Today at 4:51pm, we were at the restaurant and had a disappointing experience with the male server. Despite being regular customers, this server, who wore tinted black glasses, lacked basic customer service skills. He only provided 3 menus for our party of 4 and I had to grab the 4th menu as he stood behind the counter, brought only one cup of tea when we requested a pot after he said he would bring a pot, and we had to ask for extra chopsticks since there were only 2 available. While the food was great as always, the service fell below industry standards.

Still don't know how to pronounce Wash-o-ku Was-ho-ku Wa-sho-ku None the less, this place is Fantastic! A lot of the city's sushi joints are carbon copies of each other. Not all, "a lot". This place tickles my palate in a great way. Great take on a rice-less roll, the cottage roll (they have to work on that name) is a oralgasmic experience. 5 stars all the was down the list. Atmosphere, quality, service, price, and total experience.

Don't you just love when restaurants open up and you can't find any info on them? No website, no social media outlets, a whole lotta nada. I'll never understand it. Well, we spotted the "coming soon" Washoku Bistro sign awhile back and noticed that it had finally changed with a January 12th grand opening date. Bbops wanted to go on opening night (does no one ever listen to my advice???) but we were able to convince him that it wouldn't be the best idea. Turns out we were right as I read a few reviews of people complaining about opening night service/jitters. Well, we both forgot our lunches the following Thursday so we decided to give Washoku a go. I went in keeping any type of expectations in check after having way too much belief/hope in another Japanese restaurant, Ikki Izakaya. Service was acceptable although we both found it odd that the waitress thought all the rolls had such "interesting" names. I kid you not, that was verbatim. Ummm you've never heard of a red dragon roll before? Do you live under a rock? Makes me wonder if she's ever worked in a Japanese restaurant before...or eats food for that matter. Located right beside Relish Burger, they've taken over what was once a fast cash store. The inside is nicely decorated with a modern, clean and simplistic design. Apparently, we know where to go because we spotted some "celebrity" food bloggers. Hahaha, good timing apparently. Our food came out fairly quickly which was nice as we were in a bit of a rush to be back to the office. Typical hours. Closed Monday. Evenings aren't open very late (4pm to 9:30/10/9pm). They have a small lunch menu that's split into lunch roll combos, bento boxes and stir fried bentos. Bibimbap is an option???? Huh? Guess that's where the Korean dishes come into play but I'm really not gungho when a restaurant tries to combine two completely different types of cuisine. It looks like there are a lot of roll combos to choose from but almost all of them consist of the same ingredients. A greater variety would be nice...rolls aren't that difficult to make. Drink menu. I read their pomegranate tea is to die for - maybe next time. We were given complimentary miso soups to start. Nice and hot, we drank them straight from the bowl. Pretty standard stuff but a good way to start our meal off. - Red dragon roll combo ($16.90) - shrimp tempura, crabmeat, cucumber, avocado and fresh salmon. The lunch roll combo consists of 8 pieces of maki rolls, a salad and a lunch size classic udon noodle soup. This was my dish and the first issue I had was that the rolls were waaaaay too big to eat. Seriously, why??? Never a fan when I see this. Hope they fix it ASAP. The rest was fine but pretty ordinary. The spinach salad was tasty (ponzu dressing - yum) but the udon noodle soup was just decent. There wasn't much ingredients in the bowl - just one piece of fake crab, tamago, tempura bits and green onions. I should probably mention I went to Marukame Udon recently, which is a completely unreasonable comparison but if you want to know what fresh udon tastes like, keep them in mind the next time you visit Hawaii. - Sashimi & roll bento ($15.90) - 7 sashimi pieces, 4 spicy salmon roll, 4 California rolls, 3 tempura pieces and a salad. They gave us salmon and tuna sashimi, which were pretty fresh. The salmon sashimi was probably the best thing we ate. The spicy salmon was also better than I expected. The rest was standard fare. We both thought their bentos are pretty pricey for lunch (overpriced even?) but they were packed for lunch so everyone else must think this is a good deal or something... Overall? We liked the décor and ambiance of Wishoku. The food was pretty standard fare, nothing really wowed or impressed us. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with Wishoku Bistro but with Japonais Bistro just a few short blocks away (and with a higher quality, better valued lunch menu), Washoku needs to step up their game.

This is my go to place for lunch, the lunch menu is very affordable and gives you a lot of options! I love their bento boxes and usually get 8 spicy salmon rolls instead of the 4 California and 4 spicy salmon, its for a surprising kick which I love! The ladies that work here are so friendly and on the ball, my tea and water is always topped up! Only sushi place I go.

Went here with the boyfriend looking for some good sushi and we were more than pleased! Very quick and nice service, both at the front and our waitress. The restaurant and bathroom is very clean and well-kept. Very romantic atmosphere too if you're looking to have a cute date! The food was amazing, I got the mango roll and he got the crispy crunch. We were both blown away. We also shared the tempura and the creamy mango shrimp - which I would highly highly recommend! It was certainly enough reason by itself to come back! Absolutely delicious and to be honest the best sushi place I've gone to

I really like this place. It's in a great wee spot on 124 street, with limited parking in the alley behind. The restaurant itself has a lovely chilled out vibe and I could just hang out in there all night. The service was attentive and pleasant. There were a few kids there and they have a good supply of highchairs and booster seats for little ones. Complimentary miso soup was on the table in a flash and my daughter loved it so much she got a second bowl. The chef even gave her a little side dish with cucumber to much on. Between three adults we shared the mixed tempura, which is always my favourite and the batter was perfectly light and crispy. We ordered two maki rolls, the mango crab and the bbq'd eel. Both were presented very well and tasted fantastic. Especially the mango - it was so delicious! We ate everything and even had space for dessert. I ordered the crispy greet tea ice cream. It was a lovely pallet cleanser and I left feeling satisfied with every item we ordered. Perfect.

I had seen this Japanese restaurant on 107Ave but this was my first time visiting for dinner with a group of 4 and one baby. There were quite a number of options including various Japanese / Korean / asian fusion starters, tempura, salads, udon, and kitchen food. Atmosphere: 4/5 Really decorative entrance with wooden walls; neat and quiet on the inside. There were some booths as well but we were seated in the open area which was nice. It is close to 124st so we were able to walk around before / after; there is also some parking in the back lot. Food: 3.5/5 There were a number of options but I ended up going with the 'safer' option of ordering an individual small plate consisting of 4 sushi, 4 sashimi, and California roll. I thought the portion size was fair and it was enough for me at the time. The radish that came with it was really fresh and an interesting addition. Service: 4/5 Good; the server was quite attentive to our needs and food arrived at a reasonable time. Price: 3/5 Still a little expensive as I believe the same dish may have cost less during the lunch hour. Overall: 3.5/5 A good, neat, and quiet restaurant to get together with friends in a convenient location; I would come back and try more adventurous items next time!

A japanese korean fusion cuisine restaurant...the food was good but nothing extraordinary...its around a bunch of other resturant and shops on 124th street and is in a good central location...the service was fine...they did not have bento boxes in the dinner menu...overall a fair place, but nothing special...

Walking into Washoku I didn't realize just how big of a space the restaurant occupied. Semi-private rooms line the side of the restaurant, there's a space for a larger group, and multiple smaller tables occupy the main seating area. The lunch menu features a variety of bento boxes, maki, teriyaki, and Korean favourites like bulgogi and bibimbap. After placing our order, we each received a complimentary bowl of hot miso soup with tofu bits and wakame seaweed. While it isn't expected, I always appreciate when Japanese restaurants give you a hot bowl of soup to enjoy while waiting for the rest of your meal! Green tea is a must for my boyfriend when we're out for Japanese. Restaurants typically bring a pot of green tea to the table, but we found it amusing when he was served a green tea bag in a dainty cup. It was the most peculiar thing and something we are always going to remember about Washoku. Half of the lunch menu is dedicated to 7 different sushi rolls. The rolls themselves are priced between $10.90-$13.90, but if you add $3 you can upgrade to a Lunch Roll Combo, which gives you a side salad and lunch sized classic udon noodle soup to go with your maki. It's a pretty good deal if you ask me! You would think that a 'lunch sized' udon noodle soup would be fairly a plain, small portion, but it's quite the contrary. The piping hot bowl of noodle soup is decently sized, and garnished with tamago (egg omelet), imitation crab, bean curd, green onion, and bits of tempura in the mix. The flavourful soup leaned on the slightly sweeter side, and the noodles had a perfect chewiness to them. In each combo the roll is divided into 8 pieces, and I was honestly surprised to see how big the pieces were! You definitely get a great value out of the lunch roll combo. To go with my soup and salad, I chose the Crispy Crunch roll made with tempura shrimp, imitation crab meat, cucumber, avocado, spicy salmon, and tempura bits. The roll was presented on a mixture of nitsume (eel sauce) and sriracha mayo, giving the roll an extra punch of flavour. I enjoyed the extra spicy kick from the salmon and it paired well with the rest of the ingredients. From the sushi bar my boyfriend ordered the Sashimi & Roll Bento ($15.90) which comes with the chef's choice of 7 pieces of sashimi, 4 pieces each of spicy salmon roll and california roll, 3 pieces of tempura, and a side salad. Just like the lunch roll combo it was a substantial portion of food for a great price. The sashimi in the bento was a mix of salmon, tuna, tilapia and surf clam, with each piece being thickly sliced. The salmon had a nice fatty texture, and all the sashimi was very fresh. The mixed salad and sushi rolls were fairly standard, with the spicy salmon being our favorite of the two rolls due it's kick of heat. The tempura batter was light, and each piece wasn't too oily - Gordon even decided it was the best tempura he's ever had. here's only one other option for Japanese food along 124 Street, so Washoku Bistro is a welcome addition to this area of the city. The service was attentive and the food arrived quickly to our table, making Washoku a great option for a quick, filling lunch. Food quality was great, and as an added bonus you get good value out of your meal for the price. If you're looking for a new downtown lunch option, give Washoku a shot!

Ambiance was lively as the restaurant was busy. Restaurant was clean including the restrooms. There was plenty of free parking on the plaza. My only complaint is the price of the dumplings. We love kbbq but it's very expensive here in Edmonton, and there are only two in the city. It's located in an inconspicuous (weird if you ask me) spot, in a neighbourhood in front of a school. Parking wasn't that difficult to get. Upon arriving we waited 10 minutes for our reservation and we got seated. The vibe and atmosphere of this place is very family-run-authentic. The meats are served buffet style and you grab your own drinks from the soda fountain. Sides of lettuce, salad (my personal fave- amazing vinaigrette to cut the meat), kimchi, bean sprouts, etc. There were also a few variety of fried items. My favorite was the shrimp chips. They also have fried rice but no white rice. Which leads me to my next point-- Service: AMAZING!! One of the older ladies saw my boyfriend and I mixing our fried rice and kimchi to make kimchi fried rice. She asked if we wanted some sesame oil and seaweed to put into our fried rice to make it more bokkeum-bap!! She came back with a bottle of sesame oil and mixed it in for us. The only downsides: They put a piece of parchment paper over the grill which kind of absorbs all the juice. The selection of meat is very limited as well. For 2 people not including our alcohol, it came to about $75 for AYCE. Not too bad considering it's the only other kbbq place in town. Will definitely be regulars!

But I like Gyu-Kaku more (Better price for same experience and I like the marinated cheap meats better than the expensive cuts).

We arrived right before other people filled up the place so it was a little busy. I'm surprised at how much space and seating they have. At first I just saw 4 person tables but they led us to the other area where they had large tables for bigger parties. We had 9 people in our party and they seated us immediately. My boyfriend and I split the Bulgogi Fries and the Padak (Soy Garlic) Korean Fried Chicken. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. After one bite of the Bulgogi Fries, it was an immediate 10/10. The fries were crispy and had the perfect golden crisp + soft inside ratio. And don't even get me started with the sauce on top. The white sauce was light, and had the perfect combination of slightly sweet and savory. It was a wonderful aioli. And the veggies added were so good. The tomatoes and scallions added a nice freshness and slight acidity to the overall dish. Lastly the bulgogi was just *chef's kiss*. I don't really know how else to explain it other than the Bulgogi Fries were a well-balanced dish. We were scooping every single missed vegetable in the sauce after we demolished the fries. The Padak (Soy Garlic) fried chicken was so tasty. Whenever I get wings, my go-to is pretty much anything soy garlic, or anything included garlic. The fried chicken skin was the best part. Great texture, crunchy, crispy, wonderful flavor. It was a great blend of savory, umami, and garlic. And the green onions on top was a great addition. Portion size for both things we ordered was perfect for the two of us. Also, don't even get me started on the banchans. Great kimchi, radish kimchi was so refreshing, and that mashed potato side? Terrific. We asked for more banchan when we were done. Lastly, we came back the very next day to try the desserts. At first, I wanted to pick one dessert to share between me and my boyfriend but it was so difficult to choose one. So we got both lol. We ordered the Injeolmie Waffle, Honey Butter Bread, and tried some of my cousin's Strawberry Bingsu. The Injeolmi Waffle itself was delicious, sweet but not too sweet. The ice cream added that sweetness and the almonds on top were nice. And the Honey Butter Bread? Wow. The milk bread and the fresh whipped cream were fluffy, light, and not too sweet. I would go back again in a heartbeat. If I was in the neighborhood, I would be a regular. And when I give a place 5 stars, 5 stars to me means: take my money and I might dangerously spend too much of my paycheck here. Which is what I did, but no regrets. I will not stop talking about this place. 10's all across the board for me! Love you Hanjan.

Otherwise it is a large restaurant, pretty non descript in nature but clean and orderly. I like that after you are seated, and you get your menus you ring a doorbell at your table when you are ready. I like this. The servers are not running around ragged. Great menu - lots of selections. We ordered a lot of different items - Gamja Tang - Spicy, hearty pork bone soup with potatoes, green onions, hot peppers, and ground sesame seeds. Galbi - Beef short ribs soaked in a sweet soy marinade and grilled. Cheese Buldak - Korean Fire Chicken, tender chicken coated in a spicy gochujang sauce with rice cakes, potatoes, and mozzarella cheese melted on top, and soy garlic fried chicken. It also came with some steamed rice and banchan which is small appetizers of pickeled vegs. Everything was delicous but my favourite was the gamja tang. Delicous! Despite our freezing we also splurged on the mango bingsu - shaved ice dessert topped with fresh mangoes, ice cream, and condensed milk. Delicous but we walked out like popsicles. I will have to come back in summer :)

The pork in the soup is one of the best I've had from all the Gam Ja Tangs in Edmonton - nice cuts, good flavour, and perfect cookedness. The vegetables have been really fresh and cooked well. One thing to note is that the soup isn't very spicy. Overall, I'd give them 8.8/10

It's definitely a cozy spot better equipped to serve smaller groups than larger parties. The menu is pretty straightforward with just enough variety so that everyone would probably find something they'd be interested in. I ordered a Bulgogi (stir-fried marinated beef) that came with rice and some banchan, then I also got a separate appetizer of Mandu (fried chicken dumplings). All the food was as expected and I can't really complain about anything. The bulgogi was cooked to perfection, the mandu was crispy and soft as a fried dumpling should be. The portions are large and is just the right amount for a meal if you eat like me, or a meal and some leftovers if you eat less. I wasn't in a rush and enjoyed my meal, they checked how I was doing a few times but never felt pushy. Super friendly and very prompt service. I'd try some other things next time I went. Go with a small group of 4 and try a few different dishes that you can share is my advice.

My order was ready within the time frame given by the restaurant. The lady who helped me greeted me immediately when I walked into the restaurant, and was quick to assist me. The Sweet Soy Chicken Bites had a light, crisp batter and the sauce was tasty and not too thick. The Cheese Corn dog was huge and had the perfect cheese to batter ratio. I recommend this restaurant if you enjoy Korean street food.

It is a fast food joint, so don't expect much for atmosphere or comfortablity. And the chick behind the counter wasn't really helpful or friendly. She reminded me of someone that is disgruntled in life and needs to be doing something else. That being said, food was great. Nice selection of street food. We grabbed a selection of things - ramen, bulgogi bibimbab, sausage mozza corn dog, sweet butter fries, tuna mayo kimbab, and garlic soy chicken bites as well as two bubble teas. Food came out extemely fast. It was hot and tasted fresh. My family enjoyed their ramen. I really liked the bulgogi bibimbab. Good portion size, and a good ratio of meat to veggies. Beef was well seasoned. my kid had the spicy pork cutlet ramen and I sampled the broth. It was really spicy and delicous. Chicken bites were good but not outstandish. Birthday kid wolfed down the fries and corn dog. If you like these things, you really need to come here. The Kimbab was fresh but I was hoping for a bit more flavours in it. The bubble tea was fine but a bit sweet for my liking. However, if you need a quick bite to eat and are in the area, choose this over any fast food establishment. About the same in price point, and way better flavours and freshness. This would also make a good take out for a picnic.
