't think that should excuse restaurants. In a world where I can cook myself at home for cheaper and better quality, why would I go to a restaurant that uses a microwave to cook their meals. The service was also decent. A Japanese Vietnemese place seems to be a weird combination but this places seems to make it work. Enter through two large gold doors into a small lobby with two large dinning rooms branching off in both directions. The menu holds the typical staples of Japanese and Viet cuisine, and a handful 'Western' dishes thrown in to cover all the bases. I had the Bun with Spring Rolls and Grilled Pork (order 220). Strips of grilled pork and two spring rolls come lined up on a pile of vermecelli noddles, bean sprouts and slivered carrots. There is a vinegar sauce that you can mix into the noodles for extra flavour. The pork is marinated on the sweet side. It's a lighter dish but filling due the fact that there is plenty of pork. Great value for the price. My dinner friends both had pho and they seemed to enjoy their meal also. read more

My girlfriend and I really love this place. Every time we have eaten here, we walk away with very little leftovers and we order quite a bit for the two of us. But if you are new here, it would be hard to choose what you want with the number of choices. Last time we ordered the erotic rolls ( trust me.. there was nothing erotic about it ). This time we ordered the California rolls, the Oilers Roll, The Vegetable roll and to begin with a serving of Edamame . No sooner did we start eating the Edamame , the rest arrived quickly . As always, it was delicious ! If you or your companion / kids do not like sushi or rolls, they have other dishes as well , they have chicken wings, burgers and fries, and a variety of rice dishes or vermicelli noodles with chicken or pork. Surprisingly every time we go, the place seems empty at the dinner hour.. where do others get their sushi? For what you pay for at a convenient store or a gas station ( eww ) , you may as well come here to get sushi. But if you crave sushi like we do, this is the place to go. First time back to this place in many years, prob 5+years. I think I remember why I wasn't so fond of this place. The first red flag is that it's a Vietnamese AND Japanese restaurant.. not very authentic. The decor is kind of tacky too.. The positive is there is easy parking because it's on the east end of Whyte Ave and off the strip. But that's about all that is good. We ordered 2 rolls- the Maki Maki and BBQ eel. Both had a sour taste to it. I thought it was the sauce initially but realized that it's the sushi rice- they put too much rice Vinegar in it I think. Notice they offer bubble tea many flavours for 4.95. Defiantly will try one when I come back. Lots of parking 1 hour/2 hour. read more

I've been coming to maki maki for my sushi fix for years. The sashimi is very fresh and always very delicious. Today was very busy for a Tuesday evening. My boyfriend ordered a Vietnamese dish, I had the aloha roll and we ordered dragon eyes to share. The Vietnamese dish came 5 minutes before everything else so I was left sitting without food or explanation for 5 minutes before the aloha roll came. Both meals were delicious. The dragon eyes came last. They were very greasy and we're mostly rice with very little salmon. read more

Disappointed by the quality of food...the restaurant is conveniently located just off whyte with enough parking around...the prices are on the high side but the portions are big too...however it is not authentic at all...every item in my bento box was just OK...they certainly do not have a proper sushi chef...it looks as if jananese food is cooked by a chinese take out chef...you are much better off going to furusato or dorinku, both close by...not recommended... read more

As I've previously stated in reviews of other sushi restaurants, sushi is what I'd want my last meal to be. I have been going to Maki Maki since it opened, so I used to consider myself to be almost a regular. Until I got tired of settling. The sashimi is fresh - I consistently order salmon and tuna - but it's frequently cut with what I can only assume is a dull bread knife due to the hack job that would arrive on my plate. Pieces would also vary way too much due to inconsistent cutting, and occasionally I'd received frozen pieces of fish, though I'd blame that on their fridge being turned up too high rather than the fish not being fresh. Their list of maki (rolls) is the longest I've encountered, actually, in my entire sushi-eating lifetime. My favourite is the avocado rolls, because they put tempura flakes in the rolls. I'm pretty confident they put crack in the tempura batter because it's so addictive and tastes sooo good. Their agedashi tofu is totally incorrectly made; the pieces are twice the size they should be and the sauce comes on the side (the tofu is supposed to be in the sauce already). But it's probably my favourite agedashi tofu in the city (I use agedashi tofu as a sort of litmus test) as it has nice flavour and a nice crunch. The service is usually pretty good, though they're definitely not good at handling rushes. The servers are friendly and mostly attentive. After a few years of getting to know each other and building a life together, the little things just started to add up - poor cutting, sloppy work, hit-or-miss taste - and finally Maki Maki and I agreed to see other people for a while. And I haven't been back. It's for the best, as I have a new favourite now (Sushi Wasabi) and things there are great. By all means, date Maki Maki for a little while but if I were you, I'd keep the relationship open... read more

If it's one thing I miss about my time in Japan, it's the drunken walk of shame for late night sushi. In Edmonton, this walk is colder and the options on Whyte greater than one would expect. The choice this evening was Maki Maki. The menu is pretty extensive even having a number of Vietnamese options to the Japanese. I went with the Maki Combo A because the name suggests I should try the Maki. Combo A consists of 13 pcs: salmon 2 pcs, tuna 2 pcs, kapa 2 pcs, california 4 pcs, dynamite 3 pcs. It's good, but at a shade under $15 I just think its too pricey. The service is good and the restaurant clean. The service was fast. Almost too fast. The 2 am closing time on Friday and Saturday means our paths will cross again. Good place, but not great. read more

There are a few reasons why I love this place and it all started when I stumbled across their huge OPEN sign one winter Saturday night, (eventually leading to my affectionately calling them Maki Maki Open) because they were the only place I could find in the vicinity open late on weekends...until 2AM actually. But wait, it gets better. They have a full service lounge that is available to be booked and is a perfect venue for a private party, especially if your peeps like to dance! I threw a party there and was able to bring in my own DJ - we had about 30-40 people and they decorated the lounge for us before we got there as a special touch. Service was awesome, and they even provided us with a dedicated bartender. Let's talk about the food. I love to get the assorted sashimi boat. They serve the sashimi nice and cold and I highly recommend asking for the special spicy sauce that really enhances the flavor of each fish. The octopus is fantastic! My favorite roll has to be the Deja Vu Roll which I ended up remembering (they have a ridiculously HUGE selection of rolls) by how it kept me coming back again, and again and again = sushi deja vu. :) On one of my latest visits I gave the Erotic Roll a try which was definitely different, with a vinegar-y sauce and topped off with scallop sashimi....very artfully assembled, I must add. Did I mention they have TWO patios?? Check them out in the summer...great place off the Ave to just chill on a warm summer night. Lastly, ample parking...always a bonus. read more

I'm always interested in going to new restaurants, and sushi is one of my favorite foods to eat so whenever I get a chance to, I get really excited! Last night I went to Maki Maki with a friend. It was a really nice restaurant. The menu was huge, there was so much to choose from. The thing I liked most was that I could order both japanese food and vietnamese food at the same time. They also had so many more choices of maki rolls to chose from. More than most other japanese restaurants (some of which had local names like the Oilers Roll and the Eskimo Roll) which I thought was cool. The service was awesome, our waitress kept having to come back and try to take our order a few times since we couldn't decide what we wanted. After our meal was done they split the bill for us so we knew exactly how much we needed to pay. We also stayed afterwards just chatting and didn't feel pressured to leave. I would definitely return go back to Maki Maki another time and try something else! read more

I turned to Yelp the other day because I was looking for a Japanese restaurant that had more than just sushi to offer. I'm one of those annoying people who doesn't like sushi and usually is the Debbie Downer of the group when everyone is craving it. Yelp did not disappoint me! At first I was a little skeptical when approaching the restaurant - it had an open sign but all the curtains were drawn, there weren't many cars parked outside and their big wooden doors looked intimidating. But to my surprise the inside was as busy as a bee's hive! To the left was a bar and to the right was the actual dining area. My boyfriend and I were seated right away and were given menus. Holy smokes....it was the most diverse menu I've seen at a Japanese restaurant. Along with a lot of sushi there were many cooked dishes, soups, appetizers, and even Vietnamese dishes to choose from. I ordered the 'chicken teriyaki' which was delicious and tender. The portion size was pretty large; I had to get my left overs packed up. The atmosphere was very cozy and all the tables were chatting happily. One thing I noticed was the sushi chef that was working at the time, who I could see from the dining room, was smiling liked he frickin' loved what he was doing. This made my boyfriend and I smile; it's good to see someone enjoying what they do. And I enjoy eating so I will definitely be coming here as often as I can! There are still many, many items on the menu I have to try. And apparently they are open until 2:00am on Friday and Saturday nights! Maki Maki deserves 5 stars for sure! read more

First opinion of the place is I like the uniforms they wear and the music, gets me ready for the food. Hopefully the food is no disappointment. It has a pretty cozy feel to it, relaxed and comfortable. I ordered a honey dew melon bubble tea which tastes great!! The tapioca is delicious. By great I mean awesome bubble tea. Maki Maki has the right variety of eats and rolls, the right affordability, the right kind of service and the right price range to make it with the trip over the wrong side of the tracks to visit. Located just a couple blocks east of the train tracks and the old Iron Horse, Maki Maki is a large and spacious sushi house that Is my staple for taking first-timers out for some delectable japanese treats. The caterpillar roll I think is my favorite one I've tried, made with splendid attention to detail and artisitc flare. Their tempura is sweet and the sauces are great. We return regularly. The service is amazing and will go out of their way to make sure you and your group have a great time. The server last time let us stay till 1145 even thought the place closed at 11PM. As far as value for dollars go, Maki Maki I think leaves every stomach stuffed without emptying the wallet. read more
